As much as I like the UK NHS sometimes I think they cut corners as I was in plaster cast for 7 weeks due to a non displacement of the Scaphoid, waist fracture. Then I had an x-ray and cast off then told by consultant to just go home and carry on as before! No advice on exercises and was told that no physio is needed. @whome? What a coincidence. On my follow up visit last week I learned that the tendon is no longer attached to my thumb. I have a long history of CRPS. When I broke my radius for the second time I was advised surgery was my only option. Also told the CRPS would definitely return. Was not given any plan to address the pain from CRPS. I turned down the surgery and now live with a deformed hand & wrist. Received 1 stellate ganglion block and many weeks of PT. I broke mine in November 2019 and it was just a hairline fracture. I can still do push ups but only on my knuckles. But bro this shi hurts so bad I’ve been slowing down cause I don’t know if it’s safe.
How I wish I would have had a surgeon that was competent when I broke my wrist and had to have surgery to repair with hardware. After surgery, we asked about physical therapy and he said to just move my fingers, I'd be fine. Well, after developing CRPS and my hand swelled double the size, he finally decided I needed therapy. A year later, after therapy once a week, a splint to stretch tendons back, I still do not have the range of motion I once had. I can only bend my wrist back to a 45° angle, and I still cannot make a complete fist. 😢

It's been almost 6 months and my left hand has been out of the cast for 4 months. Because of my age 68, I think it was best to just use a cast without surgery although my wrist has healed but is misaligned. My center finger is almost completely numb and hasn't gotten ANY better. I am left handed so my writing and art (acrylic paint) have suffered. If they break my wrist and reset the bones it could make things worse. At least it didn't happen when I was 16 and live with it my whole life. At least we are not in turkey or syria where 5 million are homeless in the middle of winter ❄️❄️❄️🥶🥶🥶.
I broken the end of the radius off and split the end into 2 pieces. They put a " T " plate and 9 screws in. About 1 1/2 weeks after the surgery, I was out running a chainsaw cutting down trees. They didn't cast it as I am allergic to cast material and just had to wear a splint. Everything healed up great, although it does get cold in the winter.

I’m here 2 weeks after ORIF distal radius and ulna head surgery in my right arm from breaking both in a snowboarding accident. Had to get a metal plate and around 10 screws put in. To make matters worse, I also had a minor hairline fracture in my left wrist. Very informative video! I’ve gotten a lot of my mobility back that I thought I would never have again. I’m currently in a smaller splint cast than I was right after surgery and will be put into a small brace next week. Something I’ve noticed though is that my right wrist sticks up more than and appears a bit bigger than my left wrist now. Do you know if this is from the plate/screws in there or from just being a bit swollen still from surgery? Will this appearance likely subside at all? Please let me know if I just need to give it time for the swelling to go down!
Hi, my wrist surgery sounds like yours ORIF with plates and have like 13 screws...How you getting on now...I'm struggling to bend mine and still feels stiff.

so... we're all here because we broke our wrist. How did you break yours? My story: my friend who's 5'7 (about 130 lbs) decided to jump on my back (I'm 4'10 and 105 lbs) so I fell and broke my wrist :D (Edit) no I didn’t get surgery and I finally got my cast off like 3 weeks ago 😭. It took 4 months to heal.
i fell of by bike, i thought there was a bug on me and freaked out. i just some cuts here and there. my lip and near my right eye. they put me to sleep and placed it back. hurts like, *hell* its also my dominant hand soo 🙃
I got this snowboarding in February this year, I have a titanium plate and 5 screws but my hand/wrist is at basically 95%. I'm getting the metal removed in the winter sometime just cause I'm still growing (hopefully), thanks for the good video!
@Trinity Huerta23 the scariest part was waking up from the anaesthesia tbh😅 but it didn't hurt, and I was off painkillers (ibuprofen) after like 2 or 3 days. I did physical therapy as well which helped a lot, I think as long as you know your limits and stay healthy you should heal really fast!
Saw in another video that it is permanent but about 5% of ppl get it removed after problems with their tendons. It’s made out of titanium and doesn’t cause trouble at airports
If you are young you should consider to remove it. In the unlikely event that you break the same wrist again your bone will break into 100 small pieces otherwise and then there won't be any chance to restore it again.
I had the surgery for comminuted distal radius fracture. ORIF, with a "block". It was if I had had general anesthesia, having remembered nothing after I came to. And I was requried to spend the night in the hospital. Good thing I was on Medicare! 9 months post, there is still residual stiffness, but have recovered most of my range of motion. I don't regret having had the surgery as it shortened the time in a cast. Do have at least one OT visit post op to learn exercises to expedite your recovery.
I had my surgery a month ago and the block was the worst part. They just stab you in the shoulder with anesthesia and then you have a jelly arm for 24 hours lol. I’m in a removable brace, but still experience some pain and swelling. Haven’t gone through PT yet.
I broke my wrist really bad playing soccer a while ago my radius and ulna were completely snapped in two and an amazing doctor I went to just set it back in place said I wouldn’t need surgery and it heal perfectly the hospital where i got it set said I needed surgery and a metal plate connected to them but I didn’t
I have 2 plates for Displaced fracture of mid shaft of ulna & distal shaft of radius with dislodgement of bony fragments & dissociation of distal radio - ulnar ends. It will be helpful if you could explain the procedures to treat the same and some excersies to recover. Thank you.
Had the same, you need therapy a therapist ho exercise with you! and Google for more videos! I found one how to make my wrist Exercise 🥰🥰💜💜👍👍And a Ball to gat the Stiffness out off the fingers! I hadn’t any metal plaids no OPs 🤷♀️🤷♀️😢😢😢
This may be duplicated. I broke both of my wrists 4 wks ago, surgery 3 weeks ago and now casts on both wrists. still struggling with pain. yesterday it was about 7/8 before medications. Any suggestions? And should I be doing PT while still in casts? Thank you. Your teaching style is very calming; these injuries have made me even more anxious than normal. Thank you!
I had fractured radius right wrist two months ago.... surgery with splint...moved my fingers all time after surgery so that the joints /knuckles wont go stiff....massage your fingers upwards as often as you want to avoid swelling as blood flow may be not so smooth with cast on but no worries...just move and massage the fingers...then wait till cast or splint is off and k-wire is out, then do guided wrist /arm /fingers exercises to regain strength with your PT...lastly...think positive and aim to be better each day...it works coz i have tried it...good luck, friend
Who else had this pop up on their UA-cam? With out, doing any type of Internet searching only talking on the phone and texting and being in the emergency room recovery with a wrist fracture with my phone Off! I guess we are being heard!!
I don't know what's up with my wrist but I can't bend it 90 degrees also I hear weird bone cracking when trying to bend it. It's been like this for past 2 and half years.
I broke my wrist Sept 15, had a cast for six weeks, & once the cast was taken off, I have no use of my left hand & my wrist is frozen. Going to PT, trying to get my fingers to work again.
My wrist was broken almost 2 years ago from an exploding airbag (I was blowing the horn at the time I was hit.). I have had 4 surgeries - first one applied external fixator on the day of the accident, second surgery 2 days later to insert a plate/screws, third one about 7 weeks later to remove the external fixator, then about 13 months later replace the plate with a bigger one (not planned, but necessary) and also did some bone grafts. I have done physical therapy 3 times a week off and on for two years (until recently), and continue my stretching and strengthening exercises daily. I have little to no supination, cannot make a fist, have little strength when using my wrist, and it constantly feels as though there is a rubberband around my wrist. I take 1200 mg of calcium with vitamin D3 daily. I was 59 years old at the time of the accident, was in very good health, and lived an active life with physical activities - bowling, fishing, dog training/activities, ziplining, kayaking, swimming, and grandchildren. I can no longer do these things, at least not comfortably. My surgeon has been very vague about my prognosis, saying that I will "always know I broke my wrist". He originally said that my wrist was "pulverized" and that there was "lots and lots and lots" of bone fragments (dusting - he might have said?). Sorry to be so long-winded ... My "Question" is - Is there any way to tell if my recovery to date (7/9/2018 to 5/21/2020) is as good as I'm going to get? My doctor said that the plate and screws are not interfering with the range of motion, and that there is a lot of scar tissue hampering movement (which he attempted to manipulate during my last surgery - VERY PAINFUL AFTERWARDS!). I just need to know if I need to make concessions for the things I can no longer do, or hope for more recovery. I appreciate any info you can provide. This has been hell!!!
A S my one from seventh grade is completely healed but I had a pin last year with it and my wrist now is healed but I have plates so I have to get them off in July

I had two plates in my wrist.. One on the palm side of the radius and one on the outer side.. Two nice scars to talk about for years to come.. I had the outer plate taken out on Monday.. The surgeon made the incision along the same line when they fitted it...
@Kacper Musialkowski when I smoked about a week after surgery my wrist started to tingle and the pain increased. Do you have a clue why that might be ?

So lets hope this heals on its own in the set up...question is is there a chance that it could become dislocated between now and the 6 weeks? It never really hurt bad but now at the 2 week mark my corner of my wrist is starting to hurt some..help I'm scared! The ER did not even show me the xrays they took just said it was broken but not the bad dislocated break..even told me all this in a public waiting room!!!
I had minor pain when I fractured my wrist. I slipped on wet floor and my hand came right under my butts. I ignored the fracture. Now its almost 2 years. There is not a slightest pain. But I cannot do certain exercises like pull ups, pull downs (2 or 3 kg is fine), weightlifting, any dumbells beyond 2 kg. Doing so feels like my hand gonna come detached from the wrist. Thats it. 😢
I broke my bone and the incident was long time ago, I don’t have full range of my wrist anymore what do I do
I broke both my wrist and got surgery on them, had casts on for 6 weeks trying to get back on my bike now

Hi Alan, we're sorry to hear that your recovery didn't go as hoped.
I broken my wrist over two years ago. Now several times a year I get the broken wrist pain and swelling if I barely injure it or work it kinda hard.
You very lucky please note we can loose our life any minute, please be careful!💜💜💗💗👍👍👍🙏🌹🌹

I did physical therapy as well which helped a lot, I think as long as you know your limits and stay healthy you should heal really fast!
is the metal device put in place permanent or does it get removed later? What are the complications?
Saw in another video that it is permanent but about 5% of ppl get it removed after problems with their tendons. It’s made out of titanium and doesn’t cause trouble at airports
@@natashao3728 2 jobs I worked at the metal detector kept going off on my wrist, the hand held one

Julie I broke my right wrist 4 weeks ago. Surgery etc... how are you going and what can u do?
I had fractured radius right wrist two months ago.... surgery with splint...moved my fingers all time after surgery so that the joints /knuckles wont go stiff....massage your fingers upwards as often as you want to avoid swelling as blood flow may be not so smooth with cast on but no worries...just move and massage the fingers...then wait till cast or splint is off and k-wire is out, then do guided wrist /arm /fingers exercises to regain strength with your PT...lastly...think positive and aim to be better each day...it works coz i have tried it...good luck, friend

Damn your case sounds serious. I hope you're doing better by now.
I'm 55yrs ... and 4 weeks post operation and shit scared. Naturally my dominant hand...
