    I love this era of athletics.
    Cram, Walker and Boit are legends.
    Pity there is no Coe and Ovett in the field.
    Pat Scammell was an accomplished runner, but his long legs too often got tangled with others, not always his fault.

    A 51 second last lap by Cram, and what an amazing sprint at the end. It reminds me of Alberto Juantorena.

      Even faster than 51. It was 50.75, as he was about 3 tenths of a second behind the leader at the bell. Fucking awesome wasn't he!! I believe he could have won the 1984 1500m if he would have been in his prime form. But that's life isn't it, often times injury/illness strikes just before you want to be in the best shape of your life. Cram had his year in the limelight where he was top dog globally, just a shame it was in 1983 a year before the olympics unfortunately. He was ultimately better than Coe and Ovett in the 1500m , the mile and 2000m, even 3000m, its just bad luck that things weren't aligned appropriately for him being able to win the championship that really mattered.

      @@outsiders4951 Cram was destroyed by Coe in the 1984 Olympic 1500 metre final. Both had had injuries prior to that year, with Coe's illness the more serious, but they were both neck and neck with 100 to go and Coe hit the burners and the race was over in seconds. Cram was also in the 1980 Olympic final and finished nowhere while Coe won gold again! Sometimes it's better to just face facts rather than seem bitter. 👍

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 3 місяці тому

      Do you have any proof that Cram or any other European runners were blood doping in this race? To the best of acknowledged views "of that time" it was National Doping programmes, especially from the Eastern Bloc and they used testosterone and anabolic steroids. Although there were exceptions the majority of EPO offences occurred within Cycling and Athletics was believed to be relatively clear of EPO until the 1990's when it was widespread and could be used without detection until around 2,000, but even then if you were clever you could take it before an event, and it would be undetectable on the day of the race! As an example there have been accusations made about EiG from different athletes regarding his massive sudden improvements!

    I think the people who slammed Ovett in the 800m in Moscow don't know much about the sport. Having watched the semi's and final here there was lot's of pushing and jostling and no one moaned, as far as I know, after the races. This is what happen's in races. Watch how Billy Mills was literally shoved and more by Clarke and Gamoudi in the last lap in the 10,000m in Tokyo 1964 and he still won.

    I don't think this is what you hope for in a race. Why not get rid of the first 1100 meters? Very bad. All those runners capable of 10 seconds faster but not wanting to push it. Walker might have had a chance to take it if he had gotten out at least 200 earlier. Not a great race.

    A 50.75 second last lap from Crammy there. Jesus christ, no wonder he was the one mile world record holder/british record holder and olympic 1500m silver medalist, its not a surprise with that kind of speed, even Mo farah couldn't match that speed, he did a 50.89 at the end of a very slow 5000m, but it was REALLY slow, like over 14 minutes, which for Farah is child's play. Both of them anyhow display the kind of speed necessary to mount the podium at the olympics.

      Steve Cram and Muppet Salah had much different "diets". One of the greatest disgraces in athletics is that Steve Cram's record, first sub 3.30 1500 metres, was replaced by a 'junkie'. Even worse than 'Pilford' Christie winning in Barcelona. A lot of the reason I stopped following athletics. It was bad enough when you were left wondering about an athletes diet but those two were of the most prominent liars and cheats ever seen.
