That's what this channel is all about brothah! Jody is all about helping others better themselves. He truly believes that and people like you are proof of it
I appreciate all of the content as I am making my way through trade school currently. I have soaked in alot of good helpful knowledge from you that has helped me tremendously and for that I thank you good sir!
Thanks that really helps, my work pushes a non-procedure “procedure” for water pipe with downhand root, one downhand hot/fill pass with 6011 then 7018 cap. I’ve never done downhand before so a lot of my problems are likely skill related, your video made me realize though doing all those passes as one fill pass may be chasing a unicorn.
I hate doing 6010 circles but a lot of people do it I can do it but I prefer the little crescent moons going down hill are like a c type motion, and I while all other positions except uphill I do the upside down t but that’s why I love welding evryone has a different way and you can always change things up great video also I do drag when I can
Andrew, your doppelganger/twin lives in South Africa and is a good friend of mine. You guy's are exact twins, face, build, hare, smile, voice, his name is Andries.
ABom79 recommended you and I can see why. I wish my eyesight was good enough because I really have enjoyed welding from the second time I saw "the puddle". The first time I was like in Junior High and thought I messed up. I look back on it now and recognize that was the first step into something magical.
Hi ya , question ? Ever try a 6010 3g vertical up with DC -- on 3/8 plate 37 deg , 3/32 land and face , I'm not a pro but I'm try to master the 3g position with the help of your videos . I actually switched my Ranger 8 to DC neg and made a root pass vertical up and it seemed to go in really well without any trouble . I'm using Lincoln 5 p 1/8 at 80 amps . Thanks John R.
I’m sure if you translate these video discs into Russian, then many people will want to buy your masterpiece, I love your UA-cam videos I feel sorry for the language I don’t understand.
Hello, I'm a high school student and I'm trying to work on my vertical up t joint more than anything my 6010 root pass and I was wondering if you could do a video about tips for that type of weld.
I help out to fix things when I can or if someone shows me it's always good. Plus I pipe weld making things and its k sometimes I over welded it I need to just leave it alone when it's a nice weld.
I failed a test similar to this. It was a 1/8th 6011 down hill on a tjoint with half in plates. My puddle was no where near consistent and clean like the puddle in this video infact, the puddle was just going everywhere, and I had a bunch of spatter. I ran the rod at 110 amps. I figured to move quickly going down hill but I just ended up with a real cold thin bead. What could I have done wrong?
As a student of welding how are we supposed to practice on all these different machines? I practice 6g at my school in the evenings but they only have one kind of machine.
Lastimosamente no se ingles, trato de ayudarme con traductor google, me gustan sus videos son muy profesionales, de mucha ayuda, espero q algún dia puedan poner subtitulos en español por favor, seria mas practico.
Now here's a question I don't think I've heard answered: other than it's the procedure, what's the reason that 6010 is used as the rod for the root instead of the 7010 or 8010 you usually finish the rest of the pipe with?
Hey Bill, that is a great question. I cant give you a straight answer on that because I honestly don't know for sure. Maybe it has to do with the fact that re-qualifying a procedure takes alot of money. Also, some pipes dont necessarily need to have 7010 or 8010 throughout the whole joint. If you look in Lincolns catalog, they state that both 7010 and 8010 can be used for open root. That is about as good of a guess I can come up with. Hope that helps
A 6010 gives a lower tensile weld metal that is often more ductile, more crack resistant than a 7010 or 8010. When welding pipelines, structures, things likely to move when putting in the first few passes of an open root joint, the roots are subject to a lot more stress than when the weld is filled out, and can crack easily - especially if you use a strong filler. Usign a weaker, more plastic filler, allows the weld to stretch more before it breaks - if at all. It gives you a bit more leeway to work with in the field when keeping everything perfectly still and stress free is just not a reality. Chewing gum vs crunchy lollies if you like. :) It is not until you are 1/3 to 1/2 the way out that a joint starts to be mechanically strong enough to avoid any serious likelyhood of cracking, typically 1/4" and more full circumference/length. The lower strength also helps [a little bit] to avoid hydrogen induced cracking, typically supplying less carbon allowing more crack resistant microstructures to form....or so the theory goes.
So doing my last job I did everything welding labor work cleaning up lifting to workout and I enjoy it. I help out where every I can u know where they pay me.
Everyone who watches your videos should try filming a weld arc, just to get an understanding of how good you are at it.
Jody i cannot tell you how much I have learned from your videos. I went from $16 a hour to $25 a hour because of you and your videos. Thank you.

Valley Tech has produced some great welders and Andrew Cardin is no exception! Great to finally hear a local accent in a welding video 😉

Andrew you are one slick welder 👌
I've met Andrew back on WorldSkills 2015 in São Paulo, Brazil. He's such a good welder and a nice guy! Nice job and success with your business!
Beautiful rod manipulation! I find it hard to have the confidence to move the rod that much but will definitely git it a try.
This video came out with perfect timing! That's what I'm practicing on right now
Fantastic video. I find I get so much better at stick welding with my everlast stick welder after watching and learning from these videos.
Outstanding arc shots and welding Andrew & Jody, thanks for the insight into downhill techniques.

Thanks Jody and Andrew! Wish I'd have had teachers half as good in school.
I learned more by watching Jody's videos than with my teacher.
Very nice weld, thank you Jody and Andrew!

that dvd looks like a wealth of knowledge. thank you
That video demonstrated a lot of good technique. I found that strike and really long arc interesting.
Thanks lot brother for taking your time to teach us a trade
Awesome timing! I just started pre pipe down hill 6010 plates.
Video and commentary = excellent information. THANKS!
Sick welding makes my electrode stand up
Thanks Jody and Andrew !
That dvd series is a great tool. No phone can help like that.

Great video showing technique and arc shots. Also JD's 2019 Fabtech countdown clock at 5:53
Awesome close ups. Could really see the puddles reaction. Very cool. 😄
Awesome video man! I always learn something here!
Some different technics. I'm going to try some of those. Great video guys
Great video guys! Thanks some much for all the time spent!!!
Yay! More stick welding videos!
I was taught to weld 6010 uphill root and 7018 hot and out I had never seen it run downhill before
Nice puddle view, and control over the puddle
I just love how his hands are stable to stay in the beveled edge perfectly all the way thru
Thanks jody for all you do
I past a few of these when I went to western tech. 8 in row
Great video, there's an education in every one of them!

You look great today, too. Great.👍
How do you weld aluminum with electrode? You are the best ones. Please give me an advice because my welding with aluminum is horrendous
I’m a first year student, I’m more impressed he’s doing all of this with one hand
It’s honestly easier once you figure out welding one handed. I am a student as well
Tanks Jody for you videos, good job
I was on hotpass on a 600km 12” job 4mm rod at 200-210 amps it varied
hy from colombia ,excellent video tutorial weld thanks

How does he know where to start with I assume passive lens with that pancake hood? isn't it dark all the time?

The bubble looks suspect, does it not? :):)
Thank you
Are you still planning to make a follow up video on the 7016 rods?
yes sir
weldingtipsandtricks awesome cant wait for it! Keep up the great work man!
Sir, why is 7015 not good for downhill welding?
Teacher, please add movies on dvd Polish subtitles for sure many of us will buy a dvd I put in a fan from Poland
please specify the brand of electrodes that were welded.
I there! That video is awesome! Can i ask you what type of camera you are using?
I can find any input on that in the Welding tips and tricks forum!
Does it matter if i weld from bottom to top? Some ppl told me it's better cuz of rod dust.
I can see this on your camera better then I can through my own hood 🤣
Please tell me can do downhill root weld with rod RD7018? Or 6013?
Hi weldingtipsandtricks! I'm trying to find a heavy duty 3 in 1 (all purpose) welding machine. Thank you...
Hi, where is your academy in the usa? Thank you
Awesome thank you.
Undercut!!! Just kidding Thanks for the awesome video Jody 🙏👊🏻 man Andrew is really a good welder with tons of knowledge same with you Jody.

So the circle technique is basically the back and forth used on the hot pass, with a weave added in, well that's what I get from it anyways.
Any advice please!!
