  • Ousted from a successful career as a chief engineer at Ferrari, Giotto Bizzarrini went off to build his own racing machines to compete on the international stage. Powered by a monstrous small block V8, this very car-Bizzarrini A3/C No. 0222-would go on to win its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1965.

If I can't own it, I'm glad someone like Bruce Meyer can. His love for cars really comes through, doesn't it?

    • @davidhollenshead4892

You don't want to own it, as unless you have a few million to burn, as you can't afford it.
Shit, I currently could not afford what my mint VW Westy is worth, in todays market.
The catch is that anything made the mid 90s is becoming very ex$pensive...

I'm 28 years old and happened to have read a whole book about Giotto Bizzarrini a few years back after my dad persuaded me to do so. I personally think it's a pure blessing to have learned so much about a car marque that so few people know about and the importance of preserving historic car knowledge through generations. Before collecting and/or racing cars it's good to know a bit of car history: that way you understand the difference between a normal production line vehicle and a hand built sports car. The first is a tool and the latter is just pure emotion wrapped in a a body shell. Great video!
P.S: I think Giotto was also involved in the development of the wondeful Iso Grifo

Bruce Meyer is, without any doubt, the coolest guy in the car hobby. His collection is world-class; in this video you can see some of his other cars, including the Briggs Cunningham No. 2 LeMans Corvette and the C6.R class-winning LeMans car. But what impresses most is his enthusiasm for sharing his love for these cars. They are not hidden in a warehouse somewhere but present at all kinds of events. I have never seen a video featuring Mr. Meyer where he does not come across as totally likeable--after all, this is the man who persuaded the Pebble Beach Concours to add hot rods. The Bizzarrini video is just so perfect, reflecting both the passion of the Italian maker but also that of the American collector. And that small block Chevy sound...ahh!

It was 117 degrees the day we filmed this piece and he was driving a furnace around the track. Smiled the whole time, never complained, even when emerging out of the car completely soaked (or when we asked him to wait while we made adjustments to camera). I would strongly campaign for a "how to be Bruce" course early in one's academic career. :)

Someone should tell Bruce Meyer that a propane fuel kit for a 327 can replace the four carbs, so they can be preserved, and more importantly, so he can register it in a decade, despite being an ICE engine car. I wonder how long I will be allow to register my 91 Vanagon Westy, here in the West Coast.

I had the pleasure of driving on a rally with Bruce last year through the Arizona desert. He was in an E-type semi-lightweight. I was in a Renault Alpine. Stringing together the corners like pearls on a necklace... it was an unforgettable experience. And, he is a man who can truly showcase the potential of a car! Short of one race-spec 2.7 Carrera RS, there was nothing other than his E-Type lightweight that could keep up with us in the canyons! If nothing else, it was a pleasure driving with ya', Bruce! :)

In the mid sixties, there was a sultry shot of a Bizz in Playboy, in a car article. Maybe around 1966, or so. I was 15. I had no particular aptitude for cars and car tech. But that was it for me. Never heard a word about it until I went to a special car show on the greens in the Presidio of San Fancisco, coincidentally, right in front of the Army headquarters building my father worked in for 25 years. I actually sneaked in behind a tent, as I didn't want to drop the fifty bucks to get in. And there it was. A silver Bizzarrini. I was transfixed. And took a lot of pics. That was about 8 years ago, around 2008. People were great to talk too, and I didn't embarrass myself. Now, we have an unreal car show on Van Ness, in the floor windows or the Art Acadamy, in two separate buildings. Incredible cars sit in these windows for anyone to see day in and day out. Delaunay, you name it.

That very low center of gravity is what always got me when looking at this beauty...

Great piece, love the car, so appreciate the perspective of the owner.
Like any kid from the 70s who grew up on Speed Racer, this these things had my heart at first instance [in pictures]. Seeing a couple at Amelia Island over the years has only solidified the lust. Maybe my favorite marque/cars ever.
    Plus... underdog/outcast status! Bravo!

I am one of the few who knew what this car is from per Internet days. I saw one run recently, just fantastic. Thank you for another great video 👍

I remember seeing (and hearing) one of these at the Goodwood Revival and straight away it went to the top of the dream car list
