I never realized how absolutely much I liked Chrissie. Now that I'm older seeing her she drags me back to my younger mind.

In 1990 Chrissie Hynde was 38, facing the challenges of becoming a middle-aged single mother with a grade-school daughter to raise on her own. By that time, she had divorced Ray Davies of the Kinks and Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, and was the sole remaining member of the original Pretenders. She released her fifth Pretenders album that year to lackluster reviews, the first since dissolving her reconstituted touring band in the late 80's. In short, she was persevering through the lowest depths of her career, with nothing more than her own talent and determination to sustain her. She could have easily retired at that point, devoted her time to raising her family, and no one would have faulted her in the least. Instead, she put her band back together, along with her original drummer, and went on to record "I'll Stand By You", one of the most iconic ballads of her repertoire. Her subsequent acoustic album, recorded live in a televised concert, revisited each stage of her career with disarmingly personal performances as bold and defiant as ever. Chrissie Hynde is not only the "Last of the Independents", she is one of the most fearless and authentic voices of our time.

@@newgabe09 actually she is releasing another album in August. I pre-ordered it. I just read her auto-biography and it was absolutely fascinating. And there is an interview on Australia 60 minutes with her and Stevie Nicks. Imma tell you, if I had not read that book I wouldn’t have understood her reaction to some criticism that the interviewer was confronting her with. I am going to stand firm right now and say that after what she went through to try and make her dream of being in a band come true she has every right to tell anyone to go bleep themselves. 😂 She didn’t give herself any credit for her success but pointed out in the entire book where she messed up.

it's a damn shame about James Honeycutt-Scott. That sound they had went away when he died. I do like songs like "Middle of the Road" and "Chang Gang" but ultimately they never had that darker sound that wouldn't have gotten played at weddings and bar mitzvahs but was the real shit about the truth of life.

She doesn't look great here, by her standards anyway. She had a lot to deal with in the 80s though with the high profile break ups with Ray and Jim, Jimmy and Pete dying, a fall out with Martin and the band losing popularity, plus she once said her baby daughters would often be screaming for her as she left to play gigs. Am so glad she stayed strong and is better than ever!
