I'm 68 yrs old. I remember hearing this song on the radio the first time. My older sister turned up the volume on the radio & extolled her love of this song. It's still a favorite of mine.
What an amazing talent Glen Campbell was. I still have his 45 recording of Where's The Playground Susie from 1969. In those days you only had the radio to listen to and a hits of the week from TV. It was a lot harder to become a star in those days and a star he was. 😀
My wife and I saw glen play this and his hits in an outdoor concert in a field in Thomas county at a plantation in 2005 !… I was literally brought to tears … one of the best guitarist in the world !… to say that night was a pleasure is a big understatement 👍❤️👍
I was too young and stupid to appreciate him in the late sixties and through the seventies... Now, I wish that I'd seen what he had to offer! GENIUS! It was a storied life that he lived,... still his talent and GENIUS will live on!!! God bless him and the memory of Glen Campbell!!!
One of the best grass roots all American kid with incredible talent. His worst later years were a nightmare for him in Phoenix Arizona with a Sheriff named Joe Arpaio. He was arrested on a DUI, and Ol' Joe made him do concerts for the inmates. After that incident he left Arizona. You can see images of him being arrested on Google. Ol' Joe couldn't resist exposing him publicly with videos and photo posts of his arrest.
Saw Glen three times, the last being his farewell tour. He forgot the words but somehow kept playing. We all were silently rooting for him. Finally, the words came back, we cheered, and shortly after the performance ended. I am glad I went to hear him despite knowing what was before him. Seeing videos reminds me of happy times, but I will never forget how you could feel the audience silently saying, come on Glen, you can do it, and he did not disappoint. I watched as his daughter loving played by his side being his personal cheerleader. The rest of us just spectators of man whose gift from God was immense talent.
Apart from his world-class chops as a guitarist - what an amazing entertainer! Sitting up in front of the Boston Pops Orchestra as if they were a juke-joint band and facing that Bostonian (read as ‘stuffy’) audience like a it was an intimate gathering. What a gift he had and what a great gift he left for us all!
@@karenleclair7890 why not stuffy? Bostonians are stuffy. Ivory-Tower Bostonians at the Pops in the 70s were stuffy people. I was born and raised in the shadow of Boston on the South Shore. No, the Pops and its audience were not stuffy. They performed contemporary (at the time) music arranged for an orchestra. My parents were definitely not stuffy people and they loved going to the Pops. One of my life's regrets is that I never took them up on the offer to go with them to see Arthur Fieldler and the Boston Pops. I had no idea they were such a cultural institution. Such is the curse of youthful stupidity. There's probably a good chance my parents were at THAT show because that was in the right time period for their nights out at the Pops.
Who said Americans still don't like good musicians when 16 thousand people give this a thumbs up to this. Glen did more this night here just look for it under PBS.
❤ Amen to that he really made those Ovation guitars sing.😂 another great one by Glenn is the William Tell Overture. He was really my favorite guitarist in the 1960s. I wish I would have been able to sit down and talk to him for a couple hours about music we miss you my brother

Back in the early 1970s my brother (rest in peace, died 1995) worked at a distinguished musical instrument sales store on the same block as Symphony Hall in Boston. Among his job tasks was to service the account for the Boston Symphony and Pops Orchestras. This was well before the digital era but regardless Symphony Hall needed P/A equipment, amplifiers as well as speakers, microphones etc. So my brother became the "Go-To" sales representative for the Symphony. This when I listen to these older recordings I realize that at least in part, my brother's work continues on.
I was in the Army during the middle of the Viet Nam conflict 1967 when I 1st heard the song GALVESTON....I was 21 yrs old...I'm 75 now....how time flys...
classical gas, my HS sophomore year our marching band played this song. during band camp, our first attempt to play in full assemble, i was the only tbone player to brack out the notes in the eight beat bridge. on beat six my eyes met with the band directors eyes, he simply shouted "thank you michael". for some reason, this is still clear in my memory, as if it happened an hour ago.
I agree. If given a dueling challenge by one of them, he could have at least equaled them if not surpassed them. Glen Campbell could do anything he put his mind to doing.
All I can say is, *"WOWWWWW!"* Mason Williams' masterpiece has always amazed & thrilled me on its own. But I was blown away by how Glen Campbell made it his own, here; another great musician & and master guitarist, himself. This performance *proves* it! Thank you, Glen, and may you *Rest in Peace...*
I miss Glen a lot, he was a fantastic and a very talented musician. RIP Glen, thanks for the many wonderful and enjoyable music that you gave the world.
Grew up with Glen Campbell since I was 3. As Ace Frehley said, He's one of the Elder Rock Gods. Play this for and around today's kids, they'll get into it. I introduced my secretarie's 14 year old daughter to music by musicians like Mr. Campbell now she's calling today's "artists" posers.
Damn. There is talent and then there is a select group that is beyond gifted. I loved finding this piece with Glen fronting the Boston Pops Orchestra. My dad loved them.
Most of these real country guitarists that my parents used to listen to were just fantastic. Glen Campbell and Roy Clark to name a couple!! They both had really good voices also. I sang in metal bands for over 20 yrs., covers and originals, and I've always loved their voices and musicianship! This is fantastic!!
I wouldn't say, "arguably", either *Faded Blue Jeans*. I think UNDENIABLY would be a far better word to bring justice to Glen who was also UNQUESTIONABLY one of the greatest guitarists this world has ever known. RIP, Glen! You are sorely missed...
I didn’t know that he didn’t read music, it baffles me how performers remember how to play all the different songs at live concerts without music (if you can’t read it probably doesn’t matter). I’ve seen Chuck Berry, Hall & Oates, Springsteen & E Street Band, Queen, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle with & without the Dukes, Jackson Brown, Paul Weller amongst many others. I’m heading for 60 and think I could try and learn guitar, then I watch this 😂
Heard this tune for the first time on the Andy Williams show in the 60's. Mason Williams was playing. Always been one of my favorite pieces of music. Love it today in 2021. G.C. just brings it home. 🎸🎶🎵📯🎺
I remember Glen from his show and all the other appearances on TV when I was a kid. It wasn't until a few years ago my boss asked me to dub a video of his "Goodbye" Concert in Kansas City that I truly appreciated how insanely talented he was as a player and a composer. That good old boy attitude and smile truly hid a musical genius & virtuoso.
A natural musician... such a phenomenal player... the world lost all this and more when Glenn passed.

Arthur Fiedler. Glen Campbell. Boston POPS. Nothing but pure talent in this video. Thank you to whomever had the sense to get this on film.

Virtuoso performance!
Just stumbled into this gem. Love it!
love ya 70's--one of the good memories
He and Roy Clark!!
Both Glenn Campbell and Roy Clark were incredibly talented.
You have to add Chet Akins to complete the Trifecta.
Buck Owen's also, but Owen's got blackballed in the music industry which hurt his career.
AMEN/MY FAVORITE TWO…..
Check out the videos of Glen with Jerry Reed
Kids of today have no idea of who these guys were and of how skilled they were.
