Great episode. Rhaenyra lying on the memory of her dead mother really showed me she's not this innocent little girl, she can be just as devious as everyone else. Things are really about to hit the fan!

Everyone at court is devious. They have to be or they won't survive. We learned that lesson with the first show. Look at how well being a good person worked for Ned Stark and his family. You play the game or die.
I love how Daemon was so badass last week, so mature and wise at the start of this week's episode... before very quickly going back to being drunk Daemon that we were first introduced to. Typical alcoholic 😂

I do not think that the tea scene shows Viserys's distrust, it actually shows that he knows that she has been besmirched by someone or the other and it is his love for her that keeps her as the heir and hence the tea, to make sure she is okay.
And he’s also like “hint hint” if you wanna do what you want, then know there are things you can use to “take care” of the after effects.
This was definitely more of a I don't trust you or or lie of the story so he makes sure she has it so they're both not fucked

This made me laughed so hard 🤣
The final scene between Viserys and Rhaenyra was awesome. Viserys says, "The truth doesn't really matter. Only perception." Then Rhaenyra talks about the double standards between males and females when it comes to having sex. Viserys goes, "YOU are my political headache!"
I'm going to miss Paddy and Milly once they exit this show. Viserys really stood out again for me. Soft king? Sure. But good man and also a complicated one. Let's be real, Daemon and Rhaenyra do act like reckless brats and Viserys is juggling parenting between them.
If you watch Cobra Kai, Viserys is a lot like Amanda LaRusso. The only sane person in the show. The only one who acts like an adult and is trying to avoid conflict. But Daemon and Rhaenyra are rebels. They want excitement and drama. This will only lead to bloodshed.

The bloodshed starts when the greens take her throne. I wish I had waited to watch this series when it ends like I did with game of thrones. Waiting years for the finale is gonna suck
When you take out all the garnishes and distractions, this whole episode is Daemon (and his girlfriend) executing their plan to remove Otto from power. He returns and uncharacteristically is humble and obedient to the King. Shows his hand a bit with a long stare at Otto in this scene. He then takes advantage Rhaenyra by triggering her teenage rebellious side. Daemon removes her beanie the moment they reach the brothel and he does a lot for people to see but doesn't actually do it because "perception is all that matters". The misinformation propaganda finds it's way to Otto and he takes the bait causing the King to have to choose sides between Otto and his daughter. Now Daemon's dream job of "King's right hand man" is open for Daemon to slip into, not right now, but in the future.

I may be wrong , but i took the white worm to Otto message as Daemon and White Worm working together , as in Daemon wanting Otto to know , Knowing full well he was going to tell the King , and that is why He did not have sex with her , the whole thing was a ruse to get Otto out .

Surely Daemon's motivation for taking Rhaenyra to the pleasure house, no doubt being aware of the spies, was the hope that the information got back to the King, thinking his daughter "sullied" the King may have been more open to Daemon's marriage proposal.

No one's a weirdo. Many monarchies used to marry their close family to keep the bloodline pure. The Targaryens are just based on many real-world ancient dynasties. (Even modern day royalty are many times related. Prince Philip was Queen Elizabeth's third cousin) Sorry if actual history offends you. As for the rest of the debauchery on screen; That's also based on actual history. Once an empire/civilisation became so degenerate that illicit sex and violence became the norm and the foundation for their society, that society without fail would collapse. So the debauchery you see on the streets of kings landing is just the author showing that this kind of civilisation can not endure and is close to crumbling. As for the Targaryens, they're just keeping it pure as many in history did. People need to stop applying their modern-day sensitivities to historical fantasy.

I think Daemon is a misunderstood character. the plan to take Rhaenyra to the br0thels was to let her know that 'marriage isn't all bad sometimes' as they shows us another perspective from Alicent to keeps us being objective. I think it's not his intention to actually 'harm' Rhaenyra for his brother's rage.
I mean, the last episode shows us he actually seen Rhaenyra 'differently' (if you pay attention on the way he's seen Rhaenyra from eps. 2-4) he knew she caught his eyes 'differently' and it's not for a bad intention.
for Rhaenyra, we knew she's been lusting him for a while. the way she knew Caraxes went to King's Landing, letting her know that Daemon is there. so what's about the smile? even the Weirwood scene shows us that Rhaenyra close her eyes as it was Daemon is about to kiss her. (imo it's still gross, but this is Targaryen).
the br0thel scene is kinda like a statement that Daemon probably realized, he sorta catching feelings? kinda like he-wasn't-sure-about-his-feelings-either? it took me back to Dany-Jon scene after he learned his lineage. Jon kinda backed down, just like Daemon did. maybe because they both thought it seems so wrong? Jon grew up as a Stark-Daemon grew up with Rhaenyra. even though they knew they're Targaryen, it still messes their heads up.
Daemon lied about him and Rhaenyra being together is probably because he knew he actually wants her after last night. since he told Viserys "when I offered up my crown, you said I could have anything. I want Rhaenyra, wed her to me." but Viserys was so blinded by Otto's projection on Daemon + Daemon's behavior kinda prove Otto was right. it's hard for Viserys to trust him either he truly wants Rhaenyra/the Throne when he ask Viserys for taking Rhaenyra as a wife. but it seems to me that Daemon genuinely wants her not for her Throne.
Viserys didn't respond a solid 'no' he only say: "you already have a wife" so Daemon might took it as, if he had no wife then he could wed her? then you see Lady Rhea fell from a horse back for the next episode. kinda interesting to see what happen since Daemon 'knew' Laenor Velaryon (not only by reputation). I mean I ship Ser Criston and Rhaenyra and eps.4 makes me happy. but I know what's gonna happen so I managed not too crazy about it.
He only took her to get outed in public, that's why he pulled her scarf off. 🤣

the complexity of Daemon and Viserys relationship is amazing but I have no doubt that Daemon loves his brother and willing to protect him. he gave Rhaenyra the necklace even before she became the heir, she gave the eggs back in front of Otto and the guards. which he knew it'll strength her position as a Queen because Otto will sees her true ability. so it seems to me that he's feelings towards Rhaenyra is genuine. I think he has no desire to take the Throne from her, he just wanted the Targaryen to be feared like his ancestors.
so from the last eps., I think Daemon started to acknowledge his feelings towards Rhaenyra. you can see the way he sees her. but of course, I could be wrong. it's game of thrones after all, everything's possible.
I agree with most what you wrote, safe for the reason he backed out last minute. I think it was a sudden moment of realisation that she is: 1) the heir to the throne, 2) a virgin, 3) someone he actually fancies yet didn't realise until that very moment.
Daemon is an agent of chaos, he does things just to see what happens, just to stir things up a little. But he is no fool. He saw her being alienated and unhappy at court, and stuck in her own sulkiness. I guess he wanted to take Rheanyra to town, show her the "real" life, show her the plays, what the smallfolk thinks of her, and teach her some ways of how to be a Targaryen (which he thinks Viserys is clearly failing at). He then took her to a brothel for a practical exposition to the fact that she must marry for political reasons, but she then can have pleasures with whomever she wants. It was all fun, and then it suddenly wasn't, as he realised she actually DOES want HIM.
Did he want to spoil her a little and make her even more rebellious? Sure. Did he have fun escapade-ing with her? Sure. Did he suddenly find himself lusting for her for real? Likely.
The reason he lied to Viserys is likely because he calculated that since the cat's out of the bag, then he can gamble for her hand anyway. If her reputation is soiled already, then the calculated move would be to offer to marry her, to solve the problem - and win the woman he just realised he lusts over, as well as half the power that would otherwise elude him, as he was then fourth to the throne.

I love the show but I just feel the time jumps & other events are making the show feel like its going too fast. I feel like the original GOT had everything much more drawn out & satisfying in that way

GOT took its time, this show obviously has had time jumps every episode but I do think they managed to pull it off very well as far as filling in the blanks from the time that has passed. Also this show is covering a pretty large chunk of time. I think once we get older Rhaenyra the time jumps will slow down.
I think the Maesters (who are based in Old Town) probably poisoned Baelon. The Citadel is very anti-Dragon and the Hightowers are power hungry SOBs. They're probably working together. I wouldn't be shocked if they're doing it to Viserys as well.

Daemon marrying Rhaenyra actually makes a lot of sense and could prevent a civil war. He purposely wanted to be seen with her by removing her scarf and his hoodie. He wanted the rumors to spread and didn't deny the allegations. He just didn't go through with it feeling perhaps guilt or surprised Rhaenyra actually wanted to do it. Daemon does have boner issues.
The twist for me is how much aware Viserys really is. He is no fool and is aware of Otto's social climbing like Daemon and Rhaenyra do. As Tyrone Magnus asked, why does Viserys fire Otto if he believes what he told him? Then Rhaenyra gets some abortion tea. So Viserys assumes it did happen or at least is aware Rhaenyra got deflowered and is worried for any unwanted pregnancies.
Rhaenyra will eventually marry Laenor Velaryon, rider of Seasmoke, in the next episode. If you only knew the type Laenor prefers. Episode 5 will be the last time we'll see Milly Alcock and Emily Carey. The major time jump happens by Episode 6. I'm guessing Otto will try to poison Viserys since he recently got fired. He will push for Alicent to lay claim for Aegon. Once Viserys dies, the Dance of the Dragons begins. This means civil war.
Next week's episode has a fight breaking out and you see Criston fighting in the wedding. In the book, Criston is supposed to be with the Greens. If you see all the trailers, you can see an older Alicent looking back from a distance with Criston standing behind her. Hmmm.. What's really going on? Next week's episode is going to be crazy. I'm predicting Viserys dies. TV writers are altering some of the ages and timeline.
So far the show's been way better than I expected. Next week should be awesome. That being said I hate when they change actors for age jumps, it's ridiculous and unnecessary. They can never make them look like the same person, because they're not. That's going to annoy me. Just use make up to age them up.
Viserys can be seen in scenes after the time jump in the trailers. He’s not dying next episode, that would be jumping the gun by over a decade. You need Aegon II to have children, as well as Rhaenyra before the Dance truly begins

Finally Viserys is acting like a king! And doesn't let everyone walk all over him. He was dominated by his hand and rebellious daughter. Now he is in charge.
I liked this episode. You see that Daemon doesn't have pure intentions towards his brother (i thought he only wanted his brother's approval and love but this episode shows it isn't enough), he really wants power and he saw his vulnerable niece as a mean to get it. If Rhaenyra married him then he would become King Consort or whatever next to her...or maybe even king if he manipulated her into giving the throne to him.
Rhaenyra is not all good...she was foolish and we still don't see why she wants the throne so much. If she really cared about her position then as her father said..she wouldn't put herself in compromising situations. I get it, she is 18. But as the heir of the throne, it was incredibly foolish and I'm mad at her but I hope she grows from it

I think the prophesy of a Targaryen must be on the throne to battle the White Walkers is simply a matter of common sense. They have the fire breathing dragons and the Valeryan swords. Had the White Walkers faced the current House of Dragon Kingdom (compared to what they battled against in Game of Thrones), they would have perished much faster.

Thought it was impotence with D like when we saw him in the brothel the first episode. That could explain the frustrated hit against the wall and leaving suddenly in a huff. I think it was his plan to sleep with her and couldn’t go through with it (emotionally he couldn’t use her) so he decided to lie about it knowing it would have the same effect. Thanks for the recap and history lessons. Very helpful.

11:25 the member of the City Watch is Ser Harwin Strong, eldest son of the Master of Laws Lord Lyonel Strong of Harrenhal. We met him briefly last episode at the hunt, Rhaenyra also recognizes him.
Otto might not be as smart as Littlefinger. He's actually making it so obvious which is why Viserys caught on. Otto was the one who told Viserys about Daemon's heir for a day comment and then Rhaenyra sleeping with his uncle. "Coupling" as he said.
If he keeps reporting bad news about them and not from a different messenger, wouldn't it be so obvious to Viserys what Otto's intentions are? Add the fact Viserys already caught on the moment Alicent walked into his room wearing her mother's dress.
Alicent doesn't even sleep in the same bed with Viserys. She's only used as a broodmare like what Tywin tried doing to Cersei and what Viserys is doing to Rhaenyra. Marriages and heirs are essentially business transactions. Love isn't required.
I don't believe Viserys loves Alicent the way he loved Aemma. He just sees Alicent as a means to an end. The end being producing heirs. That's his daughter's best friend for goodness sakes. He seems a lot more aware than how we perceived him intially.
Otto just keeps exposing himself to Viserys by being too obvious. Being negative towards Daemon and Rhaenyra. Suggesting Rhaenyra to marry his grandson. Viserys is proving he's no fool as his daughter pointed out.
In medieval times, kings and queens didn’t normally sleep in the same bed. They had their own apartments where they slept, so it’s not that weird that Alicent and Viserys slept separately.
Otto is more fictional version of Thomas Cromwell(The Tudors) or Thomas Boleyn. Little finger's plotting was way more intricate than this.
To be fair Littlefingers motives were never widely known. Almost no one knew he was working with Lysa Arryn or had a deep grudge against the Starks and wanted the Iron Throne for himself/Sansa. It's just too wild. Whereas it's natural for Otto to want his grandson to be king

I felt like Alicent fancied Daemon before her marriage with the King; Daemon asked for her blessing(?) on Ep 1, she was happy to throw him her flower-thingy despite Otto's side glances. Daemon was Viserys' heir before, so she could hope for a marriage/affair with the younger/handsome brother? Maybe she is more upset about Rhaenyra being with Daemon, than being with someone? Or it's just me :D

I dont think so. Daemon hates Otto, he would only entertain the idea of flirting with Alicent to get under Otto's skin. He asked Alicent for her blessing because he knew it would get a reaction out of him, especially since he had just chosen to fight and killed a knight from house hightower. And I don't think Alicent lusts for the throne, she's just doing as her father expects.

Rhaenyra fans need to realize that she is doing things that are hurting her claim to the throne. She's selfish, she doesn't care about the smallfolk, she is creating enemies with her catty comments, and she's lying. The actress who portrays her (Milly Alcock) said in an interview that "Rhaenyra wants to do whatever she wants to do." That's not what good leaders do. Just some food for thought...
And take no accountability for any of her actions. Her father is to blame as well, he feeds into her in sensibilities.

I think her ignorance is forgivable provided that she learns that lesson. Having said that, lying on her mother's memory was not a good start and maybe she learned the wrong lesson from her field trip with Uncle Daemon.
Oh please. When Daenerys told Tyrion that she doesn't care about the nobles of Westeros and only about the common folks who have long been oppressed and neglected, he basically told her that that's not how a great ruler does things.
Rhaenyra had a privileged upbringing which is the opposite of what Dany had. So their views and perspectives were obviously going to be different. Rhaenyra saw things only through the eyes of the nobles and her father's courtiers who were all competing for power and royal favours. She learnt much about the ways of politics and building alliances with the powerful houses of Westeros but that would inevitably mean that she would be out of touch with the realities outside of the palace walls and how the common folks viewed her.
Dany was exposed to the harsh realities of life that common folks, slaves and the poor suffered and knew nothing about politics but despite championing their rights, she would also find herself rejected by the common folks of Westeros who viewed her as an outsider, and even more so by the nobles.
Ultimately no matter what they did, good or bad, or how well-poised they were to lead the country, women will always be cast aside in favour of a male heir. So their ultimate downfall was not really due to any personal flaw per se, but simply due to the fact that they were women.

Otto always knew Daemon was a bigger threat than Rhaenyra being he's a male heir. That's why he ratted on him about the ”heir for a day" comment and kept Daemon away from his brother. You can see Otto's reaction when Daemon returned to King's Landing on Caraxes.
So if Daemon married Rhaenyra at least before Viserys dies, there would be no civil war. But nope. Viserys will banish Daemon again because of this rumor that Daemon took Rhaenyra's virginity. This leaves Viserys vulnerable like getting poisoned.
Will be easier to overtake Rhaenyra's claim being she is a woman. And Otto will only make it worse by stating how promiscuous Rhaenyra is. Daemon is just doing it wrong by pissing off Viserys. As the show runners said about Daemon in this episode, just when you think Daemon changed after 4 years, he doesn't. Same old Daemon.

I don't think Viserys distrusts Rhaenyra. Offering the tea is what parents do when their child is in a mess. He loves his daughter and is very forward thinking compared to his era, it is clear. He does it in a very elegant way btw. The tea is there should his daughter need it, but no judgment, no pressuring, he respects his daughter. That's how I see it anyways.
Is it really fatherly if it's "the King's orders?" It's *_not_* a choice. She *_has_* to take it so that she doesn't get pregnant because he doubts what she said, which is really a lie, so... it's just preventative for both their reputations. It has nothing to do with being a good parent. 💁🏻♀
