People asking why Djokovic is doing as good if not better at 36 than he did at 34. Well didnt you just noticed how much bigger he hits the ball this year because he gotten bigger and more muscular. That combined with his age, and some other problems, small injuries etc, recently stomach bug, made him slower. By getting bigger, he had to sacrifice some parts of his game, in this case the fitness and the movement were impaired slightly. But not enough to bother him that much so he cant still be fast enough for all the top players out there. AO was a fine example of how much more pop he added on his shots. Us Open final v Medvedev, and his overall performances v Medvedev this season also show this. He is able to give back the balls to his opponenta that they cant use to move him arround as easily as they could just a year prior. And honestly, i dont think we have seen the best of Djokovic ever since AO this year. He is saving it for something, probably the olympics. So added body mass allows his power and pace to increase and be more assertive. I believe that no way that Djokovic of 2021 or 2022(but this year i dont really count due to covid bs) would be this dominant v Alcaraz and other kids hadnt Djokovic added to his muscles a bit. You dont want to get pushed arround that much as an old man by players under 30 in their physical primes, so i definitelly support this change in Djokovic's game.
Pegula = Mackenzie McDolnald or Bautista Agut. Not necessarily as quick, but strokes are robotic and so solid. Bautista probably the better comparison.
I would say she is more like a mannarino , brooksby , Djokovic , because every shot has foreshadowing into them . She think before she hit while most player just hit.
@@pzh1 i can see what you mean, put I think mannarino is a bit too crafty to be compared to Pegula. Although I will say she has developed some pretty sweet drop shots.
hey gill, love your content but unfortunately i dont quite have the time to watch every mailbag in full. i'd like to ask you, if possible, to add back that thing on the bar that shows which question you're answering at a given point in the video. maybe its just me but i believe you haven't added it in the last couple of videos. keep up your great work ! looking forward to the finals
Oh I broke the code! Mention Djokovic, Alcaraz, or Swaitek in your mailbag question to get enough likes to be picked 😮 Gill, you keep falling for user names like “member tuck?” Take a second and decide if you’re getting played 😊
14:35 comparisons’ comparison. I was doing this exercise before hearing your call. iga -> rafa : no brainer. The easiest ever, not only in this group! 15:07 Sabalenka -> Korda. You said Shapo. (I would go for Korda). 15:42 coco -> -Hubby Hurcatz. You said Medve/Zverev. Yeah I agree. Those two are better choices. 16:21 Rybakina -> Sinner. You said Berdych. Humm dunno. I lean towards Sinner as a closer equivalent. 17:03 Pegula --> FAA. Wow!! You Pegula is the equivalent of Djokovic/Murray? Wow! Super high bar. I dunno. I disagree on this one. But definitely understand the similarities you mentioned. Definitely an expert opinion. In my case , I just went for what they transmit to me when I see them play. Pegula executes far better than FAA but I feel like both always based their game in cool and calmness and in that sense Pegula would never go in a Djoko-rant or a Murray-tirade. 18:08 ons -> I was thinking on Gael, Bublik or Fognini but ons demeanor and game for me definitely only has one equivalent: Roger. Obviously the execution is another conversation but yeah. Rog. And you said: Fognini. Haha! Awesome! I feel partially vindicated so far! (Iga/Rafa don’t count since that equivalence is way too easy) 18:57 vandrusova -> jack Draper. Obviously Marketa is a Major champion but as Draper I feel as if she is sort of a grass specialist. I was also thinking on the German guy with rasta hair that puzzle Rafa years ago at Wimby, but that guy was too unorthodox. You said: Moljan. Wow! I don’t even know how to type his last name. Ok. I defer to the experts on this one. 19:55 Muchova -> Fokina, for me she controls and uses her weapons the way ADF only dreams to ever do it one day. You said : Roger. Yeah … I agree . She is a better equivalent to Fed than my pick , which was Ons. 20:39 Sakkari -> Rublev You said ADF. Haha! Yeah similarities are definitely abundant. 20:30 Barbora -> Bautista Agut. You said: Korda…. Hummm , I picked Korda for Sabalenka… I dunno. I like my Saba/Korda pairing better. So , I will stick with the Barbora/BautistaAgut equivalence.
25:31 Well let’s not forget, Medvedev was literally one set, arguably just a few points away from winning a major in 2022! Pretty much same deal in 2019. Agreed on the assessment overall; Medvedev could’ve easily won a major this year, could’ve easily gotten one any time from 2019 US Open until now. In 2021, he had his moment with a pretty easy draw to the final that he ran through, and then Djokovic collapsing under the pressure in the final.
I think special consideration should be given to the 2019 and 2020 field. In 2019 we had Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer all playing great tennis, and yet Djokovic and Nadal didn’t even make it out of the group stages because Thiem, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, and Zverev were all playing AMAZING. Thiem was particularly incredible, taking down Federer and Djokovic back to back. In 2020, we lost Federer, but somehow Thiem and Medvedev were playing even better than in 2019, Nadal and Djokovic played a bit better too because they were fresher. This resulted in some of the best SFs and Final we’ve seen there, maybe ever. Medvedev vs Nadal was a thriller, Thiem vs Djokovic was a classic best of 3 match, and the final was tight between Thiem and Medvedev. Is this field stronger than those two? Maybe. I think the fact that there is no “weak link” here helps. Zverev is probably the worst of the 8, but he’s won the title twice. In 2019 there was Berrettini, and in 2020 there was Schwartzman; these were two guys you knew weren’t gonna make it out of the RR stage. But I do think the top players in 2019 and 2020 were all playing out of their minds. We’ll see if the same happens this year. I worry that Alcaraz, Medvedev, Rune may not play at the level we hope they do, and it could end up being a two man race between Djokovic and Sinner.
What’s the best player comparison duo? Sinner Ruusuvuori Medvedev zverev Dimitrov Federer Ruud berretini Paul Alcaraz Musetti thiem Fritz Khachanov Shevchenko coric
I don't understand why people love the court level angles so much. Like Gill said, you lose the other player, you can't see the ball's depth and if something is in or out, and you can't see the full geometry of the court and the players' shots, which for me is a huge part of the enjoyment and excitement of watching tennis. It's nice to see the height on the ball and you can sometimes get a better sense of the speed from he court-level view, but to watch a whole match like that would be horrible.
View from the top is obviously the best for showing the tennis, but court-level view is loved by fans because it shows how difficult it is to do what the pros are doing. I think it can bring in new fans if they showed the court-level view more frequently; at least 3-4 times per set. Fans think tennis is slow and all the pros do is trade cross court. The court level view shows their strategies more, how fast they’re hitting, the net clearance, and positioning (of the near player) better.
Gill you're the greatest to ever do it hope you know that
Sorry that’s Novak Djokovic

Sakkari = Davidovich Fokina is such an inspired comparison imo lol. Hats off to you for that one Gill.
Rybakina - Berdych also exellent.
Jabeur and fognini is spot on accurate.

In the description he has time stamps to each topic that he’s gonna discuss.
Oh my goodness Gill, thanks for explaining about the high level camera in Paris. I kept thinking the court looked really short and the ball very slow.
I think peak Tsitsipas was at ATP Finals 2019, FO 2021 and since than, he hasnt found it anymore

The comment 42:30 about the camera is completely bullshit. Every tennis fan loves the view from the top....who likes court level angles?
I like both, how are court level angles bad?
I don't understand why people love the court level angles so much. @@TheNeoGriot I don’t think a whole match would be enjoyable, but I think switching to the angle more in a match would be good
I like them to mix the court angle in occasionally. Not all the time obviously
