The audience knew that this was pure brilliance and that they needed to pay attention to every last second. Very different music, very different people, very different time.

When Gord was in his vocal prime he had the most beautiful voice a man has ever been blessed with.

And yet, he disliked his voice intensely. "I" thought it was beautifully melancholic - especially in songs like, "Talking In Your Sleep."

The Eaton's catalogue reference is amusing. What a talent. This must have been late 60"s, early 70"s. I love that there were young men wearing jackets and ties. I first saw Gordie at Convocation Hall at U of Toronto in 1972. What a lovely memory this is. Thanks Gordie for your wonderful melodies, insight into life's pains and loves and your golden tones. We all will miss you. Thanks for the memories.

Please release the entire concert in one video. As an American, I've never had an opportunity to see or hear this. Been a fan of Gordy since 1967. Saw him for the 1st time opening for Peter, Paul and Mary in Wash. D.C. On vacation in 1969.

Gordon Lightfoot is Amazing. The audience was in a trance listening to the words and every note. They seem so respectful and much different than the kids of today. Makes you curious where the people in the audience are now.

What is up with the youngsters in the front looking like they're being forced to sit quietly,...funny.
Yes, the song was always one of my favorites as well. I met him in 1973, outback of the Tanglewood, Ma. open air performance center . He gave me half a Foster's beer, said he had already had too much to drink and went in and gave an incredible show! Inspired me to keep on playing My Guitar and I still by heart. He was a great poet with a most expressive voice. I had just turned 23. I was born in 1950, so that would have made him ? I only saw him one time after in 2007 in Burlington,Vt. He was still awesome but he had lost his youthful voice! I was busking on Church St. at the time practcally every day and doing well playing many of his songs.
He and Bob Dylan taught me how to perform and write songs;Woody Guthrie too and all the great bluesmem and wom,en of the South.
I just learned how disciplined he was working in his 'stock and trade'.
I have been learning some of his songs that I missed all those years ago. I never realized he had such an extensive portfolio of songs. It seems he was revered in the music industry.
When I heard he had died I cried the whole day and maybe the next day a little. I had had a premonition since I had read about his failing health, that it would not be long. I think Dylan may live to be 100! I hope he does at least.
The poets and singers of the world remind us that we need to be good to each and not merely users pf each other .
I am proud to say, that I drank beer with Gordon Lightfoot and he gave me a pat on the back, and said enjoy the show!
If there really is a place called ' heaven',I am certain his spirit lives, still,in Peace.(He and Stompin Tom!)

@gordonlightfoot865 All your catalouge is gold to me but the first time I heard the wreck I was doing yard work with the radio on and had to stop and turn everything off to listen to this beautiful ballad for the first time living only a stone throw from lock one of the Welland Canal and having seen Edmond Fitzgerald a few times wondering if she would fit in that lock.

Yes, well, people did at one time, listen quietly while music was being played. And still do in some places. (Not right now, sadly as all we music people are home making music for ourselves or online.)
