In this video I'm going to show you how to tailor your jeans. Everyone has a favorite pair of jeans, and it's annoying when you go to buy more and they either don't have your size or they don't make them anymore. Instead, what you can do is buy a pair that you don't like as much, and clone the size onto your new jeans. My all time favorite jeans are the Goodfellow and Co skinny jeans. I hate skinny jeans, but these aren't obnoxiously skinny at all, they're amazing! They didn't have my size so I had to go with these Wrangler jeans instead...and even though they're both 32 inches long, the Wranglers need to be hemmed.
All you have to do is lie them on top of one another and put some sewing pins along side the old jeans into your new ones. Now your new ones will have the same measurements as the old ones.
Now we need to make a new hem. All we have to do is pin where we want the new hem, and sew it on with a hem stitch. That's it, now we have a pair of pants that fit exactly like our old ones do!

Stylish Dad great video! My target is hour and a half away and if I went to a second one I’d have to add another hour 😆😆 middle of nowhere living ftw

bro y u just now liking my comment i commented 2 years ago and i commented when i was in high school and now i’m heading to college 😂
Do you turn both pairs inside out? If not, why not?
Thank you for the helpful information
As a guy with short legs I would like to throw out a protip for everyone. If you don't feel comfortable practicing on your real jeans, just go to your local thrift store and grab a few pairs of jeans to practice on. Worst case scenario you're out $3.
I'm quite handy with a sewing machine. But this I will do, never adjusted jeans before.
Cheers bud
Thanks for the idea! I’m doing this on a pair of pants for a costume and I don’t know why I never thought about practicing on another pair.
Nope, not going to spenf even a penny on new cheap jeans. Can practice on old jeans.
Ur cute
Funny thing is one time I went looking for a pair of jeans at a thrift store and found a pair.. till this day their my favorite pair
"I'm black, of course I have chicken" OMG HAHAHA. another great video. 👍
I was editing and was like "wait..."
LOL
Watching this, with my blackish children and laughed out loud. They didn't because yes we always have chicken too. It's so inexpensive at the commissary.
That right there just made me laugh...and subscribe!😂
Favorite line in the video!! Love the sense of humor!
You are more natural than Jose Zuniga and Alpha M, and your videos are extremely useful. Now, you really deserve a lot of subscribers.
Thanks for the kind words!
He's gotta get the elegance of The Gentleman's Gazette though lol
He's too fancy for me
I like this guy but him and Alpha are 2 different type of content even tho they talk about a lot of the same stuff! If that makes sense lol!!
@@billyvonderburg7351 my man, my man, my man, wait until you start watching Hugo Jacomet. He is the definitive gentleman on UA-cam. No one comes close quite frankly.
Hugo would even be irritated (but brush it off with a compliment) that I said that
I always see pros do it on elaborate machines. I really appreciate your humor and the fact that you showed me that I can do this with a regular machine. Thanks man.
Awesome, now I can hem up my annoyingly long ass jeans. short ppl problems, where size 30l is too long and size 29 is no where to be found.
Yeah long jeans are super annoying! Especially when it says its one length but it clearly isn't...
@@StylishDTailors
Brands that's been around for like a billion years seem to be consistent with sizing, like Levi and stuff.
But then again I think they intentionally make it long since part of the style is roll it up so you can see the shoes a bit or something with a bit of 2 contrasting colors at the end (inside color and outer color).
But waddooai know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Lol that style doesn't look great on shorter people, like me.
Try getting a pair of 32/28 off the rack. Impossible 😤😤😤
@@johnthemann6483 There is online company (Peter Manning) that tailors to short men. They have do inseams as low as 26". Hope that helps.
@@kostaspiliopoulos1531 hey im not short im Fun Size LMAO good lookin out though!
A good no nonsense channel. Keep it real man big love
Those tailored Jean's look amazing. I will definitely give this a try. Thanks for posting this!
I love the 'use what you've got' philosophy. I haven't tried the utility ladder chair yet, but it's actually a great idea! : )
Liking this channel, bro. Been wondering where all the other resourceful people are. No reason to throw everything away all the time.
I like you, straight to the point. No UA-cam antics. Earned a subscriber.
Nice video, straight to the point. Going to see if I can turn my boot cut into a tapered jeans :)
Another great video, thank you.
My mum got me extra size saying "now you can wear it for a long time" so how tf am I gonna wear it now if it giant... Looks like I have to wear my old clothes until I grow ugh
Gai Sensei I read this in Gai’s voice makes it funny dab😂😂😂
G G D ffc Lmao 💀💀💀
Great! Now I can proudly say I have two dads!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have no idea why youtube recommended your video to me, I dont have a need to alter my own jeans or do any altering to my clothing but this was good! Good video content and editing. Engaging, entertaining and straight to the point. New sub right here lol
Pros of being 5’5:
I can shop in the children’s department 😄👌
I swear that 1 part of the video made my day thank for putting it in the vid "im black of course i got chicken"😂😂
I hand stitch, but now I finally can make my pants the way I want. Just tested it out. Loved the video, and look forward to the future installments!
@riseabovedeceptionmusic @stylishd I'm trying to learn how to had stitch and do all these things stylish d posts with a hand kit. can y'all post tutorials for Hand sew DIY's?
You are such an inspiration, teaching guys you can sew and still be manly! ♥️
Nice job; solved problem directly, logically, and simply.
Your videos are amazing. And I love straight to the point, and short and simple. Love it.
SD you came through for us yet again.😄. Would you be willing to make a video showing us which needles and threads to use for which fabrics? Most guys probably need to know which ones to use for ... Denim, dress shirts, t-shirts, dress pants, and joggers. Thanks for the amazing content SD!
Will do!
03:46 : Awesome setup, the birth of a legend
Im a construction worker just looking up how to sew my torn pants and now I'm hooked on trying to tailor. Trying.
Funny how that works huh?
Hey! I just discovered your channel! Thank you UA-cam! And thank you for your tailoring vids! I’ve been wondering about this for a while because I’m 6’5”, and it’s hella hard to find jeans that are comfortable or fit the way I want, so when jeans/chinos get all worn out, I sigh really loudly cuz now I have to go through all the effort of trying to find “the best jean” again. This will definitely help me out tho! Thank you!
The definition of the term ,use what you have ,where you are 💯 My man is sitting on a step ladder sewing jeans on a stoll🤣🙌🏽. Results still the same even if it was made in a factory ✊🏽
Boom! That's what's up!
First video and I love this guy already
“Taking one for the team” lol this is freakin awesome
Thank you for taking the time to share this- UBER helpful!!! :)
Thanks from Texas, I've been sewing for fun sense my teens but I couldn't remember how to take in my jeans. I think my mother taught me once but I'm 54 now and my memory is not quite the same as before. I far from a professional so I ain't got no tips for anyone, I'm just a retired Navy Seabee trying to get these dam baggy jeans to fit me. I appreciate the help SD your videos are great and they have helped me more than you can know. Please keep it up.
Thanks for this awesome comment, I love reading things like this!
Oh man, it never occurred to me to use a pair of jeans that fit perfectly in the leg and using it as a template. Genius! I'm a newbie sewer, that's my excuse.
Why did the UA-cam algorithm put me here at 2:05am? More importantly, why did I love it? I can’t sew, I don’t even have a sewing machine 🤣😂 keep at it dude, pretty awesome
The algorithm works in mysterious ways...
Thank you for the kind words!
You sir, are a genuine hero.
Why is this video so hilarious!? I almost forgot why I pulled it up
I appreciate this upload, love the editing and thanks for the laugh
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey SD, thanks for your help and the inspiration. I recently busted out my mom's old sewing machine after watching your channel. Quick question about the jeans, if you can... What do you do at the crotch? I marked and pinned my jeans, but wasn't really sure how to end them. I ended up basically doing a u-turn at the pant crotch and essentially have one long stitch that goes up one leg all the way up and down the other leg. I used some throwaway jeans, so it's no biggie. If you could explain how/where to end the stitch, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks again!
Thanks for taking one for the team. Great videos, I’m subscribing
I got wat I was looking for thanks.
So helpful. Last time I tapered my new jeans without checking the seams properly & it turned out so wrong😭 Thankyou for this video🙏
Great video! Subscribed!
You are so helpful and I really appreciate your style of video because it is really easy to understand!
Glad it was helpful!
Dude you’re hilarious, thanks for the tips!
Awesome! Thanks for the great video.
This worked out very well thanks:D
wow this guy knows his stuff. lemme hit that subscribe.
Almost 100k keep pushing!!!!!
Boom!
Loud techno intros ain't nobody got time fo that ❤️❤️ ma man
Do you know if I can do the inseam with a serger I am altering my cousins work pants and wanna make sure it’s a perfect foundation
You can yes
@Stylish Dad what do you do if the sweatpants have a cuff on the bottom?
You can just use my original hem Jean method to move it up.
Hey SD, can u show me how to move/replace a button? & can I use a sewing machine for that?
On another topic, I'm kicking myself now for getting rid of all my Mom's sewing stuff when she passed away.
Thats actually the next video I'm making haha! Changing the buttons on a dress shirt. And I'm sorry to hear about your mom! The sewing machine that I use was my moms and she passed away as well, so ill probably always use it...
I'm loving your videos !🌞
Glad to have ya here!
Sewing like a Boss!
dude you are amazing keep it up
Really helpful , subscribed asf
Your vid gave me energy!
This a seriously helpful video, thanks Stylish Dad!
Great video! This was very simple and well though of. Thank you
Thanks!
Fantastic, so simple. I've been really overthinking this pants thing. Thank-you!
You're welcome man, I'll put together a more in depth tutorial for those who don't have a favorite pair too! Let me know if you try tailoring denim and you need help!
@@StylishDTailors Appreciated!
Stylish Dad JKSTUDIOS am I right
That’s sewing like a real dad on a step ladder lmao good shit
Hilarious! Love how easy you made this and entertaining! Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I dusted off my sewing machine 2 weeks ago but after two weeks of watching random UA-cam videos I couldn't find the motivation to get started... until i found your channel yesterday. I watched a few of your videos last night as a refresher course ... the next thing you know... I'm going at it with my "thread-injecting power tool" until 5 AM. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thanks, D!
Love this awesome comment! Thanks! Have fun avoiding the tailoring binges now haha!
@@StylishDTailors Have you done a vid on dying? If not, that would be something to look forward to watching. I've revived some of mine and the wife's favorite jeans after years of fading using RIT...."fairly" successfully.
I haven't no, but I've dyed my own jeans in the past. I'll have to look it up but I found a product that locks your dye in so it doesn't bleed everywhere.
@@StylishDTailors Another vid we subscibers would like to see is how to taper/narrow suit pant legs while keeping the crease centered. I know, (because I've been binge watching all your vids) you touched on the subject recommending taking in only the inside seam and taking one's pants to the cleaner to press a new crease. Keep those entertaining and informative vids comin'.
This was extremely well made
Thank you I appreciate that!
Thank you. I’ll never go back!!!!
Ay SD, you’re a CHAMPION
This is my favorite channel on UA-cam
Thanks!
Just finding your channel really enjoying it so far. You mentioned in the video don't get too far off your waist size, what happens if I did? Have you made a video for that?
Well you can but it wouldn't be comfortable at all and they would be sorta distorted.
love your channel what's your camera setup?
Thanks! Canon SL2 with a 24 mm prime.
So glad I found this vid!
It's funny how tapered jeans were popular in the 80s , especially with the heavy metal crowd. Then it became "not cool". Then in the 90s it was baggy as all hell. Then back to normal cut then boot cut. Now we are back to tapered jeans. And men's suits are so tight it looks like your wearing two sizes too small. Next year it will go back to normal cut and then baggy again.
I doubt it will ever go to baggy again.
@@sadness8945 It's already going back to normal cut, I've seen lots of baggy also
Can't wait for baggy again
when your zigzaging a the threads on the cut fabric, does it leave a double lining on the outside? since that's the only way that zigzag could be done I guess
Nope the Jean's will look completely normal if that makes sense
Glad I found your channel
Hey SD stumbled onto your video's .... great job, I have tapered several pair of wrangler jeans on the inseam so have the technique down pat but how do I stop the outer double stich seam from rotating over the thigh when I sit down, any suggestion ??
You mean the outer stitch move inward?
Well done!
i once hand sewn a pair of levis pants my big brother gave me. he was 2" bigger than me. after watching your vid. i realized i made a few mistakes. LOL
Great tutorial 😅
Dueces! I really liked your tailoring skills and tutorials! peace!
Thanks bro!
If I want to thin a pair of pants with a permanent crease, do I have to take an even amout from both sides of the leg or does it not matter?
Yes take off an even amount.
I bought 4 pair of 36 jeans( yeah I have a belly) 2 fit and 2 didn't. Now I can make the other 2 fit!
This channel is awesome...
you earned a sub
You're my new fav thing!
Thanks bro!
Can i tailor them so they can be less baggy in the back area ?
The seat? Yes but it's tricky for beginners
Wish this guy was my personal trainer keep up the great content 💪🏼
Lol! If only you knew what the pandemic has done to my gains!
Baggy pants are good for me but thanks bro I appreciate the advice anyway 😎👍
I love the 'dog hair' on the pants 1:59 😂
She’s sitting right next to me as I type this!
WOW Bro, I NEVER comment on videos here at youtube, but after viewing yours I had too! Great user friendly video, kept my attention the entire time!!! one criticism u seem to be shouting a little, just saying, other wise you told it how it is… im a professional fashion designer and I say BRAVO. Anyone watching that doesn't know a thing about sewing… LISTEN TO THIS DUDE!!! He knows what he is talking about!!!
Thanks.
Dave
I appreciate that! And you're so right, I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to yell in my older videos...
down and dirty. Love it. Thanks man
Thanks for the tutorial SD... so you cut only the inseam of ur jeans and created curve-like cut because the lower it gets, the more u cut?
Exactly
How do you trailer the raise to make a mid raise.
Sew through the crotch seam
Is it possible to sow this by hand
Yup
The Hems on some of my dress pants are “invisible” for lack of a better word (visible only on the inside). How are those done?
Thanks for all you do!
That's called a blind stitch, pretty easily done. They get their own video, probably in the next week or so, stay tuned!
Bruh this nixxa looks like Frieza 3rd form lmaooo
Edit: still great energy and good vid :)
what's the music that was used in this video? i've heard it before, but i don't know its name
I don't either. I made this video a year ago and have downloaded many more music tracks since then.
@@StylishDTailors aw, dang! but thanks anyway!
I'd been doing that, that's why I kept my old baggy jeans
this is awesome. what are your thoughts on lengthening pants? i assume it cant be done because of the length of the fabric that is already there. i have a super tall offspring with a small waist im trying to help out.
It can be done yes but not to a significant degree unfortunately!
Good will boosted its prices jeans and pants are 25$ ????
Any ideas on tailoring Jean overalls or overall shorts? I'm thinking its more complicated bc of the whole overall part but I'm gonna try an inside of the leg seam and see how thinns go!
Not a bad idea! Give it a shot and get back to us!
Immediate subscribe. 😂 I love this.
True story. Just got an email notification for it
Great 👏
