Im am somewhat proud of infernape here. Was my starter in gen 4 back in the days and since then has always been my favorite pokemon. Great design and it packs one hell of a punch.
*Buzz lightyear zooming out meme Infernape was not only the most popular starter from it's own gen by far. It was also the best starter for competitive at the time until speed boost was released for blaziken.
@@ApenasUmIdiota bulbasaur destroys the first 2 gyms, resists lt. Surge in the third one and is neutral to Erika in the fourth gym. Plus he has sleep powder pretty early and sleep is broken in gen 1. He’s only bad against Sabrina and in the seventh gym against Blaine’s fire type but by that point you should have a full team of 6 available which can beat that. Squirtel is great but isn’t just as great as Bulbasaur as he loses against Surge and he has a lot of competition with Gyarados for your water type on your team. Charmander is only nice to have for Erika but you get fire type alternatives right there. You can get Vulpix or Growlith dependent on which edition you had, or you evolve your free Eevee into Flareon and teach it flamethrower. You can also just use a flying type.
@@MrDeykar I agree with bulbasaur being the best choice (since it's the most useful mon in the early parts of the game, which doesn't give you enough encounters)but bulbasaur does not get sleep powder early. It gets it at like level 41.
Testicular cancer is noticeable by swelling or uneven growth of the testicle. Also if the swelling is, for example, inside the testicle, it will die off. Which hurts alot. Like getting kicked in the balls, but worse.
There was a time when i got myself an infernape and called it Star Platinum, merely because they looked pretty similar to me. You can imagine how happy i was when it learned Close Combat.
Love the Emboar appreciation, carried me at so many points in gen 5 nuzlockes. Hits like an absolute truck but has the bulk to take hits if needed. Happy to see it in A tier
Im glad you have Delphox on here. So many people hate Delphox but once you get Flamethrower and Psychic on there it just destroys everything in its path
@@Nosretep It learns mystical fire at 36 and flamethrower at 42 in gen 6 and after that mystical fire is a lvl move and flamethrower at 45. Mystical fire works fine until Flamethrower is available. Plus if you get a heart scale it can learn shadowball or with TM Shadowball, Dazzling Gleam, Solarbeam and Echoed Voice. Not to mention Calm Mind and Nasty Plot
I do agree with this tier list. Although he didn’t cover Charizard for X and Y. Also I’m really happy that Delphox is in the A tier because I think Delphox is underrated.
She just has too much type advantage over the important battles to put either of the other two above her. No she can't do much to most of Team Flare, and no she can't do anything about the Greninja that your rival will have, but that's what we have Gardevoir for.
Nah! Empoleon's a trash bird. It's carried entirely by that Steel typing. Take it away and it'd be F tier. Besides, you got plenty of better water and steel types to choose from in Sinnoh. Why give up on those and two better starters just to have an oompa loompa penguin drag you down?
@@DeathLeprecon Yeah thats the point, a lot of pokemon wouldnt be good without their second typing, thats why they have that second typing, to be good 💀💀💀
Yeah. All 3 Sinnoh starters have a lot that make them great. Torterra has great offences and bulk and a good move pool. Plus in terms of grass type competition, the only decent alternative is Roserade. But Roserade is a stone evo and doesn’t get good until it’s fully evolved and kitted out. Plus poison isn’t as great for offence as ground. Empoleon avoids the issues plaguing Blastoise and Feraligator by having the unique steel typing giving it an absurd amount of resistances and utility that something like Gyarrados can’t easily replicate. Like, it’s a water type you’d want to choose which alone makes it stand out in a world with Gyarados, Vaporeon and Lapras. It is held back by its low speed and rather average defences. Infernape is obviously S Tier.
One thing in favor of Litten: picking it in sun and moon is the easiest way of dealing with that blasted Magnemite. Any other pick puts you too much at the mercy of rng and is a potential run killer. Popplio is weak to it, Rowlet is neutral but has no good offense, nothing you can catch at that point really helps ( and depending on how stringently you apply the rules, you might walk into that fight with just two mons, one of which will be your starter).
This is actually a really good point. That magnemite is one of the toughest things to deal with in Sun/Moon, especially with how limited the encounters are, and both Rowlet and Popplio are too slow and weak to effectively deal with it. Even if they survive (which is pretty hard with them since Magnemite would deal massive damage with thundershock and it outspeeds both), whoever left from the team after the Magnemite could very likely get defeated by Ilima I started with Rowlet and couldn't get past the magnemite since the only other thing I got was a Pikipek. Then I switched to Litten and after doing that I could continue the run
While it would take a long time, EV training Popplio in HP as much as you can allows for it to takes hits from magnemite relatively well and get a solid hit on it. From there, other team members should be able to wear it down and deal with it effectively.

It’s simple, combine the fact that it’s the third starter with it’s typing in a row with the fact it’s a gen 5 mon which, at least back in the day, were disliked by default.
@@Rarest26 1. Fire/Fighting is good, actually. GF should make more of them. 😎 2. Gen 5 was, is, and always will be the best Pokemon generation and just because a bunch of obnoxious people were wrong about that in 2011 doesn’t suddenly make a good Pokemon design worse.
He's always been my favourite starter since he released. There's nothing wrong with not liking his design but it's annoying how some people are still bitter about there being three Fire/Fighting starters in a row. It's a great typing.
I feel like Greninja's move pool was chosen based on two criteria: Being Ninja-like and giving him types to abuse Protean with. Unfortunately ninja moves aren't very hard hitting and Protean isn't available for Lockes. Meanwhile Cinderace gets less types to abuse Libero with but what they gave it actually has some impact to it. Gunk Shot and Iron Head are both solid enough moves, and its signature hits very hard.
facts imagine greninja with like scald and dark pulse in his level up moveset so you can go like water shuriken scald dark pulse and coverage or maybe u turn/flip turn and then instead of water shuriken coverage. This thing would be crazy
8:03 I've been thinking this forever now. The "decaduey" always bothered me just enough but then I got thinking about Blastoise and Charizard and I realized nothing makes sense anymore. Say whatever works best for you 😂
Delibird too. People say Deli Bird. When it's actually a pun off the word "Delivered" because it's a bird that delivers things and has nothing to do with lunch meat. In reality, Delibird should be said with the annunciation to where it rhymes with "Delivered".
I wonder if you could something like this but for common "early game" Pokemon. IE: early route rodents/bugs/birds/fish if fishing is available early There's another person who did a similar list to this but I think it'd be interesting to hear your take on it.
Staraptor is legit absolutely busted. Once you give it CCombat, Max Friendship Return and Brave Bird; *_get your popcorn ready cause that thing’s bout to oneshot_*
I know right?! Serves Greninja right for always being #1. It always feels nice when underrated Pokémon like Chesnaught or Delphox can actually get the chance to shine and be above Greninja. I would've been fine for if they made the Kalos starters balanced with attention and how they work but they had to give it all to Greninja and only Greninja to the point to where anytime I see Greninja, I start to get upset/cringe knowing that the other Kalos starters are just forgotten. I mean, Greninja literally made a cameo in Pokémon Café Remix. The other starters probably would've worked better but no. Greninja. I don't want to hate Greninja and I'm not saying that my opinion is better then anyone else's. I just have dealt with this situation for years now and wish for there to be a change so Greninja can take a back seat for once and let the other Kalos starters or really any other Kalos Pokémon have the chance to shine.
@@brandonfazbear4219 that’s because greninjas just that much better, in its own game x And y it’s handles the second gym, the 7th and 8th gym plus two elite four members if you have ice beam, plus after a while it just outspeeds everything and one shots mostly everything else. @@ziel32 Okay but its outclassed by every single water type in the game not called Luvdisc because they all get Ice Beam anyways and i would rather have a Chesnaught or a Delphox always. @@accentillia8116 greninja is water dark? And how In the world is it out classed? Without ev training and just doing the sorry my greninja by the 8th gym had a a speed stat in the three hundreds with its special attack not far behind
As someone who uses samurott alot, one of its biggest advantages is his learnset. It has a priority move in aqua jet, set up move with sword dance, good coverage move in x-scissor (or ice beam if you're stupid enough to play it special) good stab move in early game, and waterfall in later game. It makes samurott go from mid to a genuine threat. Waterfall, x-scissor, aqua-jet and sword dance is an amazing set that you can get incredibly easily. It also learns most of those moves VERY EARLY. Also, there are no other good water types in unova aside from jellicent, which has a completely different utility, unlike emboar who can be replaced by darmanitan. Its bulk is enough to tank a few hits, and it has priority. To me, it should definitely be in A tier.
@@champagnefroggy3801 1: theres no sceptile in regular BW or BW2 nuzlocke playthrough 2: who would be stupid enough to send a water type against a grass type? 3: Grass and electric weaknesses are extremely easy to cover in a team, even on a nuzlocke. A single grass type covers both weaknesses.
Super happy to see my boy Infernape as the top Nuzlocke starter. Basically, it seems that starters who are fast, hit hard, have either good offensive and/or defensive typing and excel in solo battles seem to thrive more in hardcore nuzlockes.
I'd love for a vid where you go over all your lists and talk about how you'd improve the worst places on each. I love lil thought experiments like that.
Infernape actually recently became my favorite starter. Glad I chose well! Also, every 8 year old Pokemon fan is dying because of the placement of Charizard and Blastoise.

I've been thinking of doing a Pokémon White Nuzlocke, and I'm for sure choosing Tepig.
I’d say primarina is s-tier as it gets energy ball, combining with duel stab and the classic ice coverage you hit half the types for super effective and being immune to dragon as well is pretty big, especially in the ultra games

FINALLY IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR SO LONG DELPHOX IS THE BEST KALOS STARTER AND ALWAYS WILL BE FIRE PSYCHIC IS AMAZING AND THERES PRETTY MUCH NOTHING THAT RESISTS BOTH
I think he is understating the degree to which Meganium has a terrible matchup. Let’s just go down the list of things Meganium loses to: - Silver has an Ice type, a Poison/Flying type, another Poison type, a Steel type and Typhlosion. - Falkner has two Flying types. - Bugsy has 3 Bug types, 2 of which 4x resist grass. - Whitney is neutral. - Morty has 4 Poison types - Chuck is alright, you beat Poliwrath. - Jasmine has Steel types (although you have a neutral matchup for Steelix I guess) - Pryce has Ice types (which are all weak to Grass but still) - Claire has a Flying type and 3 Dragons. You’re neutral against Kingdra and Gyarados but probably still lose to them 1v1. - Petrel has Zubat, Koffing and Weezing, all of which know Flying or Poison type moves. - Ariana has a Poison type, a Grass/Poison type and a Flying type. - Archer has 2 Fire types and a Poison type. - Will has 2 Xatu, an Exeggutor and a Jynx, all of which you lose to. You beat the Slowbro I guess. - Koga has… actually let’s not talk about Koga. - It beats Bruno’s Onix, which we all know is a very threatening Pokémon that there are very few counters to. - Karen has a Grass/Poison type, a Flying type, another Poison type and a Fire type. You don’t even beat the Umbreon because of Double Team. - Lance has 6 Flying types, 4 of which 4x resist Grass and one of those is a Charizard. So for main game Johto, Meganium loses to: - 5/6 of the Rival’s team. - 5/8 gym leaders (I’m being generous and calling Pryce neutral) - All 3 of the Rocket Executives (every single one of their Pokémon in fact) - 3 Elite Four members and the Champion. As for things it has a good matchup against: - Chuck’s Poliwrath - Will’s Slowbro - Bruno’s Onix It gets better if you get to Kanto, but even there it’s still bad. If we look at the gyms, you: - Beat the first 3, however Misty has Ice type coverage on half her team and Surge probably still stalls you out with Paralysis and Double Team. - Erika has 4 Grass types which it can’t touch, 2 of which have secondary Poison or Flying typings. - Janine is about as good of a matchup as her father. - Sabrina is neutral (at best). - Blaine has Fire types. - Blue has a 2 Flying types, a Grass type and a Fire type. You can beat the Rhydon. - You can beat Red’s Pikachu, but Lapras, Blastoise and even Snorlax all carry Blizzard, and you get hard-countered by Venusaur and Charizard. So even in Kanto, Meganium: - Loses to 4 gyms - Beats 3 gyms (if I’m being generous with Surge) - And loses to Red. This is a shit Pokémon.
Let's compare it to Serperior. Loses the first gym, like all starters Is neutral against Lenora Loses hard against Burgh It loses against Elesa's flying rats, like the other 2 Starters. Wins against Clay except maybe Excadrill Loses against Skyla and Pryce. Is oddly not awful against Drayden/Iris due to Coil + Return. If it wasn't for dragon tail i would call this equal. Loses against all of Cheren's battles, and a bit harder than the other starters. Is neutral against Bianca. Neutral against second N, loses third and fourth N, and fares oddly well in final N due to fossil mons giving Serperior setup opportunity. Is overall neutral against the elite 4, each time it has a good matchup is followed by an awful one, and somewhat loses to Catleya's Sigilyph. Results: Loses hard to also 5 gyms, good in 1 and neutral in 2. It's saving grace has to be Coil and Growth, allowing Servine/Serperior to be a decent setup sweeper in a gen where those are lacking. But let's be real, it gets outclassed by Lilligant in that role, who gets quiver dance at 28, Giga drain at 26 and has access to sleep powder from the get go. Black 2 White 2 is softer but not really, because the cost of an easy 8th gym is the elite 4 lacking mons Serperior takes in a 1v1 no problem bar Krookodile. Still, that is much better Meganium, where it at least has battles where it is the legit best choice.
Because grass is not good in unova And its moves are not the best And its stats are weird Thats why And you are playing hard mode when you choose snivy
I just recently used it in my play through serperior lacks offense and defense u have leech seed but terrible offense hurts serperior i used coil, leech seed, leaf blade, toxic(which i didn't used coz serperior lacks defense) limited asf kinda sucke tbh
Having played through a sword nuzlocke with Cinderace, I can confirm that its an incredible pokemon. Level 36 pyro ball is awesome, bulk isn't great but is honestly better than you'd expect for a fast fire type, along with some decent utility moves in u-turn and flame charge. Ok, honestly its mostly pyro ball, but a bp 120 stab fire move with zero drawbacks from a base 116 attack stat is insane. It just kills everything.
@@megacharizardx5515 completely irrelevant with how early you get wide lens tbh. It effectively becomes a flare blitz that doesn’t deal recoil at the cost of no lefties (which Id ban anyway) or specs/scarf
I didn't think it was possible for me to have strong opinions about starter Pokemon until he put Serperior in the F tier. That grass snek was one of my favorites
Serpeior got screwed when they designed it for Contrary but you can't get it for an ingame playthrough. It's slow to come online, but Contrary makes Serperior incredibly fun in Blaze Black/White 1 and 2
Hard agree. I adore Serperior, and you'd think that with "good" bulk, Leech Seed, and Coil, it would be able to...be good? But yeah, non-contrary Serperior in a lot of situations ends up being pretty underwhelming and dying to that one Throh on Twist Mountain.
I actually walled Cheren with just servine in my first nuzlocke after Skyla. I got lucky against his unfeazant after leaf tornado crit+ accuracy drop twice in a row. And then I set up coils against his pignite then leaf blade one shot everyone. Obviously lost to Brycen’s gym shortly after.
Don't know what you're talking about, it's always been the favorite out of the gen2 starters for most people, and it's well-known by this point how good it is during the main game playthrough
@@RussianBearMafia When you look at their stats, that's true. But that's really not getting at anything beyond just a base level observation, seeing as the 2 Pokemon are actually pretty different in a number of significant ways besides just their stat distribution, which is something that from what I've seen before is a fact that not everyone seems to be able to grasp
Makes me super happy that Venasaur is so high up there, he's always been one of my favorite Pokémon since he was my very first (well, Bulbasaur I mean) and it usually my first choice when replaying FireRed and LeafGreen since he can wipe the floor with Brock and Misty even before Level 20!
To be fair, so can Wartortle. Misty is ONLY difficult if you chose charmander AND didn't pick up a grass/lightning type (you can get pikachu in the woods if you're lucky, and bellesprout is super common right outside cerulean city). The harder gyms are arguably sabrina (psychic has no weakness in gen 1) and Giovani (since he isn't type-locked like the others).
@@PlaymakerVGC Dragon would probably be too busted for a playthrough and although fairy definitely wotks for it, they aren't gonna go back to give Meganium it, unfortunately.
Delphox always gets hate and I never understand it cuz it's dope looking and it's cracked. The clear option imo. Also that Serperior hurt. I mean I get it but.... not my baby
Meganium's problem is that it's A. In a generation where being grass paints a target on your back, and B. That it doesn't specialize in any one or two stats. Having a good stat spread makes all the difference in a pokemon, why do you think Garchomp was used more than Mega Garchomp?
@@iantaakalla8180 It was sort of said in the video: Kanto. He mentioned Venasaur is similar to Meganium but is in a region where being a grass type works out better.
@@lenabean9153 Plus Meganium doesn't have a psychic weakness so is neutral to sabrina. Also if you are talking gen 1 as opposed to gen 3 flying and poison get a lot worse moves so grasses weaknesses are covered up in a big way.
Meganium might be F tier, but I love them. I beat a SoulSilver nuzlocke with them. I used a combo with Sunny Day for 1 turn solarbeam, specifically to counter Clair's Kingdra. I even beat Red with them (underleveled, because SoulSilver refuses to give EXP), as Meganium was the only thing on my team that could reliably beat Pikachu. Jolly Feraligatr after a Dragon Dance is at a speed comparable to Deoxys. I don't think it's the best, but being the only water starter to naturally learn an ice move definitely helps
I would most agree with this tier list but I have one objection, greninja should be swapped with empoleon. Greninja has moves to cover most of its weaknesses, it takes super affective damage from 5 types. Bug, fighting, electric, grass and fairy. It cover 4 of its weaknesses with it WIDE move pool it can learn dig for electric types, acrobatics for bug types and fighting types and grass types and with protean this 110 base power move then becomes stab. Keep in mind that it also gets extrasensory for fighting types which goes very nice with its 103 special attack. With protean all of these moves become stab. It cannot cover its fairy weakness, however you only face fairy once in gen 6 and there are plenty of poison types you can get access to to deal with Valerie. Empoleon is the worst for its generation, the other 2 starters do very well against it and can destroy them because they both have access to high power stab super effective moves in earthquake for torterra and close combat for infernape . It covers 2 of the 3 weaknesses, However the moves it gets access to for the coverage are not stab. one of them is a physical move and the other is a special move. Electric types are very prominent in platinum and one of the final gym leaders has a jolteon and raichu. it cannot deal with some of the earliest gym leaders which matter more because of the limited team options. In my opinion greninja should have been bottom of s tier if not A tier. Its high speed and good coverage make it a good Pokémon. I mean I was surprised when you said its move coverage sucks. But this is just my opinion
Personally I used Feraligatr just due to my familiarity via my short competitive run. My current one in my HGSS nuzlock which is my best party member uses Screech, Shadow Clae, Waterfall, and Ice Fang.
It is technically better than the other two, but the thing is, it's a water type in a game with a free lv 30 Gyarados that's basically a free win button
Hell yeah, Primarina squad! I played in an RP server that featured an original region and my character's Primarina scored a victory against the final member of the E4's Mega Ampharos! We used Pokemon Showdown to settle battles.
I do wonder where Partner Pikachu and Eevee would place. Eevee is a great support Pokemon and all its moves have a great secondary effect. I suppose if you ban their special moves then they’re both only slightly better than Yellow Pikachu (since Pikachu and Eevee can learn double kick before getting to Brock and you can get a Bellsprout/Oddish which you have to have to get into the gym anyway)
This list is a heartbreaker. Meganium's design is just gorgeous. I've always loved this Pokemon. It it what it is though if your sole goal is winning. I will always pick Chikorita in gen2. :)
What I am surprised most by is how low Incineroar is and how high Decidueye is. Decidueye felt weak af in my playthrough of Sun. So I chose Incineroar in Ultra Sun and absolutely demolished the game with it.
Yeah I get that. Decidueye didn't so much for me either. But I think that might be because half my teams was pretty bad. Cloyster was very disappointing (I didn't ev train so it was failing to one shot anything) and Salazle is a cool Pokemon but it's move pool is shallow and it's defense are terrible. But the other half of my team really picked up the slack. Metagross was a beast. Hawlucha basically swept half the game for me and Zourark took down Ultra Necrozama and mega mew two

Great design and it packs one hell of a punch.

Infernape was not only the most popular starter from it's own gen by far. It was also the best starter for competitive at the time until speed boost was released for blaziken.
I believe way back in Gen 1 the starter choice was meant as a difficulty slider.
Grass easy, Water normal and fire as hard mode.
That’s a different way of looking at it
Using Bulbasaur sucked so much, Squirtle best choice ngl, to me it's:
Water easy, Fire normal and Grass hard mode
@@MrDeykar lets be honest, no one ever lost to brock and for misty theres bellsprouts and oddishes next to her.

Nah! Empoleon's a trash bird. It's carried entirely by that Steel typing. Take it away and it'd be F tier. Besides, you got plenty of better water and steel types to choose from in Sinnoh. Why give up on those and two better starters just to have an oompa loompa penguin drag you down?
@@DeathLeprecon cope
@@DeathLeprecon Yeah thats the point, a lot of pokemon wouldnt be good without their second typing, thats why they have that second typing, to be good 💀💀💀
@@accentillia8116 Bam! Get whimsy, fools.
Even if they survive (which is pretty hard with them since Magnemite would deal massive damage with thundershock and it outspeeds both), whoever left from the team after the Magnemite could very likely get defeated by Ilima
I started with Rowlet and couldn't get past the magnemite since the only other thing I got was a Pikipek. Then I switched to Litten and after doing that I could continue the run
While it would take a long time, EV training Popplio in HP as much as you can allows for it to takes hits from magnemite relatively well and get a solid hit on it.
From there, other team members should be able to wear it down and deal with it effectively.

I feel like Greninja's move pool was chosen based on two criteria: Being Ninja-like and giving him types to abuse Protean with. Unfortunately ninja moves aren't very hard hitting and Protean isn't available for Lockes. I don't want to hate Greninja and I'm not saying that my opinion is better then anyone else's.

PC trying to convince us he isn’t a furry again. Keep asking questions.
I think he is understating the degree to which Meganium has a terrible matchup. Let’s just go down the list of things Meganium loses to:
- Silver has an Ice type, a Poison/Flying type, another Poison type, a Steel type and Typhlosion.
- Falkner has two Flying types.
- Bugsy has 3 Bug types, 2 of which 4x resist grass.
- Whitney is neutral.
- Morty has 4 Poison types
- Chuck is alright, you beat Poliwrath.
- Jasmine has Steel types (although you have a neutral matchup for Steelix I guess)
- Pryce has Ice types (which are all weak to Grass but still)
- Claire has a Flying type and 3 Dragons.
So for main game Johto, Meganium loses to:
- 5/6 of the Rival’s team.
- 5/8 gym leaders (I’m being generous and calling Pryce neutral)
- All 3 of the Rocket Executives (every single one of their Pokémon in fact)
- 3 Elite Four members and the Champion.
As for things it has a good matchup against:
- Chuck’s Poliwrath
- Will’s Slowbro
- Bruno’s Onix
It gets better if you get to Kanto, but even there it’s still bad.
If we look at the gyms, you:
- Beat the first 3, however Misty has Ice type coverage on half her team and Surge probably still stalls you out with Paralysis and Double Team.
So even in Kanto, Meganium:
- Loses to 4 gyms
- Beats 3 gyms (if I’m being generous with Surge)
- And loses to Red.

Wins against Clay except maybe Excadrill
Loses against Skyla and Pryce.
Results:
Loses hard to also 5 gyms, good in 1 and neutral in 2.

But that's really not getting at anything beyond just a base level observation, seeing as the 2 Pokemon are actually pretty different in a number of significant ways besides just their stat distribution, which is something that from what I've seen before is a fact that not everyone seems to be able to grasp
@@matthewkuscienko4616 who are you trying to make a point to, word salad?
@@RussianBearMafiaI mean, Typhlosion's popular, nonetheless...
I always love some Emboar praise
Just hearing Jan say Decidueye in the commonly accepted way is all I wanted. Now I can laugh at the meme
finally some embor love, tepig is my all time favorite starter for alot of reasons. im really happy to see its evo line get some love
@@kingofbudokai Pikachu still gets swiped by Starmie who is faster and can withstand thundershock
Honestly Jan, Emboar is very underrated. Love the entire line, even Pignite.
Bulbasaur gets A tier? I'll take it.
A rank in the charts, SSS rank in our hearts.
Good job, little cabbage.
Ok, but consider: leech seed, substitute, sleep powder, giga drain
@@tianmuhe3971 where is razor leaf? literally its best move?
thanks
Starters have great stats, people need to take better care of them in Nuzlockes.
Btw Poor Meganium. I love how it looks but it's just trash. :(
Really needed a 2nd type (not sure which, but definitely another)
@@PlaymakerVGC Dragon would probably be too busted for a playthrough and although fairy definitely wotks for it, they aren't gonna go back to give Meganium it, unfortunately.
When you think about how Chuck's Poliwrath is the only Pokemon on any Gym Leader's team in Johto that Chikorita gets to hit super effectively
Delphox always gets hate and I never understand it cuz it's dope looking and it's cracked. The clear option imo. Also that Serperior hurt. I mean I get it but.... not my baby
finally, primarina got the award she got
87,5% for being male
Meganium's problem is that it's A. In a generation where being grass paints a target on your back, and B. That it doesn't specialize in any one or two stats. Having a good stat spread makes all the difference in a pokemon, why do you think Garchomp was used more than Mega Garchomp?
Then which region would Meganium do nicely in given that Grass still has many weaknesses and Meganium has no niches or tricks it can pull off well?
@@iantaakalla8180 It was sort of said in the video: Kanto. He mentioned Venasaur is similar to Meganium but is in a region where being a grass type works out better.
@@lenabean9153 Plus Meganium doesn't have a psychic weakness so is neutral to sabrina.
Also if you are talking gen 1 as opposed to gen 3 flying and poison get a lot worse moves so grasses weaknesses are covered up in a big way.
One of the best things about samourott is that it gets swords dance by level up and is bulky enough to get at least one off
There’s nothing like taking a hot shower and listening to you being validated that your favorite Pokémon is the best starter.
I love the defense of the deki-dewey pronunciation. Excellent comedy and also almost a convincing argument XD
It was definitely a scuffed fight, but I had fun.
Same. My female bayleef beat the bajeezus out of Whitney's miltank on the first go.
As someone who always picks Meganium for Gen 2, I've never felt more proud.
Me too. I enjoy my pain. Let's just say early reflect and/or light screen with growth is pretty good
@@cleannation1 I only pick it because Cyndaquil and Totodile are so mainstream and boring, but it is really good for Nuzlockes late-game. Mine is called Maui.
@@banoly4161 i use it because of early guaranteed screens. It's so fat that you just max it's EVs and click growth on everything. Or you can go Leech Seed, Sleep Powder, Screens if you're a real stall lord
I feel like With Greninja it would be significantly better with water Shuriken being obtained sooner and maybe 2 or 3 coverage Moves at least.
or if water shuriken was a good move. like its just a weaker, less reliable waterfall
@@adamp327 water shuriken is good cuz of priority
@@Chelsea-ho7um except you don't really need priority on an already fast Pokémon for in-game
@@adamp327 Waterfall isn't obtained until just before the 8th gym. Water Shuriken would have good use as a physical water move early game and midgame until then.
Admittedly, Surf shits on Water Shuriken though.
@@breloommaster12 you need it to outspeed other priority users, which is very important for a frail Pokemon
Jolly Feraligatr after a Dragon Dance is at a speed comparable to Deoxys. I don't think it's the best, but being the only water starter to naturally learn an ice move definitely helps
P sure it only gets ddance through breeding
Finally another Emboar enjoyer
Average Serperior Fan: *0*
Average Emboar Enjoyer: :)
Granted, Gyara was at its lowest in gen 2, but it's still a menace there regardless
Recent events have fried my brain. I expected blast-iss for blastoise but "Cha-rizzard" got me😂
Well obviously, it's a Charred Lizard
Hell yeah, Primarina squad! I played in an RP server that featured an original region and my character's Primarina scored a victory against the final member of the E4's Mega Ampharos! We used Pokemon Showdown to settle battles.
Torterra is the best starter because I used it to heal stall Cynthia in BDSP. Call me a coward but it worked.
Infernape can one shot with Flare Blitz and Close Combat.
@@Nosretep That would've been the case if it wasn't OHKO the Garchomp
@@rolandholmdahl797 It can with Close Combat.
I would have laughed so hard if you pulled a Pikachu out at the end for SSS+ tier.
Counting Yellow, I argue Pikachu is the real bottom tier.
I think Pikachu is somehow WORSE THAN MEGANIUM. It just gets so easily walled. And yeah, he's right about Serperior, Lilligant is just better.
This list is a heartbreaker. Meganium's design is just gorgeous. I've always loved this Pokemon. It it what it is though if your sole goal is winning. I will always pick Chikorita in gen2. :)
I agree, meganium was my first starter as gold was my first ever pokemon game.
Same reason I always pick Snivy in Gen 5.
bro i’m so glad some of these underrated starters are getting love
What I am surprised most by is how low Incineroar is and how high Decidueye is. Decidueye felt weak af in my playthrough of Sun. So I chose Incineroar in Ultra Sun and absolutely demolished the game with it.
Opposite for me, Decidueye was my star member.
Hawlucha basically swept half the game for me and Zourark took down Ultra Necrozama and mega mew two
Yeah I used all three starters in my Pokemon Sun playthrough and it felt as if Primarina and Incineroar were a lot better than Decidueye.
