Katie did a fantastic job for her first time! That’s not easy especially for the first time. I guess the teacher had a lot to do with it though lol. Great video as usual. Thanks for sharing.
My first impressions when learning to drive trucks were (1) a lot of tree-trimming doesn't take large vehicles into account, and (2) a lot of ordinary motorists have no idea how long it would take you to stop when they cut in and out in front of you.
Awesome job girl, several more hours of driving, First of all get that seat adjusted so that you are more comfortable. Floating gears is easy once you understand that truck the clutch is only used to start and stop. Have a great harvest...
Nice cab corn ,, now I can brag ,, I have never had cab corn , with hundreds of hours running a combine,, but I have never run a combine with a cab on it . OK i have put grain down my back , but does that count ?? Katie , you did a great job < you will just get better.
The no 1 thing I teach drivers/operators is get to know how the seat works and get it right, so you will not have the extra struggle when driving/operating, especially learning to drive/operate. So adjust the seat for a few parameters. 1, Peddle push length, 2/. Height to have clear view around you. and 3/. Length to press farthest item you need to press or adjust when driving, plus feel the room of the stick shift to make sure you are not in the way of it movements.. I do all this before I start any vehicle I drive.. If you have issues, you know before hand, instead of finding out when driving, therefore can plan accordingly.. Repeat everything above after you adjust the seat. A comfortable seat means easier to operate and less pains (both emotional and physical pain) after a long period of time. If you are struggling within a short time, find a safe place to stop (put vehicle in safe idle mode) and readjust seat. Practice makes perfect. Always gets in the habit to plan the journey for obstacles.
Hard to get cab corn on an old massy 850. She did good for first time. I never had problems with tractors on the farm. But every time I got in a manual vehicle I’d stall it. Now I daily drive a manual. Semi first time I stalled out the old Mack.
Best place to learn, out in the middle of country. Unfortunately I didn't have that luxury and got pushed right out in the middle of everywhere was traffic. I learned quick... it was do or die.
I am a fan of Farmers, however I believe that you should be wearing safety harnesses when climbing on top of the storage bins. Plus the ladders up the side of the bins should have cages so you can attach the safety equipment.
For the cab corn issue maybe you could somehow fasten a plastic tote or something up there and then when it gets loaded go up with a clean shop vac and suck it out and either put it in a separate container so you can do what you said like buy pop or whatever for the shop with what would’ve been lost or just suck it if top with the shop vac with no box or anything just right off the cab!! Well that’s my 2 cents on the deal!!
Your down shifting is interesting. I was always taught to give it more throttle to pop it out and then let off and then get back into it to get it in the lower gear! Never use the clutch to down shift
Yeah 2 ways to do it! I see a lot of people do it the way I do. I get the truck down to 1000-1200 rpm, slightly push in clutch just enough to get out of gear then rev up and float the lower gear. For me I feel I have more control as I’m reducing speed. I don’t like revving up while I’m gear to slow down, feels odd to me. Always multiple ways to do it, just whatever you’re comfortable with.
I never thought I could ever learn to float, now I'm not so sure I could double-clutch. I sure as heck can't drive a passenger stick/snycro'd transmission. I'll stall it 2-3 times before figuring it out.
Curious why you aren't floatin the downshift as well? No different then floating the up shift. Let off accelerator, Preload the shifter, lightly tap the accelerator and she pops right out of gear. Much easier and quicker then using the clutch imo.. I know everyone has there own driving styles but the only time i use the clutch is Start/stops or if its Sticking in a gear / isn't fully going into gear then ill tap the clutch quickly.
I’ve been driving a lot lately and I tried that quite a bit one day. I didn’t mind it but sometimes it gets jumpy trying to get it out of gear. By just slightly pushing the clutch in to get it out I feel I have total control. Just me though
Yeah, first thing before driving is adjust your seat and mirrors to a proper conformable position! Other than that, she was pretty calm for a first time which helps a lot learning and driving fine after!
Get her to watch my video. "Three Ways To Shift a 13 Speed". If she watches that she should have a better idea what makes a truck go. Drive safe! Let me know how it goes.
Two questions to expect on your CDL road test: (1) What was the clearance on that overpass you just went under? (2) What was the weight limit on that bridge you just went over?
Nice job , just feel in to gear and out of gear , it’s called synchronized shifting the object of it without a clutch is the ground speed of the tires and the drive shaft need to be the same speed ( synchronized) 1500 to 2100 will shift Easley with out a clutch , you can shift all the time with the clutch you just need to adjust for RPMs and road , thanks BigAl California. Praise Jesus Christ grace amen 🙏
Ok just went over and took a look see Sara farms , all of you need to go over and subscribe to Sara farms she committed about your shifting all Christian family over there they farm in Colorado and truck and things in cows 🐄 too thanks BigAl California praise Jesus Christ grace amen 🙏

Love this! She did great. I learned 40 years ago. Her first day was better than mine! I had an owly old guy that yelled at me constantly. 😂🤦♂️

We all start somewhere, she definitely did a good job, keep going and you'll be floating them gears by no time! Keep it up 🤟🏾
She did pretty good
Awesome job Katie!
Katey is a quick learner. You could mention she can watch the Tach drop 500 RPMs then grab the next gear depending on the transmission .
Hey 👋 from Tennessee 🌹 ☕🌞...... you be careful out there girl
Great job
Dude my day is so much better when you upload
Thank you!
Good job girl you’ll be banging those gears in no time
At least you could have put some air in the seat! She couldn't even see over the dash! 😂😂😂
Ya, but sitting on the floor is how its done!
She is doing good
She rocked it
She’s doing great
She'll be wanting that electric roll tarp back on her rig;)

She did pretty good, I tell people you only need the clutch to get moving and if you're on a down grade not a all!

Better than nothing I’d assume lol
If you put a little pressure on the stick before you shift it is a lot easier to get it out of gear when you’re shifting up

@@mannfamilyfarms381 Exactly the way I downshift.
I think everybody should have to drive a semi to carry a license, that way they would know what it takes to turn, stop and accelerate a big truck!
She did well!
That's better than have somebody hollering at u with u trying to learn
Grind'em till you find'em 🤣
Way to go Katey!
I never thought I could ever learn to float, now I'm not so sure I could double-clutch. I sure as heck can't drive a passenger stick/snycro'd transmission. I'll stall it 2-3 times before figuring it out.
She’s got a good teacher? She will do fine Don’t be nervous just pay attention.
as a fello CDL-A driver we need to see he in the truck all the time from now on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s a lot to ask lol
Really only need clutch to stop and go
I use it to take out of gear to down shift. I feel I have more control than doing a high rev to get out of gear
Not to bad.she will get it with practice.

When learning to shift you should put your hand over hers and guide her through it give her the feel.
Yes I should’ve
She is doing well
Like my dad used to say son if u can't find them grind them lol
😂😂
i love the video
Thanks!
Move the seat up and raise the back of the seat so she will be sitting to reach the petals.

To low and not enough… 😂
Search UA-cam for "Can-Opener Bridge."
I want to try and drive a truck and I can tell she would be way better than me lol
Then u would just over fill your mini hopper. And u would have window corn lol.
Exactly always pushing it
What engine is in this?
