@@graysonwagner1855 that doesn't sound right. It might heat the battery slightly but less than driving. There's a reason that there's a battery conditioning function when you drive to a charger. All that working out has really paid off for you in handling that CCS adapter and plug. Congrats on the new PR. On a more serious note, the charge curve probably wouldn’t allow 250kw at nearly 50% state of charge, but if it were warm you’d definitely get much higher than 98kw. Always amusing and informative videos! 👍🏻

Another great video (love your stuff). For the record... Level 2 chargers are 220 VAC and are not actually chargers, the are called electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) and the "charger" is actually in the car. The Level 2 "charger" that is built into your Model Y is maximum 11 kW (220 V X 48 amp). The function of the "charger" in the car is to convert the AC voltage from the Level 2 EVSE to DC. Level 3 chargers deliver DC current directly to the car, bypassing the car's internal "charger", and they deliver much higher voltages (400V for Teslas and up to 800V for some other vehicles) and much higher amperages. The designation of 150 kW vs 350 kW on the Electrify America chargers has nothing to do with Level 2 vs 3 (both are Level 3 chargers). Rather, the 150 kW vs 350 kW on the Electrify America chargers reflects the max power that can be delivered continuously.

A couple of things thoughts. You have to set up a account with Tesla with your credit card just like the other chargers require to simplify the billing part of charging. When are they going to start setting up charging stations like gas stations? That way you just pull up to either side of the charger depending on where your charge port is and be able to charge without backing in or out and just drive out. It would allow a standard charging cable length like a gasoline hose. It was nice of you to clean up the hose storage on the first charger.
I guess they are putting chargers in the way they are to minimize the initial cost of installing them until there are more EVs. Maybe one day we will have chargers with overhead covers, trash cans, air hoses, etc. Gas station design evolved over time to make it easy to fuel up and we are not their yet with electric charging stations.

It's not just a simple point of failure, but the complexity of supporting a screen interface makes the rest of the charger harder to test and validate. I'll bet they were thinking they needed to accommodate cars that might not be in the system and/or users/customers that didn't have their own accounts or connectivity. A mistake.

You should have been able to "pay at the pump" at the EA station with your credit card. No account necessary. As far as creating an EA account, that's really no different than what you have setup with Tesla, is it? Some vehicles have "plug and charge" set up with some networks (don't have a cross-reference, but I know that Ford and EA have this), so it would work just by plugging in without an app, etc to use. Obviously, if you want the discounted rate at EA, you have to have an account and pay a monthly fee, just like Tesla is now doing for non-Tesla vehicles.

With those adapters, you have what's necessary to make electric cars practical: The ability to pull up to ANY EV charger, and take on 'juice'. That's been my biggest criticism for electric vehicles, is the different kinds of connectors, requiring drivers to find a charger compatible with their cars. There should be a global, or at least, nationwide standard, so ANY car can pull up to ANY station. Just imagine the uproar, if you had to go to Chevron only, if you have a GM car, or, Shell if you have a Ford, or Tesoro, if you have a Dodge, or Phillips 66 if you have a Toyota, or Conoco if you have a Honda...You get the idea. That's NOT the case. Any brand of the right grade of fuel will run in any brand of car. That needs to be the same for electric vehicles. Apps are risky, and too much like "Rube Goldberg". Why can't you just "Pay at the pump" with electric, just the same as you can for gasoline or diesel? Why don't we have a single connector for all EV's? It could be super simple... The charger can be based on a constant current regulated output supplied from a high voltage source, (~1,000 V or more) and when plugged in, the charge regulator in the battery management system will tell the charger how many amps it can accept. It won't matter what your cars battery voltage is, the regulator will just send back a pulse width modulated signal telling the charger how much it 'wants'. That would make it, so the charger would be compatible with ANY car, from Any manufacturer, regardless of battery size or rating. NO COMPUTER NECESSARY!!! (except the card reader for billing) That would make it easy for DYI builds to charge at public stations.

What’s with the mustache? Didn’t you get a J1772 free from Tesla. Should have bought the CCS Combo adapter for $175 from Tesla.

It warms my heart to hear that Tesla network is now being opened up to non-Tesla cars. Eventually, the network will be universal and Tesla fanboys will no longer cling to the “we have the best network, therefore you must overlook all other faults” attitude
