But it simply isn't true: many foods that veg*ns eat _are not alive,_ such as fruits, seeds and grains. The plants and trees which produce them have evolved to make their fruits, seeds, nuts, etc., appealing to animals to be eaten -- often for seed dispersal. Papaya tress "want" their fruit to be eaten; they fall on the forest floor, and local frugivores come along and eat them, and poop the seeds a mile away. Nuts are not "living", neither are seeds. There is no detectible life within them (there only is with seeds, if the conditions are changed to cause them to sprout). So, no: NOT everything that lives, lives off of something else that lives. It is quite possible to live off of things that are no longer alive.

Totally agree with you Chrissie, I have been a vegetarian since I was 15. I get so pissed off with people saying well "Are your shoes leather?" or other inane questions. The irony of me becoming a vegetarian was that my dad was a farmer. He was horrified that I stopped eating meat, I think he thought it was a phase, but I'm now 52 and it's been one hell of a long phase. And for me it is a deal breaker if I meet a guy, if he eats meat no chance.

A personal sacrifice is when a human being makes a conscious decision to give up a certain thing, for the good of someone/something else. An animal who is killed by a human for food, is not making a sacrifice, because the animal has no choice in the matter.
Why do we hang off every word spoken by people like singers and actors? As if their political and social views mean more than anyone else’s. Why do we even ask a singer about things other than music and singing?
Adore Chrissie, but the vegetarian thing is over the top for me. I'd rather that we force producers to follow ethical guidelines. Welfare of the animals should come before profits. There will always be a market for meats, so no need to pretend otherwise. Profits must be secondary if we're going to force a being to end it's life. It's worth noting that early human species could not have survived on plants alone. Eating meats is a reason for the development of our brains and our existence as we are today. So, the next thought is do we still need to rely on meat to exist? Not necessarily, but I don't think it's in the best interests of everyone either. very nice!!! i have the same problem eating with meat eaters..they treat you like handicap person, because you don't eat meat...most of them looks scared...i'm not.it is my choice what i eat and yess,mercy is a big thing,....all living things have soul!!

Chrissie is an intelligent, talented lady and she says, lives by her principles. I won't pay the slaughtermen either. She is so right " one day you are going to be asked for mercy and how much did you give........that is what we should all be thinking about.
