    Alex motivated me a lot.
I'm not in business but music. I been DJing since 2007 and actually became successful making it my work. But during COVID I lost everything even my house my wife and child I even had to sell my music studio to buy food. I had nothing to fall back on because I dropped out of school to follow my dream in music. I ended up even living in my my old house at my mom at 29 years old. I had no drive to start because I couldn't even afford the equipment to make music or fix my DJ playlists.
I had so much debt that I couldn't even have a normal job because the government would just take straight from my salary through court. I was so depressed. After watching a lot of Alex's videos I decided to quit everything I was doing and focus on music again even though I had nothing I didn't even have a laptop to fix music.
I started just like I did when I was 16 making my playlists in internet cafes and reaching out to clubs and bars. Now 4 months later I got 2 regular gigs in some of the best clubs around here and I already have requests to fly over to another country for DJ residency.
I had not even a dollar to my name and now I can buy all the equipment I need!!! And I got a very nice appartment. Thanks Alex. I needed to hear your stuff badly.

This episode reinforced to me a principle that I NEVER forgot once I came upon it some years ago "LEARN TO RECYCLE YOUR PAINS". We are taught to see pain as such a negative emotion but when recycled correctly it can become the most positive progressive fuel to our personal evolution. Thank you to Alex Hormozi for reminding me of this today. Great dialogue between you both. Be Elite Today People!!!

That last part from Alex is really noteworthy. To realise you've been trying to win at someone else's game, rather than your own. To redefine what the game or success means to you.

For me visualisation plays a huge part - I use mediation and visualisation techniques to produce two images in my mind:
    1) The person I will become if I repeatedly DO this action
    2) The person I will become if I repeatedly DON'T DO this action
Once I have visualised these 2 outcomes it's abundantly clear which choice I have to make, and removes the motivation component of it and replaces it with pure logic
I made videos exploring these topics which I think you'll enjoy if this mental framework resonates with you

For anyone trying to live up to their parent's expectations, imagine your life for the next 10+ years just trying to maintain their approval. And how exhausting and squandered your life will be. That should be the fuel for turning your life around.

@@rhondabenson2629 Yeah that's a really tough situation. I'm in a similar boat rn so I can empathize. Parents are in their 50s and I'm the breadwinner at 24. Every family dynamic is different, but for me personally, I know I need to emotionally disconnect more from my parents bc I don't want my life to revolve around theirs. As for what happens when my parents get senile, I don't have a good answer for that. I've been asking myself that question for years now, what do I do when my parents get old, and the default has always been, I'll look after them, but as I get older and think more about what I want, I feel their dependence on me restricting my options.
Edit: I think at the very least, if you're the one making the money, you shouldn't have to listen to what they say(what to eat, who to marry, what religion/lifestyle/life choices to choose, etc).

@@JohnJohnCrusher My parents are far from perfect, but I'm not judging them for it. They're just ppl at the end of the day. If I hold myself to these parental expectations, I'm never going to be satisfied with them. But there are just things I want for myself and the reality is that I can't achieve them if I limit myself to making them happy. That's why I have to disconnect.
Edit: I'm far from an alex hormozi fan, I just agree with him on this one thing.

Interesting take on things. I like how negative visualization can be used as a motivator for what you don't want (magnetic repellent). It can be used in conjunction with positive visualization (magnetic attraction). The one thing that is common for all of us is self image (images based on our interpretations of the outer world and who we are in relation, or defining oneself and walking their own path). We act out what we believe to be true about ourselves, and most will struggle trying to repair themselves, when all they need is to alter or create a new self image. Real change happens when we change our self image. Self image psychology is that important. Read PsychoCybernetics and you'll understand.

It's not your parents job to believe in you. If they weren't able to achieve as much as you, it's because they don't see it being possible, which is their reality. Him not believing in you, may have actually helped you achieve your dream.

You’re absolutely right. All that positive visualization crap is absurd. The only thing you need to “visualize” is this time next year if you don’t take some kind of action.
    PS:
Your Dad wasn’t really a prick. People like that are just not explorers. They cultivate stoic perseverance rather then courage. My father was the same in terms of the way he lived his own life but regarding how he interacted with me he pretty much didn’t. Personally I’d have preferred an adversarial relationship than virtually none at all. I really don’t know who the hell he was. The most positive example he set for me was his stoic misery as a high school teacher. Consequently I was never seduced by that horse shit factory called academia and was entrepreneurial from the git go. Unfortunately I never “succeeded”
In the financial sense but I did succeed in living most of my life on my feet instead of on my knees like my cowardly father.

You strike me as possibly a young fellow either currently in college or recently graduated. There’s no such thing as a “resolved” anything friend. Life flows. You ride it and navigate it as you can. You simply accept, forgive, and move on doing the best you can to live as painless and satisfying a life as you can and pursue a harmonious relationship with the realities of your existence as a unique human being. Ultimately we all simply die and that is part of the acceptance of the facts of our existence.
