I had a few of my own misconceptions. I currently can't remember all of them (I feel like I have more than the ones I'm going to mention), but, well.. For the first one, it involves the game version of Gary, specifically at first when choosing my first Kanto Starter in Fire Red & Leaf Green I tried to "outsmart" Gary by restarting the game (I'm fairly sure I saved first) and then choosing the Starter that he went with before thinking that would somehow force him to go with the one I selected before the restart, and so yes, back then I didn't realize that he was ALWAYS going to go for the one with the Type advantage against mine no matter how many times I reset and/or how clever I thought I was being. The second one I can think of off the top of my head is as follows.. for a while, I originally thought that if a Wild Pokemon I was trying to catch increased Defense and/or Special Defense that it was making itself harder to catch and/or easier for itself to break out of the ball

    • @Nuzzling
      @Nuzzling  28 днів тому +2

Haha, resetting would have been a pretty clever trick if it worked. Your rival would have been like "oh no, I thought I outsmarted them but they outsmarted my outsmarting!!!" xD

As a kid playing Pokémon X, I obtained a Charizardite X from that guy in the stone shop and wanted to repick the Kanto starter I got from Professor Sycamore. So what did I do? I released my Venusaur and then proceeded to save the game, thinking I’d be able to talk to Sycamore and get another Kanto starter. Not sure why I didn’t save beforehand to see if that would even work and then soft reset to get my Venusaur back, but hey, kids do stupid shit.

When I was playing Pokémon Sword for the first time, I was fighting Leon, and when he sent out Charizard, I sent out my Boltund, who knew Dig. So, I Dynamaxed it and used Max Quake, thinking it would knock out Leon’s Charizard. But, it didn’t have any affect. That’s because Flying types aren’t hurt by Ground type moves, but I thought it would work because Leon’s Gigantamaxed Charizard was clearly standing on the ground.

I have a few misconceptions myself from when I first played Blue version in 2020 (my first real introduction to the series), which I'll list very quickly since I mentioned them on *many* misconception videos.
Not much of a misconception, but I knew status moves did something, but I just found them a bit useless in my eyes the first time.
I thought that friendship existed in Red/Blue.
I thought cross-gen evolutions existed in the generation the first known species was introduced (e.g. Thinking Blissey and Happiny were in gen 1).
I thought that trade and item evolutions were level-up evolutions.
I didn't know version-exclusives existed, so I would try to find an Oddish... in Blue Version.
I thought legendaries could *only* be caught with a Master Ball.
I thought Vulpix was an evolution of Eevee, despite them being quite far in their regional dex order and that fact that there already is a fire Eeveelution.
One final tiny misconception in gen 3 is that whenever I encountered a Whismur, I thought my DS screen had a dead pixel because of a random black pixel on Whismur's sprite.
That's all I could think off from the top of my head.

I remember with stat boosting moves.. specifically in Mystery Dungeon games.. I thought they would *permanently* lower your stats if you moved floors.. so I spent extra time finding those tiles that restore stats before moving on.. like I was aware they stopped after battles in the main series but since I didn't fully grasp the Dungeon games.. I was like "oh I fought this thing, that is a battle" and didn't get that a floor was kinda one elongated fight because.. I could heal and move and stuff
Saving.. I mean it is tradition to click save more than once, just in case, totally
Poison.. oh god the screen shake.. I never misunderstood it, but also.. my first game was Diamond.. the gen that *didn't* have them faint from it.. but I didn't know that so I was like "oh not gotta heal lots to keep it from making me black out" but also.. I assumed you could only heal statuses in battle.. but I also sold most of the random free Antidotes and Burn Heals since "I can just use Potions and a Pokemon Center, these things are pointless"
Evolutions.. as a kid *everything* was "level up" to me.. so anything that wasn't was just dumb and pointless.. like I assumed Crobat was only a level after Golbat "because Zubat was annoying so they made it less like it as fast as possible" and the closest to actually attempting a stone evo was making them hold one.. and the best part was said attempt was Happiny one of the few mons that actually evolves via holding their item lol

I also thought that gyarados was a dragon type like how is it not one?

    • @Nuzzling

The saving multiple times thing is not stupid.
I have had a save fail on me in one of my first pokemon games, not sure if I powered off while it said complete before closing the textbox or if it was the hardware being faulty.

Gosh, it's been so long since I was new to Pokemon, I really can't remember what misconceptions I might have had... I guess when I was really really little, I remember seeing Monster Rancher on TV one time and thinking "Oh, this must be Pokemon" while also somehow having never seen Pokemon around that time... I was more of a Digimon fan as a kid~ (still am honestly~)
I can recall my first ever full team of level 100s I had in Yellow version, I had this shitty weak little disobedient traded Ekans that I loved (cannot be found in Yellow, had to trade it from Red version), and the rest of my team were my Pikachu, Charizard, Seadra, Gyarados and Dragonite (I wanted a full dragon team, and in gen 2, aside from Pikachu, those were the only five Pokemon considered dragon egg group~), I think my Charizard was nicknamed Sol, my Seadra nicknamed Luna, and my Dragonite nicknamed Terra... I don't remember any other nicknames my Pokemon might have had... anyway, I only ever taught them all attacking moves, I disliked status moves, and every one of them knew stuff like Hyper Beam, Double-Edge, Earthquake and Surf, and I recall my Charizard in particular only knew all the fire type moves, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Ember and Fire Spin... lol...
One thing I didn't know until very recently is that in gens 1 & 2, you can actually sort your Pokemon's moves with the select button during battle, and you can even do this in your box to organize all the Pokemon you've caught, or the TMs you've collected... I've spent way too much time just removing items and Pokemon from my box just to reorganize them all... xP
