What about the grngar line problem Manny people thought that ghost was weak to psychic cause of that line when in reality ghost is super effective, did you think ghost was weak to psychic , or did you know the truth
I remember having that book as a kid. Some of my favorite mistakes were: -Hitmontop being able to evolve in Hitmonchan & Hitmonlee -Luxio having Roserade’s learnset -Delibird being a legendary -Duskull having a second eye floating off to the side of its art.
My guess is rotom was originally meant to be a secret legendary but they decided against it in later entries for obvious reason. The pokemon was too versatile to just be a one off
The "Water is strong against steel" misconception is probably because of some of Blastoise's gen 4, 5, and 8 dex entrires. "The rocket cannons on its shell fire jets of water capable of punching holes through thick steel." "The jets of water it spouts from the rocket cannons on its shell can punch through thick steel."
Magnezone. For the longest time I thought the red circle in the centre was a button or lazer beam or nose of some kind, and saw its two side-mounted googly eyes as its face. I always thought it looked very derpy because of this, until I realised the central red dot was *the main eyeball.* I held this misconception until just a few months ago, likely because none of its pre-evolutions have red eyes and I'd expect all of the eyes on a Pokemon to generally look the same. Also, I can't ever recall the central eye actually moving in any of the anime/movies I'd seen.
I mean, Rotom should have been a mythical, sharing his ability to change forms with Deoxys. And Metal type should be weak to water, and some have a "anti rust" ability to counter that in their respective cases. My misconception was that Flygon was part of the pseudo legendary Pokemon group.
Flygon being a pseudo would be crazy, given that it would bring Hoenn’s pseudo class to THREE separate lines. I totally see why it should be one, though.
I’ve never heard of someone thinking steel was weak to water however with the rust aspect I do get it. There should be a water move called ‘Oxidation’ that’s specifically super effective to steel types.
I could've sworn on my life steel was weak to water! I very vividly remember steamrolling Byron with my empoleon as a kid, but his two strongest pokemon are dual rock/ground types so I guess that tracks. It took me a million tries to beat the fire type team star leader because I still thought that all these years later lol
I've got a few: 1. I also thought Rotom was a legendary 2. For some reason I thought Fairy was weak to Fire 3. For the longest time, I thought Magnezone only had the two eyes on the side. I didn't even consider the giant red dot in the middle was a big third eye (I still question myself on this lol)
I thought that Ground was weak to Flying. This was because of a meme I saw about how the Sinnoh Starters have a screwed up type triangle. Torterra's Ground buries Infernape, Infernape's Fighting pummels Empoleon, and Empoleon's Ice Beam and Drill Peck wrecks Torterra. I thought "It was nice of Game Freak to give Empoleon two 4x super effective moves against Torterra." It made sense to me because it's really easy to attack the ground when you're above it.
I could have sworn Bug type was weak to Ice. It just makes sense. Also I played Gen 3 before I played Gen 2 as a kid so I thought many Johto Pokémon were Hoenn such as Skarmory, Magcargo, Lanturn, and Mantine.
I used to think that the Regis fused together to create regigigas I had no reason to think this other than the fact that regigiga is larger and has the same name
My personal misconceptions regarding older pokemon sprites: shuppet having one eye (pokemon ruby) bronzong top part being water being poured down in diamond (thinking it was like a well pokemon) and cradily s eyes actually being his teeth. For these ones i need to eventually look at the 3d model in colosseum or newer sprites, so no i don't blame you
i didnt know poison was weak to ground because my first game was leaf green and most of the poison types i fought (venusaur, victreebel, vileplume) were also grass
I used to think Volcarona was a legendary but I think nearly everyone did. I used to think Grass was weak to Psychic, Rock was immune to Electric, and Flying was immune to Ghost. Because when I played RBY and GSC so many times those three types had common dual types that made me think they had one property instead of the other. I thought Heatran was a Gen 6 Pokémon because I never encountered it in DPPt and I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to other Pokémon media. So I hadn’t heard of Heatran until much later and I might have muddled it with Volcanion. I didn’t even know it was supposed to be legendary. Heck I still don’t believe it’s legendary because it’s so… unimpressive or uninteresting.
Wait rotom isn't a legendary pokemon? (kidding of course) but yeah up until 2 & a half years ago i'd never been corrected on that and had thoroughly convinced my friends i was right lol so that misconception lasted for over 14 years 😅
That steel misconception is understandable. Though I don't think I ever thought Rotom was a legendary, but always had a good time breeding them for free legendaries in ORAS. A misconception I had for a long time was to do with finding what I believed to be a legendary in White 2, that being Volcarona. The buildup, powerful majestic Pokemon, and the greatish stats and movepool convinced me it was a legendary. I'll have the full Family shiny by the end of the year, and hope to hunt its static gen 5 spawn within a few years. I've always loved its design, and became more open to using it since I discovered it wasn't legendary. Safe to say it became my favorite Pokemon. In fact, I wonder what your take on a poisonous form would be... Ha. Also, I always find it entertaining seeing how people pronounce my last name. It's been a while since someone said Wes. The accurate pronunciation is We-Z, or if spelled in a different way Weezee. Always interesting to hear other pronunciations! No shame in messing it up either, English sucks. Entertaining video as always!
I have quite a few myself but the two I still get fooled by even to this day is that 1.) Ice type is super effective against Rock (it’s not, really should, tho, as ice is a weathering factor alongside water) and that the Iwanko (Rockruff, but I’m more used to saying it’s Japanese name lol) line is Rock/Normal and Rock/Dark (they’re all just pure Rock type).
A few misconceptions I have are: 1. I thought Lucario was a mythical or legendary when I was a kid. 2. I thought Palkia was a pure psychic type cuz of its powers and appearance. You wouldn’t believe my shock when I found out it was Water/Dragon 😂 3. And finally, I thought Magearna was from Kalos because I saw the Volcanian & The Mechanical Marvel movie (where Magearna was introduced) before playing Sun & Moon. Honestly, I’m still shocked to this day Magearna is an Alolan Pokemon. Don’t get me wrong, Alola and its games are my favorite gen, but Magearna’s whole aesthetic fit better with Kalos- it feels so out of place in Alola. Especially since it only has any real backstory in the sun and moon anime, which pretty much retcons the movie it debuted in.
I was probably 8 years old, playing Pokemon Black. I was in a battle against Cheren and his Emboar, who was weak to flying type moves. I had recently encountered a Larvesta, which is also weak to flying type moves. I proceeded to run from every Heatmor in Victory Road. Because I hadn't ever encountered or caught any pure fire types past the first gym, I thought fire was weak to flying. This idea would continue on into Pokémon X, where 10 year old me was smart enough to finally diversify my team, but not smart enough to realize that my event Blaziken was weak to flying because of its fighting type.
For months I actually was convinced that the new Gen 9 version exclusives Armorouge and Ceruledge were legendary Pokémon. It wasn’t until I played the game that the Pokémon is really common. They are too badass looking to be common Pokémon.
I owned a Pokémon book that had yellow stars behind all legendary pokemon and blue stars for mythicals. It had the yellow stars behind Rotom which made me think it was a legendary. All the stats, moves and Pokémon spawns where correct so I don’t know what went wrong with Rotom. I thought Rotom was an ordinary Pokémon like spritomb or lapras, but that book made me think it was a legendary for years.
This seems to be a common experience! So much misleading media out there, including primary sources. I’m sure many people thought Rotom was a legendary well past Gen 4.
Honestly the way the rotom in your phone manages to catch you right before you hit the ground should make it a legend. It makes sense why your mom would give it to you knowing it'll help you and make sure you don't die lmao 🤣 she must know we're dummies that yeet ourselves off high places because we're too lazy to make the trek back down. (Or maybe that's just me tbh)
i only realized late last year (im 23 years old) that dragon type is weak to dragon, fairy AND ice type. literally never ever knew they were weak to ice. idk how i never retained that info, it blew my mind when i saw it. i was positive that dragon was ONLY weak to dragon and thats why they made the fairy type so it didnt only have weakness to itself, lol
I used to think that steel was weak against electric, cause at that time I knew the dangerous of electricity hitting metal can be dangerous,so it made sense to me when I was a kid,I don't think I learned the differences about steel, iron and metal until I was old enough to understand that electric types isn't super effect against steel XD oh well, kid brain thought differently then adult brain does now
I also thought Spiritomb was another legendary as Gen 4 wad practically the generation of legends because you were only able to ever obtain one under certain conditions until Gen 9 where still as rare, there's multiple of. I do understand why there is 1 though, and that's because who waking up to make Spiritomb. Each Spiritomb has 108 spirits, meaning 10 would equivalent to 1080 dead people sacrificed to create a Pokemon. That's practically genocide.
Wait wait wait Water is NOT strong against steel?! Wait really All this time I thought water is super effective vs Steel cuz I thought of like rusty erosion.......
Only a few years ago, i was CONVINCED that electric resisted water, to the point of a full arguement where i was proven wrong. I feel a lil embarrassed thinking back on it, tbh.
I had a couple typing misconceptions back when I was little and gen 1 first came out. One was that ghost type snd psychic type were weak to each other. I'm sure I wasn't alone in that. The reasoning was because, at that time, the only ghost types that existed were the members of the gengar line, who were all part poison. I wouldn't break out of this until gen 3 simply because misdreavous was so hard to come by for me that I never even used it. A second was the assumption that rock type was immune to electric. This was because pretty much every rock type encountered through the majority of the game was part ground. Didn't get to any non ground mixes until the fossils and, to my knowledge, the only one you encounter in a trainer battle was Lance's aerodactyl.
The legendary battle music from Black and White made me think there was a timer when it sped back up and freaked me out and made me think there was an invisible timer. I probably thought that because you I didn’t understand stat changes back then
My Misconceptions Thought Seviper Evolved from Arbok Thought Steel types were weak to Poison types Thought Mr Mime was a All male Species Thought Drapion was a Bug type Thought Mareanie was based on a Sea Urchin Thought Darkrai was a Ghost type Thought Dialga was based on a Dimetrodon And Finally thought Unown evolved into Wynaut
I still kinda see lucario as a legendary and Rotom as well along with a few of the other harder to get pokemon that either got a movie or had a weird place in post game
Honestly I have some interesting ones for the misconceptions that I had as well so I may as well say them here: (not mentioning the movepools) 1. Dragon was a physical type before the physical/special split: I honestly don't know what made me think this, but I finally just looked it up when I was told it was special and was just confused as I could have sworn that it wasn't special in Gens 1-3 though I know at least that it was always a special type in those games now 2. Rotom was a legendary: Pretty much what this video stated but I found out sooner. 3. Steel resisting water in Gens 2-5: I honestly don't know why I thought this but I find it funny that it has always been water resisting steel and me just thinking they nerfed steel harder than they actually did 4. Palkia being Psychic type: This is mostly just me misremembering the typing rather than anything else even if it is wrong.
I used to think the Gen 4 games were bootlegs because my friendgroup all had Gen 3 games, which we referred to as "Pokemon" so when there was suddenly new games that kids were also calling "Pokemon" my immediate assumption was that they were fakes of some kind
It’s interesting since it’s based on how ancient bronze mirrors look *now* - rusted, not reflective, dull - rather than how they appeared at the time, which obviously was more shiny and mirror-like. The dull grey coloration it has matches Bronzong more and definitely makes it look more like another tool rather than a mirror.
Heres some mistakes. I though rock was immune to electric and igglypuff didnt evolve into jigglypuff cause i had a card and it didnt say “evolves from igglypuff” i was a kid.
Strange, I never had any of these misconceptions. Not sure if I have ever had huge misconceptions like this, but one thing I always overlooked was the fact the cities in the Kanto region were all named after colors, and pallet town was named after a color pallet even though I have been playing the games since they released back in the 90s. I knew most of them were colors, but like who actually knew there was a color called Celadon before google was a thing?
when i was younger i had a lot of misconceptions about type matchups like i thought water beat poison and steel beat fire and i still get confused whether fire resists fairy or fairy resists fire also i thought zorua and zoroark were legendary/mythical because they were so exclusive in their debut game that they functionally were
Always thought Skarmory and Slugma were gen 3 mons just because they were so common in RSE (never had this issue with Chinchou, Natu, and Girafarig weirdly enough).
What are some of the biggest misconceptions that YOU once had about the Pokémon franchise? Let me know down below!
I also thought steel was weak to water for the longest time
for some reason thought that if a shiny pokemon bred with a ditto the baby would also be shiny.
that would’ve been *incredibly* chaotic
What about the grngar line problem Manny people thought that ghost was weak to psychic cause of that line when in reality ghost is super effective, did you think ghost was weak to psychic , or did you know the truth
For years, I thought Rock was Immune to Electric, probably because back then, Gen 3, they were usually were Rock/Ground.
The rotom thing isnt your fault. Even the official ultimate handbook says it's a legendary. (Though that is one of many mistakes in that book)
Right? I’m sure I saw that as a kid too, further fueling my misconception!
Though anything done by scholastic is bound to have a mistake if it is on Pokemon
I remember having that book as a kid. Some of my favorite mistakes were:
-Hitmontop being able to evolve in Hitmonchan & Hitmonlee
-Luxio having Roserade’s learnset
-Delibird being a legendary
-Duskull having a second eye floating off to the side of its art.
I’m convinced that Rotom was originally meant to be a legendary when DP released but was later retconned by the time Platinum came around.
I also thought Volcarona was a mythical legendary for a while, just because of how we catch it in B/W
I can totally see that!
I was almost thought that except the gift Larvesta Egg made it possible for two (didn't know how breeding used to work lol(
thank you for being the only one who uses "mythical" the right ay
You catch it in the overworld at a fixed place
That would make it a Legendary, not a Mythical
@@jvbon646 those two are the same
My guess is rotom was originally meant to be a secret legendary but they decided against it in later entries for obvious reason. The pokemon was too versatile to just be a one off
The "Water is strong against steel" misconception is probably because of some of Blastoise's gen 4, 5, and 8 dex entrires.
"The rocket cannons on its shell fire jets of water capable of punching holes through thick steel."
"The jets of water it spouts from the rocket cannons on its shell can punch through thick steel."
That's a great point!
Magnezone. For the longest time I thought the red circle in the centre was a button or lazer beam or nose of some kind, and saw its two side-mounted googly eyes as its face. I always thought it looked very derpy because of this, until I realised the central red dot was *the main eyeball.*

Yeah, kinda like Bronzong's true face, it's pretty non-expressive and hard to notice unless you really try!
Omigod, now I can’t unsee it
I'm utterly shocked just how many people had this misconception. I even used to not notice the side eyes for quite a while.
Holy SHIT
I mean, Rotom should have been a mythical, sharing his ability to change forms with Deoxys.
And Metal type should be weak to water, and some have a "anti rust" ability to counter that in their respective cases.

When I was little I used to think the giant eye on Magnezone was a goofy clown nose and once I realized that was the middle eye I flipped out.
I've got a few:
1. I also thought Rotom was a legendary
2. For some reason I thought Fairy was weak to Fire
3. For the longest time, I thought Magnezone only had the two eyes on the side. I didn't even consider the giant red dot in the middle was a big third eye (I still question myself on this lol)
That took me a while to realize about Magnezone as well!!
Fairy one makes sense as fire resists fairy
I always saw the red eye as a nose, took me way too long to realize it was supposed to be an eye but I can’t ever see it as anything but a nose lol
Magnezone! Same thing for me
I thought that Ground was weak to Flying. This was because of a meme I saw about how the Sinnoh Starters have a screwed up type triangle. Torterra's Ground buries Infernape, Infernape's Fighting pummels Empoleon, and Empoleon's Ice Beam and Drill Peck wrecks Torterra. Also I played Gen 3 before I played Gen 2 as a kid so I thought many Johto Pokémon were Hoenn such as Skarmory, Magcargo, Lanturn, and Mantine.
They have such weird and obscure encounters in Johto! I see how you came to that conclusion.
I used to think that the Regis fused together to create regigigas I had no reason to think this other than the fact that regigiga is larger and has the same name
That would make sense, given that they’re all artificial to some extent!

Back when I first discovered Pokémon in like 2014 I thought stat boosts/drops were permanent. For example growl permanently lowers your base attack
:fire:
I used to think Volcarona was a legendary but I think nearly everyone did.
I used to think Grass was weak to Psychic, Rock was immune to Electric, and Flying was immune to Ghost. Because when I played RBY and GSC so many times those three types had common dual types that made me think they had one property instead of the other.

For the longest time, I thought Ice was super effective against water, cuz of freezing and stuff. Apparently I'm wrong.
Your not the only one who mistakes Rotom for a Legendary Pokemon.😅
I always thought Whimsicott was Grass/flying before the fairy type came out
Honestly with stuff like Jumpluff existing, I can definitely see why.
Bronzong: _"My eyes are down here.😑"_
Wait rotom isn't a legendary pokemon?
(kidding of course) but yeah up until 2 & a half years ago i'd never been corrected on that and had thoroughly convinced my friends i was right lol so that misconception lasted for over 14 years

I remember when I first started playing I used to vehemently think Fire was strong against Rock because heat melted it into magma
That would be cool
I used to think psyduck or golduck were both water psychic
I mostly thought it about Golduck having psychic in it

Only a few years ago, i was CONVINCED that electric resisted water, to the point of a full arguement where i was proven wrong. I feel a lil embarrassed thinking back on it, tbh.
Not sure why, but I always thought Dragon was weak to Fighting somehow. Maybe I thought the valiant hero (Fighting) could defeat the Dragon 😅

Maybe steel should have been weak to water, since in real life water helps rust steel
I always thought that deoxys was a stand alone sub-legendary like heatran until gen 8 when I found out that he was a mythical pokemon
At least you were only confused about rotom for two years I didn’t learn rotom wasn’t a legendary until sword and shield and I joined around bw2

Thought Mr Mime was a All male Species

Thought Dialga was based on a Dimetrodon

Honestly I have some interesting ones for the misconceptions that I had as well so I may as well say them here: (not mentioning the movepools)
1. Dragon was a physical type before the physical/special split:
I honestly don't know what made me think this, but I finally just looked it up when I was told it was special and was just confused as I could have sworn that it wasn't special in Gens 1-3 though I know at least that it was always a special type in those games now
2. Rotom was a legendary:
Pretty much what this video stated but I found out sooner.
3. Steel resisting water in Gens 2-5:
I honestly don't know why I thought this but I find it funny that it has always been water resisting steel and me just thinking they nerfed steel harder than they actually did
4. Palkia being Psychic type:
This is mostly just me misremembering the typing rather than anything else even if it is wrong.
I use to believe that electric and metal types were resistant towards each other.
I used to think Audino was blind due to its eyes, and it’s emphasis on ears and sound
I used to think the Gen 4 games were bootlegs because my friendgroup all had Gen 3 games, which we referred to as "Pokemon" so when there was suddenly new games that kids were also calling "Pokemon" my immediate assumption was that they were fakes of some kind
That’s how I pretty much felt when I saw the first Japanese leaks of Gen 5 material, given that I started with Sinnoh and that was my idea of Pokémon.
Fun fact, in t'he gold and Silver beta steel is weak to water
Water should rust steel!
Agreed!
I used to see Armaldo and Anorith's ear plumes as their eyes
I used to think Bronzor was based on a shield instead of a mirror
It’s interesting since it’s based on how ancient bronze mirrors look *now* - rusted, not reflective, dull - rather than how they appeared at the time, which obviously was more shiny and mirror-like. The dull grey coloration it has matches Bronzong more and definitely makes it look more like another tool rather than a mirror.
I also thought rotom was legendary
Bronzong: Hey buddy my eyes are down here.
I thought Fairy is weak to fire
How do we change the Rotom forms?
The bronzong face?! Omgg
Bronzong: my eyes are down here
I use to think there was a gas type
I always thought hyper beam was a dragon type move
Given that it’s one of the rarest/most powerful raw moves, I can see why you thought that!
I used to think electric was weak to water because I thought water would cause electric Pokémon to electrocute themselves
when i was younger i had a lot of misconceptions about type matchups like i thought water beat poison and steel beat fire and i still get confused whether fire resists fairy or fairy resists fire
also i thought zorua and zoroark were legendary/mythical because they were so exclusive in their debut game that they functionally were
I used to think that ice resisted water flying and grass
Sike, it only resists… itself 🥲
@@TamValleyProductions disappointment of my life 😔
I used to think that fossil pokemon were legendary's
I used to think Pokemon cod have 3 types
Discord squad!
Major W 😎
I used to think berry were only four selling🫐🍓
Always thought Skarmory and Slugma were gen 3 mons just because they were so common in RSE (never had this issue with Chinchou, Natu, and Girafarig weirdly enough).
A recent misconception is that fire is a fairy type's weakness.
