      Are you sure bout the rat thing? I've heard it, but don't recall the details. But I would think, that the cat alone results in max pull, bcz fear over rules desire. I have a hard time imagining an unconsious mouse mind saying "Dang, I'm scared - and I'm hungry" at the same time. I expect cheese or not the cat pull motivation would be the same. Am I wrong?

    1. Superiority complex (I’m better than everyone and I deserve more).
    2. Massive insecurity and the fear that I’ll never be enough.
    3. Impulse control.
    Essentially, find that one thing that wakes you up in the morning and focus all your energy on that. It’s not enough to just pursue one thing, you also need to ignore every other thing in choosing that one thing.

    what a gem, really profound. this is how i look at it:
    i admire the feats, not the people behind it. the people will always let you down because they are as flawed and limited as you are (broadly speaking). that is why you should not seek for idols, you should seek for inspiration in great achievements, they are what really matter, the people are just vessels for their realization, and usually its usually a lottery game so to speak (right place, right time. or wrong depends on your perspective)

    Brilliant clip. As a society, we're mostly ascribing value to external achievements. We are not ascribing much value to the other two value realms: the internal, and the moral. An actual ideal way of being has all three value realms working in harmony and balance with one another. That's what you guys touched on (at least the harmony of internal and external) in the last portion of the video.

    • @501Labs
      @501Labs Рік тому +3

      I think the point of the clip was that everyone doesn't want nor need that balance in order to be happy and fulfilled. There's people who are perfectly happy and fulfilled maximizing one while neglecting the other two entirely. These are the people at the "Top". You can't be at the "top" of you're "balanced". Balanced means "center" which boils down to being at the middle or average. I agree There's not many Balanced people in the world... but those people aren't unbalanced because they're optimizing one thing ... they're unbalanced because they're entirely unaware that a state of balance exists. People like Alex are fullt aware of the state of balance ... but his mind doesn't work like most peoples minds. His fullfilment and happiness comes from being entirely unbalanced and optimizing on one thing ... which is work. Anyone looking in who does not share his values will see him as unfulfilled... but he doesn't see it that way ... and at that point it really comes down to wether you care more about society's opinion on your state of happiness... or what you really feel inside... He has chosen the latter.

    • @everything...interesting
      @everything...interesting Рік тому +1

      @@501Labs I think there's a lot of truth to what you said. But you also miss part of my point. If he's actually doing what he's doing based on what's authentically inside, then that is harmonizing with the internal realm. There's nothing wrong with that. That's how you ought to be. Which is harmonizing with the moral realm. The question, though, becomes, "is he actually doing what he wants based on a genuine internal drive? Or is it based on an externally sourced drive (i.e., ego, other peoples' opinions of him, status, etc.)?" If it's the latter, that is actually unhealthy, and will lead to a problematic place. His soul will not be heading in the right direction.

    • @everything...interesting
      @everything...interesting Рік тому +1

      @@501Labs also, your supposition about balanced meaning middle or average is not necessarily true. It can be that way. But it doesn't have to be. Think of it like this. You can place between 0 and 10 weights on each of three different categories (the internal, the external, and the moral). If you have 1 weight on each, then you're "balanced." And if you have 10 weights on each, then you're also balanced. Now, in the first, you might have equal amounts in each realm; but you also suck at all three realms. In the latter, you are maximized on all three realms, and are balanced. That's why it's more than just "balance." That's part of it. But I actually said balance and harmony. Which gets you closer to the reality. But it's really more complex than just one or two words can depict. You need to have an understanding of the whole system (i.e, Reality). But yeah, if you're 10 on external, and 2 on internal, and 1 on moral, you might achieve a lot in the external realm. But that doesn't mean your soul will actually end up in a good place. There are countless stories of people like this who end up killing themselves when they're "at the top." If you're 10 on external, and 10 on internal, and 1 on moral. That's more or less something like the Anti-Christ (I'm not religious). There are legitimate questions whether that particular balance is really attainable. But it might be. And it would be a scary person. Basically a psychopath. In that case, their "judgment" would be left to God / the Universe. They would achieve what they want on this Earth at a high level, but it would be either amoral or immoral (probably the latter - amoral would probably be higher than a 1 on that dimension).

    I like Alex because he is blunt and honest,no sugarcoating. Chris you're asking how to deal with that cognitive dissonance of "negative" traits common in successful people. It's simple. Stop giving the terms "performers" and "high achievers" which are plaguing so many podcast positive meaning. It's just neutral, another aim in life ,no better or worse compared to no-achievers who just want to raise family. And if you go extreme in anything,if you get a lot, you have to pay the the price,so you have to lose a lot.Somehow. It's physics,thermodynamics, balance,laws of the universe. Survival and family is only meaningful thing after all because it's hardwired, all the other s1it is human mind creation because we are not busy surviving as our water comes by tubes and food is somehow created and delivered to us so we are bored and constantly creating new religions like productivity,...So we should really ask hard questions and be honest about it. Am I driven by feeling I'm not enough? if yes am I pursuing right goal and don't I live in some story I created for myself where achievement will supposedly make me feel good about myself? I'm not saying it's bad to pursue such goals but I don't like that success,performance,achievement = good thing equation,it's much more complicated.Clarity and honesty towards myself without sugarcoating and stories gives me peace and power to say "ok I'm driven by "miserable" traits. so what ,that's my way,my engine ,let's do it, I'm curious what price I will have to pay if I will not change that". Also I think that what is worth of exploring is that "miserable" traits being negative is questionable 🙂 anxiety is what allowed our species to survive, feeling not enough and effort to impress others is our hardwired social instinct cause we need our peers to survive. So it's our heratage and we need them. So why not to be driven by them? 😁

    I've heard it said, don't meet your heroes. I never understood that until I met mine. Singularity of focus and hard work is the main way to become successful at something but unfortunately, those are revered are actually obsessive compulsive at what they do. We "lesser" people need to remember that obsessive compulsiveness is a disorder. I met the widow of another one of my heroes. In his field, he is one of the most respected in the world. She was extremely respectful of him but she shared a lot because I wanted to understand the business side of things as I want to pursue this same passion.
    I found out, he was never there when he was there. He was so compulsive about his passions, he had to file bankruptcy twice because he wasn't good at the business side of things but at his known creative side. He neglected relationships with his wife and children. He wasn't a bad person mind you, everyone loved him, yet, for what he became known and idolized for in one area, meant that he was a sluggard others. I realized I would never be as good as him in the one area because I will never give up my time with my wife and kids and I'm fine with that.

Politicians that don't have a personal life and who's hobbies are all for show, every breath and every thought is conjured to project the proper image to maximize power and control. michael jordan isnt happy. his induction speech into the hall of fame is an example of this. hes not really thanking people, hes proving to people who didnt believe in him that he succeeded. he doesnt so much thank people as say, they added fuel to the fire. he brought the guy who made the highschool team instead of him to his induction and proceeds to say he still sucks at basketball. a huge middle finger. dean smith didnt put him on the sports illustrated cover, but he deserved to be and hes still bitter about it. he does nothing but dog on people.

      That's why he is who he is and that's why we're still talking about Last Dance three years later. He's not normal and he doesn't want to or need to be. His happiness comes from winning and success. He still wants it all at 60 even though every single basketball authority recognizes him as the best ever. He doesn't just want to beat you one on one, he wants to do it in pool, table tennis, cards. It's incomprehensible to us normal people. He performed on the biggest stage when billions were watching and always delivered, hitting game winning shots from the time he was 18 years of age. All alphas have big egos, and his is the biggest one in the world. You can't be humble and perform at that level, with that amount of pressure. It's a war out there and the opponent wants to chop your head off and humiliate you in front of everyone on live TV.
