    Thanks for this video. My wrist got fractured in a road accident 2 months ago. It was a colles fracture in radius bone of left wrist. Dr removed the cast after 6 weeks and I am currently undergoing physiotherapy and its been 3 weeks now, i cant even lift a 5 kg dumbbell now. Is it going to be like this forever? How can i restore my grip strength and lifting ability that i used to have before injury, i used to do dumbbell curls using 10-12-15 kg dumbbells in gym and i know deter lifting 5 Kg dumbbell. Any suggestion or word of advice?

    How often and for how long should a 13 year old do these exercises after a radius and ulna fracture? He's 11 weeks into healing, the cast is off but his arm is very sensitive.

    Hi thank you for this! For ROM exercises, how many seconds would you recommend holding each position? Like if we do 10 reps of supination and pronation, how long should the FA be held in supination, then in pronation? or would it not matter, we just need to go through the movement?

    • @sportrehabguide
      @sportrehabguide  2 роки тому +1

      For strength exercises I personally suggest to patients slow & controlled movements with a second holding end of range. With ROM tend to give anywhere between 10secs to 1min depending on factors such as pain, stage of rehab, tolerance to exercises etc

      Usually tell patients to work in maximum 4/10 pain that settles a few hours post exercise

    • @sportrehabguide
      @sportrehabguide  2 роки тому +1

      you should talk to your surgeon/PT about it as may be something exercises won’t sort. Could be carpal tunnel syndrome or a symptom following surgery that can’t be undone. Consultant may say 2 months is still very early after an op. Not an issue you’ll be able to sort over UA-cam.

    Hello,
    I have got distal radius end fracture of my left forearm. It was fixed using 5 K-wires closed reduction. 6 weeks after surgery the K-wires were removed. There is a swelling on the ulnar side wrist after that. Now after 3 weeks of K-wire removal I am still having the swelling on my ulnar side. Is it something to worry about? Is this a deformity/malunion that resulted? Or this will go away with time?
    I will be very grateful if you kindly reply to me.

    How many weeks till patients are allowed to start with weighted excercises and putting weight on the hand normally? I'm not injured, just curious. I know it depends on the surgery but what is your experience?

    • @sportrehabguide
      @sportrehabguide  Рік тому +2

      It really does depend on recovery, age, surgical or conservative etc . If range of motion is progressing well then around 6 weeks onwards with some light weights. Look at 3months plus with weight bearing through the hand.

      If you’re doing Physiotherapy you should be being guided already on realistic expectations and timescales post surgery. Unfortunately it will be difficult and unethical to guide you over UA-cam comments. Always best to consult your surgeon/physio on what is expected on your recovery.

    • @sportrehabguide

    Generally speaking, will doing this continously increase range of motion back to the level of the uninjured wrist? For me its not longer painful, but the range of motion isn't quite there like the other wrist

    • @sportrehabguide
      @sportrehabguide  Рік тому +1

      Varies patient to patient dependant on severity of fracture and various other factors. Always best checking with consultant or healthcare professional who can set expectations on range of motion. Some patients never get full range , some do.

      Bar is just a generic barbell for spin lock dumbbell. When treating patients I typically suggest range of motion exercises to be done several times a day and weighted exercises x 3 weekly.

      @@simplegirl7739hi, its been 7 months since then. I got that plate out almost 3 and half months ago. The range of motion was back to normal. But i wanted to take the plate out because i was afraid of break the bone again due to heavy lifting because the bone can break under heavy load due to the screws( its called stress fracture due to the screws). This does not mean you that you have to worry about it. Its happens under extreme stress on the bone and because i lift lots of heavy weight thats why i didnt want to take the risk. And with the plate i was able too lift the weight i used to before the injury but i was afraid. I did alot of wrist extensions, wrist flextion and supination and pronation with 1kg dumbel ( I started doing it from 6 weeks after the operation till 4 months completly and daily 2 times). Due to the fracture the whole arm and shoulder area and the wrist will be weak. So after 3 months of the operstion you habe to be active and do some sort of excersise so that good anount of blood can flow and make the area recover better.

    Hi. I broke my distal radius on Monday. The consultant has decided that I don't need a cast, so I'm just in a brace for 4-6 weeks. I asked about weight lifting, and was told 6 weeks. Can you give me an idea as to when I can get into the gym? I know it varies, but I just don't know if I should except to be out for 6-8 weeks or 3/4/5 months? I'm hoping the fact that I'm just in a brace will mean my wrist isn't as stiff when healed

    I had a motorbike accident 8 weeks ago and got a distal wrist fracture on my right hand (and I'm a righty).. I have two plates implanted for the next 8 weeks. One on the top and one on the bottom of my radius.. The cast was removed 4 days ago and I've started my physio.. Is it normal for the wrist to feel like its locking up? I have minimal range moving it upwards then it feels "locked" - theres no pain it just wont move upward (downward hurts on the right side of my wrist.)
    Also.. if I'm "palm up" I can move my wrist down off the edge of a table, but when I turn my wrist so its "palm down" my wrist wont move as far upward.. What's with that?
    I suppose over time and doing these stretches five times a day will get things moving again. Great video by the way.. You said to do things slowly to start with and don't try to do too much.. I was trying to put extra pressure on the wrist by pushing it up n down with my other hand not realising I could be doing more harm than good, but I won't do that now after watching your video.. Just let time take its course.. Three days ago it wouldn't move at all.. Now I have some movement.. What will it be like in 6 weeks.. 🤔 My physio person said to start doing things with the hand as "normal" as that's also going to be like doing physio without thinking about it..
    Is it okay to put my forearms together touching my elbows and palms together then bending my elbows away like my hands are praying - stretching the wrists? Or is that an advanced stretch for now?
    I get the upper plate removed in 6 weeks but the lower plate is staying in apparently.. I must have done a right number on my wrist...

    • @sportrehabguide
      @sportrehabguide  Рік тому +1

      Yes does sound like you’ve done a right number on it!! I can’t advise/assess on personal situations over UA-cam comments but it sounds like you’re being managed well by your physio and surgeon. They’ll be best placed to give you realistic expectations of range of motion post surgery and post plate removal. Maybe write down a list of questions and take it to your next appt. Rehab after these types of injuries take several months , sometimes even over a year.

    Thanks for this, good to hear someone saying things like "gradual" and "slowly". I was getting really discouraged 10 days after wrist cast removal seeing videos where supposed physios and doctors seemed to be impying there should be almost instant results. I realise everyone id different, but any chance of any indication of how long it should take to get some reasonable amount of movement?

    Hello mine wasn't fractured but after getting Dengue Fever my body triggered something like Arthritis which after taking a series of medication most of the pain is gone but just my distal radius area on my right hand is swollen and bulging. Not sure what else to do I've iced it (not consistent though) and tried banning it but all aren't consistent. Then the wrist bone in line with the little finger that hurts also. Any suggestions?

  • @nfp613
    @nfp613 Рік тому

    My fracture happened in 2015 and i didn't do these exercises back then, so my rehab wasn't completely done.
    When i do it now, i have some stiffness during the exercises (no lasting pain). My range of motion is restricted somewhat due to the stiffness. My arm feels weak as well compared to the other arm.
    Will these exercises work for me after 7.5 years of the day of injury?
    Ps: I'm 32 now, was 24 when i broke my arm
