Your videos are great. My husband is 95 and I find that I still want him to look nice IF we venture outside of the home. All of his suits are really large on him now. Your videos helps me to do better with men's clothing, only his clothing. I'm a seamstress of long ago. I use to deal with adult clothing but not any more. Just sticking to Novelty items for my Grand Daughter. Thanks again for your easy to follow videos they are so, so easy to follow. You make every alteration look soooo easy. Perfect, thank you very much! Update: Altered my pants for the first time and they came out pretty nice. I love when clothes fit how they should. Thank you for showing how it works :) Next step for me: Altering a shirt, shortening those sleeves.
Most helpful, thank you. I managed to follow the steps to take in my 2y old grandson white dress pants for an upcoming wedding in 3wks. The steps were easy to follow but working with 100% polyester fabric was a pain, but I got the job done well in the end, big thank you from Brisbane Australia 🌻
Thanks for this, how did you see theough polyester? Because for me, my machine missed stitches whenever i sew through polyester. What machine did you use? What needle, thread, and settings?
Thank you so very much! I do all my alterations now like this !!! Never could have done this without your knowledgeable video! So grateful! Your instructions and videos are the best!!!
Amazing demo. Thank you. Maybe you could help me how to shorten tapered trouser. There’s many on how to slim/tapered jeans/pants that it’s saturated on UA-cam and none yet did how to shorten tapered trousers yet. It’s difficult to shorten tapered trouser and it’s common to find that the new hem allowance has a shorter circumference than the pant leg it needs to be sown to. If the trousers are significantly tapered, you’ll need more than easing to prevent puckers along the stitching line. Looking forward to your demo.
I should have some posted on that soon! But it’s actually very simple. Whenever you get to the finished hem line radically transition the taper in the opposite direction on the excess fabric that gets tucked up into the hem.
Where have you been? How do you bring in the seat of pants so they are not so baggy and hanging down? I’m so glad to have found you working on mens clothes. Don’t go anywhere please. How do I find yoy
Okay so like i have a question, please I'd appreciate an answer🙏 Did he seam the both sides? I.e the inseam and outer seam for the tapering or we're only to work on the outer seam?
At 1:25 he measures 1/2 inch from the current seam and states it would be 1 inch on each side or 2 inches total. From that I conclude he is doing both sides, the inseam and outer seam.

Love this question. In short you need to ease out the bottom and probably make your taper in the leg more gradual to avoid any major change in leg circumference.
Hi Louis ! I'm a new sub, just found you a couple weeks ago. Thoroughly enjoy your vids; lots of great info that is actually useable(!!). My grandpa was a tailor in NYC in the 30 - 40's; used to work on Lady Bird Johnson's gowns, grandma said. You know, these Sicilian old school tailors...mad skills! I'd love to know what fabric your jacket is made of? It's a perfect choice for that style, I think. The fit & workmanship is impeccable, btw...translates beautifully across the screen. Well, my dear, I will continue watching you & growing in my skills. Thx for making these vids. God bless you & yours.
That’s fantastic! I love hearing about the old heritage tailors that is so cool one was your grandpa! That jacket is a cotton, wool, poly blend I believe!
wow looks so simple. im definitely going to try this with my next pair just for fun. BTW would you be willing to make a how to video for attaching a zip hood to a wool jacket? i've been eyeing this wool jacket for a while but i want to attach a hood with zippers to it. zip on, zip off. just to be more versatile but i have no idea how to start it. maybe this is something on your radar in the future?
Curious, what if the waist is also big? My son needed a suit for a competition at school and the jacket fits great but the slacks are just all around big. I’m running out of time and I got it, a Tommy Hilfiger suit, for a great price. I’m comfy tapering the legs but worry about the waist. I don’t want to screw up the slacks completely. 😂 Also would be cool if I could alter with the option to re-wear next year since he’s only wearing for two days. Any tips? Thanks in advance 😊
Ahhh I just found your other vids!! I’ve made pants from scratch but it’s been YEARS and I’m rusty! Your videos are exactly what I needed to brush up on my skills. I’m only 5’2” so I’ve had to figure a lot of this out on my own. Where have you been all my life? 😂🙃 Thank you!!
Fantastic video as usual. I am not sure if you take requests but I would love to see a video of you removing/decreasing the amount of shoulder padding in a jacket and putting it back together.
If i don’t take in too much, would it be possible to only take in the inside seam? Because i’m working with smoking pants that have that line on the outside that i don’t want to lose
Came here to say this! Rewound it multiple times to see if it was an ad before I found the correct part lol. In between the completely calm narration it was gold. I was finishing a project for my son's sister (she's 7 and gave up on her latchstick strawberry pillow, but loves stuffies) and trying to learn more about tailoring pants before taking in my son's costume trousers for Halloween. So funny!
I’ve been having a nightmare of a time with a pair of trousers. The back of the legs have around 1” more fabric than the front. The front is also lined in the thighs and also has a liner in the crotch. No matter what I do, I can’t get a clean result without fabric bulging in the knee lol
I tried to taper in a pair of jeans, and I tapered it in right around the knee, but I was left with what felt and loosely looked like riding pants.. Are there any rules to follow in regards to how much you need to taper along the height of the pant based on how much you taper in by the ankles?
I need to narrow my husband's tuxedo pants which have a stripe. The crotch is also baggy. Could I follow your video on narrowing the crotch but taper leg from the same inside seam? Thank you so much

Glad you liked it 😂

So. Doing this for my own woman pants hope it works out!

Great video. I saw that you pressed open the seams, did you just leave them that way? Did you cut them? Would you use a serger?
Amazing tutorial! Does the same process apply to denim??
Okay so like i have a question, please I'd appreciate an answer🙏

That’s what I’m wondering too

You may please put up a video on long and (wide) pleated pants (wide pleats and not wide trousers).

Very helpful. I am guessing you do the same for the rear end and crotch? I have a pair of dress pants that Fit perfect that I am using as a ‘go by’
You've helped me do my alterations
That’s the best to hear!
These videos are amazing. I'm enjoying learning and sewing so much. Say, is there any chance you might be able to do a crotch gusset video?
Thanks
Good job thank you please can you 🙏did mor videos about how to slim shirts 👕 and how to hem shirts sleeves thank you
Excellent instructional video. Thank you soo much.
Great information. How would you taper a tux pant with the satin ribbon?
Great video. Thank you! Were these linen pants? What kind of thread did you prefer to use on these? Cotton or polyester?
Yes they are linen! And I use polyester all purpose thread.
@@AspiringGent Excellent. Thank you again for the great content and best of luck with your new business venture.
First time here! Thanks for the tips!
Great video, could you use a server to finish the new seam?
If it’s a raw hem. Then yes!
When you say "do this on each side", do you mean inseam and outseam, or just the outseam?
Hi pleade share how to add extrs fabric in groit area if its too tight, how we can make yy loose ?
? When you say both sides. Inseams or out seams or both?
So do we have to sew on both sides of a tapered pant? Is that for extra strength? I've just been sewing on one side.
Yes once more a video with good info 👍 👌
🙏🏼
Did you work at the outside or in both side of the pants 🤔
We did the inside and outside seams
Okay i think this answered my question.
So we'll take 1inch here and there, that's like 2 inch total for a leg?
Love this. I am going to try this !
Fantastic video as usual.

Great! 😂
@Aspiring Gent 5:30-5:35.....why is a wrestling clip inserted?
If i don’t take in too much, would it be possible to only take in the inside seam? Because i’m working with smoking pants that have that line on the outside that i don’t want to lose
Do you have sew course that you teach basic alterations?
I didn't expect that wrestling clip🤣😂 nicee

@cats_in_a_box i should've linked the time frame to the comment , my bad 😅
This is so cool

I've just been doing the inside leg and hand sewing. Probably not the best way lol...or the fastest.
Thank you for the tutorial!
Thanks, great info!
