Ain't that the truth? I just saw a bull nose F350 with a pumper body on it on Marketplace that went for crazy cheap. It was an '86 4x4, 460 5-Speed, dualies, with ridiculously low 37,000 miles on it, taken care of its whole life like you said. The crazy part? $3000. It sold "right now"! Probably could have sold the fire truck body and made your money back!

Everytime I watch one of your videos it brings back memories of my Uncle Jerry and that 9500 short hood with a 671 that he hauled rock with. My uncle Jerry was a diesel mechanic all of his life learning from being in the Army as a mechanic and he could run the rack on a Detroit in his sleep. I helped him at his shop that him and my Dad co owned for a while until they were bought out then my uncle went to work for Waste Management working on all types of machinery. RIP Uncle Jerry I sure miss you.

I hope you kept this engine. What a deal getting the trans with it. Hardly smoked, sounds mean. I remember the fire truck in my atea years ago had a detroit in it. That fire truck was so loud it would rattle the windows at night when it would take off. Every week the leather mill alarms would go off or it was the bar next to them. Childhood memories. It would wake me up and I remember just sitting near the window watching the firefighters work while listening to the detroit noise. Always loved the sound.

Love the TERM ( your wifes excavator)😊
That is great 👍😊 understand how contractor are using these mini excavator for work. Saves a ton of shoel work
( Mexican dragline) as my friends DAD use to say, having cable run dozers. He worked in WW-2 on the Alaska Military Highway, then came back home and started his own business. My friend DAD took a totalled Ladder truck from a rail car. Rebuilding it. With a ( 8V-71) power
Turned it into a working Fire Ladder truck 🚒 for years of service in volunteer FD by SeaTac Airport protection of the Highrise Hotels popping up around the airport. Great looking open cab Ladder truck. My friend DAD retired and did rebuild of old vehicles. A WW-2 Jeep and a suicide door Lincoln were just some of his restoration
My friend still has the FIRST FD engine that the Department had, its all primered out, but he doesn't know what to do further. Its a heavy duty chevy 1 ton thats bare bones, has all the crome parts inside cab. Just no one to rebuild it for him. I can't do it, with all the things I work on on my 1971 SeaGrave Fire Engine 🚒. I don't have the know how to rebuild this old chevy truck. Needs brakes redone, some engine. I told him get a trailer and tow it in parade as is, just to keep it. My friend is thinking of taking it ro are local wrecking yard, the owner has old FD engines and Ladders he displays in a grassy field. The owner of wrecking yard will not cut up FD engines he gets. I Love taking my (8V-71
Detroit Diesel to his Friday night old car & truck events. Let KIDS get in the cab of my SeaGrave. Most of the old car owners wouldn't let kids get in vehicle. I let the kids push the water valve handles on pump panal all they want to 😊😊😊

I had the same setup in an Silver Eagle Tour Bus except I think the fire truck versions were turned up more. The 740 transmission seemed to have wide gear spacing so most drivers would manually shift them to hold each gear longer when the bus was fully loaded. Once you had that old bitch wound up on the interstate it was sweet. I used to drive it with the little toll window on it rolled down just so I could hear it scream. 👍for the content.

No clue, just equipped with a saws-all. Yep, cut it all, let the next poor guy figure it all out. My guess is that when they lifted the engine and tranny out of the fire truck chassis, a chain or strap let go or the tranny got snagged on something and then let go and the motor took a nose dive and the fan took the hit. Fire trucks typically are low mileage vehicles, but get lots of years on them and the engine idles or runs the PTO a whole lot. There is usually not a lot of highway running, just stop and start and low speed driving. Now I'm not a real detective, it's just speculation, but I did watch Law and Order. 😁

I know I wasnt there but there surely more to this story to have made you so annoyed. Some of the complete clowns I've dealt with over the years buying thing over the internet or in the old days the paper. I taveled 200 miles to pick up a boat only to find out the pictures he sent were of a completely different boat. A lot of the fire truck engines were rated at 500-550HP. And they'll tune to 600+ with ease.

Maybe they dropped the engine on it's side while removing it and it landed on the fan blades. Hard to believe it would have sustained that kind of damage while still being in the fire truck. Runs anyway, excellent! Another 2 stroke saved.
