You could precondition by telling the Tesla you are going to a nearby Tesla charging station.
Just plug in a Supercharger destination into the Nav. 👍
In many places there are no superchargers to navigate to. I would like a precondition button.
@@jaredlarson2810 an update should be out eventually that will precondition when you are navigating to an EA station
Run the climate control before arriving at the charger, will heat the battery. So I was told.
@@graysonwagner1855 that doesn't sound right. It might heat the battery slightly but less than driving. There's a reason that there's a battery conditioning function when you drive to a charger. If you had the right obd dongle and app you could test but anyway I'm confident that climate control won't hack it
Did you notice the actual tesla ccs adapter suports up to 250kw, the lectron which currently costs more only supports up to 150kw
All that working out has really paid off for you in handling that CCS adapter and plug. Congrats on the new PR. On a more serious note, the charge curve probably wouldn’t allow 250kw at nearly 50% state of charge, but if it were warm you’d definitely get much higher than 98kw. Always amusing and informative videos! 👍🏻
Another great video (love your stuff). For the record... Level 2 chargers are 220 VAC and are not actually chargers, the are called electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) and the "charger" is actually in the car. The Level 2 "charger" that is built into your Model Y is maximum 11 kW (220 V X 48 amp). The function of the "charger" in the car is to convert the AC voltage from the Level 2 EVSE to DC. Level 3 chargers deliver DC current directly to the car, bypassing the car's internal "charger", and they deliver much higher voltages (400V for Teslas and up to 800V for some other vehicles) and much higher amperages. The designation of 150 kW vs 350 kW on the Electrify America chargers has nothing to do with Level 2 vs 3 (both are Level 3 chargers). Rather, the 150 kW vs 350 kW on the Electrify America chargers reflects the max power that can be delivered continuously.
Thanks for the charging lesson.
Good info. Thank you!
@@jeffpicken5057 LMAO!! Some people love sharing information no one cares about, expect themselves. I can get a good night sleep tonight knowing this.
Level 2 would be 240V, not 220V. That’s how you get 11.5 kW when charging at 48A.
@@twoweeledsoto6072 what do you mean “no one cares about”? This is good information for people that don’t understand. Quit being a dick for no reason.
Very informative and good to know 👍.
We have a ton of Volta in my area. Some of them are DC fast chargers, so if you have the CCS adapter , you get 30 minutes free each session.
Your style and sense of humor is entertaining 😊
Thank for the reviews.
A couple of things thoughts. You have to set up a account with Tesla with your credit card just like the other chargers require to simplify the billing part of charging. When are they going to start setting up charging stations like gas stations? That way you just pull up to either side of the charger depending on where your charge port is and be able to charge without backing in or out and just drive out. It would allow a standard charging cable length like a gasoline hose. It was nice of you to clean up the hose storage on the first charger.
I guess they are putting chargers in the way they are to minimize the initial cost of installing them until there are more EVs. Maybe one day we will have chargers with overhead covers, trash cans, air hoses, etc. Gas station design evolved over time to make it easy to fuel up and we are not their yet with electric charging stations.
Thx for the video, I just picked up the Tesla CCS adapter, gotta get out there and give it a try. (phx area as well)
Where did you buy the CCS adapter?
The house blowing up! LMAO!!! That was great. Thanks for the laugh.
Yeah have some Volta chargers where I am and hope they become successful because free is good, but the simplicity of it being compatible with different systems and not having to have an app for each different supplier, typing in stuff etc. is nice. Needs to be convenient like pulling up to any gas station.
I've tried to charge my Model Y at Electrify America twice and it hasn't worked either time. Both times were in Payson. I only tried to use it because it is cheaper and there is a Tesla supercharger in the same parking lot just in case. I've wasted about an hour of time so far. I may try again some day.
Doesn’t the “Schedule” option on your app give you the option to precondition by time of day?
Being stupid is underrated. I, too, am a very successful stupid person.
Love to hear it Jack!
That Volta is always taken. EVgo is ok but also always in use. EA is good when it works but usually has a few down or you have to wait for the EVs with huge batteries to charge.
What exactly does the preconditioning option do for the Tesla options/benefits?
Why doesn't Tesla make a option selection too precondition the battery before hand going to a non Tesla charger ??? Only preconditions when selecting a Tesla Supercharger? Do you think they will make this option available in the future? Great video Idea by the way.
What is the little gizmo on the left side of your Tesla screen? Some sort of MagSafe phone thing?
10:34 your reference game on point lol
Fucking Ben is so funny in his narration!!!!! Please keep these great EV vids coming!!
Curious. What’s under your roof rails ?
All DC fast charging is level 3 level 2 and level 1 are at home AC charging from a 240v connection or 120v connection for level 1
Just started watching this - of more concern to me is Tesla opening up the SC network to non-Tesla vehicles. We can only hope that they have a fantastic strategy for a slow and controlled rollout. If shlit goes downhill, this video may be prescient.
People are already having issues with the short cables at superchargers because of the different charge port locations on other EVs. They're having to take two spots just to charge.
I had the same credit card issue and ended up having to insert the card for it to work
14:15 I don't know why, but I watched this part over and over, and laughed every time! 😂
I wish the official Tesla J1772 adapter had a locking system so we don't need those third party lock rings.
Electrify America may block the charger next to you if you are charging at 350Kw. You should have checked it after you stopped charging. New Jack Mall Tesla chargers are always packed.
In Europe, where I am, Tesla vehicles have only CCS ports on them. ( I think it's European -market law for consumer access). So all fast chargers are accessible. Unless they are chademo, but they are fading out.
Rocking the "What about Mary" Matt Dillon look...
Do a video that talks about the different rates free, Electrify America, Tesla Super Charger. Also navigate to the the supercharger but go to the 3rd party. Your battery will be pre-conditioned for charging.
Dude, you used the "rocket launcher" and I noticed the "double kill" in the background with those poor guys you faked out! Any Halo reference is a win.....your vids are great.
Technically...if we count your experience, more like a triple kill. Just short of a Killtacular!
Always love the explosion memes lol
So many missed opportunities for”that’s what she said” cutaways from The Office 😢
they just upgraded those EA chargers at Arizona Mills, when I visited there before they were using older hardware. looks like they've updated them to the newer hardware
Yea I think they are brand new
@@Gjeebs except for that one that was offline. That’s an old one that was left because it had the CHAdeMO plug, even though it’s had an issue and hasn’t worked in months. Also, Teslas are always coming to that station thinking it’s where they need to be. I think most of them are renters.
I used that Volta charger last weekend when we saw ant man. 👌🏾
Road trip to Anchorage Alaska!
“Getting drunk at the bar, while you car charges” 😂😂
Another great video with usable content. Man, I really don't like the idea of that extra weight while using the CCS adapter. Seems like a lot of undue stress on the Tesla's input area.
I agree
I am Interested to know how you were able get around the ccs support not being installed and still use a ccs charger. seems like lectron might be doing some shady firmware tricks like they did on old one. also as others have noted the tesla one is cheaper and can charge faster.
to be clear, not saying it's a bad product but the price and capability difference are hard to ignore.
It was his friend’s Model 3 that couldn’t charge because it didn’t have CCS support. He switched to the Y and it worked. Older Teslas don’t have CCS support but Tesla has offered to install it for $400 now
So, I am doing a cross-country Road Trip at the end of the month. If I buy just one backup alternative connector, which one do you recommend I get for my Model Y?
I did & think your Telegram account has been hacked as a few minutes after I downloaded the Telegram App & wrote to you I received a notice that I "won" an Apple laptop.
The 2nd Volta charger was probably broken or the cable was cut and stolen. Nothing was “blocked off” and it’s not just a billboard.
That house 🏡 blowing up 😂
Great observation that chargers shouldn't have screens. It's not just a simple point of failure, but the complexity of supporting a screen interface makes the rest of the charger harder to test and validate. I'll bet they were thinking they needed to accommodate cars that might not be in the system and/or users/customers that didn't have their own accounts or connectivity. A mistake.
You should have been able to "pay at the pump" at the EA station with your credit card. No account necessary. As far as creating an EA account, that's really no different than what you have setup with Tesla, is it? Some vehicles have "plug and charge" set up with some networks (don't have a cross-reference, but I know that Ford and EA have this), so it would work just by plugging in without an app, etc to use. Obviously, if you want the discounted rate at EA, you have to have an account and pay a monthly fee, just like Tesla is now doing for non-Tesla vehicles.
Wow Gjeebs, a little patience and understanding for the (possibly novice) elderly and non-tech savvy please. That's why we watch your videos, so we can learn.
Next time you should try plugging the ccs adapter into the charging port and then plug the charging gun into the adapter. It feels easier and more reliable to me.
No. The level 2 is not 150.
Tesla should add manual preconditioning.
Lectron makes great products
Loved this sampling of the charging stations. Thanks for saving me the effort of failing at all these different options.
BTW, Stupid is definitely not an easy path to success, but being lucky is the key to success. You could only be so successful being smart, but you can be super successful if you are lucky, even if stupidity is a big flaw you're born with!🤪
Your state of charge was too high to get 250kw
8:08 im dead
You know what would be cool - two cars same configuration doing the same roadtrip at the same time running at the same speed limits - one takes Tesla chargers only the other one takes Electrify America only see who gets there first.
Man did a video with a full-grown Arizona mo
5:22 ea experience (Enrage America) must have serious strength.
The scruff is scruffing ☺️
Mustache coming in nicely
Bahahaha 8:07 truth!!!
Volta is great.
God tier L2 public charger: Volta. Shitty toxic public charger: Blink (stay miles away from them)

With those adapters, you have what's necessary to make electric cars practical: The ability to pull up to ANY EV charger, and take on 'juice'. That's been my biggest criticism for electric vehicles, is the different kinds of connectors, requiring drivers to find a charger compatible with their cars. There should be a global, or at least, nationwide standard, so ANY car can pull up to ANY station. Just imagine the uproar, if you had to go to Chevron only, if you have a GM car, or, Shell if you have a Ford, or Tesoro, if you have a Dodge, or Phillips 66 if you have a Toyota, or Conoco if you have a Honda...You get the idea. That's NOT the case. Any brand of the right grade of fuel will run in any brand of car. That needs to be the same for electric vehicles. Apps are risky, and too much like "Rube Goldberg". Why can't you just "Pay at the pump" with electric, just the same as you can for gasoline or diesel? Why don't we have a single connector for all EV's? It could be super simple... The charger can be based on a constant current regulated output supplied from a high voltage source, (~1,000 V or more) and when plugged in, the charge regulator in the battery management system will tell the charger how many amps it can accept. It won't matter what your cars battery voltage is, the regulator will just send back a pulse width modulated signal telling the charger how much it 'wants'. That would make it, so the charger would be compatible with ANY car, from Any manufacturer, regardless of battery size or rating. NO COMPUTER NECESSARY!!! (except the card reader for billing) That would make it easy for DYI builds to charge at public stations.
I think this is going to be the future. Too many apps is hard to manage and locks out certain crowds that don’t know how to use them, etc. like, my grandma. It needs to be simple. Also, card swipe systems are ideal instead of apps.
The card reader is the black square ⬛ not the scanner. Lol why do people always ignore that
reading is hard.
The black square is only for reading your digital EA card in your phone’s wallet. For credit cards he was doing it correctly, the credit card readers just suck.
As EV's begin to disrupt the gas taxes collected by states an EV will lose all its perceived advantages when the states begin surcharging (taxing) charging. Also registrations will increase to offset gas tax revenue lost. Then eventually all tax incentives will go away making EV's more expensive.
I have a Mach E and I hate EA. They don’t put enough chargers at stations, they’ll randomly be broken or the speed is capped with no warning in the app, and just recently they have been stopping the charge when my account gets to about $6. Fkn stupid.
12:02 Attention viewers: Be prepared to get the shit scared out of you...in particular if you're listening on a 5.1 surround sound system.
Lectron portable charger is $100 more than the Tesla charger? lol
so funny people thought those ea chargers are tesla superchargers
People are so dumb, it amazes me. How can you own a Tesla and drive up and ask, “duh, aww deez da tethla chawgers!” Do they not know what a supercharger looks like? It says Electrify America on the charger! 🤦🏻♂️
Tesla owners seems be doing EA charging wrong... me coming from EA first, its so easy. All you need is the app, it works 99% of the time. Don't use credit card, tapcard, etc. Just plug it in, swipe to charge at the app.
Lol. This gonna be good ....
What’s with the mustache? Didn’t you get a J1772 free from Tesla. Should have bought the CCS Combo adapter for $175 from Tesla.
yes but then lectron wouldn't have paid him.
iwon phosphwate battwey lmao
It warms my heart to hear that Tesla network is now being opened up to non-Tesla cars. Eventually, the network will be universal and Tesla fanboys will no longer cling to the “we have the best network, therefore you must overlook all other faults” attitude
On today's Tesla Investers forum, Tesla will offer California Tesla owners a flat rate of $30.00 per month for unlimited charging way to go Tesla, This will all be green power!
It’s Texas, not California.
California electric bill going through the roof now. This is an amazing deal if they have it 😂
