A little late to the comment party, but thank you for posting this!! Our bodies come in so many shapes and sizes, we often take the blame for something not fitting correctly and reinforcing the message something is wrong with how we're shaped. Thank you for the tips and for not forcing any kind of fashion trend, but instead reminding everyone there's nothing wrong with us, it's the choices we're presented with. Keep up the positivity!
Same! I thought I was number one (wife shoulders and a narrow waste) until she showed Eva Longoria and recommended low waisted jeans.. I look TERRIBLE in low waisted jeans.. so idk what type I am now
This WAS life-changing! As an apple-shaped, tall, slim child - looking for jeans has been a big headache ever since I can remember. (Being apple-shaped in 2012 was very different than now. The plus-sized section was very limited and I have memories of my poor mother and I spending hours searching through the stiff materials, either not satisfied with the baggy butt or the buttons that didn't close.) Today, I gathered my energy and bought 4 different jeans at thrift stores that cost me a total of $50. I didn't try them on, but I made sure they wrapped around my neck and reached the floor when I held them against my legs. They were a variety of rises, so when I got home I took a fabric measuring tape and categorized them by rise measurement. End result: I'm 5'8', and I need a 12 in rise to not create any muffin-tops. I had been wearing jeans with 9-11 inch rise (!!!!) That's why my jeans so often needed to be pulled up. It's wild how much 1 in difference in rise can make both the buttocks and stomach area feel/look more comfortable! My low-rise jeans (the ones with 10-in rise) I'll be keeping for use with loose blouses and when bloating is better. So thank you thank you thank you!
I came back to this video YEARS after watching it for the first time to figure out what jeans I need. Just ordered the H&M skinny highs 😂 Thank you for putting all of these little things into words! You're seriously the real MVP

I really love how you’re completely real with us. You don’t hide things like ‘rolls’ for example when you’re showing poorly fitting jeans and you give actual advice
Try hollister mom jeans they’re very comfortable and also super cute with a tight shirt! As for their skinny jeans their also rlly good quality but if like me you’re not super skinny u would recommend sizing up from ur usual size. In mom jeans I can fit into a 1 but with skinny jeans I’m a five so idk just thought I could be useful for once lol🤷♀️
@@evegergis9928 but holister only sells for "smaller" people..im not that big but I cant fit in their sizes. But ive always wanted a pair. Same wirh AE and most other big name brands like that..like u dont usually see holister jeans in a size 14 or 15.
fr idk about u but all the jeans i have are uncomfortable and they itch alot, i think its the fabric but im trying to find good jeans that is non itchy
GIRL I'M ABOUT TO CRY I'VE BEEN TELLING MY MOTHER ABOUT THIS EVER SINCE I WAS A TEEN AND SHE NEVER LISTENED AHHHH I KNEW I WASN'T PICKY I WAS RIGHT BRUHHHHH
Plan b Plan b I don’t think my weight is the problem cos I’m skinny. Jeans fit me well but I need ones specifically with large zippers or I fell really uncomfortable in them.
I think Levi’s have got their crap figured out, they have all the good properties listed, the pockets are perfectly set, they got the nice vintage feel most of the time and they’ve got they’re sizing figured out (ie waist size 25x28 instead of a size 4R, which doesn’t show measurements and is very vague and differs between brands, whereas with Levi’s they just do the circumference in inches of the waist and the length of the pants in inches). They have the five pocket figured out, the zipper/buttons figured out, and for the most part it’s the best for every body type. Above all, they’re consistent. With AE, I notice that they have different sized pockets and spacing in the back and I can never find the right ones for my body type. AE does sometimes have close to perfect jeans, but it’s much rarer and I can always count on Levi’s.
I haven't worn Levi's in years. In the 80s I wore 501 but as I got older and had children my lower half spread out. I've found that Levi's fit great for straighter bodies. If they fit in the thighs they bag in the waist. I loved Levi's though
Levis are great quality but they fit horribly on curvier body types. The cut is SO straight. I recently measured some of their jeans. I would have needed a size almost 4 sizes smaller for my waist then for my thighs.
Ok this video literally changed my mom’s life, like I convinced her to watch it and it inspired her to buy some more jeans, which lead her to totally updating her wardrobe and style (which she hadn’t updated in 20 years) and now she looks and feels amazing! Love your vids 💕💕
I will be that mom that updated if I can find the right jeans. It's been awhile since I even cared to search. Although I should wear high waisted I still adore the hip huggers of old. They are so much more comfortable. High waisted are uncomfortable.
@@siennavine81 They don't, if they are simply told the barebone truth neutrally. But comments about weight, even compliments, come with judgment attached to them, often for superficial reasons. Just because I'm overweight doesn't mean that the body "ideals" society tries to impose are not harmful and ridiculous. Bottom line: if you tell me I'm overweight because of health reasons, and I know that you're not superficial, we're good. I'll even egg you on. If you come at it in terms of "not good enough because of societal beauty standards", that's just being a nasty bully and you better believe I'll bite your head off, and you will have fully deserved it.
THANK YOU! The details you include in your explanation are the best I've ever heard. Many times I've heard about how pocket placement on the back of your jeans makes the difference between flattering, flattening, or enlarging your rear BUT you're the first person I've heard go into enough detailed explanation of how the placement should be! I also appreciate how you mentioned the front zipper. I've always known some pants looked awful from the front but couldn't ever figure what it was that made most pants look so bad. I'm a body type 7, I think. Used to be the perfect hourglass shape, & thin, at 5'6" 136lbs. Even then I STILL COULD NEVER FIND CLOTHES THAT FIT RIGHT! Clothes shopping, especially for bras, has been the bane of my existence. I really need to have tailered made clothes due to extra long torso, really short legs, & slightly distorted hourglass shape, wish I didn't hate sewing so much.
@@alaaehab8224 No, hip dips and muffin top are two different things. muffin top can be removed by exercising the stomach area, while hip dips cant vanish.
OMG this video changed my entire thought process on purchasing jeans!!! Thank you for putting this video out there. Im 53yrs young, hahaha, and my body shape has definitely been thru some changes over the years. Im used to being a smaller size than I am rn, so i gave up buying jeans that would fit or flatter my shape in any way. But i believe i just may be able to find a pair that could do just that for me. I am impressed that someone else feels this way about jeans. Not all brands are flattering on my body shape. My butt and belly are a little bit bigger than im used to so i gave up on even trying to find some that fit me. Lol. Thanks for such valuable information. 💜
I honestly really love this video, I used to look down horribly on my body size especially around the stomach and waist area. But I've come to realize that it's not me that's the problem, I just don't have well fitted clothes for my type and when I do, I actually look pretty amazing! ☺☺
ok I thought the exact same thing!! I was not going to click, but I know her videos are quality and honest and actually useful.. No long blabber, just right to the chase!
that zipper thing ACTUALLY just changed my life... that being said, it's still extremely difficult for me to find traditional jeans because of the dramatic size difference between my waist and hips lol. i tend to gravitate towards jeans with a LOT of stretch- that way i know they're going to go over my bum and still not gap at the waist. i also love a good "convincing" jegging or anything with an elasticized waist! haha
LadyPennyroyal same :(( my skirt for example is sooo big right over the butt (it’s high waisted) but if a would buy a smaller size my butt wouldn’t fit..
This is a great video! As a petite hourglass, I stick to either mid-rise or high-rise jeans. I mainly wear skinny jeans but sometimes wear straight-leg styles. I had a professional style analysis and was told to never wear bootcut, flare, or wide-leg styles because they overwhelm me. An excellent hack for hourglass women: if the front of the waist does not dip significantly, the jeans will not fit and will gap in the waist! I mainly wear True Religion, WHBM, and Loft jeans because all of those brands make curvy-fit jeans, which don't gap at the waist or pull at the hips.
I ALWAYS NOTICE THAT CROTCH THING it’s also always so annoying and im always trying to pull my jeans up to get rid of it. thank you for making this video and helping me realize what’s causing it
Wow finally a UA-camr who doesnt do the same old stuff others are doing for a “Trend” but finally someone who is actually very helpful, just wanted to let you know
I remember watching this for the first time years ago, and even though I didn't retain 100% of it I still had the main points floating around my head. I'm in the middle of trying to find my ~perfect~ jeans right now, and this is soooo helpful.
It's more the cut of the jeans than the waist. Low rise jeans the hit below the hip bone will look bad on anyone. As for comfort, I don't know how anyone can stand them. I'm long waisted and not that curvy in the hips, something she did not consider. I like jeans that hit just below the waist. Also, most jeans cut in way too much at the waist for me. If you are like me, find jeans that hit just an inch or so below the waist and not so curve. If you can't find women's jeans that fit, try men's jeans. They come in more sizes and cuts and naturally have lower waists because a man's waist is usually lower.
claire elise Lol what she said I have high rised jeans because I was more curvy I guess, and I would do the same if she said that to me i litterly would have screamed too😂

Greatest jean video I've ever seen! I knew I didn't like my jeans to have a big space from the zipper to the crotch. I didn't know about the placement of the pockets to make your butt look amazing and the all over fit look better. I'm one who always has to try them on. This is game changer to save so much time. Thank you so much!🔥
Reminder: • high waisted •darker colors (maybe a few light 🥲) •long zipper(stay away from short ones) •small pockets not too far nor close from middle and not low •don’t throw in dryer, hang dry them •check to see if fit perfectly around your neck to see if they fit :)))
Watching this while wearing my $15 Walmart jeans and they have every positive feature you mentioned! Higher waisted, long zipper, smaller & perfectly placed pockets, a solid wash... and they're my favorite jeans! Good doesn't have to be expensive! Yay
I love how proud and confident she was about her body. The way she talked about finding clothes to compliment the body instead of trying to change herself really made me feel better about me. I’m sure we all have to deal with different insecurities and lately I’ve been feeling really horrible about myself from the way that my own family is ALWAYS criticizing the way I look from my hair to my feet. But watching Alexandra’s videos always make me feel better and more confident so I can feel happy with myself. So thank you so much Alexandra because I’m definitely not the only person you’ve helped with all your videos
Go one further... don’t wash them! Every now and then throw them in a ziplock bag and throw them in the freezer overnight to ‘clean’. Only if they actually get dirty dirty, should you wash them.
Yeh definitely not if you actually wear them for labor intensive work, as I said ‘dirty, dirty’. Workers jeans would be a different type of denim material that is fine to wash, bc you’re bound to replace them every year or so.. I used to work in a uniform store for miners and contractors so those are def made to be used and abused.
Thanks. When I was younger and my parents took me shopping for pants, they would do that waist checking thing with my neck. I would be so embarrassed. Now that I'm older, my husband and I do the same thing now. 😅 Oh, how wise our parents are!
I know right; it's so annoying when you see that the jeans are fitting the thighs and hips just fine but then you see the open gap between your skin and the jeans at the waist, especially with high waisted jeans.
You thin people really should consider loving yourself for who you are. I know soooo many people who would literally KILL to have your body and I think you’re all beautiful no matter what shape or size you are ❤️💕🥺
I needed this 20 years ago! This would have saved me not only $, but a bajillion minutes of my life back shopping for jeans. 😂 Thanks for these fantastic tips!
You should try the american eagle curvy jeans. I tried them on just to see how they'd fit but I have no curves at all, so it fit at the waist but there was all this extra room in the thigh area. Hopefully these are the jeans for you.
Wow. This was incredible. I've always had trouble shopping for the perfect clothes and I've spent most of my life cursing my purchases. That includes jeans and shirts. I love loose outfits, especially shirts and t-shirts, but they always look horrible on me and I always used to wonder why. Only rarely I've come across a comfortable pair of jeans that flatters my figure and fits amazingly well. Only now I'm realizing that body type plays such a significant role with regards to finding that perfect fit for any outfit. High rise jeans, leggings feel so snug and look great on me too, so do form fitting tops. I'm an hourglass btw.
I learned all of these things just a few years ago.. which is sad because I didn't until my 30s. All of my best body years I never knew how to dress for my shape. Now I'm dressing my best and not letting myself not dress my best! So happy you are sharing these "secrets" with the world! My biggest problem that I never knew was that all my jeans butt pockets were way too big and way to low on my butt. As a short girl (5'1) who is also very curvy, it's been extremely difficult to find jeans with high enough butt pockets. I imagine the jeans that look best on me probably look ridiculous if you just held them up to look at in front of you. But since I'm such a short girl who is curvy and also not overweight I had to accept my "unique" figure before I was confident enough to say I know what looks best and I'm not gonna compromise, I'll only choose what looks best on me even if it isn't what is most popular. I'll take those funky looking jeans off your hands thank you! Lol Last fun fact about myself: my sister is 5'2 and her legs are shorter than mine. Meaning I have long legs and a short torso. So high wasted is the only kind that gives me the best butt but also not always the best waist. Talk about difficult! Lol Anywho, I don't give up when searching and fortunately I've been able to find jeans after a ton of searching that I almost love 😛
Older post, I know, but I’m inclined to agree. I’m fairly petite at 5’3" but my legs are very long and my torso is very short. This means that high-waisted jeans sit wayyy above my waist and look & feel ridiculous. Mid-rise are my high-waisted and low-rise are mid-rise (if you can follow me). I'm learning to sew so I can alter things to fit me.
Reminder for myself: (I’m sorry keep scrolling) * High waisted jeans * Darker colors preferred * Try to get jeans without a space in between the zipper and crotch * No big spaces in between butt * Smaller pockets, higher up * Draw a line from were the shorts would be and make sure there is a space
@@kari.doesart heeey so I took out all my pairs and tried them on and checked. Soo the zipper does go very low but not until the end of the crotch like beyween my legs at the vagege 😂 it goes until the pubic bone which i think is ok. I still get creases between my torso/thigh, right there which annoys me. Idk if that classifies as a camel toe. I dont think so 😂

It's awesome that you talked about the crotch mistake which I think really "life changing". You just showed how important it is to choose the right type of jeans for the body ❤
I am 65...this is the best information I have read... I stopped wearing jeans for years. I am going through my jeans and having g a clean out! I am so sick of muffin tops and jeans that hurt when i sit down THANK YOU!
I remember when Levi's years ago launched their curvi collection, their slogan was " It's about shape not size" and I'm still baffled how hard it is to get a good pair of jeans today. 🤔
It’s not really that hard to get a good pair of jeans my mom just picked a pair of Levi jeans off the shelf at Walmart for me to try on and they’re comfy and fit perfectly (not high waisted because those are uncomfortable as f*ck)
I have sworn by Levi's for the last 14 years for the same reason. Don't care when their slogan started but their jeans has always been about the shape. And I being an overweight person, cannot tell you enough that Levi's really know how to make their jeans. The only complaint I have about them is that they don't provide big pockets for their female customers. Some of them are fake, they are only for show. I mean why do they assume that women do not need pockets? Why?
I’m headed to my closet right now to see which jeans to keep or give away based on what I now know. Had no idea about the long zipper in front. Great great tidbits! Thank you so much!
Make sure the color matches your complexion - soft instead of clear 1. Find your body shape - buy middle and high-waisted jeans 2. Darker colors look smaller and lighter looks bigger 3. Anything that cuts you in half will always make you look shorter. It doesn't elongate you and make you look cohesive 4. The crotch mistake - the end of the zipper and the crotch CANNOT have a space in between. They make you belly look fat and draw attention to a camel tow. 5. Pockets need to be close together and there should be a space between the butt crease and the end of the pocket 6. Hang your jeans to dry! Otherwise, they will become super soggy. 7. Put the jeans around your neck and button them. That will tell you the jean size
When her body looks like that .. she will pull off any type of clothing . Goals

The plus-sized section was very limited and I have memories of my poor mother and I spending hours searching through the stiff materials, either not satisfied with the baggy butt or the buttons that didn't close.)
Today, I gathered my energy and bought 4 different jeans at thrift stores that cost me a total of $50. I didn't try them on, but I made sure they wrapped around my neck and reached the floor when I held them against my legs.
They were a variety of rises, so when I got home I took a fabric measuring tape and categorized them by rise measurement.
End result:
I'm 5'8', and I need a 12 in rise to not create any muffin-tops. I had been wearing jeans with 9-11 inch rise (!!!!)
That's why my jeans so often needed to be pulled up.
It's wild how much 1 in difference in rise can make both the buttocks and stomach area feel/look more comfortable!
My low-rise jeans (the ones with 10-in rise) I'll be keeping for use with loose blouses and when bloating is better.
So thank you thank you thank you!

There are so many YT videos that open with "this will change your life". But this video actually did that.
I really love how you’re completely real with us.
You don’t hide things like ‘rolls’ for example when you’re showing poorly fitting jeans and you give actual advice
I have never looked at these things because I just want a pair that fits well enough to be comfortable.

I love wearing Levi's jeans. Since they've been including waist and leg length measurements, it makes shopping for jeans so much easier.
I haven't worn Levi's in years. In the 80s I wore 501 but as I got older and had children my lower half spread out. I've found that Levi's fit great for straighter bodies. If they fit in the thighs they bag in the waist. I loved Levi's though
That's because Levi's is nobility among jeans manufacturers.
Levis are great quality but they fit horribly on curvier body types. The cut is SO straight. I recently measured some of their jeans. I would have needed a size almost 4 sizes smaller for my waist then for my thighs.

@@siennavine81 They don't, if they are simply told the barebone truth neutrally. But comments about weight, even compliments, come with judgment attached to them, often for superficial reasons. Bottom line: if you tell me I'm overweight because of health reasons, and I know that you're not superficial, we're good. I'll even egg you on.
I've always known some pants looked awful from the front but couldn't ever figure what it was that made most pants look so bad.

that zipper thing ACTUALLY just changed my life... that being said, it's still extremely difficult for me to find traditional jeans because of the dramatic size difference between my waist and hips lol. i tend to gravitate towards jeans with a LOT of stretch- that way i know they're going to go over my bum and still not gap at the waist. i also love a good "convincing" jegging or anything with an elasticized waist! haha

Thank you for sharing. This is valuable information.

when you said that my body type should wear low rise jeans i screamed 😂 (i only like high rise lol)
OMG SAME LMAO, I can’t imagine myself with low rise argh 😂🙄

Lol
Last fun fact about myself: my sister is 5'2 and her legs are shorter than mine.
Reminder for myself:
(I’m sorry keep scrolling)
* High waisted jeans
* Darker colors preferred
* Try to get jeans without a space in between the zipper and crotch
* No big spaces in between butt
* Smaller pockets, higher up
* Draw a line from were the shorts would be and make sure there is a space
Darker colors to look thin
Light colors to look thick

I remember when Levi's years ago launched their curvi collection, their slogan was " It's about shape not size" and I'm still baffled how hard it is to get a good pair of jeans today. 🤔
I loved the old Levis where you could choose slight curve, demi curve, or bold curve. Best jeans ever!
@@anneholiday1744 Me too! 😃 They are definitely the best!
@@anneholiday1744 why did they discontinue them?? they were the BEST.
Make sure the color matches your complexion - soft instead of clear
1. Find your body shape - buy middle and high-waisted jeans
2. Darker colors look smaller and lighter looks bigger
3. Anything that cuts you in half will always make you look shorter. It doesn't elongate you and make you look cohesive
4. The crotch mistake - the end of the zipper and the crotch CANNOT have a space in between. They make you belly look fat and draw attention to a camel tow.
