The ways how we dress tell many stories. Like; the level of Self-confidence, attention to detail, complexity or simplicity, intention to be noticed or no, vulgarity or style, how practical or vane we are etc
Agree with everything except the one about too much jewelry. I'm one of those people who loves wearing and coordinating lots of different jewelry pieces at once and after putting much thought into how it can be worn I can say there are ways you can make it work. I've stacked lots of rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings all in the same outfit. Stacking jewelry is an art you can learn to be skilled at. The advice offered in this video is for people who don't put too much thought into jewelry, maybe focusing more on the rest of the outfit.
A set is three pieces. Necklace, ring, a pair of earrings. Full stop. If you want a bracelet as well, leave out one of the former three. If your hands are your most beautiful body parts, it actually makes sense to wear both a bracelet and a ring to call attention to your most beautiful assets. But the third item can be a necklace OR earrings, not both. A woman is not a Xmas tree, after all.
At first I was offended by the title because I believe rules were made by people who want control over the masses. I believe we all can wear whatever we want to. I do understand everything you said! The main thing I agree with is about the office environment! Very well done!
What Bright Side say is meaningless. Their website is nothing but a money-making operation and they use fake images and lie just to get people to share their content.
Note: These are for the most part correct and crucial for FORMAL SITUATIONS. This doesnt really apply if you're in a casual setting like at a party or whatever. Schools are somewhere in between, depending on your school.
Here are some more _important_ rules for dressing yourself: 1.) If a color or pattern combination is physically painful or disorienting to look at, it should not be worn. 2.) Never wear a belt and suspenders at the same time. 3.) Never wear clothes with words printed on the butt. 4.) Pants are meant to be worn in a way that keeps butts and underwear fully covered. 5.) Dark colors help hide blood stains. ...What? Number five is good advice for women on their period. Accidental stains aren't that big a deal if your underpants are black.
Thank you! Finally, I am 16 and have all but lost hope that people dress right these days. Especially in High school, people should have more respect for themselves and others. This is coming from a girl who got glared/ stared at every day by others for as a teacher once told me ´ looking like a high-class art critic.´ Its just common fashion sense with the weather, stop following trends, find a style that works best for you, and please dress right. :)
It is amazing how differently people treat you when you look a bit put together and professional. it may not be right, but when we see someone we have roughly 0.05th of a second to formulate an instant opinion of that person. Point is, dress however you want - it is your choice - but be aware that how people perceive you is intrinsically linked to how they will treat you.
Y'all, these are just _business casual_ rules. Nobody's saying you can't do this, they're just explaining what you're meant to do in certain types of jobs. You're not being revolutionary by saying you disagree with the video.
Actually, we are being revolutionary, because maybe if we express that we don't want to be controlled in this manner and that it's very oppressive, we can actually make all of this nonsense stop once and for all and we can live in a better society where individuality is respected and valued as it should be.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t believe what I see on a daily basis. You forgot my mom’s cardinal rule though: just because you can get it on your body doesn’t mean it fits.
BRIGHT SIDE ... I'd highly suggest changing the video title, as this only applies to business/professional environments. The title, as is, implies these guidelines apply to everyday situations too, which they do not, most of the time.
Most of the time a pretty woman will look amazing no matter what she wears and other people won't care if there is 1 piece of jewelry too much or what not. As for guys.. mismatched socks, oil/ paint/ epoxy stained jeans with burnt holes from angle grinder and a 15 year old shirt is my usual attire. Got decent leather shoes though so maybe one day I'll get laid.
I always used this personal rule-wear what you would-as a NORMAL PERSON-wear at a wake or funeral-that is professional and not tacky attire to the office

Hamm Hamm wanting to wear things that are appropriate in certain situations is ridiculous or...? You wouldn’t want to wear shorts and crop tops when it’s 10 below degrees outside, or wear a big jacket and a warm sweater when it’s 102 degrees outside, would you?

I fully agree. Not that many years ago, I dropped off my resume at an upscale insurance office and let's just say the secretary dressed like she was going to a night club. NOT the look you wanna strive for in a professional office setting. I was embarrassed for her. I should've quickly added a note that said, I don't think I'll be working here, after all, you people are embarrassing. LOL
Of course people already know this. That's the point of this video! to LEARN the basics. I may think bikinis are great for bank tellers, and that's fine I feel that way but it's STILL NOT PROPER DRESS Etiquette. That's what this video is about.
I believe the custom dates back to King Edward VII who was rather portly and couldn't fasten his bottom button, so the courtiers starting leaving theirs undone because it wasn't appropriate to look better than the king.
If the last button wasn't there, then the middle button would become the bottom button and everything would go helter skelter from there. You got to have the bottom button so you can button the middle button. .

Of course, you can wear what you like, but if you care about other people's favor, that can be a consideration.
I never bothered about matching my earrings and bracelet or my necklace and ring. Now I know better.
A set is three pieces. Necklace, ring, a pair of earrings. Full stop. If you want a bracelet as well, leave out one of the former three. If your hands are your most beautiful body parts, it actually makes sense to wear both a bracelet and a ring to call attention to your most beautiful assets.
