I have a Russian dentist in Brooklyn, New York and there's a Russian store nearby that my parents and I always go to after our appointments. They have a crazy good Медовик, it's like crack to me 😂 My mom always gets that dried fish too (she's a soviet immigrant)
I could sit and listen to Crazy Russian Dad talk about the old Soviet Union for days. Tea would need to be involved I look forward to fireplace stories, Crazy Russian Dad.
We have "Maria" biscuits in Norway as well, we just changed the name to "Marie". My friend and I made a bet once on who could eat the most Marie biscuits without drinking any water. 😂
@@BoarReal Well, what I meant is that a lot of Russian stores in the West dropped "Russian" from their names after 2022 - something completely ridiculous. Why agree with this policy? They were and are Russian.
@@barrios160679 but a lot of the products in the stores are from different countries in Eastern Europe too, so this name change is a good way to make it more Diverse than just "Russian shop"
@@BoarReal I know. But this is not the point. They are still called "Russian" among Russian-speaking (and non-speaking) people who shop there. So I don't buy this name change which is a part of a larger "cancel" culture and don't support CRD's playing with it.
@@barrios160679 not everywhere they aren't, in the UK they are called "polish shops" it depends where you live, they should of changed to "eastern European shops" a while ago I believe personally
I found a russian store near me around 2014. I love the pelmeni and other foods. I used to have 3 russian lady coworkers. My grandfather was from russia.
I've never tried pickling the flesh of a watermelon, but down here in the south pickled watermelon rinds are a summer staple. The pickle juice makes a great chaser for vodka, too. I'll have to try pickling watermelon flesh, though. Just never occurred to me. Pickled peaches are a pretty big deal down here.
They said all the time USSR had "food shortage"sure for sometime USSR faced a food crisis but not ALWAYS makes my heart warm seeing you teaching the young generations what good stuff really is 💪 спасибо большое!
It looks so good 😋. The closest Russian Grocery shop is either in San Mateo, CA BZ Bee Market or San Francisco Europa +. I live in Pacifica, CA so it's usually special occasion trips to those & I can get 2 liters of Baikal soda. And trips to San Francisco's Moscow & Tbilsi Bakery who make the best Pieroshkis & Cheese Blinis❣😋
I always go to netcost and bell market and they also have food from Eastern Europe south Europe Asian central Asian Middle Eastern South American Caucasus African American and more which I will be making and cooking foods from around the world
😂😂 Love your videos. I'd love to try Soviet cuisine sometime. Admittedly, my expectations aren't high. I suspect there is a reason Russian restaurants aren't popular outside Russia, vut I am curious!
Its sad you cant be openly proud of your heritage because of discrimination. Funny how fast tgese "do gooders" go from preaching against discrimination to performing it. Stay strong and be proud of who you are man.
Many of the things you said were" only for big holydays" worent nearly as expensive as needed to actually be only for big holidays... I think you wore just in a bad part of the contry or something...
