Log4OM with WSJT-x and GridTracker - what a Blast!

- This video explores how to make Log4OM, WSJT-x, and GridTracker work together seamlessly and with great aplomb… All processes have been researched, practiced, and verified to work.
In the first part of this video, we will look and how to bring your Log4OM database of QSOs up to date by importing from another logbook into Log4OM. Then we'll connect WSJT-x to Log4OM directly, and finally, we will integrate GridTracker into the whole system.

Worked like a charm. Thank you sir!
You're welcome!
I do like your clear slowly paced, concise delivery, without having the cutie radio noises in the background. That was very helpful. You clearly have had experience in explaining things like this to people. Having spent quite a few years in IT explaining technical concepts to people, I notice when others do likewise.
Too many years as an adjunct professor…. But I did get paid well
LOG4OM is so feature rich (complex) I worried about how to configure. Your video really helps. I appreciate all the research you do and share. THANK YOU.
Glad it was helpful!
GI5CEO. Thank you. You saved me hours of trial and error with your instructions. If anyone else is watching follow everything to the letter. Thanks again. PS Can you do a video about backing up and recovery of Log4om.
I can do that…
@@ND3N Great that would very helpful as the last video that I have watched was dated 2020. I tried to follow it but it never worked for me. Every time there is an update to Log4om I have to reconfigure the whole programme.
Best and as you stated up to date!
Thank you, Tom. I absolutely love your videos. They are always simple to understand and instructive.
You are very welcome
Thanks Tom for this video good job, I have been struggling with this setup since the last update of Log4OM

Thanks. I learned a lot about UDP servers and how that works with this video. Got it all working.
Happy it helped
Thanks Tom, just got back into the hobby, running a IC7300 through a MFJ tuner to a EFLW. Everything worked pretty well except that my mic audio was very low. After much research I found the solution. I'm running windows 11 (which I understand can be problematic). For anyone with the same issue, the cure is: go to Settings-System-Sound-Advanced-All sound devices-Microphone>make sure Audio Enhancements is turned OFF. Great presentation, as a former teacher I think you would make a great one!!!
I used to have a side gig as an adjunct professor for graduate level courses
AD8JF, I would never have figured out how to get all 3 programs working with my IC 7300, thanks
Great stuff, helped a lot 73s
Glad it helped!
Thank you for a clear and well laid out plan to implement together Log4om, WSJT-X, and Grid tracker. I was quite impressed with your presentation. Subscribed. 73, KE8NQL
Glad it was helpful!
Hello TOM
and good job on the video . I will try the config tonite
A lot of HAM are using JTDX instead of WSFT-x , a guess pretty similar but adding in the Video tittle will be good and a screw shot of the JTDX config page will be a blast
Thank you
regards From XV9R
Thank you…. I’m currently planning on doing a similar video, but with the n3jfp logger.
@@ND3N
I used exactly the same config as you for Log4om and Grid Tracket
i am sending you by email my config screenshot for JTDX

Very nice step by step video. Thank you 73s DL2EAD Andreas
You are welcome!
thx super
Welcome 😊
i am using JTDX
How do you like it? I’m thinking about checking it out and possibly doing a video…
One concern I have is the use of the second deprecated second source for UDP in wsjt. Having watched this video I think I’m going to have a go at doing a Daisy chain because I noticed that some of these programs have UDP out. I already have WST in tracker working and I’ll install log4OM and see if I can feed log4om from grid tracker So that the only thing that WSJT is feeding is grid tracker. Yes, that will mean that I have to have grid tracker. Running to have it login log for OM but that’s OK because if I ever forget, I can just export the Aditya file and import it into log4om. I haven’t watched the whole video but it wouldn’t hurt to show some kind of a pipe like diagram to explain how things are put together.
I found a video that explains doing exactly the kind of thing I was talking about from a ham with call M0XMX. I’m not yet. Quite sure it’s done exactly as I would do it but I will eventually get mine going and then post back here how I would suggest doing it. First Update: The install went OK, but the thing won't configure - no country list. It will run OK if I run the application as administrator, but that is NOT doing to happen. Running it as an ordinary user, the log says it has no Internet access - waiting for forum access to explore that. But a clock is ticking on Log4OM - if I can't resolve this in a day or two, I'm done with it.
I found Log4OM to be rather difficult to configure. I’m no longer using it, though it is still resident on my computer. I’ve switched to the N3FJP Amateur Contact Log, which is much easier but has a small initial fee, but that includes lifetime support
@@ND3N My problem isn't going getting it configured - it is that it won't run successfully at all unless in administrator mode (I have no need for OmniRig). I am an the forum seeing if they can provide an answer. In the meantime, I have downloaded but have not yet installed ACLog - plan to do that today.
Tom, I use HRD as my main log at my home QTH in Virginia. I am now setting up my FT-891 at my parents house in Mass. I plan on running SSB and digital modes (WSJT) with a laptop. My thought is to use log4OM as my temp log and then download to HRD when I return. Make sense? I am trying to keep this simple. I guess I could use HRD on the laptop, but worried about keeping everything in sync. Any thoughts? Thanks for the great FT-891 videos, I am learning alot.
Hi Scott. You can easily export ADI files from Log4OM, then import them into HRD LogBook. Grid tracker will also automatically upload your WSJT-x contacts to either HRD or Log4OM. I have videos out there that describe how to do that. 73 de Tom, ND3N
I have used HRD for 10 years (since getting licensed). I think LOG4OM is the future with better digital modes program compatibility. I am moving my HRD log to LOG4OM and using that as my main log. It has great features I want. Just my opinion.
Great video, But why do the "clear dx call and grid after logging" in wsjt-x? 73
That was recommended by another ham video, but my system works just fine without having it checked. It could be just to free up memory in the computer. thanks for the comment - 73 de Tom, ND3N
LOG4OM wants to connect to the rig with cat control. If it does so, then WSJT-x or any other digital program can't control the rig. What to do about this?
Make sure you connect to WSJTx first. Then use the udp to populate log4om
😥 this didnt work for me followed it word for word but doesn't log the contacts in log4om
Make sure your UDPs are set properly across all 3 programs…
Noob here in learn mode, Thankfully I only have about 20 contacts, because I currently have them in QRZ, and I cannot export unless I pay for the $35 subscription, so I guess I will enter those by hand, any other thoughts about that?
At least it was a fun lesson to learn
Quick question?? Can you explain the order of which program gets what kind of info and sends the info elsewhere. Is there a certain reason to do it your way??
WSJTx gets the info first and shares it with GT over UDP. WSJTx also shares with its log and PSK Reporter while GT sends the info to Log4om. Hope this helps.
@@ND3N thank you so much.
Hi,
How can I create a "New Logbook" for a "New Callsign" but "keep" all my settings the same..??
Many Thanks...
Let me check

Many Thanks....
Looking at the Manual, Maybe..??
"Clone" Profile, Switch to That Profile, Rename it, then Create New Database.?
Tried all what yo usaid but no luck with it
I’m sorry. You’re the only one to complain, so go thru the video step by step and see if you missed something
Tom i am not complaining i think your videos are awesome it just that when you made this video things have changed in log4OM
So, I guess it’s time for a new video…. Will add to my list…
