I can't help but tear up. The lyrics mean so much to me. Only Tool does this to me. Multiple meanings with every song. And only once I've gone through certain things in life, it becomes clear what it means. It's beautiful and sad. Thank you so much, James.
I saw this tour in the spring of 97 on acid with my best friend. Best show I've ever seen by far, 24 years ago... The on going joke in high school listening to this album with my friends was "this is the best song" that someone said at the beginning of every song. Finally someone said "they're all the best songs on this album"! And they were right. Every single song was a masterpiece. Still my favorite album to this day. Long Live Aenima. Oh yeah, and i have cried at every single Tool show I've been to. Every time.
I was there !! At 18 years old , high school senior … The best live show I’ve ever been to No question . I remember Maynard saying “ the angel on one shoulder the devil on the other “ like it was yesterday.. That really stuck with me , It’s all about our choices we make . Long live TOoL
the people who disliked this are yet to accept themselves a whole. both there shadow and there light.. one can not fully embrace there light until they view it from there shadow.
Love Maynard's movements. It's as if it would be when all the worms and snakes and insects were to rise out of the ground and tell us all what we've been getting wrong but are oh so capable to get right.
Maynard's movements and vocals are so primal and effective in creating a true psychedelic experience combined with the over the top original music provided by his band . Seen them 11 times in my life . They changed me .
It’s the way he sings “DOOOooowwn liiiiike some sweet” And the “gravity” line, you might say he drags down the line from the top after wrestling with it for a second but it all comes home perfectly on point
Was this Electric Factory in Philly? I was there... my second Tool show. When he spoke before the song... I was transported right back to the moment. Whoa.
matthew gillis my interpretation is that it’s about loving someone who’s tearing you apart but being unable to let them go. this is also considering the speech he gave at the beginning. definitely best performance of this song
Wish Maynard was still like this when it comes to live performances. He sucks live now. Even in 2006 he was bad. He was better when he was more in the front.
I've read that he developed an eye condition over the years where the lighting sometimes causes him to get vertigo. Apparently there is a second light show ser in place in case this occurs, and it's the position of Maynard's mic stand that signals which setting to use. Not only does he want the music to speak for itself, but he has a medical reason for hanging out in the back.

it’s like a mood ring depending on how you’re feeling the meaning reveals itself
Maynard sounds so flawless here.
His voice is so powerful. This might be my favorite live version of the song
Yes!!
I was there that day at Roseland as a HS
Student …
Blown away totally 😮

I might be the biggest tool fan there is, maybe more than you, but crying? Lol
leroy jenkins what’s wrong w that? That’s why tool is so special man. Not many artists out there can make you feel the way tool can. At least imo
Nothing wrong with experiencing and reacting to emotions.
Mother of God. I thought I found the best H. performance on youtube a while ago. But I was totally wrong
@Luis Cortez Most likely. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I thought it was Glass House 10/16/1996 that was the best.
@Luis Cortez Thats awesome man hahaha! Crazy we're on the same page with this. You got good taste my friend 👍
Live NYC 2002 cooks 🔥
@@cjkeller5287 great performance, but post Lateralus Maynard doesn't have the grittiness of the AEnima era that I love. It's just so powerful
I would say 2002 Radio City NYC, the audio is not excellent but it's my favorite live version.
I have died and will die. It's alright. I don't mind.
Yeah buddy 👍.
Mag Pie...its Gary again...I didn't know why you were talking to me...sorry again for having no clue who you are. PEACE. MUCH RESPECT.
We all die 😣

I’m beyond jealous
Something about his performance here has me SHOOK
It’s the way he sings “DOOOooowwn liiiiike some sweet”

Seen TOOL on the side stage at lolla93 and 5 or 6 times since then. Absolutely the best live band then and now! All geniuses and amazing performers!!
my favorite live Tool performance
Check out jerk off, older show but with Justin.
Honestly same
Goosebumps, goosebumps everytime
I bookmarked this years ago. I come to it often and just watch it when I need that special "connection" time. IYKYK
Gotta Love Tool - H. 💓 🎶.
Love ❤. Shared ❤️. Saved on UA-cam ❤️.
I would lose my mind if they did this live now.
7:07 you can hear a guy in total shock of what he just witnessed
i'm sorry i can't hear anything over the sound of my own emphatic tears.
Maynard made him feel the touch of a loved one who has died and gone away.
def my fav tool song
Tears of joy watching this. Oh my goodness 😌😌
i would like to see him come out painted up on an upcoming show.
Deundertow You had me @...nm.
@@Musistics replying to a comment left 9 years ago, that's bravery
Me too

yes great audio! id give a limb to have been at one of these aenima tour shows.
Gosh... I Need to see them again!
Maynard gave wise words
I think we can call him a poet at this point 😊
Thank you so much for capturing this moment

yeah,i was there too
Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.
....said the cult leader
Try telling that to Maynard's mom.
love this song
Amazing performance, such wow.
Fuck me I love Tool
Is it taken from the soundboard? The audio quality is impeccable.
I think so, better than phone's. Thank you very much!
@James Cotner not many people had cell phones back in those days, especially camera phones.
Ok yeah thanks great nice. No shit
@James Cotner You're welcome.

Incredible...
Maynard looks fucking buff on this one.
He was. Now go back to their first shows. Dude was hangry.
It havries he was skinny in 1991-1995 then out of nowhee buffs up in 1996!? prob from jujitsu.
My friend refers to heroin as "H" and it always reminds me of this performance and song
matthew gillis my interpretation is that it’s about loving someone who’s tearing you apart but being unable to let them go. this is also considering the speech he gave at the beginning. definitely best performance of this song
@@nolan3196 It probably means that too. I'd say most heroin addicts, or any addict for that matter loves their drug but can't let it go.
@@MaynardsSpaceship exactly, it is about what he said and Heroin as well
What I'd give to see live performances by hot, shirtless, metal bands in 2020.
Yep, sadly we have senthized-pop and lazy-non-creative rap and repetitive
this was fantastic
!
5:56 I like how Maynard raises his fingers for a countdown to the breakdown, but none from the crowd notices it.
goofy ah audiance npc's
HOLY HEAVENLY JESUS! That was incredible. I damn near creamed myself, correction I definitely did cream myself.
God bless u huntingtonst
👍
Speaking of tool. Oh my.
Sounds just like the CD
No, his voice is softer on the record
Only God knows what this song causes inside of me.
5:34 in, Maynard looks like some sort of ghoul w the way the lights are shining on his face!
Great audio!
there is another live of h where Maynard says this song is about choices. gives another perspective cause most people think the song is about heroin.
superb!
@Deundertow As awesome as that would be, those days are loooonng gone my friend!
