If that was his first time driving that truck then you should be damn proud of what he did and stop riding him so hard! It's easy for you because you know what your doing but nobody is going to learn that in one day. it takes time to learn how to shift, especially on floating! Man this brings back memories of when I started learning how to drive with my dad sitting in the sleeper screaming at me while I tried to get it in gear. Your brother did great job in my opinion for a first timer
ill give him props for that he seemed to get the hang of it. i remember when my dad let me drive a semi its was a pain trying to figure out the gears and shift patterns and that jake brake sounded amazing
I let my nephew drive the rotator around the yard and on some back roads. We turned around a curb and almost lost it! Had to turn it left a bit. He did great. Had him drive it a lot in the yard. He is 15. Had him drive it around the yard slow to get used to it and shift smoothly. I then drove up to some back roads and had him drive it. Kid did great. Turning the truck for him was a pain, and taking off too. Once he got it going he was good. Great to see you are teacher your brother. My brother wouldn’t do any of this he isn’t interested lol. I’m lucky my nephew is interested and likes driving the truck he has fun
Honestly the portion when you down shifted through every gear was verrrrrry impressive (at least to me). I am a novice at best and all we have are 8LL transmissions in my families two tri-axles and I wish I had someone like you to teach me. I do the same thing your little brother does by rushing my shifts most of the time, and revving to high on the down shifts. I think a lot of it is just being nervous. Just remember don't get to frustrated w/ your brother. That can be the biggest deterrent to wanting to keep practicing.
Sooo cool. I was a adult when my dad called and said meet him at the KW dealer I needed to test drive a truck for him. 13 speed big cat. We went on about a 5 mile test drive.. He said I was Smooooth. We got back my step mom said I floated out of the cab. Keep up the good work kid. I pull ISO tankers now. Gotta be smooth and steady with those.
