    Use painters tape to market your seam guide. It really helps. You may also want to finish your edge with a zig zag before you sew the seam by machine :) fun video. I had a boyfriend who admitted he used a stapler and tape before he met a sewist like me.

    I hemmed a second pair of men's trousers today using your technique (that's two in the past 2 weeks). What a great outcome. They look professional. It is so easy and simple. In the past I attempted to measure, cut, and sew the hem. They NEVER looked good. But these are first class, look like they were tailored just for my leg size.

    Still haven't had the time to run out and grab a bedsheet to practice on. Really excited to start tailoring my own clothing and this video is great because my suit pants DESPERATELY need to get that slim fit. I'm not a fan of the double break on me. It feels weird being in your 20s and having anything over a slim fit.

    Thanks!! One of the things I’ve been doing more recently has been a military hem. I’ve noticed that I’ve got a higher instep, so the back of my pants hem will flap around in the wind. It’s been super easy! I use one of those clear Fiskar rulers that go up to 18” to measure a 0.5” in drop in the hem length from the from to the back and then cut the pants at that angle (using chalk as a guid of course). Then I hem as normal. Solves my stupid flappy pants problem!!

    • @thatxonexguy5438
      @thatxonexguy5438 2 роки тому

      Yep i do that as well. I love the clean no break look, but i hate how my sock shows in the back if i were to hem it straight, so i just hem it at a slant.

    Good video. Clear, well shot, and concise. The only recommendation I would make is finishing the edge (pinking, zigzag) before before sewing. It is difficult to work with the raw edge so close to the hem stitch.

    • @neszero

      Can you please explain what you mean? I'm confused because there would be no hem stitch until after sewing, so how would you add a zig zag stitch before sewing if there is no hem stitch yet? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'm a newbie.

    Could you use your shortening process for slant pant hems. I shortened a pair of pants to one and a half inches near the hem. I measured the made hem to the caulk marks at the inseam. I used that number alone the finished hem and created the slat hem that way. The part I had a problem with was the folding of the 1 1/2 inch fabric to the hem measurement. I marked the pants on the wrong side of the fabric and then hit or missed the new hem and then pinned as I went along. I remeasured the inseam after I basted the new hem. I'm waiting for the pants to come back to me so I can finish hemming them. Do you have any easier way to make slant hems on pants marked on the wrong side? Thank you for your time.

    Do you sew with the pants wrong side or right side out. I tried the pants on. Pinned my length took them off. Turned them inside out did perpendicular pins at the height I wanted them raised by then do I sew inside out? Or flip right side out and re pin? I’m confused cause sewing inside out put the top tread on the inside and sewing right side out you can’t tell if you are pinned to the correct length thank you

    I recently started a new job, which requires me to wear khakis for casual occasions & dress pants for anything even remotely formal. The big problem with that is that I'm pretty short, just barely over 5 feet tall & a bit on the chubby side. I'm 21 but could easily pass as a teenager or even preteen. For non work clothes I typically shop for plus size stuff in the kids section, cause I have a better chance of finding clothes that actually fit me there. It's hard to find good fitting dress clothes in the kids section though. plus I'm tired of shopping in the kids section. So this video is super useful

    I have to hem my shorts because today they are several inches longer than they were decades ago and I keep getting my foot stuck whenever I try to put them on. I don't like anything touching my body and so I don't wear anything while on the second floor. It has been such a hassle getting long shorts on in time to answer the front door that I bought myself a kilt. I have some men's wraps from Thailand and I am going to use magnets to tighten them up. Frustration, Be Gone! Thanks for being there.

    I bought some jogging pants (polyester/cotton mixed material) from a Gucci store last week. The waist is too big and the length is too long. The store manager said they can alter the pants for me for free. Should I trust them to do it? I’m worried the altering will damage the pants and make them not look original anymore. I don’t people to be able to tell that they’ve been altered either.
