I worry about David. He doesn’t sound well. Disappearing for 14 years isn’t a good sign. It suggests depression. I think his divorce was a real blow to his soul as well.

I’d heard he had had a back injury of some kind. I can tell you from personal experience, it can have serious psychological affects on a person, aside from the physical pain.
It's true, his back injury dates from early Japan during a Tour in Australia, he fell from the stage and they immediately took him to the hospital and i think it was a really severe injury because he needed injections for the pain and i believe they told him to rest but they needed to keep touring and record so he could've possibly worsen his case and caused irreversible damage to his back and for this you can tell of how he was more active in stage vs early 80s performances, where he's moving less and playing the piano more @@sama3033

David Sylvian has above all stayed true to himself . a real artist creating from the heart .I consider myself a massive Japan fan but I understand why he had to break away to pursue where his real creative side lies . above all he's living his life happy and not in the constraints of a band or hungry record company .
I agree totally , I've since I first heard *The Tenant* from Obscure Alternatives , followed with the timeless track from QLife album ,* The Other Side of Life " was David's Vision , I couldn't see it at the time I was too young , but as I've re evaluated over time who would agree these two tracks , I mean by the time GTP was released , it's different level pure magic with (eg Nightporter release}that leading into Tin Drum . An amazing man in many ways. David may not wish to listen back to his music with Japan but if he did I'm pretty sure he'd be proud of the music he made then. Amazing sound, great music imo. He may not choose to listen but I'm on it all the time! x

I so agree , he is I think in a void , he's not , and I say this with anticipation, he's not content to leave unfinished work in his studio , his self doubt ,his audience have far from forgotten what David Sylvian , David Sylvian,not just a man , but a guy who had a vision far beyond appearances on Top of the Pops or a jukebox jury guest on Roundtable post Japan , and what band gets an award for best album 20 years after it's release ( Tin Drum), personally that's insulting , insulting to great musicians and writers , and to the fans who were angry at pathetic reviews only worth reading whilst "Eating your Fish and Chips " they were so meaningless .He didn't want to be a pin up ,or in someone's scrapbook , he wanted this vision to cast away the last few bad months they must have all been under . I’ve followed his career, out of Japan and really latched on to his genius when Gone to Earth came out. It remains a singular masterpiece in my opinion, Spirit of the Beehive not far behind. Wish he’d given many more interviews but as an introvert I understand his need for isolation.

David will always be an absolute favorite of mine. While I haven't loved everything he's done musically, much of the music that he's made over the years continues to speak to my soul in a deep sort of way that nothing else can match.

David has always been a recluse at heart, but his current lifestyle is a complete mystery to me. No harm in that, but I've not heard anyone report a conversation with him or any kind of contact for years. Just how isolated is he?
Is David ok. I can imagine a gifted misanthrope with deep sensitivity must be affected by Americans devolution. The assumption is he’s somehow found a sense of separation from Americas culture? He’s been a aesthetic anchor for me since 1980, David if anything else has proven fairly unpredictable walking away from what could have been a profitable decade. I held a strange resentment after Hammersmith in 82, which funnily enough I hold onto still, my weak fan pathology I guess . Obscure Alternatives , in Vogue & Rhodesia , I guess we’re perceived by me as a pleasant place to visit, unfortunately David was obviously disappointed with the growing outcome of Japan. If he’s healthy, happy & successful then I’m ok with this lingering melancholy i still feel 40 years on.
I feel much the same way. Was a true Japan fan, loved them and went to their gigs. I saw them in Brighton on same tour I think and did see them in Hammersmith Odeon too (the lobby was full of David clones). Fabulous shows and fabulous memories. The fact that I’m / we are still listening to David definitely confirms that love.
I still think David's best work was with Japan between 1979 and 1982, plus his work with Sakamoto in 1982/83 and his first solo album Brilliant Trees in 1984. Not so much a fan of his music since then to be honest. Thanks for the interview.

What it was , Japan were very rated in an * over rated era of "talentless bands*/ one hit Wonderboys and girls , singing about Love, repeated verses x 12 in a 3 minute 7" single ,,I'll not be unfair to name the typical band etc because they may mean something to others , but just look who was in the Top 20 album chart in November 1981 when Tin Drum was released , it'll answer my comment , but you are spot on ...All the best
I'll be honest. Been a very long-term fan of Sylvian (since 'Tin Drum' was first released), but I do find his more abstract, experimental work frustrating and, frankly, a bit boring. Still, he can knock out a great song when he's up for it, so I've always stuck around for those rare concessions to harmony and structure. Especially enjoyed his work with Sakamoto (RIP).

David not looking back at the work of Japan reminds me of Prince, who also always looked forward and didn't like to look back. David, however, takes it to the next level by not playing Japan songs when he toured. Prince, on the other hand DID play much of his older music from his career. I think it would've been great had David had the intellect and optimism to fully look back at the work he created with Japan because the five albums of work greatly inspired me. It had structure and commerciality in a way that disappeared from David's solo work as it progressed. All that Japan music going back to their first album has touched countless lives throughout the planet and it's full of passion, spirit, innovation, intelligence, fearlessness and gravitas. Personally, I think if David were to look back at all the songs he created with Japan, maybe he would be inspired by some of the music of that era of his life and reinterpret the musical styles into new music that he would create in the 21st century. As David's solo career progressed and he moved away from songwriting in a traditional and commercial sense, his music resonated with me less and less. To me, the peak of Japan was Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Quiet Life. By the time of Tin Drum, it lacked the upbeat, dynamic, danceable quality that songs like Life in Tokyo, Methods of Dance, Gentleman Take Polaroids, Halloween, European Son and Quiet Life and even the glorious Swing exhibited. I feel they should've explored that direction a lot more than they did because that was the musical direction they took that inspired me the most then and to this day. I was taken aback when their final album Tin Drum arrived. Not only was founding guitarist Rob Dean gone, but so was that exhilarating sound in the songs mentioned above. It almost became a David Sylvian solo album in sound and scope and its the only album of theirs I have no need to revisit because it's such a disappointing departure to me. I can't get over David deliberately walking away from the New Romantic meets Disco type dance style that I absolutely adored. I was gobsmacked and still am. On a side note when David was talking about his creative involvement with the album covers, it always bothered me with Japan's 3rd, 4th and 5th albums that only David was on the cover. I always felt that since Japan was a band, all five members should have been on the cover in an artistic way, except of course for their final album Tin Drum, which would've been the four of them minus guitarist Rob Dean. Ultimately by David being so resistant to looking back, he's doing his legacy a disservice. How glorious would it be for him to be involved in the reissue of Japan's back catalogue, complete with up-to-date liner notes and essays written by him. Also he could go back in and craft new remixes and new re-imaginings of Japan's past work, be involved in the remastering as well as release any unreleased songs and demos that have never come out. He could even reassemble the remaining members Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and Rob Dean to finish any unfinished songs they may have in their collection of unreleased works. By bringing up musician Scott Walker, it's almost like David is using Scott's disinterest in looking back as an excuse to justify him not looking back. At the end of the day I'm disappointed that David has not listened to a note of Japan's music since the band broke up. It's disappointing, depressing and sad. Of course it's his choice. I just don't agree with it.

The thing with Tin Drum is its Chinese-influenced sound. The album revolved around that theme, and while I do think it's a great album, I also noticed some of the things you mentioned. It was somewhat "gimmicky", and while it worked ("Ghosts" was their biggest hit), it didn't do so without taking a huge toll on the band's emotional range, and I find Dave in particular being the most affected member by such constraints. Like you said, there is no upbeat quality like in Methods of Dance, to which I also add there is no emotionally touching songs like Nightporter on it (and Ghosts is not at that level). The irony is that, while David had the aforementioned limitations, it was his brother Steve who benefited the most with the album, as I find his drum work in the album very stellar, to the point I feel he puts at the same level of quality as Mick Karn, who, suffice to say, was an incredibly versatile musician. The difference between Mick and Steve is that Mick's quirkiness gave him some sort of independence from the rest of the band, while Steve was mostly the pillar for it.
Your opinion on Tindrum is what it is, not really agreeing with that the lack of "dance tracks" makes it a lesser album. It's different music and should be judged by a different standard. But if I listen to Oil on Canvas, I think the running order presented there sounds pretty cohesive. Apart from the obvious Asian (or well, Chinese) influences, I think they probably wanted to pursue something different and experiment more. They could have done another Quiet Life or Gentleman, but it probably would have been less fulfilling and the result perhaps not in the same league as those records anyways. But it certainly does not sound like a Sylvian record, on the contrary. There is too much presence from Mick, Steve, and Richard. I do have to correct you on one thing: Sylvian DID play Ghosts during some of his later tours. So even he did not escape a dwelling with the past even though for him it could have been easier as Japan is a different band and Prince's music is all Prince.
Lighthearted is not exactly how David Sylvian seems to be, after 14 years of total silence he don't sound as a person were you can have a good laugh with, but on the other hand, he was always a serieus person, even in the days with Japan he was already.
Artist like David Bowie , Peter Gabriel , Steven Wilson and David Sylvian and Prince are really Special like Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell are Artist who pushed Boundaries and there Music and Vision are Timeless . I've always liked David's work with Robert Fripp from Gone to Earth to Damage . Love David's Experimental work as well. Nice to hear David's Voice. A Gentle Soul whom I wish Peace & Love to him. David has walked through the Fire Health Wise . John Lennon Sang about Watching the Wheels getting off that Merry go Round . After 14 years I hope we can hear his Muse and Creative Vision in this World of Chaos . David Music is very Healing.

An absolute genius saw Japan in 81/82 & Sylvian many times , I’ve come back to listen again & he sound like he is weak in his speaking voice , I hope he’s well I have been musically on his journey from the beginning until now , I heard his vocals on the French artist track & I have to admit vocally he sounds amazing

Japan made brilliant, fantastic pop records. Looked supremely cool. I always thought the cerebral ambitions were a bit dull and pretentious though. Can't say ive changed.

They automatically say one of two songs , Quiet Life and Ghosts , let's face it , no one was dancing in 1978/9 to Love is Infectious or Don't Rain on My Parade . The band had in my mind got a really great sound that gave them their brand I'll put it as with Quiet Life album , it had raw street sound with Halloween and Alien , then the sound that David self consciously along with Mick Karn with The Other Side of Life with a couple of covers to keep ,let's face it , the band afloat , without success in Japan we'd not be chatting Quiet life . You gotta admit Gentleman Take Polaroids was a breath of fresh air when compared to what id never spend pocket money on that was in the charts at that time , thank god for Cabaret Voltaire, Cocteau Twins , Bill Nelson , it was an awful era for Japan to be , and this is where I'll agree , frustrated , Bored , I mean Japan just finished the recording of Tin Drum and a Certain Mr "Le Bon" was asking in Virgin Records if David wanted a copy of their demo ! That would send me into nowhere land , but thanks for your input , and like I said it was like excellent music sending serious contenders against one another , once a band start to drift it's all over ...👍

I’m very late to hear this but hearing his thoughts as of a year and a half ago is such a treat. I’m so very happy to hear that David still considers Japan’s work to be some of the best at the time even though they didn’t, and still don’t, get the recognition they deserve(d). While David may be selective about what he shares I’m so grateful for what he does via any medium.

The disjointed cut ups of Japan tracks are annoying and distracting. I'm sure that David would find this unnecessary and perhaps disrespectful considering the nature and content of this piece.. It is enough to just hear his voice and thoughts.
That’s an interesting question given his restless exploration and evolution. David strikes me an artist of both intense sophistication and rare integrity. I feel his best and most fully-realized solo material is on Gone to Earth and Secrets of the Beehive. The closest he came to this vision with Japan early on would be tracks like “Ghosts” or “Nightporter”. I’m a big fan of the Rain Tree Crow album and feel as fans we were blessed to hear him revisit an even better synthesis of what was possible for him in a band setting.
I love a lot of David's work but much of the last few albums has been awful. Hard to believe that the the person who wrote Secrets of the Beehive and Gone to Earth also wrote the dire Manafon.
Art is first and foremost about personal expression, not about creating product strictly to appease an audience, and in that sense DS has remained just as true to himself, and thus artisticly alive and vital, through Manafon as with Brilliant Trees, a quality very rare in aging recording artists and musicians.

That's not what it was. Rather, once Virgin's money was not there, getting the kinds of performances and guest shots (much less a full band playing together) as on prior albums was not going to be possible. In fact, the very best song of his later period came via inspiration by traveling the United States, the wonderful song "Beautiful Country." It's worth finding.
@@wereleeroads9311 Firstly, I have to say that I've only listened to "Beautiful country" the once, but although it's quite possible that I might've been missing something that would only become apparent to me with repeated listens; I thought it was possibly the least inspired song I've ever heard from Sylvian.

I’d heard he had had a back injury of some kind. I can tell you from personal experience, it can have serious psychological affects on a person, aside from the physical pain.

It's true, his back injury dates from early Japan during a Tour in Australia, he fell from the stage and they immediately took him to the hospital and i think it was a really severe injury because he needed injections for the pain and i believe they told him to rest but they needed to keep touring and record so he could've possibly worsen his case and caused irreversible damage to his back and for this you can tell of how he was more active in stage vs early 80s performances, where he's moving less and playing the piano more @@sama3033

David Sylvian has above all stayed true to himself . a real artist creating from the heart .I consider myself a massive Japan fan but I understand why he had to break away to pursue where his real creative side lies . above all he's living his life happy and not in the constraints of a band or hungry record company .
I agree totally , I've since I first heard *The Tenant* from Obscure Alternatives , followed with the timeless track from QLife album ,* The Other Side of Life " was David's Vision , I couldn't see it at the time I was too young , but as I've re evaluated over time who would agree these two tracks , I mean by the time GTP was released , it's different level pure magic with (eg Nightporter release}that leading into Tin Drum . I so agree , he is I think in a void , he's not , and I say this with anticipation, he's not content to leave unfinished work in his studio , his self doubt ,his audience have far from forgotten what David Sylvian , David Sylvian,not just a man , but a guy who had a vision far beyond appearances on Top of the Pops or a jukebox jury guest on Roundtable post Japan , and what band gets an award for best album 20 years after it's release ( Tin Drum), personally that's insulting , insulting to great musicians and writers , and to the fans who were angry at pathetic reviews only worth reading whilst "Eating your Fish and Chips " they were so meaningless .He didn't want to be a pin up ,or in someone's scrapbook , he wanted this vision to cast away the last few bad months they must have all been under . I’ve followed his career, out of Japan and really latched on to his genius when Gone to Earth came out. It remains a singular masterpiece in my opinion, Spirit of the Beehive not far behind. Wish he’d given many more interviews but as an introvert I understand his need for isolation.

David will always be an absolute favorite of mine. While I haven't loved everything he's done musically, much of the music that he's made over the years continues to speak to my soul in a deep sort of way that nothing else can match.

Is David ok. I can imagine a gifted misanthrope with deep sensitivity must be affected by Americans devolution. The assumption is he’s somehow found a sense of separation from Americas culture? He’s been a aesthetic anchor for me since 1980, David if anything else has proven fairly unpredictable walking away from what could have been a profitable decade. I held a strange resentment after Hammersmith in 82, which funnily enough I hold onto still, my weak fan pathology I guess . Obscure Alternatives , in Vogue & Rhodesia , I guess we’re perceived by me as a pleasant place to visit, unfortunately David was obviously disappointed with the growing outcome of Japan. If he’s healthy, happy & successful then I’m ok with this lingering melancholy i still feel 40 years on.
I wish he's lighten up a bit though. He just seems to take himself so very seriously.
I feel much the same way. Was a true Japan fan, loved them and went to their gigs. I saw them in Brighton on same tour I think and did see them in Hammersmith Odeon too (the lobby was full of David clones). Fabulous shows and fabulous memories. The fact that I’m / we are still listening to David definitely confirms that love.

I still think David's best work was with Japan between 1979 and 1982, plus his work with Sakamoto in 1982/83 and his first solo album Brilliant Trees in 1984. Not so much a fan of his music since then to be honest. Thanks for the interview.

Japan were a really underrated band
What it was , Japan were very rated in an * over rated era of "talentless bands*/ one hit Wonderboys and girls , singing about Love, repeated verses x 12 in a 3 minute 7" single ,,I'll not be unfair to name the typical band etc because they may mean something to others , but just look who was in the Top 20 album chart in November 1981 when Tin Drum was released , it'll answer my comment , but you are spot on ...All the best
I'll be honest. Been a very long-term fan of Sylvian (since 'Tin Drum' was first released), but I do find his more abstract, experimental work frustrating and, frankly, a bit boring. Still, he can knock out a great song when he's up for it, so I've always stuck around for those rare concessions to harmony and structure. Especially enjoyed his work with Sakamoto (RIP).

David not looking back at the work of Japan reminds me of Prince, who also always looked forward and didn't like to look back. David, however, takes it to the next level by not playing Japan songs when he toured. Prince, on the other hand DID play much of his older music from his career.
I think it would've been great had David had the intellect and optimism to fully look back at the work he created with Japan because the five albums of work greatly inspired me. It had structure and commerciality in a way that disappeared from David's solo work as it progressed. All that Japan music going back to their first album has touched countless lives throughout the planet and it's full of passion, spirit, innovation, intelligence, fearlessness and gravitas.
Personally, I think if David were to look back at all the songs he created with Japan, maybe he would be inspired by some of the music of that era of his life and reinterpret the musical styles into new music that he would create in the 21st century.
As David's solo career progressed and he moved away from songwriting in a traditional and commercial sense, his music resonated with me less and less.
To me, the peak of Japan was Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Quiet Life. By the time of Tin Drum, it lacked the upbeat, dynamic, danceable quality that songs like Life in Tokyo, Methods of Dance, Gentleman Take Polaroids, Halloween, European Son and Quiet Life and even the glorious Swing exhibited.
I feel they should've explored that direction a lot more than they did because that was the musical direction they took that inspired me the most then and to this day.
I was taken aback when their final album Tin Drum arrived. Not only was founding guitarist Rob Dean gone, but so was that exhilarating sound in the songs mentioned above. It almost became a David Sylvian solo album in sound and scope and its the only album of theirs I have no need to revisit because it's such a disappointing departure to me. I can't get over David deliberately walking away from the New Romantic meets Disco type dance style that I absolutely adored. I was gobsmacked and still am.
On a side note when David was talking about his creative involvement with the album covers, it always bothered me with Japan's 3rd, 4th and 5th albums that only David was on the cover. I always felt that since Japan was a band, all five members should have been on the cover in an artistic way, except of course for their final album Tin Drum, which would've been the four of them minus guitarist Rob Dean.
Ultimately by David being so resistant to looking back, he's doing his legacy a disservice. How glorious would it be for him to be involved in the reissue of Japan's back catalogue, complete with up-to-date liner notes and essays written by him.
Also he could go back in and craft new remixes and new re-imaginings of Japan's past work, be involved in the remastering as well as release any unreleased songs and demos that have never come out. He could even reassemble the remaining members Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri and Rob Dean to finish any unfinished songs they may have in their collection of unreleased works.
By bringing up musician Scott Walker, it's almost like David is using Scott's disinterest in looking back as an excuse to justify him not looking back.
At the end of the day I'm disappointed that David has not listened to a note of Japan's music since the band broke up. It's disappointing, depressing and sad. Of course it's his choice. I just don't agree with it.

The thing with Tin Drum is its Chinese-influenced sound. The album revolved around that theme, and while I do think it's a great album, I also noticed some of the things you mentioned. It was somewhat "gimmicky", and while it worked ("Ghosts" was their biggest hit), it didn't do so without taking a huge toll on the band's emotional range, and I find Dave in particular being the most affected member by such constraints. Like you said, there is no upbeat quality like in Methods of Dance, to which I also add there is no emotionally touching songs like Nightporter on it (and Ghosts is not at that level).
The irony is that, while David had the aforementioned limitations, it was his brother Steve who benefited the most with the album, as I find his drum work in the album very stellar, to the point I feel he puts at the same level of quality as Mick Karn, who, suffice to say, was an incredibly versatile musician. The difference between Mick and Steve is that Mick's quirkiness gave him some sort of independence from the rest of the band, while Steve was mostly the pillar for it.
Your opinion on Tindrum is what it is, not really agreeing with that the lack of "dance tracks" makes it a lesser album. It's different music and should be judged by a different standard. But if I listen to Oil on Canvas, I think the running order presented there sounds pretty cohesive. Apart from the obvious Asian (or well, Chinese) influences, I think they probably wanted to pursue something different and experiment more. They could have done another Quiet Life or Gentleman, but it probably would have been less fulfilling and the result perhaps not in the same league as those records anyways. But it certainly does not sound like a Sylvian record, on the contrary. There is too much presence from Mick, Steve, and Richard.
I do have to correct you on one thing: Sylvian DID play Ghosts during some of his later tours. So even he did not escape a dwelling with the past even though for him it could have been easier as Japan is a different band and Prince's music is all Prince.
Never compare David to Prince..
Lighthearted is not exactly how David Sylvian seems to be, after 14 years of total silence he don't sound as a person were you can have a good laugh with, but on the other hand, he was always a serieus person, even in the days with Japan he was already.

They automatically say one of two songs , Quiet Life and Ghosts , let's face it , no one was dancing in 1978/9 to Love is Infectious or Don't Rain on My Parade . The band had in my mind got a really great sound that gave them their brand I'll put it as with Quiet Life album , it had raw street sound with Halloween and Alien , then the sound that David self consciously along with Mick Karn with The Other Side of Life with a couple of covers to keep ,let's face it , the band afloat , without success in Japan we'd not be chatting Quiet life . You gotta admit Gentleman Take Polaroids was a breath of fresh air when compared to what id never spend pocket money on that was in the charts at that time , thank god for Cabaret Voltaire, Cocteau Twins , Bill Nelson , it was an awful era for Japan to be , and this is where I'll agree , frustrated , Bored , I mean Japan just finished the recording of Tin Drum and a Certain Mr "Le Bon" was asking in Virgin Records if David wanted a copy of their demo ! I’m very late to hear this but hearing his thoughts as of a year and a half ago is such a treat.
I’m so very happy to hear that David still considers Japan’s work to be some of the best at the time even though they didn’t, and still don’t, get the recognition they deserve(d).
While David may be selective about what he shares I’m so grateful for what he does via any medium.
I rediscovered David and other influencial artists a few years ago.

The disjointed cut ups of Japan tracks are annoying and distracting. I'm sure that David would find this unnecessary and perhaps disrespectful considering the nature and content of this piece.. It is enough to just hear his voice and thoughts.

Out of interest , what early Japan material could you hear David's Vision any particular track ?
That’s an interesting question given his restless exploration and evolution. David strikes me an artist of both intense sophistication and rare integrity. I feel his best and most fully-realized solo material is on Gone to Earth and Secrets of the Beehive. The closest he came to this vision with Japan early on would be tracks like “Ghosts” or “Nightporter”. I’m a big fan of the Rain Tree Crow album and feel as fans we were blessed to hear him revisit an even better synthesis of what was possible for him in a band setting.

I love a lot of David's work but much of the last few albums has been awful.
Hard to believe that the the person who wrote Secrets of the Beehive and Gone to Earth also wrote the dire Manafon.

I loved Manafon
Art is first and foremost about personal expression, not about creating product strictly to appease an audience, and in that sense DS has remained just as true to himself, and thus artisticly alive and vital, through Manafon as with Brilliant Trees, a quality very rare in aging recording artists and musicians.

i'm sorry if this sounds rude but i'm just curious, what caused his speaking voice to be so raspy now? is it because of age or his smoking or both???? i can't tell.
I'd say age, the adopted American slight accent , pretty sure David stopped smoking years ago , his Baritone voice now always dominant , a million miles away from the Days of mid "Japan,post break up " where I still say if you listen on tracks like Lovers on Main street, Adolescent sex , I hear a " Mad Ade Edmondson " when he played Vivian on The Young ones ,,, but who knows, Energmatic, chilled, maybe a glass of Red Wine or two or Jamaican Woodbine, he's still the legend we all love , thank you for your comment by the way ,,,ps ,,, check out my link in the channel description and have a listen at a few different settings during Tours with Japan , he was always I think more laid back when he had his sidekick ,Mick Karn with him ( rip Mick )

Thank you very much @Michaelroach , it is wonderful listening to @DavidSylvian after a long time away ,hopefully getting stronger too , I'd like personally to have heard the interview move towards DS feelings of today's up and his personal favourite ( if any ?) new comers , I feel that with his creativity ,even listening to Adolescent sex through to album 5, Tin Drum it actually sounds ,not being biased , timeless ,even the Ariola Hands snubbed first two Japan albums have not surprisingly being listened too at last ! the irony being what /what good/even moreso Bad artistes were in the UK charts in 77/78, Sex Pistols to Rod Stewart ,the first ok ,I love NMTB , but again I'm having a ball tbh ,I'm less stressed these days and just locking one's self in my "Old Lads" pad of a Saturday and savouring Post Brilliant Trees where I got into the House scene at The Hacienda çto right into the early Britpop and Oasis V Blur era.But as I say ,great to hear you @DavidSylvian, also would like to hear people's thoughts on( if there's any truth in all you read ?) The piles of finished recordings with @RobertFripp and possibly with the genius we lost this year @Ryuichisakamoto? That's not what it was. Rather, once Virgin's money was not there, getting the kinds of performances and guest shots (much less a full band playing together) as on prior albums was not going to be possible. In fact, the very best song of his later period came via inspiration by traveling the United States, the wonderful song "Beautiful Country." It's worth finding.
@@wereleeroads9311 Firstly, I have to say that I've only listened to "Beautiful country" the once, but although it's quite possible that I might've been missing something that would only become apparent to me with repeated listens; I thought it was possibly the least inspired song I've ever heard from Sylvian.
