    "Why don't you get off your couch and go sailing instead of complaining" 😂😂😂 ❤❤❤ Voted best UA-cam comment of the year.
    Very nice boat but it reminded me a cross over between Boreal (hard chime, doghouse) and a Garcia (twin rudders, semi island forward birth, etc) with an interior modem like in Ovni. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
    All these french boats and yards are making me want to move to France's Atlantic coast. Peut être je pouvais déménager à Bretagne ou Normandie quand je prendrai ma retraite.

      Brittany is very beautiful with some great sailing, although it has a reputation for being difficult to access some anchorages unless you have a shallow draft. I totally agree the Iroise 48 being akin to a cross between a Boreal and a Garcia. An Ovni interior is a great thing too.

The line management layout in the cockpit looks great, esp the centerline placement of the winches. Is there a downside to that config that I'm not thinking of? Love the dual heat system, as the hot air warms things up quickly. One small thing I noticed was the cockpit drains looked on the small side but that could be the video view perception.     Thank you for the rare find, interesting boat no doubt ;
    with many good ideas ( though too big for my singlehanded cruises )
    but i find again a deal breaker as for the Ovni or RM...
    and that is that steering the boat sitting, one can not see the in front of the boat !
    i understand that many cruisers don't like to drive anymore
    and ex racers prefer to steer standing, but then not for long
    so if you like to steer your boat for a long time ( yes it is satisfying, and sometime necessary )
    and if you care about not running into logs or fishpots, or even just to see the waves,
    then you can't !
    strange habit for an architect to make a boat with no visibility in front while steering !

    • @donaldvanvliet9039
      @donaldvanvliet9039 Місяць тому +2

      There is visibility up front while steering, if you stand up (as you said), or sitting down sideways against the lifelines with the wheel between your legs. The idea that you have to have the sort of visibility you’re describing whilst sitting down looking forward, and this from an aft cockpit, be it with single or twin rudders, doesn’t exist in most boats, certainly not with deckhouses or dodgers in the way.

    If you ever get to visit the shipyard, would you please be able to ask them about the painting process versus no painting and what it implies in terms of maintenance? I understand that the natural oxidation of the aluminium provides an extra super strong layer which looks quite dirty over time but it is natural to aluminium. I am wondering if over time oxidation still occurs under the paintjob to the point where the paintjob would have to be redone entirely. So I am guessing that in terms of maintenance, maybe the boat owners need to have the boat sanded and repainted over... every 5 or 10 years maybe?
    I am also wondering about material compatibility. Typically the chain compartment at the bow is made of aluminium but the actual chain is going to be made of either stainless steel, low carbon steel or hot dip galvanised steel which I guess is the only compatible chain material really. If you look at the Nobility chart of the most common metals, Galvanised (Zinc) and Magnesium are the least noble metals just below Aluminium while Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel ranks higher than Aluminium. You definitely don't want these two metals in your aluminium chain compartment. If you add to that the corrosive element of salt water, these types of compartments could be compromised as far as the natural deterioration of metal to metal goes. I am wondering if this compartment should be isolated so the chain is never in contact with the aluminium. If you ever get to meet the people at the shipyard, I would be curious to hear their overall recommendations when it comes to metal nobility. It seems to me little details like these who are not necessarily expensive modifications can make aluminium boats last much longer which is what we all want ultimately: low maintenance boats.
    The twin keel is such an odd choice though to replace the centerboard... Are these retractable keels? I am quite curious about their construction, I would not want twin keels if they are not retractable or if they don't have their own bulkhead at the very least. It seems like a great design for sailing but a little questionable on the safety front. You could literally rip the aluminium hull apart hitting something on these keels. Lots of questions but it is good to know there are more and more options in aluminium boats. Thank you for this nice discovery🙂👍

    • @SVTONICBoatWives
      @SVTONICBoatWives  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for your comment! We will take all your questions and queries to the shipyard when we do a factory tour - from visits to other boatyards we know that the chain locker is lined with nylon or plastic to avoid the issue with the different metals. As for the paint, it is a maintenance job that needs to be redone so a lot of people opt for a wrap which seems to last longer. The best option is bare aluminium for longevity, however.

    I am taking this is the Iroise 48 model (as per Mer d'Iroise) by Naval Architect Pierre Delion, or did you say it is a custom version of the Iroise? I absolutely love the exterior design, the interior is great too except for the sharp angle of the fridge, I would definitely add something in there to prevent severe concussion, broken hand or arm should someone trip over. It is a pretty big hazard off shore and a minor fix. In building codes around the World, sharp angles are usually an absolute no go in trafficable areas, on a moving boat, it should be banned from all design.

    Twin Keel at least offers Twin Rudder protection, but hints of a flat hull between the Chines with the below Cabin Sole shot, confirmed with the exterior beached video, confirming this boat is going to be a very uncomfortable Offshore Slammer, and extremely unpleasant to be on when - not if - this boat is pushed hard, So I would not call this a Bluewater or Cruising, or Voyaging Sailboat frankly. If the Owner can manage to restrain his Racing impulses. Then it may be a reasonably Manageable Sailboat, but it will never, in my honesty opinion, be a Comfortable one to be on. The large Sink, below was nice, but how anyone can cope with that Linear Galley on Such a Sailboat on Passage, other than microwaving everything, is beyond me. I’ve been on my ear too many times with Linear Galleys to ever have one again.😅 Best Wishes. Bob.👍🌟🌟🌟❤️⛵️

    First impressions from the exterior- below deck likely very nice, so saving it as a Treat after this post - Rough Coarse Sandpaper non slip - awful for bare feet and knees- no in Mast Furling, confirming Racing Addiction, which leads to my biggest concern- From the shots of Aft, this looks like a flat between The Chines Surfboard “Slammer” with no sea kindly below the waterline hull Design - exactly the kind of Wide Beamed Lady K Sailing was complaining bitterly about when the Heeling Angle is pushed to extremes by Racers like Tim - experiencing real problems when the Bow angle is as horizontal as the water. This boat looks to be a dead ringer for the Sailboat Tim tested- unfortunately he didn’t name the boatbuilder. Frankly, this is not a Sailboat I would like to cross Oceans on, at least until I have solid Confirmation of the heeling angle being encouraged to be small due to excellent below the Waterline hull design - See Umberto Felci Hull designs for Dufour to see what I am getting at, and which tend to have a maximum heeling Angle of 18 degrees in all sea states. Sadly, I think Racing has screwed this Sailboat up for him. Ooh another example of wide beamed hulls, that workWell and comfortably in Rough Conditions are the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey DS Range, with even the smallest model being pretty good.If it wasn’t for the replacement window Glazing supply issue being such a pita, I’d have been very interested in the 44 DS tbh. I wouldn’t like to see the expression on the Face of the Owner of this Sailboat when mid Ocean, and pushing things hard and as a Racer, like Tim is, they just can’t help pushing things hard, then suddenly, it has been pushed too hard, and no in Mast Furling to depower the Main Fast enough probably not helped by a non Furling Spinnaker or Code Sail as well ? God save us from Sailboat Racers influencing Boat Design. Yeah I know, that will spark a lot of hostile comments and Vitriol, But I have a thick Skin, given Sailboat Racing Tragedies Continue to keep happening - See Tim of Lady K on the 2015 Tragedy in the USA, but Tim just loves his Sailboat Racing, and just will not admit it the very bad habits that Racers like him acquire from Racing. So bring it. Bob who walked away Fast from Sailboat Racing, after the inexcusable 1979 Fastnet Race Tragedy. I 2015, that tragedy happened because Sailboat Racing Clubs called the Organisers Cowawards for Scratching the Race due to the Severe incoming Storm , so the Organisers went ahead with it, and people Died as a Result. That tells you everything you need to know about Sailboat Racers and why inexcusably, Sailboat Racing Tragedies, are Continuing to Happen. The irresponsibility is simply Breathtaking. 🤔

      Re the rudders and hull Chines I suggest you view
      and listen to a Norwegian Sailing with Thomas global solo sailor, master captain, ex pro racer and Nowegian Lifeboat rescue captain ... On the whole modern versus traditional hull design argument. ua-cam.com/video/aP6m9I1vVuE/v-deo.htmlsi=qT7m9v_S3fa2kNsG
      I like the hull design and the fact it's a bilge Keeler that can dry out and cope with big tidal ranges and still get relatively close in shore.
      Using giant bamboo for the trim is great as it reaches full harvesting size in 2yrs and grows up to a meter a day, once established converting Carbon dioxide into a strong replaceable wood product at a rate that's only equaled by giant kelp.
      Interesting tailored boat ... for higher and mid latitudes sailing... and longterm ownership...

      @brownnoise357 Місяць тому

      @clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 I have interacted with Thomas for literally years now, and on Hull Design and Rudders, his Comments sorry just don't make Sense. If they did the Designs of Umberto Felci and others just wouldn't work would they but they Do Work and they don't just work, they Work well, and Toby Young, the Yachting World Tester when Sailing a Wide Beamed Single Rudder Dufour Sailboat, Would not be saying how nice it was to be Sailing a Single Rudder Sailboat once again, which is the closest Toby can get, in my honest opinion, to Criticising Twin Rudders, because for a Journalist Tester, to Criticise a Boatbuilders products in Print, is the KISS of Death for getting Producer advertising Revenue, and Trips to Exotic places to Test, and write about their Products. That is the Real World journalists now live in Sadly, and if Thomas was Right, Products proving him, and Tim of Lady K Wrong, simply couldn't exist could they and the Question therefore continues to be - is it sensible to have two unprotected appendages dangling from the Back of a Sailboat Hull ? and for me, the answer clearly is no, it isn't, and the further question is - Does it make sense to have a Flat Hull Section between the Chines, which sits on the Water, rather than in it like a Surfboard ? and to me, that doesn't make any sense either, and especially not if you want cross Oceans and Anchor in Comfort. You are free to Disagree, ut I know what works for me and others who Cruise, and take their Boats on Voyages across Oceans. To be fair, you don't actually have to Sail very far, or for very long, to discover what actually Works well for you. A 1980's Test Sail in the Irish Sea, of a Prout Catamaran, was enough to emphatically tell me that Catamarans just weren't for me, si ply with what happened to the boat motion when the Hulls Connected with 5 feet high vertical Faced Waves, that are extremely Common there just like such waves are in many places around the World. However there are now Two Manufacturers now, that have Fully Tamed that Motion - Nautitech and Catana, and one that has probably Tamed it enough - Leopard. There may be others, but I am not exactly looking for them, but there are issues even with those, as Igor Stropnik has pointed out with asking the Manufacturers for clear instructions on how the hell to Sail Them Properly Downwind ? Only Guessing and not actually interested in Testing, but the problem may be caused by having a too Tall Mast, combined with a Boom that is too long, causing a Wind Shading Effect with the Headsails. Easy Fix, Ditch the Classic Slab Reefing Mast with very long Booms, and replace with a Much Shorter Mast and Shorter Boom, with in Mast Furling. this also removes the Man Sail Handling problem of having to Climb up o to the Cabin top when making major changes, along with dramatically reducing the Wind Shading effects when Sailing Downwind. Apparently the only reason Classic Masts are used, is because their Main Sails look "Prettier". I don't see me EVER Buying a Catamaran, won't be Testing for improvements for them, so frankly I Could Care less either way, as I will be Sticking with Shallow Draft Monohulla, with Low Air Draft Mast heights, with in Mast Furling. in Boom Furling Can work, but the biggest pita with those is preventing the build up of Salt and Bird Shit getting into them and clogging things up. withnin Mast Furling, a hose pipe flushes the Crap and it falls out around the Mast step, and regular application of polish to the base of the Mast should prevent Mast Rot and Cracking. Best Marine Silicon Polish means republish about once every ten years. 🤔 Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟⛵️

      @clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 PS. Bear in mind Sailboat Racing has a very strong Tendency to Drum Really Bad Habits and very weird perspectives into the Heads of Sailboat Racers. Tim of Lady K Sailing Channel is a Typical example, along with being a Really nice guy. But Tim's Whole perspective on Sailing, comes through Sailboat Racing eyes, and like with Thomas, can seriously Prejudice perspectives with heavy Bias, and is clearly visible and is in your face and unmissable so, such as with the Club Members attitude in the 2015 Alabama Sailboat Tragedy, when those Sailboat Racing Club Members heaped Vitriol and insults on the Race Otganisers for having the Temerity to Cancel the Race due to the forecast of a Severe Storm arriving shortly, so the Organisers Relented , the Race went ahead, and People DIED. The Sailboat Racing Tragedies just Keep on Coming Don't they and that is down entirely to the Worse than Juvenile irresponsible Attitude of the Sailboat Racing Community ISN'T THAT SO ! I have not seen Any improvement in that attitude since I turned my back on Sailboat Racing, a d walked away at a Brisk Pace, after the 1979 Fastnet Race Tragedy. Yet Today, I am Still having to overcome the bloody Stupid Negative impacts Sailboat Racing is still having on the Design and Construction of Sailboats. @ I answered this more than adequately, but my reply has been disappeared and not by me.Suffice it to say, if Thomas was right, and he isn’t, then Dufour Not Doing what Thomas Claims wouldn’t be anything like as Successful with good handling Comfortable Sailboats to Cross Oceans on Would they ?My only Gripe with Dufour is their Shoal Draft Keels aren’t nearly Shallow enough, hence my interest has Shifted to Catalina,who Consider MarsKeel Custom Keels to be a Standard Option, so there is a good chance that I can have a One Off Design done with about a 4 foot 6 inch for the 2025 Catalina 426, and just maybe, the 446. A Selden Low Air Draft Mast with in Mast Furling, for any model shouldn’t be any problem.Still waiting for a Catalina Agent to get back to me. @ Kelp benefits from having about 140 times more CO2 Content in the Oceans, with far too much locked away there, out of Reach of Life and Biodiversity.Bamboo, however, along with all other non Desert Variety Plants Suffers from the Resulting Serious CO2 Content Shortage in the Atmosphere The non Desert Variety Plants, are attempting to compensate by increasing their Water Jptake, but this weakens them and leaves them vulnerable to insect attacks and Plant Diseases. I discovered this while Compiling the Data to write a Paper for the UK Parliament Science and Technology to Debunk the Outrageous Attempted Ocean Acidification Fraud, which was attempting to extract vast amounts of Public Money from them.The Fully Compliant with the Scientific Method of Empiricism Paper, was fully Sourced and hyperlinked to relevant Facts, so impressed the Committee, that the hair an asked for, and received, my Permission to Publish it and - I Don’t Think the Sords “Ocean Acidification “ have been mentioned in Parliament Since.Mars Atmosphere Research since then, has pretty much confirmed everything in my Paper, and has raised some very interesting points which indicate just how important having a very healthy Surplus of CO2 Content in the Atmosphere might be, if Combined with Vigorous Plant Growth with highly active Photosynthesis, then that may actively work to Prevent a Runaway Greenhouse Effect! An odd confirmation of that being so, is the conditions Hypothesised are a perfect match with Conditions during the Time of the Dinosaurs and - there was no Runaway Greenhouse Effect. Everything I have stated, is remarkably simple for any Real Scientists to Confirm 🤔 So why are we wasting so much time and money, on Barking Jp an absolute Forest of Wrong Trees and none to any good effect ? In Fact if we keep pursuing this Net Zero insanity, there is a real probability that the present Serious Shortage, could be turned into a Critical Shortage, and I would dearly love for a Real Scientist to Prove me Wrong, but The Sest just doesn’t appear to have any Real,Scientists Left at all ? I'm curious about your strident opinion, that this boat is crappy compared to the Garcias. Have you seen both of them up close? Have you owned either of them? It's always a good idea to have deep knowledge before providing strong opinions. 🙂
