I have no idea why anyone would want to scrap that. Thank you for saving it.
The same people will ask like 10k for something that needs a lot of love and then threaten to take it to the crusher if it wont bring what they want yet in the end they will get nothing for it is who would scrap it.
@@nou8257Hey this video don’t have anything to do with what I have to say but my sister had a 93 Ford Tempo GL. I offered her $300 she didn’t want to sale it so where she live they slept a sticker on it so she payed $100 to get it off the tow truck. She ask did I still have a friend with a tow truck I said yeah. She let him tow it away said he can crush it to whatever with it.
@@nou8257I ask her later that night whatever happened to her car she said call my friend about oh him $75 for towing a car. I call him up he said what my sister told him to do whatever or I can have the car for $75 so that’s what I paid for it No lie to this day she say I old her $300 for that car 😂😂 she see me fixing on it only thing wrong. Need new shocks new tires. Tuneup is clean on the inside and out no rush. And she hates that I have it
Thank you for saving this truck Wayne!!!
An R model Mack towing a GMC General. That's a hell of a thing. Excellent purchase Wayne! Thanks for sharing.
It was quite a sight
This bloke is a better camera man than what half of the full time UA-camrs have!
😂 it was my first time!
@@DBogodid you guys build that tow truck? That deserves a video itself. Beautiful truck!
The GMC General! My favorite truck of all time?! If you want to see something super rare it’d be the Chevy version of this, the Bison.
They were my favorite also Ron hopefully Wayne will restore it 🙏 😊
@@shellyweiers121 The truck is nice, and would be a good match for a 2 stroke, but it isn't one, so I'm afraid that unless he wants to swap in a 2 stroke, it's an irrelevant flipper. The thing to do is quickly get it functional enough for a buyer to drive it home and flip.
@@shellyweiers121 If the engine was dead, then swapping in a 2 stroke would be practical, but the engine is good, so it isn't, and 4 stroke trucks are OT. Another reason to flip is because the truck is better off in a state that allows that drop axle, including Mexico is necessary.
Those two guys are so cool, they were as pumped as you were. Thanks for saving the old boy
That’s me I’m one of those guys 😂
Hell yea brother, these boys are cool as fuck. We ended up talking shit for like 4 hours.
@@DBogogood work mate, it was great to see cool fcukers unite ❤
Good save and thank you for all the exhaust angles of the first start. I hate when someone does a old start and doesn’t record the exhaust
What a unit man. Crazy how easy it fired up and how much stuff still works on it. Good save from the scrap heap.
Pretty cool old horse
How cool was the Black Mack tow truck, and the great guys hanging out to see it get fired up, great stuff.
24:35 One of us! one of us! One of us!
That R model Mack is SWEET
It really is!
Thank you!!
That Mack wrecker is MINT!
Thanks we have a lot of time into it!
@@BEEZEE1989
It shows! That's one fine truck!
It looks even better in person!
Thank you! It was quite a bit of work to spiff her up
Man, that Mack Wrecker is gorgeous!! What a unit..🤩 ...and speaking of units, I can't believe that 3406 cranked right off after sitting for 20+ years! Actually, when you first popped the hood, I half expected to see a 6-71 or an 8V71 lurking under there. At least it appears to be old enough to not have all the common rail crap that's on Cat motors now. The fan and associated parts should be fairly easy to locate. It would probably be beneficial to roll that cab off of there and drop something nice on it (later model daycab maybe?)
HOW DARE YOU?! gets me every fucking time hahaha
One of Peg's go-to drops. Never not funny.
That mack is a sweetheart
That was the craziest thing I have seen in a long time, the differentials are Eaton 44's, from the quick look of the front diff on the right side the 2 speed shift motor opening had a block off plate on it. So you have a couple possibilities, a single speed in a 2 speed housing or a 2 speed locked in low, but they are 44,000 # axles. The front diff is the early 44 with the small round oil pump on the power divider, it may have a broken interaxle differential or broken output shaft.
One beauty towing another so cool
Dude these guys and that truck are mint
They're really good dudes
Aww thanks
That R Model Wrecker 👀👀👀👀
I remember seeing this truck and pup all the time.
I love the old Mack heavy wrecker!!!
Me too!
Glad you made new friends as well!
That's my favorite part
I'm with you on the side terminal thing. A connection the world didn't need. Love the stream of smoke rings when she started.
I think I can remember seeing that truck running the roads in upstate New York many years ago
Our 5 year eager beaver trailer breaks lock up if it sits through a rainy day in the summer… and this thing runs and drives. Where has this world come to. Amazing 🙌🏽
I have the same truck but with an 8v92 detroit w/13spd
The one guy says “It doesn’t just run, it runs good!” :) All the years of suffering with junk, the universe pays you back!
What an absolute steal!! Those 2 tow boys were fantastic. Could have just dumped the GMC and run but instead mucked in and got involved. Obviously damn good people!!!
Really good guys I hope our shenanigans can continue
Oh yeah....smokey and the bandit tribute truck com'on
That pice on the rear looks like the thing zip ties took apart on the street sweeper
I remember that truck on the roads in northern Washington County back in the day. Never forget a General! See you at Ballston Spa in a few weeks.
Hell yea brother
Bibeau heated dump body, good score. They last one I used had a single chamber brake canister to release and lock the gate. A buddy of mine stole the idea for his truck and put a parking brake canister on his so if an air line broke the gate wouldn't pop
Doggy is wearing the cone of shame, what happened to doggy?
That is a sweet looking Mack R-model tow truck.
Love the cameo appearance by Greta "fun police" Thunberg! 😂
Oh, that's some nice floor pans in the General. Custom air conditioned versions.
Amazing that so much of that old dump truck is still in working condition.
Yes, the GMC General and Astro were very cool trucks back in the 70's and 80's.
He just had a hot spot he kept licking he's fine
Wow that mack wrecker is sick!!!
That Mack wrecker is sick!
The reference to the Step Brothers movie had me shoot beer out my nose and the rest of that visit by the Towie dudes had me in stitches, you lot were the oldest 10 year olds I’ve ever seen, so cool. Awesome R model Mack and your new dump truck is the score of the year, thanks Wayne great vid.
Thanks man!
The step brothers reference is how the whole thing felt 😂
Lol totally
Awesome save on this truck.
I love the multiple camera angles for the……..holy shit I can’t believe it actually just started right up moment! 🤣
My first rig had a B model under the hood. Fantastic engines. Simple, reliable and make a wonderful noise. Not surprise at all she kicked over. Awesome score, glad you were able to save her. And even if the rest of her is junk, a clean running B model is worth well more than you paid.
This old sweetheart wasnt ready for the grave! She wants to live! Cant believe how easy of a fire up, how many things work!!
What an amazing find. Please restore that machine to its former glory. It was a sign when it started up that quick. That's gonna be a fun project!
The engine works..
Cool, now this truck need a complete restoration.
Ever since Smokey and the Bandit 2 I’ve had a weird soft spot for Generals. Seemed to have a nice cab for their day. Quad headlight 5 star Generals could be had loaded up with power windows and locks. What a sweet score Wayne!
Nice R model Mack wrecker. I like all the smoke rings when you started the General.
Smoke rings are awesome
I like 2 strokes too, but a 3406b is probably the greatest engine in it's class, EVER! Dont forget the 3408 3412 as well! Cheers Wayne.
Wayne thank you for the content; and thank you for not making powerwashing old junk part of your content ! I agree with your position on the matter.
If you wanna see shit get cleaned up go hang out at the car wash! Lol
Awesome General!! Was surprised to see a Cat for power. What a cool dump truck! Love GM trucks and Peterbilts! That Mack wrecker is awesome, too! GMC and Chevrolet made some cool big trucks. What's cool is Paccar headquarters is located about 75 miles from me! Glad to see a General saved from the scrappers!
Love the dump truck to good for scrap I'm a big cat fan everything cat is awesome
Glad Gretta showed up for this
Love the adventure you just went on I love finding old shit and making it bad ass again keep up the great work .
Very nice general. And the Mack that delivered it is awesome
Thank you that’s my Mack!
This truck was worth saving for sure. Great motor and a lot of stuff working considering how long it sat! Can’t wait to see more!
Now thats what im talin about❤❤❤❤ happy veterans day wayne
Hell yea 🤟🤟
That cat wanted to live again. Great save
Truck of my dreams
I always thought they were some of the sharpest looking trucks of their day, I hate that most of them rotted away in the weeds or turned to shredder metal. Hopefully you can get it fixed up Wayne 🤘🏼
Sometimes it's entertaining and educational to watch a guy be compelled to beat on something for hours in a Will It Run, spending time and cash, sending the injector pump to Area Diesel Service for a rebuild, etc. In this case, it was gratifying to know you not only saved this gal from being shredded and sent to the chicoms but that it fired up almost effortlessly. Good on ya, Wayne. Nice way to start off the long weekend.
Part of it is its previous owner had the foresight to properly treat the fuel so it wouldn't break down and attract water. Power Service makes excellent fuel additives used them for years from on the farm to 18 wheelers.
I love those old GMC GENERALS , and the Bibeau body is a heated dump on that
A diamond in the rough bro
It really is!
Get some moons on that wrecker!
Rock it Barb!!!
What a treat to have witnessed such an event! I'm so sad that she's going to be taken apart. Would make an awesome resto project for someone looking for one. I remember the General commercials on the tube. I love the dash features too!
Those guys are good guys! Love that Mack!
Big SCORE! What a deal!
I thought the same thing about the chain! LMAFO!!!
That's super rare having a Cat motor, usually a Detroit Diesel or a Cummins this is the third General I've seen with a Cat.
Indeed!
Wow right from the scrap yard and it just starts up🎉
that old mack model R wrecker is gorgeous. i am a truck driver myself and i appreciate your video. once in my career i once drove an old mack model R 6 wheeler dump truck
Yea the boys did a great job on it
Nice catch! Need 3 small gates in the tailgate to do asphalt work. Be nice straight piped. Got a chubby on the black Mack wrecker!
3406B alone will get your money back....That ol'girl fired up... that's a CAT 3406 for you... Diesels are so so durable
The generals are my favorite trucks ever built. Thanks for saving it.
Awesome!! Hope you can snag one at some point, old trucks are fun!
@@Ol2Stroker maybe one day! My dream is to get one, stretch it, then mold a 70s era aero stream camper onto the back of it and make it into a traveling rv/ toy hauler
@@MintMonte87ACSS312 that'd be super cool
This was a big time treat! Grew up in a mack green 85 GMC with a 350cummins, 8LL long bodied roll off down here in Westchester. Thanks for the memories!👌🏽🍻
That’s funny, I thought I clicked on the Smokey and the bandit for a minute there.
Guess what we're working on....junk . lol 😂😂 nah I'm pickin bud. Love your content bubba.
Excellent save, piece of history right there😊
Described perfectly. Too good to scrap, but not good enough to make road worthy. Definitely an excellent save.
couldn't happen to a better "Tuber" I know I come fer the 2 stroke luvin but yellow mechanical stuff sounds just as nice to me! Sure hope ya adder to the ATHS collection! Cheers from Santa Cruz CA Wayne!
adding Greta was hilarious
Your fan club is growing........and people who you never heard of are finding good stuff for projects . Whoever tipped you to this fairly late model GMC deserves a KISS ! When you first discovered the dash switch for the 8LL transmission, it was like the deep reduction switch on my 9500 with 915 Filler. Nice that your tow crew buddies stuck around to help explain some of the unique advancements by GMC ........including the cables for top stud sealed batteries. that came out in the late '60s . I thought you might upgrade dumps from your Brockway . One of the best gifts you could imagine when you got this tip !
GMC and caterpillar what a combination they are the best
Ol’ 2 stroker is what the missus calls me😆🤣😂
How do you think I got the name?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You got one fuck of a deal! Awesome Wayne
I’ll be damned, that old Jimmy still has miles left in it yet! I recall the guy posted it on the GMC FB page and the admins thinking it was a scam..
Lol yea that's where I saw it! Turns out it wasn't a scam!
@@Ol2Stroker it’s a little rough around the edges, but man…I’ve seen far worse being pampered! Those Generals are getting harder to come by…have you determined if that Caterpillar is a factory installation or a replacement for a Cummins or Detroit?
@@bowslap I haven't determined that yet.
I see what you did with the intro, simply stupendous
Thanks man!
Always look forward to your vids! Always entertaining!
What a find! Congratulations!
Quite a find ,definitely a work project !
Awesome show Wayne thanks
Keep the ole girl going!!!
Sweet ride you got there and tat old cat just purrs away. It's been a while since I have seen a old General my uncles neighbor had one he used in the field to haul the corn he had a General and a old 70's Astro
Chains ⛓️ for the gate Brother. Awesome Find . Glad you saved the truck.
Chances were pretty good it’s a Caterpillar 👍
Man she chooches! Sick score on the old iron, she could be put to work no problem.
Great video Wayne nice running Cat engine. Interesting dump truck for whatever you want to do with it. Thanks for sharing stay safe Wayne.
Fort Ann it must have an interesting history
This is a great video I felt I was right there nice job Wayne!
Bruh that's old school angry truck sound
Cool truck
Looks like an Astro95 passenger door!👌
This truck is giving me some Duel Peterbilt vibes...
What a gorgeous unit!! Them old kitty cats are more then reliable and it’s perfect for that ol gmc
