Hey, sorry it took a little while to upload this video. I've been busy the past month because I finally moved out of my mom's place into my own apartment :D Thanks for your patience and I hope you enjoyed the video. Subscribe for more and also check out Golden Owl's channel in the video description :}
Variety in how a player obtains Pokemon is something that often goes understated. It is obviously important to make fun core system mechanics, but no matter how fun the battle system might be, players will eventually grow bored of them after a while. In the context of Pokemon... well... you do a LOT of capturing and evolving. So introducing new ways to acquire Pokemon via Babies helped spice up and/or created a new kind of roadblock to the whole Dex filling process. Though, as with many things, the original purpose of the feature has since been made unnecessary and changed over time. Which is why Babies became less prominent in subsequent generations. At some point the Dex just became so HUGE that creating additional obstacles became unnecessary. So Babies eventually just became (mildly) fancier pre-evolutions and distanced themselves from the Breeding feature, to the point of being encountered in tall grass like regular Wild Pokemon (e.g. Budew, Riolu, Toxel, etc). Breeding has since gone on to be its own thing, with the purpose being more about competitive battling related. Babies are mostly a game design relic of a bygone era, now mostly irrelevant and having no reason to ever be made again. And then Toxel randomly showed up in SwSh for some reason. Why that got categorized as a Baby instead of a normal Pokemon is beyond my understanding.
Honnestly it could just be because the designers thought it would be cute to give it a diaper that would turn into Toxtricity's belt, idk. X^) Not to contradict your Regigigas vid, but given that the babies lost their gameplay relevance, I think lore and design are the only remaining reason to occasionally give modern 'mons the baby status.
Fun fact: The Slogan "Gotta Catch em All" is American made, and is not the same as the Japanese Slogan "ポケモンGETだぜ!", which just means "Get Pokémon!". So the western Slogan has no bearing on their decisions towards gameplay features like national dex
@@MrAppleSalad It holds the same sentiment of wanting to catch Pokémon. But it says nothing about catching every Pokémon. It's like the difference between saying "Defeat the bad guy" and "Save the world". They *could* mean the same thing, but they don't necessarily have to
@@BJGvideos Encouraged by what exactly? I'm genuinely curious if the game tells the player to complete the pokedex, because I don't remember. All I remember is that the reward for completing the dex is usually a diploma. Also Legends Arceus is a different type of pokemon game, it's a spin-off with only one version where all pokemon that exist in that version of the game and there's no method of trading because it's exclusively a single player experience
The production value of this video inpressed me quite a lot. But the video itself was good too. Thanks to golden owl for sendig me here, I'll check out some more videos for sure.
Came here from GoldenOwl's channel. Pretty good video overall, and I actually really enjoy your "simplistic" (for the lack of better word, because I don't mean it in a negative way) artstyle. It's probably a personal bias I have for being a Kirby fan, but still, it made the visual presentation charming and enjoyable. In my opinion, Kangaskhan would really benefit the most from having a baby form because its very existence is just lore nightmare as it is now. But purely for gameplay reasons, all your other suggestions were good as well.
X & Y had the right idea when they gave baby Pokémon three automatic perfect IVs. It was just a quirk from putting them in the No Eggs group, but it was a solid benefit and gave more players a reason to care about them. I didn’t mind evolving a few Pichu in the process of breeding a perfect Raichu with those IVs speeding up the process.
Yeah very true! I just learned about that yesterday as well. I quite like the mechanic because it's like an extra reward you get for raising up a Pokemon from a weaker beginning state.
Accualy, you can get a paradox Mon early. After you fight the titan paradox donphan, you can catch it by going back to where you first saw it. It even has a special titan mark. I used one in my first playthrough.
I remember when back in Gen2, my brother and me always caught pairs of each pokemon because we heard babies were a thing. It was a bit of a letdown not to get a baby Sandshrew (that's the one that broke the truth to us). Nowadays, I like babies because of the "make them available earlier" reason. Apart from Mantyke, all the Gen4 babies fulfill that purpose very well imo - I used the Roselia line plenty of times in Gen4. I even used the Chansey line once or twice because of the early Happiny egg. Munchlax, not so much, because 1% honey trees are awful. I'd love to see babies of Heatmor, Bouffalant and Turtonator - all pokemon I like a lot designwise, but usually come way too late ingame. Competitively, they aren't super great either and I tried using my favorites in that context before - spoilers: It usually isn't that fun.
A baby for those pokemon would work very well indeed. Even for Sandshrew because I think that would be very adorable! :D I've also used the Roselia, Chansey and Chimecho line before in gen 4 and probably wouldn't have as much if their babies didn't exist. Their addition truly help :D

You obviously work so hard on these🎉🎉🎉

Good calls. Maybe baby pokemon really are a relic of the old times.
But we still appreciate them! :3
Thanks again for helping me with the video! :D
Scyter need a baby pokémon for little Cup reasons.😂
Whaha, yeah that is a whole different way of looking at it but it makes a good point xD
+ That would probably be adorable so I approve.
Scyter & Scizor should have been both evos to that baby pkmn, as they share the same BST.
Fun fact: The Slogan "Gotta Catch em All" is American made, and is not the same as the Japanese Slogan "ポケモンGETだぜ!", which just means "Get Pokémon!". So the western Slogan has no bearing on their decisions towards gameplay features like national dex
Haha, yeah that is a totally valid argument.
Didn't actually know that yet but it's still kinda funny :3
"Get Pokemon" seems to me like it means basically the same thing.
@@MrAppleSalad It holds the same sentiment of wanting to catch Pokémon. But it says nothing about catching every Pokémon. It's like the difference between saying "Defeat the bad guy" and "Save the world". They *could* mean the same thing, but they don't necessarily have to
You're still encouraged to complete the dex in every game, and in PLA it's a requirement for the true ending

Wouldn't giving babies to Drampa and Durant kinda recquire to also give one to their Heatmor and Tortunator counterparts? 'Coz t'would be cool. 👀
I would be completely fine with that :)
Everyone gets a baby!!!
0:35 Merch sales. The reason is merch sales 🤫
Shhhh don't spoil the video 🤫 xD
"The internet barely existed" in gen 2? Boy thats surreal because i was there. It was quite prevalent to seek out this info online.
It was there for sure but it wasn't as big and mainstream as it is today.
So in comparison with today it barely existed :)
Honestly elekid is my favorite baby pokemon, when I first saw it in pokemon 2000 I fell in love, I honestly love it more then it’s evolutions
That's great! :D
I really like Elekid too. But I also like its evolutions a lot :)
Same, I got a shiny in the first try in Pokemon crystal odd egg but it was gone because I lost the save file
The production value of this video inpressed me quite a lot. But the video itself was good too. Thanks to golden owl for sendig me here, I'll check out some more videos for sure.
Eyyyy thanks for checking out the videos!
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
If Tyranitar evolved into Iron Thorns, it would be the only pokemon to lose BST by evolving
Not if you count Nincada into Shedinja :P
But yeah maybe that would be kinda weird.
Maybe it should have been a new evolution for Pupitar instead.

Eyyy thank you!
- sincerely, Antmat... I mean Nuzzle :3
Incredible video as always ❤🎉
Dowwww thank you and thanks for checking it out KD! :D ❤
I love that classic magby sprite
It's great. He's about to sneeze x)

Yeah I found that out later too. Pretty cool :D
But still no way to get an early Flutter Mane unfortunately :(
I wish they actually made all the baby pokemon from the Spaceworld Demo, like baby Tangela, baby Vulpix, baby Doduo...
Baby Doduo would be the most adorable creature ever and I need it in my life now!!! xD

Baby Pokémon are undervalued for sure
For sure! #JusticeForBabyPokemon
Golden Owl honestly carries this video
He is pretty great indeed
Kangaskhan really needs one
I could be so gooood !!
I am late but like to see kengaskhan 11:06
That's okay.
A baby Kangaskhan would be awesome and adorable!
Favorite baby pokemon... probably elekid they look so cool 😎 (I have a shiny one too)
Elekid is awesome! I also really like Magby.
Congrats on the shiny ^_^
@@Nuzzling Toxel is my favorite Baby Pokemon. It has a cute design and actually looks like a baby.
