    I grew up watching Reading Rainbow and Star Trek so going to this panel was a no brainer. Data fan should love this as Brent Spiner kinda steals the show with his impeccable comedic with and timing. LeVar and Jeri held their own in the best Trek panel I've attended. I would like to thank the Comicpalooza AV team, with out their assist this video wouldn't have gotten made.

    Brent has really grown into the whole fandom thing.
    I had the pleasure of meeting him at a convention in the early 1990s. He was on a panel about moving comics into movies and afterward, a lot of us went up to him for autographs and to say hello. He was amazed at how popular he was.

    23:05 What Brent Spiner said about people with Asperger's Syndrome really touched my heart. The StarTrek franchise saved my life now that I think of it.
    I went through a terrible depression that lasted all the way through my teenage years. Living alone with my dad was not easy , and I was under constant rejection from social groups at school. Knowing I had NextGen , DS9 and then Voyager to look forward to gave me what little hope that kept me from loosing control and taking my own life.

    I'm glad they're still doing Star Trek conventions...I'll sulk for eternity when and if they should ever stop. Seeing as new Trek television shows are still being made, I'm guessing they'll keep going forever at this rate but...still...the true Star Trek episodes are and always will be the ones I grew up with (TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager). They'll never be topped. To see these actors still attending and truly enjoying their work is inspiring and I hope they keep attending conventions for as long as their legs will carry them...or come in a wheel chair if need be ;)

    • @03chrisv
      @03chrisv Рік тому

      @@krane15 You can still look good but let's not kid ourselves, we as a species and society generally find youth to be very attractive. Pick any beautiful 50 year old women in the world, past or present, she will never be able to look as attractive or compete for male attention at the same level as her 25 year old self. Some people age gracefully, while others don't but in either case they're still aging.
      Jeri Ryan looks good when you consider her age, however if she looked the way she does now but it turned out she was 25 years old then most people would not find her very attractive, they would wonder if she's suffering from some disease or is on drugs.

      @@03chrisv You not getting it, its an age prejudice. Would you look at a 25 year old and say you look good -- for your age? What about a teenager? What about an infant? You would simply say the look good. Even though being young, does not guarantee you will be attractive.
      Thing is, when you relate looking good in reference to youth, you're subconsciously implying that age makes people ugly. That may be true, but when connected to what is "interned as a compliment", in fact, nullifies that through the reminder that the first thing you recognize is that they are old.
      In other words, you're saying they're old, but they look OK. I find it odd that people think they're giving others some huge compliment like that.
      BTW, I'm not directing that specifically to you; rather, its one of those cultural habits that I've always found peculiar.

    • @03chrisv
      @03chrisv Рік тому

      @@krane15 It's not age prejudice, it's acknowledging reality and accepting it for what it is. Youth is generally more attractive than being old, it's hard wired into our biology. Yes, some people can age gracefully but it doesn't change the fact that a beautiful 50 year woman can't compete with her 25 year old self in terms of sexual attractiveness and beauty. Jeri Ryan is still pretty, but let's not pretend that she wasn't prettier in her 20s.
      You can't change reality based on some misguided sense of social justice and equality. I see the world for how it is, not how it ought to be in order to make everyone "feel better". If somone wants to interpret my comment as a back handed compliment then that's on them, I'm not going to cater to easily offended people that just want to find problems and make mountains out of molehills.

    Really great video, thanks for uploading! Three of my very favorite Trek actors, and Mr Spiner was hilarious as always! I think my favorite bit was the exchange between Brent and Jeri about pronunciation (starting 52:38) - not only was it nice to see the two bouncing off each other, but we got some great trivia AND quotes of some classic lines! :)

      Yeah that was funny Jeri interrupting Brent calling BS lol, also like the lady holding the 15 year grudge and Brent's reunion with his "son". I've seen Brent solo before and you're right it's better when the cast can interact and bounce stuff off each other.

      Renegade Geek I think for me, the ultimate cast get-together would be all the cast of TNG but just them chatting in some kind of informal bar setting rather than on a stage, so they're not answering anyone's questions or trying to entertain, just having fun together. They wouldn't even need to be talking about Trek for it to be enjoyable!

    Huge thanks for this, one of the funniest / joyful things I've seen on youtube in ages and not just for the Trekkies, though context does help. Came here via a short Picard convention panel vid with Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan, Brent Spiner etc but my heart sank when I saw the length. Not any more, make it longer. I dont know if Brent ever did stand-up but he is a natural. Of course Jeri looks well, she is minus 300ish, the laughs, friendship and fun between them seems genuine and I guess thats part of what helps make ST continue with roles and characters reprised and revisited. If they hated each other, probably wouldn't happen. Have to say Brents cameo in Big Bang was so underwhelming I wasnt expecting this. They must have played him down for fear of upstaging the BB characters. I'd say Patrick and him must play off each other off screen. As for Levar, we didnt get Rainbow? but Roots was such a landmark series of a scale rarely to be matched, & so removed from Trek it says so much about his range. Nice to hear the full circle reference to William Shatner from Jeri, Boston Legal must have been a hoot.
    Laugh Loud and Proliferate. ;)

    I met Data (Brent) 6 times in passing at the Wells Fargo Bank in Larchmont Centre Los Angeles, California. He noticed me from previous passings I guess (I’m 6’7”tall, and hard to miss) and nodded to me. I gave him the ‘OK’ hand sign when passing him at the door. The unwritten bylaw of protocols pertaining to how to treat Hollywood Actors and Actresses is that you give them respect by not running up to them, screaming and acting like some old fashioned “Bobby Soxer”/Autograph Seeker/FanBoy-FanGirl/crazy person stalker, and give them some space and privacy. From what I’ve seen when briefly, he didn’t have to acknowledge my existence, being a total stranger. There are some Hollywood types that are ‘’Stuck Up’, aloof, full themselves, and are smug snotty elitists. I think he knew I wasn’t going to bother him, since I didn’t change my demeanor from the first two or three times we crossed paths. I think he’s a cool guy

How would you like it if everywhere you go, you may get unwanted, undesired, time consuming, embarrassing, over the top hero worshiping, gushing panting, bug eyed, delirious, geeky, drooling fan person is now in your face and arms breadth human body space-.These people want a memento, your clothing, your hair, a photo-selfie.... it never stops.... and I can happen to you all day and every day you go into public. These people get this type of reaction all the time. The larger the fan base, the more your privacy dwindles,and I’m sure it’s draining. One wants to be polite, protect ones fanbase, keeping your popularity numbers up way high, these are areas of concern I’m sure, but when people approach you constantly, continually, unrelenting....it can wreak your last nerve. They folks all over you fawning, asking for favors... I mean anything goes with these people. They’d seen you on the screen, and think they know you, they’re crowding your space, and they want something from you. Leave the actor alone, they have enough to deal with as it is.

      I mean honestly and seriously, "amazing" is a bit too profound of a word to describe the show as a whole.
      Certain aspects thereof truly are amazing for sure, but ultimately the show has been flawed.
      It breaks continuity, some scripts (1st season) were obviously hastened and/or multiple-times re-written jumble, the folks therein do not behave and act like the typical "enlightened" Star Trek "super"-people from 23rd century, and the atmosphere often does not feel like proper ST, but I can personally put up with it.
      It is still a pretty good, highly-above-average TV show. Overall, it's definitely better than the first two infamous seasons of TNG. And I am still able to re-watch even those and ENJOY them.

    STNG was the best TV series ever. I always thought Jeri Ryan should have been on STNG. When they bring it back and they really should,, Jeri should have a major role. One of the great things about the show was the chemistry among the actors. it is that subtle and difficult to describe quality that makes the viewer feel like they have just been able to eavesdrop on a real situation instead of just watching people at work. It also helps that they look like they are having loads of fun doing the show. At the end of most episodes, I was left with a positive, calm feeling, as though I had just seen something, fun and important. It was the "gold standard" of "enjoyable TV. I say "bring it back!" Somebody, please tell me some shows today that are fun, and enjoyable to watch. I liked the series "salvation,for many of the same reasons, except that they never really finished it as far as I know.
