I've had my eye on this system for quite some time, and now your review has convinced me. I'm getting this console. It plays FX games and all the stuff that I want, so this is a good option for me.
The only thing missing here is covering the sound of the system a bit more. Glad you're compared up close to the visuals of this and the Classic Edition. Keep up the good work.
would have been better to hear the sound comparison, and show the comparison vs real nes and snes... no reviewer are better judge than the viewer itself...
eh there are plenty of hardware emulation boxes out there, this ones actually kinda pricey and they fucked up the sound emulation for the NES. Though the really good ones like the AVS and NT Mini are super expensive.
How is the SOUND on the NES part? Most NES-on-a-chip clone systems have swapped duty cycles on the square wave channels, due to a mistake made long ago when the bootleggers reverse-engineered the original Famicom hardware, and the swapped duty cycle bug has persisted to this day. This swaps the "ooh" and "ah" type sounds on the square wave channels, and that's pretty much a deal breaker for me. The other thing to check is the sound quality of games that use the DMC channel, mainly Sunsoft games like Gremlins 2, NES-on-a-chip clone systems often have audio problems with that game. This review did not include any NES audio whatsoever.
I just found nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2017/10/nes-clones-reversed-duty-cycles-why-you.html It claims that the system does have reversed duty cycles.
The video isn't sponsored dumb ass. It's literally illegal to be paid to sponsor something without informing the audience it's sponsored content on youtube. Guys like Rerez get sent a bunch of free shit from companies in hopes that he chooses to review it. That's how literally every review channel with a decent following gets review units. That's not "getting paid".
would have been better to hear the sound comparison, and show the comparison vs real nes and snes... no reviewer are better judge than the viewer itself...
Kinda sad it doesn't play the multigame cartridges, these were the only source of game in Eastern Europe and Russia. I never owned an original Nintendo cartridge in my life, but that didn't matter because back then no one knew we were playing pirated games on bootleg consoles. Hell, some of these pirates had actual brands and the most popular were regarded as "original" - in Poland the brand was called "Pegasus", in Russia it was called "Dendy". A youtuber called Kinaman88 has done an excellent video about Dendy and how gaming in Russia looked like in the early 90s.
Im glad you mentioned the visual glitches. Im totally ok with that knowing i am playing not emulating the game and playing the real thing. Thank you. Your videos are great! Btw i love stunt race fx. I grew up on that lol. Did you notice slow down when you played snes contra?
Damn, Dude... You just sold this system to THIS guy right here. Awesome video. I'm afraid that if I watch more videos, I'm gonna be broke buying all the things that YOU recommend. Keep up the AMAZING work, Boss.
I will .probably buy this on your recommendation. I have been looking for a retro console and have heard some negatives about the Retron 5, so this looks like something I would be interested in. Also love the clone bashing videos!
Hey Shane, I noticed that at no point in this video did you mention whether or not this system is FPGA. While your conclusion that it’s better than the emulation of a Retron 5 seems fair, it also sounds to me like it’s doing WHAT a Retron does, just at a higher level. To confirm this I checked around for other reviews and found out the NES portion doesn’t work with homebrew NES carts or the EverDrive N8 Pro, while I know from experience that both DO work in an Analogue NT Mini Noir. So this is a half step up from similar products, at an attractive price point, but it’s still an emulator box at the end of the day.
Question: Is the Classiq N HD have the same qualities as the classiq 2 ? I own two original super Nes consoles and two supa boy handheld snes consoles I am just looking for a better way to play just my NES cartridges so is the Classiq N HD a good option? thanks...!!
It looks good, i like the glitching, did you try the super gameboy. Also stunt race fx is a good game its one of the first games i sought out when i got my classic collection going
You're wrong about not to be able to use the light gun for both game systems on the retro classic hd system, since it also does have composite out and aslong it supports the light signal pin, games such as duck hunt & yoshi safari etc,, should work and playeble on the system aslong you use a crt tv!!
I got it for $40 last year and aside from having to turn the volume up to hear the music, its great. Got Joe and Mac Collection for SNES that has Cave Ninjas, Joe and Mac , and Joe and Mac 2. Sounds exactly like I remembered and being able to use a wireless SNES controller from Retrobit is awesome. I had clone consoles in the past though those only connected via the yellow, red and white audio cables. Being able to do HDMI for modern smart tvs is great.
half of his vids are great topics and reviews but the other half are not worth clicking on. this inconsistency is why he doesnt get enough subscribers. he has Rerez 2 channel, he should use it more heavily and keep only the best of the best for his main channel.
7:38 - You do realize this system has AV output right? So of course you can still use a Super NES SuperScope or an NES Zapper on games that support it, you just had to play it on a CRT TV.
This sounds like the Retro-Duo that came out some ten years ago. Man, I loved that system. If it also had a Genesis port, I’d snatch one up in an instant. Still, very tempted.
I still wish we could see more SNES+Genesis clones. Feel free to give me crap for this but the NES slot is sometimes wasted since most of the truly great NES games are way too expensive. Meanwhile, SNES and Genesis are much more respectably priced, and the Genesis lacks many good clones. The Super Retro trio is nice, but I feel like making one without the NES slot would shave down costs across the board.
It currently does NOT play NES Everdrive SD carts. It does work with SNES flash carts. Their support team Emailed me back & said they plan to attempt to add NES SD cart functionally in the future but the initial runs will not have it. [Posted 11/20/17]
Can it output Composite Video/Audio and HDMI at the same time??? If it can, will be a nice feature for retro-streamers so they can play on their CRT and stream via HDMI for better quality.
Beastworm looks like it it has the RCA connectors on the back. Hopefully they included compatibility with the lake gun. I know the Retron HD supports it, hello and gamerz Tek one does not even though it having the composite AV outputs.
If a system play Super Nintendo games it'll play Super famicom as well, even the original Super Nintendo could do it if you removed the plastic bits in the cartridge slot so the Japanese cart would fit
The 16:9 optiin is for 4:3 screens most likely, it will will squish the wide screen image down, so flick it to 16:9 to scretch it back out, tada, fixed
I noticed that there are composite outputs on the back, which should allow it to work with many CRTs and thus games that use light guns. Did you try that?
would have been better to hear the sound comparison, and show the comparison vs real nes and snes... no reviewer are better judge than the viewer itself...
my family has an 06 caravan with a dvd player in it, said player has the standard 3 RCA ports in it so a system like this would be a great thing on those long trips. especially since not only it can play snes and nes games but also because it runs off the same power that would normally be used to charge our cell phones. i definitely need to look into this more.
This is just a clone system like the RetroN 2. In fact, I'll compare them: -Classiq 2 and RetroN 2 both have the same functionality, which is to play NES and SNES titles. -Both succeed at this task. -Classiq 2, from what I can gather from the comments section below, has poor audio quality for the NES (hey, I said it succeeds at *playing* NES games, I didn't say it did it well). -Classiq 2 has an aspect-ration switch and HDMI output, and the RetroN 2 has S-Video output. -Classiq 2 costs $70.00, while the RetroN 2 costs $50.00 (both prices referenced from their respective websites). I don't know about you, but I'd rather play games on AV-output for $50 than play games with bells and whistles for $70.
What about something ROB used? Like Gyromite or Stack Up? Would a modern TV be able to send the signal to rob to move since it's the original hardware would it HAVE to be a CRTV? Im asking because I have ROB and Gyromite but my pockets aren't deep enough for an NES
Are NES Mini and SNES Mini both using software emulation while the Classiq II uses hardware emulation? I'm guessing the Classiq II looks better than the original consoles because it has HDMI and composite out (just like the R&@#£%$@£ P%!) would have been worth comparing the Classiq II's composite out with a console on an HDMI TV... and if things like light guns worked on the Classiq II connected via composite out to a CRT.
Is the system heavy? I hated how the Super Retro Trio was so light. Whenever I changed the cartridge I had to hold the system cause it was so light & cheap it would just lift the system.
I have a question...will Famicom/Super Famicom games? I just got a copy of Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden as a free extra while getting the manga version of Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return and I wanted to know if you could play those games on there.
I thought blowing on the cards worked mostly due to the small amount of moisture to help with conductivity? Rather than removing dust... Which is the same thing that can break them causing corrosion
20 years ago I had a Dreamcast and NESter dc burned to cd. Basically every rom game for all consoles. I thought I was the shizz. But glad to see that it’s still a cool thing! Nice vid. Just got a classiq2 for 25$ at my local thrift.
The super scope & nes zapper should work on the classiq 2 aslong is has the essential light pins for it and aslong you use a crt tv trough video out of the system off course.
Update - you can play lightgun n Superscope n Zapper games if you hook this console to any older CRT Television using the AV outputs 🟡🔴⚪ the yellow red n white plugs 👍 Lethal Enforcers n Justifier Gun work like a dream , , let's be honest most of our grandparents have a CRT Television somewhere 😸😂🤪👍👍
Are you going to review the Analogue Nt Mini and Super Nt at some point? I'd like to hear your opinion on them and if you think the 450$ price tag is justified.
@Rerez I am curious where you sourced the claims made in this video. Did OldSkool tell you that this system is not using emulation?? I cannot find anything on their site making this claim. A $70 clone system is absolutely using software emulation. You mentioned that it has a SoC which means it would be using an off-the-shelf architecture and instruction set. Both the NES and SNES use proprietary custom engineered chips. The only way to replicate the original hardware is to reverse engineer the chips and program an FPGA (expensive) or fabricate your own replication (very, very expensive - especially in small batches). I’m not sure if this was just assumption based on your play experience. For example, the reason you might see graphical glitches with software emulation is because the data is corrupted from a dirty read. You’re simply playing a “bad dump”. That is not evidence of software emulation or not. I’m legitimately curious if this is just a misunderstanding or if something sketchy is going on with the manufacturer. Would love to see the internals.
Loved the SNES 2 of each. You always knew which were which without having to glance down. Which was nice because those grayish purple buttons were ugly af and no one wanted to look at them lol
This seems really cool, if only I had a collection of SNES carts (instead of just ROMS). But how is this not emulation? Isn't emulation when the original hardware is not used but simulated? And isn't that what this is doing? (Albeit very very well)
i've seen the static, my ninja gaiden cart is really dirty and it takes tons of scrubbing to fix, also for only $70 I probably will buy one of these, my retron 2 doesn't look great
Quantum Impulse NES Everdrive will not work currently. SD2SNES will. I reached out to their support. They plan/hope to add NES SD cart support down the road to new batches.
it all comes down to price, if this thing is the same price as the snes classic or more, then its not even worth it, because not only would you be paying $80 for the console, but you'd also have to pay $20+ for each of the games you want for your library, where you can get the snes classic which already has a decent amount of good games on it for that $80 price tag
Ssj Ichigo Not necessarily again emulation is never 1:1 as running it in the actual hardware as games run slower or faster trying to compensate. And if money is a problem pick up an everdrive and you not limited to the selection the classic only offers.
Also, I think the intended audience for somethign like this someone who already has a software collection but their original consoles either no longer work or can't be connected to any TV in their house.
and this is where you get one of two replies... [1] Hello my brother, I have come to share the Good News! Did you know that you can hack the SNES Mini? [2] Hello friend, I have come to share the Good News! Have you been told of the Raspberry Pi?
1: I figured snes mini was hackable, since the original nes mini was, it would've only been a matter of time for the snes 2: raspberry pi requires extra setup from what I understand, and some people might not know how
I've had my eye on this system for quite some time, and now your review has convinced me. I'm getting this console. It plays FX games and all the stuff that I want, so this is a good option for me.
The only thing missing here is covering the sound of the system a bit more. Glad you're compared up close to the visuals of this and the Classic Edition. Keep up the good work.
Cool... Will it work with the Game genie?
probably not...
Probably, but what about super game boy?
@M Livehd it’s original hardware? How?
It’s always a good day when Rerez uploads.
Optimistica1 yeaaaah!!!
Edit. Releases an actual video
would have been better to hear the sound comparison, and show the comparison vs real nes and snes...
no reviewer are better judge than the viewer itself...
+MashedPlasher Except when he makes a videos that sucks *COUGH* Will 2018 Kill The Switch *COUGH* Yeah I like him but OH MY GOD he can be so arrogant.
You misspelled great
The FX chip working on this is such a huge advantage over every other retro console.
eh there are plenty of hardware emulation boxes out there, this ones actually kinda pricey and they fucked up the sound emulation for the NES. Though the really good ones like the AVS and NT Mini are super expensive.
the super FX compatibility is nice, but you can already emulate SFX games pretty flawlessly if you use higan on a mac or PC.
How is the SOUND on the NES part? This review did not include any NES audio whatsoever.
The most popular game that uses DMC samples is Super Mario Bros. 3. That's how they got the drums in that game, especially in the airship theme.
I just found nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/2017/10/nes-clones-reversed-duty-cycles-why-you.html
It claims that the system does have reversed duty cycles.
dont expect paid reviews from youtubers talking about sound on clone systems because they are garbage

This channel does not get enough views and love.
Awkward Crafty true
I always feel like this channel has 500k subscribers, but he’s only a little bit above 100k subscribers, he definitely deserves more subs.
Thats partly because for a while he didnt upload...
half of his vids are great topics and reviews but the other half are not worth clicking on. this inconsistency is why he doesnt get enough subscribers. he has Rerez 2 channel, he should use it more heavily and keep only the best of the best for his main channel.
MEDIA tor His main channel came back from a >3 month hiatus so...
This console looks awsome! I like that it's got a hdmi port! Great video 😀👍
This is probably my favorite gaming channel
I'm surprised that no 3rd party company has made a new lightgun for these newer tv's that works like the Wii Remote.
@@NintendoDude888 but they use remote anyways
Doesn't matter. If you have an old CRT, which are dirt cheap nowadays, you're good. Just use the composite ports.
Well, what is the input latency? Is it instant like the original consoles or added like the retron 5?
You rock, REREZ.
Thank you as always!
7:38 - You do realize this system has AV output right? So of course you can still use a Super NES SuperScope or an NES Zapper on games that support it, you just had to play it on a CRT TV.
Finally, a new video (it’s been a while) can’t wait for the next plug and play you’ll review
I was debating between this and the Retron 2 HD. I might have just been sold on this.
This sounds like the Retro-Duo that came out some ten years ago. Man, I loved that system. If it also had a Genesis port, I’d snatch one up in an instant. Still, very tempted.
Loren Helgeson well maybe in the future they’ll probably make a classiq 3
I own an older Retron that plays Snes and Nes but it plays all cartridges, it has the old school ports inside. The system looks like a Snes basically
its cool when you review new retro stuff :) thank you
I still wish we could see more SNES+Genesis clones. Feel free to give me crap for this but the NES slot is sometimes wasted since most of the truly great NES games are way too expensive. Meanwhile, SNES and Genesis are much more respectably priced, and the Genesis lacks many good clones. The Super Retro trio is nice, but I feel like making one without the NES slot would shave down costs across the board.
rerez is back yeet
Hey so does this console actually read the cartridges like you say? Not emulation? Also would you recommend this console over the Hyperkin Retron 2?
I love how this is one video where he doesn’t yell or scream
Well its not part of the Worst Ever or Just Bad Games series either to be fair.
Hey, this is the exact model of Classiq II HD I got today for my birthday!
But does it have the same problem that 98% of other NES clone systems have with shitty audio?
I imagine if audio was bad he likely would've mentioned it.
It currently does NOT play NES Everdrive SD carts. It does work with SNES flash carts. Their support team Emailed me back & said they plan to attempt to add NES SD cart functionally in the future but the initial runs will not have it. [Posted 11/20/17]

Beastworm looks like it it has the RCA connectors on the back. Hopefully they included compatibility with the lake gun. I know the Retron HD supports it, hello and gamerz Tek one does not even though it having the composite AV outputs.
That's a good idea Beastworm. I actually did that with a VHS player once using a Composite on one TV, and an RF connection on another.
Looks cool! Sounds like it doesn't do Famicom or Super Famicom, though?
No famicom is different pin count you need like a 10$ converter
If a system play Super Nintendo games it'll play Super famicom as well, even the original Super Nintendo could do it if you removed the plastic bits in the cartridge slot so the Japanese cart would fit
My nes converter for my old 31 in 1 multicart doesn't quite fit in the classiq 2 for some reason
I got the console a little while ago and i love it!
would have been better to hear the sound comparison, and show the comparison vs real nes and snes...
no reviewer are better judge than the viewer itself...
Enjoyed the video! Might have to pick up a Classiq 2 Hd
my family has an 06 caravan with a dvd player in it, said player has the standard 3 RCA ports in it so a system like this would be a great thing on those long trips. especially since not only it can play snes and nes games but also because it runs off the same power that would normally be used to charge our cell phones. i definitely need to look into this more.
As if we could actually get our hands on a NES or SNES Classic, haha.
When though? Cause you aren't gonna find any at the time this video was made.
Got my snes classic bout 2 weeks ago from walmart there were 4 at like 2 am came back round 11pm all were gone
This is just a clone system like the RetroN 2. In fact, I'll compare them:
-Classiq 2 and RetroN 2 both have the same functionality, which is to play NES and SNES titles.
Im asking because I have ROB and Gyromite but my pockets aren't deep enough for an NES
i like the fact all the controleurs are on the front and not the side
this race game do you play with the SD2SNES or an original cartridge? (the sd2snes now support those 3d games??)
We played that with a real cartridge. It was important for us to test out Super FX chips games to see if they worked at all.
Did you do any testing of custom chips, particularly the VRC6 chip used by Konami?
I've been having some big problems with my classiq 2. On several games, like super ghouls and ghosts, certain bosses will be invisible. So frustrating
Do both cartridge ports operate Game Genie, also do they have the pin-perfect technology?
Will it work with third-party adapter, s and games
What is the game at 0:25 of the video with the cop car chasing the black car?
Are NES Mini and SNES Mini both using software emulation while the Classiq II uses hardware emulation?
I'm guessing the Classiq II looks better than the original consoles because it has HDMI and composite out (just like the R&@#£%$@£ P%!) would have been worth comparing the Classiq II's composite out with a console on an HDMI TV... and if things like light guns worked on the Classiq II connected via composite out to a CRT.
Thanks for the review it got me excited... unfortunately Old Skool doesn't sell internationally.
We will have the system listed on Ebay upon release you can purchase it there and it will ship internationally
DUDE, i wanna get into retro gaming but i have a good ol´crt tv ,the question is : do you recomend it to me having a CRT tv??
Does the msu1 chip works on the sd2snes??? Does the sd2snes work?
Great video
presented very well. 🤘🤘🤘 from which System was elevator action ??
You got jondas man? Great review man.
Yo, you got thoughts on the Sega Mega Drive Flashback HD? That Atgames emulation box that is apparently... _OK?_
ty so much you saved us $60 the game came up with not compatible but all we had to do was change the button on the bottom
I’m buying the composite version next month
Is the system heavy? I hated how the Super Retro Trio was so light. Whenever I changed the cartridge I had to hold the system cause it was so light & cheap it would just lift the system.
Damn, the first thing I noticed this episode is the Serious Sam logo on your back wall
It has component. If I connect it to component, and use a CRT, will the super scope work?
I have a question...will Famicom/Super Famicom games?
I just got a copy of Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden as a free extra while getting the manga version of Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return and I wanted to know if you could play those games on there.
I thought blowing on the cards worked mostly due to the small amount of moisture to help with conductivity? Rather than removing dust... Which is the same thing that can break them causing corrosion
I was told this in the 90s by a Funcoland employee I believe. Could be a combination.
Man, this thing looks nice
Can this thing play those handful of NES games that other Famiclones can't? Like Castlevania 3
yes
20 years ago I had a Dreamcast and NESter dc burned to cd. Basically every rom game for all consoles. I thought I was the shizz. But glad to see that it’s still a cool thing! Nice vid. Just got a classiq2 for 25$ at my local thrift.
The super scope & nes zapper should work on the classiq 2 aslong is has the essential light pins for it and aslong you use a crt tv trough video out of the system off course.
what games is he playing? i'm curious what that game with the bubble people is called.
Just subscribed, love the content, 16 to 32 bit video game is King
When I get a video game collection this is going to be the 1st system I will get
Wouldn’t the composite output to a crt from this console support the Zapper and the Super Scope?
No input lag like when you play the real thing on a modern TV?
Actually you can play games that use the Zapper, or Super Scope on the Classiq 2 and Retron 5, you just need CRT monitor that supports HDMI.
No, you don't, it's got composite out.
And HDMI wouldn't work anyway.

Does the super scope/nes zaper work with the av out of this system (on a CRT ofcourse)
Where can I purchase a clzssiq 2 from and how much are they
Do the light gun games still work on a crt?
Thanks rerez will order one for my son
Retrobit has one like this that I have, the retro duo
Concave buttons >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> convex buttons.
Damn right, buddy. That goes for arcades too!
Loved the SNES 2 of each. You always knew which were which without having to glance down. Which was nice because those grayish purple buttons were ugly af and no one wanted to look at them lol
you enjoy blisters?
Concave beats convex anyday
I'm having problems with the sound . I can't hear anything. Any ideas?
This seems really cool, if only I had a collection of SNES carts (instead of just ROMS).
But how is this not emulation? Isn't emulation when the original hardware is not used but simulated? And isn't that what this is doing? (Albeit very very well)
Is there a comparable machine for Sega games?
i've seen the static, my ninja gaiden cart is really dirty and it takes tons of scrubbing to fix, also for only $70 I probably will buy one of these, my retron 2 doesn't look great
So essentially an everdrive for SNES or NES would work? Since it's the actual hardware not software emulation
Quantum Impulse NES Everdrive will not work currently. SD2SNES will. I reached out to their support. They plan/hope to add NES SD cart support down the road to new batches.
What was the game at 5:10 with the guys shooting each other and the elevator?
L7Sfilms Elevator Action on NES.
Terrance Truth Thanks!
Elevator Action for the NES
it all comes down to price, if this thing is the same price as the snes classic or more, then its not even worth it, because not only would you be paying $80 for the console, but you'd also have to pay $20+ for each of the games you want for your library, where you can get the snes classic which already has a decent amount of good games on it for that $80 price tag
Ssj Ichigo Not necessarily again emulation is never 1:1 as running it in the actual hardware as games run slower or faster trying to compensate. And if money is a problem pick up an everdrive and you not limited to the selection the classic only offers.
Also, I think the intended audience for somethign like this someone who already has a software collection but their original consoles either no longer work or can't be connected to any TV in their house.
....until you want a game that's not already in the Classics collection
and this is where you get one of two replies...
[1] Hello my brother, I have come to share the Good News! Did you know that you can hack the SNES Mini?
[2] Hello friend, I have come to share the Good News! Have you been told of the Raspberry Pi?
1: I figured snes mini was hackable, since the original nes mini was, it would've only been a matter of time for the snes
2: raspberry pi requires extra setup from what I understand, and some people might not know how
2:37 what nickname should we give this one.... ooh! I know, the "Toaster."
Oclone 120 that’s already reserved for the nintoaster
So if I bought a multicart from Alibaba this system will run it?
