- Amy Imhoff of shoesandstarships.com spoke with Marina Sirtis, Nana Visitor, and Terry Farrell during 'Star Trek Mission New York' about the feminist impact their characters had on sci-fi and entertainment, what they took away from their experiences with the Trek franchise, and their hopes for the future.
I'm in love with Terry Farrell. She just radiates soul. And I got to meet the great and hilarious Marina Sirtis at a Comic Con in 2015. I told her I was nervous and she waved it away: "Oh honey, don't be nervous. I'm not Hollywood, I'm real people." I love her. Nana Visitor also seems lovely.
Delighted that Nana was on this one as Kira is my favorite Star Trek character.
wildsmiley Kira is my favourite as well!
Thank you so much for posting this panel! It was my favorite panel at the convention!
I thank you all for sharing your thoughts and feeling on what matters to you and to the fans. I enjoyed seeing your characters each week and love that your series had many episodes each year not like now with 13 if we are lucky.
Been a fan of Terry's since Hellraiser III. Looks amazing for 55, for her age is quite literally just a number. She seems like she's one of the most genuinely nice and sweet people you'll ever meet.
Dear God, the moderator asked the same question over and over, how many times did the guests say, "as I mentioned earlier?"
This is such a fantastic panel, thank you for uploading it.
Thank you so much for posting this panel, But I wish there was sub, I can't really hear them some times.
It was lovely to hear them all.
That said, I really valued Terry's and Nana's grounded approach. They just spoke truth and what was important to them.
It started feeling a bit like Marina was seeking a megaphone, hogging more time, side-tracking for a personal announcement, and needing to make statements as if it was a podium at a movement, and so on. Anyone else find that?
I felt Terry said a great deal more with so much less being spoken when she briefly described how she stood up for herself and her needs with DS9. It wasn't preaching or fluff; it was action and encouragement to self empowerment through example. The same went for Nana with how she found ways to still be true to her character.
Men... to think Jadzia is now my longest crush... 24 years and counting...
@Dream Girls Daily The only thing pathetic is your condescending attitude.
IN real life, she's a total jerk. I worked for James Doohan and Jonathan Frakes when they would come into Chicago and got to know a few cast members and she treated the fans like crap when not in public view.
Three fabulous humans. thanks for posting the video. As a guy, Terry Farrell's words about being good to yourself applies to everyone! I see too many men do the same thing and then put up a macho mask.
Hupersons*
@@DirkLasermaster Except the word "human" is completely unrelated to the word '"man", as used to denote an adult male of the human species. In fact, it's only in English that the word "human" by sheer coincidence even contains the word "man". Whereas in the French through which it entered (from the Latin, and ultimately Proto-Indo-European") the words are "humain" resp. "homme". Same in Spanish: "humano" and "hombre". Even in Italian it's "umano" and "uomo".
Thanks for posting, great to hear from these great actors I grew up watching. Audio an issue from the crowd...but from the actors was fine so that's all I cared about. Interesting sexist comments occasionally posted below...sad really...but that's the internet for you!
Look this panel of women, portraying a strong women characters (Janeway should've been up there too) .... ah the golden years of star trek.
knessi ng I thought Kate Mulgrew was an awesome Captain
Yes, Kate should have been at the head of the table!
Absolutely
This was a really good panel thanks for uploading it, really funny really deep and just so brilliant
Terry Farrell my love !!!!
ALL ??? So .... Where is JANEWAY , SEVEN of NINE , TORRES , NAOMI ......etc
It wasn't a botanist. It was geology in Imzadi.
I knew that didn't sound right
did not recognize Dax at first, with her hair down and color. and Kira still looks like Kira ... lets give her a Deep-space 9 Movie and in that movie have borg nanites resurrect Jadzia Dax.
And how would that work considering you would need to remove the symbiont from Ezri for Jadzia to be Dax?
@@ArcaneSurreal Well, You never know maybe it could be, parallel universe or something like that ❇
I wonder what Marina thinks about gates taking pictures of her action figure at her autograph table
Deanna is English {a Brit !} Love her accent .
I'm sorry to say I couldn't watch the entire video due to the echo in the room. I realize that during the capture there is not much you can do about the echo, however I am aware of free software that you can use to filter the echo somewhat after capture.
The left channel in the audio kept cutting out... What was up with that?
Thanks, I thought it was just me! I thought "Great, another pair of headphones broken from the wires coming away from the earpiece. I really gotta buy stocks in the headphones companies"! 🙂.
Nana has the most beautiful smile on the planet
who is the woman an the far left?; I cannot for the life of me understand her! Thank you for posting this!
She was the host I believe
You mean, woman of DS9 and TNG. lol, so many iconic female characters missing there that is almost ridiculous.
couldn't just get a board feed for the audio?
Sorry I couldn't find YOUR uploads genius.
shut up a420
I liked Deana Troi....but I do LOVE Marina
Why did terrie Ferrell not get to talk.
Terrible sound. Can not watch. Sorry
Can't hear a gd thing. Wtf?
Ds9 would have died in its first season if not for Jadzia, and worf later gave it more life. it was on death row when they killed off jadzia.
That's not really saying much since it was the last season.
Ds9 was a fantastic show
hollywood should do a mostly women star trek movie with women from different ST shows
It would fail like every other franchise that tries things like this this because there are a very small percentage of actual fans who wanted it.
VOLUME??????????????
Oh shit...here's Marina!!....
I hated that the action figures wouldn't sit down good.
what year is this
God bless Marina, she tries so hard and she gets it wrong 90% of the time, but she keeps learning and growing and that's straight up the definition of an ally.
where's keiko :(
Wow so cool 😎
nana = yum stop the youtube ads every 8 min woman and men can never be the same , woman will always have to much to loose....
I am soo much like Kira
1:01 Look at Sirtis' mindless applause!!!! She just has no respect for her fellow trek women whatsoever. It's all "me, me, me" with her.
OMG- awesome, hysterical moment/quote:
"I don't have to wear ugly lesbian shoes to be a strong woman" -Marina Sirtis
ua-cam.com/video/YCC7YPCZ2YY/v-deo.htmlh1m46s
(This is after explaining that the way in she & her character were/are alike is in their "girliness"- love going shopping, looking good: getting nails & hair done, good shoes/high heels)
I didn't like Kira as much, Jadzia has my heart.
She was my obsession for YEARS. So amazing and strong
A common problem I experience with actresses is when one like Marina Sirts is bubbly by nature. But she plays her character very subdued and unemotional. I like the act, and find the reality so disappointing.
I prefer Nana with dark hair.
Skipped through it, and notice Dax doesn't speak once. I guess she does if you watch fully, but clearly she speaks far less:(
She didn't have quite as much to say as the other ladies, but when she does speak it is important stuff. You should try skimming again if you are not interested in the full panel, I randomly skipped around and landed on plenty of spots.
At 25 minutes she has a reasonably long bit about 'Rejoined'.
Thank you. To be honest it was Marina's prattling on that made me skip forward.
Thank you, that made it all better:)
A pleasure. About 44 minutes and again at about 55 mins, if you need any more.
Terry Farrell seems to be a little delusional about her ability and attitude. Reading how she had the same fight on the show Becker and got written off and did not but a bunch of straight to videos before 'retiring' I really don't buy her story 100% ?maybe 60%
Shows how stupid these tests are. STV episode with Noss, is one of the best episodes and would fail.
It wasn't feminism that had an impact on Star Trek; Star Trek was a man's vision of a true meritocracy. Men and women of all races were valued because of their abilities and qualities regardless of their gender and race, not because of them. That is why Star Trek has been so popular. It is not a Feminist victory; Feminism has done nothing but fuck up Western societies, families and male-female relations. People don't want to see movies that insert characters only because they are a certain gender, sexual proclivity or race, they want characters who belong in their role, like Picard or Janeway. The sooner the feminists and SJWs fuck off out of the movie industry and let it return to making good plots and characters the better.
I agree.100 percent.
Well said!
B/
I guess Kate has class after all.
I love you Marina...but you're too full of yourself!!!!
Nope, she’s just being herself, she’s a very thoughtful and kind human being
Making entertainment into a political platform causes it to not be entertaining.
Dax could be the only one in history that is truly gender fluid because the slug has been a man and woman
Not keen on the term feminist would like the term Equalist or Egalitarianist
For crying out loud this host asks the most inane questions,
Just a load of SJW Trans, girl-power, Bechdel test rubbish. Marina, Nana and Terry were great just next time get other people to submit questions that aren't so saccharine.
The host kind of rubbed me wrong too, and I'm female.
The PC warriors of star trek. Those that don't fit the narrative aren't invited.
