      Except that it makes no sense. Showing mercy to fish is not going to stop a bear from killing and eating you. Animals don't think they just act.
      It's imposing human laws onto nature. Which is actually a more arrogant intellectual principle than just simply eating meat.

    • @herbertwells8757
      @herbertwells8757 8 років тому +6

      JAB5625: You have absolutely no reason to call him a hypocrite. He didn't say he was picketing anyone; he only said he's a vegetarian. In any case, animals eat meat because they don't know any better. Humans can be better than that. Now this is all so extremely obvious and simple that I'm quite sure even you understood it perfectly well before I pointed it out, perfectly well before you posted your asinine comment. So who's the real hypocrite? YOU, pal, you. Check the mirror.

    • @marianhalcombe3305
      @marianhalcombe3305 6 років тому +1

      +PowerTuber 3.0
      We're *self-aware* animals. As far as we know, we're the *only* self-aware animals. That's the difference. We have the power to analyze and go against instinct. Other animals (as far as we know) don't have that power. A lot of them don't value lives outside of their own families. They don't have empathy to the degree that we do.
      Slaughterhouses are awful places in which animals are essentially born to dle.They don't get lives. Most never see the sun. Pigs get their teeth, genitals, and tails ripped off so they don't destroy themselves when they inevitably go insane from months in a cage they can't even turn around in. Chickens are debeaked for the same reason and spend their days stuffed together in a dark, damp, ammonia ridden shed. That's not natural. Hunting is far more natural, but assuming you get your meat from the grocery store, these animals have been through hel*.
      Eating veg may not be normal, but you can't say it's amoral. By what means? Now, a veg may not be morally superior to a carnivore... but if animal abuse is considered amoral and can result in imprisonment, the statement that refusal to eat the animals (i.e. support a system of consistent animal cruelty) is a moral decision is justified.

    I would quibble with her on one thing she said: "Everything that lives, lives off of something else that lives." ( 07:03 ) That is an argument made by meat-eaters to try to justify eating meat; the "you're killing the plants you're eating" shtick. But it simply isn't true: many foods that veg*ns eat _are not alive,_ such as fruits, seeds and grains. The plants and trees which produce them have evolved to make their fruits, seeds, nuts, etc., appealing to animals to be eaten -- often for seed dispersal. Papaya tress "want" their fruit to be eaten; they fall on the forest floor, and local frugivores come along and eat them, and poop the seeds a mile away. Nuts are not "living", neither are seeds. There is no detectible life within them (there only is with seeds, if the conditions are changed to cause them to sprout). So, no: NOT everything that lives, lives off of something else that lives. It is quite possible to live off of things that are no longer alive.

    I'm vegan, and this conversation has happened too many times. Meat eater: You don't eat meat?!! Me: uh, no. Vegan. Meat eater: proceeds to go on about it, drawing dumb comparisons to Australopithecus, bizarre hypotheticals etc. It's very, very tiring. So, please, meat eaters: don't try to defend the practice with "facts and logic" because your arguments are bereft of both.

    I don't eat meat and I live just fine. I, personally, believe that meat eating makes people aggressive and violent.

    • @lilycreekvegan
      @lilycreekvegan 7 років тому +3

      agreed! and meat eating makes folks insane, everyone I know who eats animals has some level of crazy. I've been vegan for almost 20 years and when I think back on how I was when I was a meat head I realize I was totally loony tunes. I mean just the process of eating rotting body parts is complete insanity.

      You might be right. But maybe we need to be a little agressive and violent in order to survive in this society. And we need to be a little crazy as well.

    Totally agree with you Chrissie, I have been a vegetarian since I was 15. I get so pissed off with people saying well "Are your shoes leather?" or other inane questions. The irony of me becoming a vegetarian was that my dad was a farmer. He was horrified that I stopped eating meat, I think he thought it was a phase, but I'm now 52 and it's been one hell of a long phase. And for me it is a deal breaker if I meet a guy, if he eats meat no chance.

      @MsAppassionata 5 років тому

      michelle88960 I don’t think that’s an inane question at all. If you claim to be a vegetarian for moral reasons, but wear leather shoes or other clothing, then you are a hypocrite.

    In a perfect world there would be no bloodshed, but should you take a life give thanks for their sacrifice for your survival.

    • @MissAstorDancer
      @MissAstorDancer 5 років тому +2

      A personal sacrifice is when a human being makes a conscious decision to give up a certain thing, for the good of someone/something else.
      An animal who is killed by a human for food, is not making a sacrifice, because the animal has no choice in the matter.

    Why do we hang off every word spoken by people like singers and actors? As if their political and social views mean more than anyone else’s. Why do we even ask a singer about things other than music and singing?

    Adore Chrissie, but the vegetarian thing is over the top for me. I'd rather that we force producers to follow ethical guidelines. Welfare of the animals should come before profits. There will always be a market for meats, so no need to pretend otherwise. Profits must be secondary if we're going to force a being to end it's life. It's worth noting that early human species could not have survived on plants alone. Eating meats is a reason for the development of our brains and our existence as we are today. So, the next thought is do we still need to rely on meat to exist? Not necessarily, but I don't think it's in the best interests of everyone either. There's a lot more that can be said, but... yea, this is just a UA-cam vid.

    Is it hypocritical if a vegetarian has a carnivore for a pet. ex. a cat How do they see carnivores in the wild?
