Great video , I’m glad that you posted my dude also love the channel and your spitting facts. Like even when they have a variety of black women she always has to have trauma or be in distress or she can’t be a character in general. Like I get that everyone deals with problems and when done right you can highlight important issues that black women go though but why does it have to be the number one thing that she has to go through or she’ll just have no character at all. Whether it’s with love , work, friendship , etc . Like I’d love if we have character development , showing out vulnerability, us in our happy moments or just us being a human being and getting a break!!!! Us Black women DESERVE BETTER!!!!!!
Or black women are played as second fiddle or not a lasting love interest with a happy ending or has to always play a superhero or mother figure even tho we don’t know how she’s feeling and when we do it’s ignored
Yess, more black girl coming of age shows, and I think there is a lot of potential for more sitcoms featuring dark skinned black women that aren’t only about toxic relationships
And thank you! xx
@@TownofTawiah right that’ll be amazing fr fr
This is how i feel about that show insecure. I think many black women are into it because a black woman made it but I couldn’t get past season 4.
I think it would also be worth mentioning that many neurodivergent women struggle with these issues and tend to be lost and forgotten within this type of representation
I planned to make that a video topic itself ! x
@@TownofTawiah looking forward to that! :)
Now you just gave me more reasons to not like the show ‘Sex Education.’ I did not know that they made the dark skin Black women look “undesirable.” She looks perfect the way she is and I know it’s the writers/creators “vision” of the show, but it’s unacceptable. Dark skin Black women go through a lot, especially in Hollywood. We do not need more bullshit portrayals on the screen. Thank you for this great video. I am enjoying your new mic🎙👏🏾
Side note: Sex education has dramatically improved in Season 3 and is defo worth the watch right now ! Xx
Great Vid, The love Island point hit sooo heavy especially when you know social media will destroy those women and make them look like pretentious, needy and arrogant. It just makes me sick.
Thanks you! Yeah they did those girls dirty, it’s really sad because I can imagine that would’ve lowered their self esteem after leaving the villa
Please do the disposable black girlfriend trope!
I would love to blame the media but the reason they're so successful in portraying negative stereotypical concepts in the first place is because a large percent of the population are stupid by default, let's just leave it at that.. I think the writers fully intend whatever opinions you formed from these portrayals otherwise these tropes wouldn't have persisted, they know what the long term effects are. Let's say you decide to turn down said role, someone else would happily take it from you. It's a vicious cycle..
Yes I have a lot of reservations about giving birth in a hospital. It’s hard because I want the option of medical intervention but when that medical care is inherently sinister towards other people who look like me, it doesn’t really feel like the odds are stacked in my favor.
Have you ever considered getting a birth doula? There are some companies that are specifically focused on providing POC support and to be an advocate who can be there every step of the birthing process. And they typically have medical knowledge and can be an effective extra voice in your corner in case of medical emergencies. Hope this helps💗
hiiiii! i’m here from tiffany ferg’s “small channel shout out” and i’m SO glad i found you! keep up the great work!
Heyy! Welcome in 🤗 and thank you :)
I’ve been watching love island recently as an escape but what you said here sums up exactly what has be bugging me so much about the show. There’s such a clear Eurocentric beauty standard and they usually have one maaaybe two black women at a time amongst several women with blond hair and blue eyes and it’s so painful to watch as over and over again the men go for the white women because it’s just their “type” and see the black women go through a lot of pain because of it.
so nobody is going to talk about the outfit? smh 🙌 fire fit
Right 😍
@@chelsigoliath You’re next up. Your videos are fire. low-key wish you posted more .
Haha thank you 🥰✨
You should do a commentary on Lupin and Zero and the absence of black women - gonna binge your content!
Those are great suggestions thanks !
Every week ? This WHOLE month ? Akua grinding grinding 👀
Also your recommendations that are a positive representation of us is so true and they my favorites as well

Omg tysm for discussing this💖
I'm first, can't wait for this to drop!
Me too!!

Excellent video! Here's some engagement for algorithmic purposes
Thank you! 😌
I love love love this one. This type of education is defo what I need for when I write😁
Thanks sis, I’m glad :) Xx
Another high quality video 🙌🏾 You never miss!!
Thank you bro 😌🤍
ALSO LOVE THE *SELAH AND THE SPADES* SHOUT OUT I NEED IT TO BE A TV SHOW RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
Yesss
This was so interesting to watch, very well presented & explained!!! Subscribed xx
Thank youu 😘
I am new to your platform.
I really appreciate the exploration of the topics you present. It is so refreshing to hear them discussed in a way devoid of subjective emotionalism. Instead, you present your point of view, backed up by research. You express yourself in a very clear and dignified way. Your exposition is quite easy to digest and pleasing.
Great video as always!
Thank youu! 🥰
Black women need to stop going on these shows.
You’re glowinggg
Thank youuu
Thank you for this ☺️🙏🏾💚
💖
Just keep thinking how many of these tropes are diminishing reasonable trauma responses.
We all need to be empathetic of others. Especially marginalized.
Absolutely brilliant video, especially love the note on love island as there are so many issues with their treatment of women, particularly dark skinned women, on that show.
As an aside, sorry to be cheeky and ask but, would it be possible for you to add subtitles to some of your videos? I’ve a few hearing issues and I know some folks I want to send this too have hearing problems themselves also. No worries if you can’t!!
really interesting watch, good video!
Thank you! Xx
Like the video!
Thanks 🤍
This is great! Also where is your top from???😍
Thank youu 🤍🤍 (it’s from plt)
I’d love for you to watch Ruby on Good Girls, I love her character and she’s so refreshing compared to these popular images that Shonda Rhimes doles out.
Ruby was such a great example because even if she wasn’t ‘the black friend’ her character would still have a lot of relevance to the show. Love, love, loved her role
What did you think abt lolly adefope in Shrill? I think that was a pretty positive role for the most part. Great video btw
I haven’t watched Shrill yet, but looks like I can add this to my list and share my thoughts! And thank you :)
I love how in all of these examples black men are choosing non-black women. Like we cannot even count on them.
We really need to start being honest in this community because it's NOT just BM that do this colorism shit and I'm tired of it.
Sanaa Lathan played in disappearing acts that was struggle love.
This isna great video on expanding viewers understanding not just of what we see in media but what we don't see and encouraging us to think harder about why.
Thank you! 🥰
I couldn't agree more with this video, it made it hard to watch some of the episodes of scandal, HTAWM, I would skip some scenes. It made me feel someway like is this all we can represent....hmmm
Girl you are gorgeous
coming from you!! Thank you xx
ALOT of times it is other women competing with that women who cause...the struggle.
I like the points you were making but I think you need to give chewing gum a rewatch as you misstated some thing. Tracey is not seen as undesirable, in fact her boyfriend connor was obsessed with her. There are plenty of other shows that you could use as an example, the chewing gum example didn’t really fit with the things you were saying in the video.
I agree and I actually think Chewing Gum is a great show.
I’ve only seen a few clips but it looks awkward in a positive way
@@DoraWinifred it totally is! Which is why I’m confused as to why she chose it for this topic.
👍👍
☺️
For the algorithm
🤍🤍🤍
Zwart pete has nothing to do with american minstrel shows.
OMG he was their therapist?!? I’m appalled. Talk about abuse of power.
Can you stop putting biracial along with black women on youtube thumbnail.they are half white not fully black.thank you.
There's relevancy. The jezebel trope is closely related to the "tragic mulatto", which is about a sexual tremptress that was often mixed (see the "one drop rule" of determining blackness/nnon-whiteness) and always had a destructive demise. Even know mixed women are being chosen as the representative of black women even if they are their own entity. Therefore there is still reason to consider their portrayals as "black women" within media.
@@stepahead5944 no.thanx for commenting
Erm biracial people can identify as black too? Being black is based on inclusivity since being white and its associated privileges is based on exclusivity ie keeping certain groups people oppressed and marginalised. Therefore 'black' can come in the form of multiple shades.
@@namjoonbug9044 Black women can’t identify as biracial. Biracials can identify when it benefits them. There should be a distinction. Having 1 white parent and 2 white grandparents has a different impact than have 2 black parents and 4 black grandparents. I’m glad that we (Black women with 2 black parents) are gatekeeping who gets to call themselves Black. It’s not about shades, it’s about ancestry.
I understand the importance of differentiating because they are two separate experiences that have some shared experiences but this is about films and characters and mixed actresses are cast to tell the stories of black women in this context. I have a video on colourism discussing the issue with that but it doesn’t change from the fact that in Hollywood they are a ‘black’ character.
Want to find love? Take that damn weave out!
and who are you referring to?
