I remember as a 10 year old seeing the demo for Crazy Taxi at Best Buy and all of us kids at the time were lined up to play it because it was so mind blowing. My favorite mod for the Dreamcast in this video was the GDEMU resistor mod for the VA0, because as an aspiring electrical engineer trying to get better at soldering- your visual footage of soldering was the cleanest I've ever seen and will help me immensely with future projects (my soldering has been mostly sloppy controller repair with a cheap iron and solder). The Hakko soldering station would be a blessing. I'm at the same handle on Bsky and have already followed you- also, definitely subscribing and liking this video. Hope you had a good Christmas, Nacho. DC had one of the best console launches imho. I could be wrong but I think it was the best selling launch to that point, until the PS2 came out next year.

Back in the day, I ran the VGA mod, converted it to component video, and ran a stunning 480p into my HDTV rear-pro. Pretty awesome at the time, when the alternative was S-video.
GDEmu has got to be my favorite. In all honesty, it is the best because of how available and easy it is to setup for the great features that it provides. Being able to have all of your roms at your fingertips is the way to go!
Very nice video, I never owned a Dreamcast but I have several friends who always have hyped it up. Imo the RetroGEM HDMI mod is probably my favorite, being able to carry a console forward on modern displays just can't be beat!

I finally got a dreamcast for Christmas so this video is perfect for me! Thanks!! Always love learning about console hardware and mods from you, your videos really help me feel more confident doing this stuff to my own consoles. I want to keep them healthy but I still need to learn how to solder... I definitely got way ahead of myself collecting so many. But I'm excited to learn!! I ordered a flippydrive after watching your video on it and it should be here in January, it'll be my first "hardware" mod ever! And hopefully I'll be doing many more soon after! Merry Christmas!!!
Honestly servicing the fan would be a huge help most likely! But I have to say I love the HDMI mod! It would help me in my place to be able to play a little easier. Congratulations on the Hakko sponsor! I know they have great stuff I just don't usually have the money to get it just yet. But someday, it can happen! Happy new year!
The HDMI Mod and USB C Power mod look so clean on that custom shell! Those have to be my favorite Dreamcast mods, as well as the RetroGEM functionality.
The Gdemu mod was the first time I ever opened a console. That led to buying a cheap soldering iron, battery mod, fan mod, capacitors and so many other mods on other consoles. Thanks for all the tutorials they've helped me so much.
Cool build, always amazes me that there are so many people working on such cool mods for retro systems. I remember my friend got a Dreamcast and i can remember many hours of playing Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and others, was such a great era with so many great titles coming out for consoles and PC, the golden age of gaming imo.
Not just game systems, apparently those who have vintage and retro computer systems do as well like those for Apple and Commodore computers but also not forgetting Atari as well.
I love the RetroGEM, usbC psu, and the GDemu mods for the system, while it's not much of a mod, that blue shell looks sick. I also love all the extrs VMU mods -that thing what what I loved the most about the dreamcast back in the day. can't wait for them.
Great video as always! I was 11 when the Dreamcast came out and wanted one desperately. I was also a Sega kid with the Genesis Model 2 being my first console that was actually mine.. we had a NES but it was considered the “family” console. I did end up getting a Dreamcast but it was a couple years later (after I got a PS2 and GameCube). Still, I had a blast with it and it is still one of my favorite consoles of all time. I have done some minor soldering but my hand never feels steady enough to do a lot of the soldering I see you do. My favorite mod is for sure the HDMI mod.
i feel that the hdmi and usb-c mods shine here. the convenience of having these installed really does a huge leap and bound with making these consoles more convenient and simple to setup and use. as a fan of clear technology though, that shell is also quite enticing.
How is it no one mentioned 11:44? I got all excited wondering what knife you had that cut through a component like butter. I had to pause a few times to realize what you did. Well played :)
Im a recent subscriber, and Ive half binged so many of your videos. Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your upbeat attitude and the vibes all of your videos have, as someone getting into retro gaming and modding again after a long break its been a very good watch. :) The new bios chip mod especially is fascinating, to see such in depth changes to such an old console, it blows me away the dedication people have after all this time!
I was 16 and I saved up 1 month and half of summer job money. I had $600 for 9.9.99 I still remember going to the mall and picking up my pre order and 2 more games because I still had money left off after getting the DC, 3 controllers, 3 vmu, and 4 games
Oh same, I worked at a bakery all summer and saved up so that I could buy every game I wanted on launch day. Very special console to me for that memory.
Great video! I've been modding all my old consoles and your channel has been extremely helpful. I just recently modded my Dreamcast and I would say that my favorite thing was adding the GDEMU and the new shell!
The DC controller was the nay for me. The lack of buttons and the missing second analogue joystick when comparing it to the original PSX Dual Shock controller, i remember thinking to myself and mentioning it the cashier at Sears while purchasing my PSX over the DC that the DC had no chance in this market. I was 11 at the time, aware of how big of a disaster the Saturn was but the lack of buttons when compared to a PlayStation, the DC was dead on arrival so I skipped the DC due to the controller.
My favorite has to be the GDEMU, love being able to load any game from a menu! Love your channel and you have been a huge inspiration for me to get into repairing and modding consoles!
congrats on the Hakko sponsorship, that is a huge get. you deserve. If i eventually scrounge up enough to buy a hakko it will be because of watching your videos, thats for sure. My favorite dreamcast mod is the “legacy” Dc digital that i installed a few years ago, hard to imagine i have been in the game long enough to have a legacy HDMI mod, but here we are. now to follow you on bluesky!
RetroRobot was surprising to me as I didn’t see that coming. Great video and thank you for showing the Dreamcast the love it deserves! I’d love to learn how to mod my Dreamcast and Wii and that Hakko would come in handy!
I love my gdemu mod I did on my Dreamcast with the help of your video! I’ve played so many games on this thing that would have cost me an arm and a leg otherwise! I also have an arcade stick hooked up so I can play the huge plethora of fighting games on the Dreamcast. I would love to receive the Hakko soddering kit to take my modding skills to the next level! Thank you and Happy Holidays!
I’ve always been jealous of my dad’s Hakko soldering equipment! That optical drive replacement is really handy, despite the nostalgia of using discs it’s nice to not have to worry about scratched discs anymore.
Thanks, Tito, I enjoy the update modding videos. It gives me an idea what new improvements are out there or viable replacement for mods that are no longer in existence. It may not technically be a mod but definitely a workaround I have really enjoyed with my Dreamcast is DreamPi, Using a RPi to connect the Dreamcast modem to the Internet without the need for the expensive broadband adapter is pretty cool.
My favorites have got to be the custom BIOs chip and the Resistor mods. Soldering if my favorite thing to do ever since I started on my Gameboys. Thank for showing me how to get into repairing my retro consoles. Love you Tito.
Great video! Awesome job on the RetroGem install. Doing Gem installs is my favorite mod to do across all the consoles. Can’t wait for the GC and Wii. Thanks!
Yeah, this would be great as then I can possibly do the same to my Wii and possibly the one GameCube I have left, either that or just use the plug and play variation like the Eon Mk II or similar devices for the other one.
I dreamed of an alternate timeline where in response to PS2 rumors, Sega quickly doubled down and refreshed the Dreamcast into a fully backwards compatible Dreamcast 2 with full Naomi specs, DVD support, and and updated controller. Beating the PS2 to market, securing titles like GTA3, Halo, Forza. It’s a fever dream I know.
Very cool! Not a lot of videos on the VA0 Dreamcast. I Have the same board and bios chip Are you able to flash the bios using dreamshell once it's installed? Mine appears as read-only when I try.
Hakko as a sponsor is great! I love my desoldering tool. My favorite mod is straight forward, in the MODE. Dropping an ssd or hdd in allows for far better capacity per dollar ratio.
My favorite mod for the Dreamy Dreamcast was the Pixel FX RetroGEM HDMI mod! Even though it was the most difficult mod, it makes a difference to really modernize the console.
The RetroGEM HDMI mod is my favorite. I love how they made this one product for multiple consoles. I don't have a Dreamcast, but I will be installing this on my PS2.
My favorite mod will always be the GDEMU. I like to keep my consoles as stock as possible, but replacing the disc drive with a card reader or something similar feels quite needed. Not only for convenience, but preservation of the console's functionality. Good job on getting the Hakko sponsorship! Definitely a good brand to rep.
I am a Dreamcast modder and had never seen this model. Earlier this month I bought a broken Dreamcast at the flea market (bad disc drive) but I never touched it. Today I opened it and I cannot believe it’s the model you have here in the video. Thank you for this information. Felt surreal.
Happy new year Tito, hope you and yours had a good'un! As for the Dreamcast... One of my favourite consoles ever, so far ahead of its time. I got one when they were discontinued and retailers were selling off stock for next to nothing. Good times!
I think my favorite (i.e. preferred) mod would be the GDEMU. The convenience of having games on an SD card, loaded and ready to rock seems like a no-brainer. The HDMI out is a close second. The ease of HDMI integration with current TVs outstrips most other mods. Thanks for all your awesome work over the years. I'm now following you on Bluesky and look forward to seeing what you have in store for 2025!
Nice job scoring the Hakko sponsor, and for me the HDMI mods are always a favorite of mine, love crisp clear colors and only needing one cord for all my consoles.
My favorite mod is the HDMI mod. Makes connecting to modern tvs so much easier. I used to have a Hakko 808 desoldering gun, and miss having it every time I am doing a repair
I love the PixelFX mod. Looks fantastic. I remember the first time I played Dreamcast. A friend brought it over in middle school for Christmas break for a sleepover party. He only had one game (I forgot which), so we wanted to rent some more games. We all couldn't fit in 1 car, so we decided to walk a mile in late December in Michigan to Blockbuster. Rented some games and grabbed a pizza from little caesars. We for sure rented Vigilante 8. Always wanted a Dreamcast.
It's amazing that the Dreamcast is still getting attention. I was also a Sega kid. I had Genesis, Saturn, and I bought the Dreamcast with money from my first job on day 1. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Wish I still had it
My favorite mod is the USB-C power supply. Simplifying a replacement with a universal unit, and a now-universal plug is fantastic. I'd love to see more USB-C PD mods for more retro consoles!
You didn't do it here as it's mostly a VA1 mod, but my favorite DC mod is replacing the fan with a modern one from Noctua. It's really the last bit necessary to get a totally silent console! Thanks for the giveaway!!
This is probably my favorite build of yours so far. Thank you for showing these mods. I need to take my DC out of storage now. I actually think it's a Va0 console. I'm excited!
I think my favorite mod you've shown for your Dreamcast is the USB-C mod. The HDMI is super sweet, and providing the awesome graphics is good, but I truly think the USB-C implementation and ability make it such a powerful mod. Keep up the awesome videos and i'm looking out for more!
My favourite mod, besides the HMDI mod, is adding in the jumper wires, as they are critical details for functionality. But your quality of work and explanation are great for those interested in DC mods.
I've never played or used a Dreamcast. That said, my favorite mod would be the RetroGEM HDMI mod you showed in this video. It allows the console to connect to modern TV's. I could absolutely make use of that soldering iron to start modding my old gameboys and old iPod.
That is a thing of beauty! Hard to explain why but I remember buying my Dreamcast opening week more than any console I ever bought. So many top memories with that thing!!!
Dreamcast was my first home console that was actually mine. Got it for Christmas the year it came out and spent countless hours on Sonic Adventure, Soul Caliber, and Crazy Taxi. So much nostalgia. Now I just need to find where I put the dang thing.
The Retrogem mod looks incredible. The Dreamcast is my favorite console of all time but sadly I don't own one. After seeing this video I'm going to get one very soon!
Followed on blue sky. Love the channel. My favorite mod I installed for the Dreamcast was the DC Digital from PixelFX. I got a desoldering gun from Hakko last year for Christmas and it’s a game changer.
The GDEmu mod is my favorite one. So much better than still burning CDs or having stacks of disks around. I miss this console. Was my favorite birthday gift
I really like the PixelFX RetroGEM HDMI Mod, because it was cool seeing the complex install; doesn't hurt that it also brings the console up to date to plug into newer TVs.
I loved taking the day off at work to pickup my pre-order Dreamcast at EB games and playing Soul Calibur and Sonic Adventure. The HDMI adapter looks awesome!!!
worth mentioning you can now develop your own Dreamcast games written in C, using Raylib. If you have the modem bought, you can also copy them (via Network) without burning CDs or swapping flash-disks.
The HDMI kit and the GDEMU are my favorite mods, these are absolute game changers! Shout out to Hakko, I have their desoldering gun and it is head and shoulders better than any other desoldering tool I have ever used.
thank you for mentioning my 18650 battery mod, unfortunately i could not deliver it in time.
that looks so much better then the hack job i did with an AA holder.
Time is much less important that quality. The gaming world has taught me that many times.
I've been waiting months for stock to replenish. I'm on the email list. I haven't heard anything about new stock.
Take your time making them. It's better for anything electrical to take time and be perfect every time than a bodge job
Congratulations on the hakko sponsorship wow that's amazing

The Gdemu mod was the first time I ever opened a console. That led to buying a cheap soldering iron, battery mod, fan mod, capacitors and so many other mods on other consoles. Thanks for all the tutorials they've helped me so much.
Hey Tito, thanks for the video!
I think so far the coolest mod I've seen has to go to the VMU2. Such an interesting way to renew life to VMU's
I mean, how could my favorite mod not be the GD-Emu? The entire DC library at my finger tips? Beautiful! Thanks for all the helpful vids Tito!
My favorite mod is definitely the HDMI mod!! Being able to just plug it into any modern TV is awesome!!
By far the most useful mod for the Dreamcast is the battery mod!
i feel that the hdmi and usb-c mods shine here. the convenience of having these installed really does a huge leap and bound with making these consoles more convenient and simple to setup and use. as a fan of clear technology though, that shell is also quite enticing.
How is it no one mentioned 11:44? I got all excited wondering what knife you had that cut through a component like butter. I had to pause a few times to realize what you did. Well played :)
wow this is the first youtube sponsorship i think ive ever seen that wasn't a scam and was a company i respect
I'm all about the optical drive emulator for the Dreamcast, since that opens up the whole world of homebrew.
The Dreamcast was the first console I bought with my own money as an adult. It will forever have a special place in my heart.
I was 16 and I saved up 1 month and half of summer job money. I had $600 for 9.9.99
I still remember going to the mall and picking up my pre order and 2 more games because I still had money left off after getting the DC, 3 controllers, 3 vmu, and 4 games
Oh same, I worked at a bakery all summer and saved up so that I could buy every game I wanted on launch day. Very special console to me for that memory.
my favorite dreamcast mod is that usb C PSU you bought. Really love the drop in power replacements with USBC for retro consoles.
Now the $64,000 question: is anyone attempting to sell fully tricked-out units for those of us who are a potato with a soldering iron?
I'm a potato with the soldering iron so I hope so
Great video!
Good call
My favorite has to be the GDEMU, love being able to load any game from a menu! Love your channel and you have been a huge inspiration for me to get into repairing and modding consoles!
I'm sorry, but you're SO WRONG. The retail bootup screen is 1000x better than whatever that devkit crap was.
congrats on the Hakko sponsorship, that is a huge get. you deserve.
Thanks!
Yeah, this would be great as then I can possibly do the same to my Wii and possibly the one GameCube I have left, either that or just use the plug and play variation like the Eon Mk II or similar devices for the other one.
that's some cyberpunk level modding right there.
I Have the same board and bios chip
Are you able to flash the bios using dreamshell once it's installed?
My grandma loved her dreamcast! I wish I had one to replay some of the games we played. I think the GDEmu and HDMI mods would be a must have.
Good times!
Definitely my favorites are the GDEMU and the Retro_Robot USB-C. I actually just ordered a GDEMU. Thanks for another great review of mods!
Love the channel.. Looking forward to a Sega CD mod 😊
Great video as always. I followed your videos and build me a GDEMU Dreamcast and never been happier ❤
Amazing results! Amazing console that deserved so much better...
The blue shell was a perfect choice!
Dreamcast was my all time favorite system. it really brought us into the future on 9.9.99
That day arcades became obsolete almost overnight.
Congrats on the Hakko sponsorship. I love all of the products I have purchased from them. 🙂
I'm excited!
man, I'm not sure I'm as dedicated to living as you are to doing this sort of thing. But as a lifelong Sega and Dreamcast fan, I love it.
I have always used Hakko soldering equipment at the office, never been disappointed! Highly recommended.
Very impressive mod! Even something so simple as running the system off of usb-c is incredible to see!
Followed on blue sky. Love the channel.
My favorite mod I installed for the Dreamcast was the DC Digital from PixelFX. I got a desoldering gun from Hakko last year for Christmas and it’s a game changer.
This is just fantastic! Thank you for the video, happy holidays!
The GDEmu mod is my favorite one. So much better than still burning CDs or having stacks of disks around.
I miss this console. Was my favorite birthday gift
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Macho Nacho.🎁🎄🍾
I really like the PixelFX RetroGEM HDMI Mod, because it was cool seeing the complex install; doesn't hurt that it also brings the console up to date to plug into newer TVs.
I loved taking the day off at work to pickup my pre-order Dreamcast at EB games and playing Soul Calibur and Sonic Adventure.
The HDMI adapter looks awesome!!!
worth mentioning you can now develop your own Dreamcast games written in C, using Raylib. If you have the modem bought, you can also copy them (via Network) without burning CDs or swapping flash-disks.
Great video. I've got my modding space all set up, now I just need the gear. GDEMU and RetroGEM would be my first mods for sure.
Was very surprised to see Hakko as a sponsor. As for favorite mod, I probably say HDMI output their just so convenient, but the ODE is a close second.
The HDMI kit and the GDEMU are my favorite mods, these are absolute game changers! Shout out to Hakko, I have their desoldering gun and it is head and shoulders better than any other desoldering tool I have ever used.
Love seeing the HAKKO sponsorship! Favorite mod is definitely GDEMU.
