I recall changing next to Dave for the Midlands Cross Country Champs. in the mid-1960s, looking at him and thinking 'you could be the best in the world.' Although he only finished third that day my view didn't change one iota, he proved me correct, and I've admired him for over fifty years.

Proud of the Scots boys here especially Robson gave it his all, Moorcroft was an exceptional runner and ran the perfect race. This was right at the peak of a vintage crop of middle distance runners and this was without Coe and Ovett
@@tommytempo1 Graham Williamson is probably the unluckiest runner from that era, he arguably should have gone to Moscow in 80 but got into a series of runoffs with Cram that did not go his way through a lot of bad luck and iffy selectors .

Whether he won or lost, Filbert Bayi always set up great races when he competed.
Clement with the same HUGE but too late kick we saw in 1976.

A shame that Clement left it too late again, as in Montreal. He would have medalled.
He hadn't set his alarm clock. I never understand why experienced athletes do this.

Surprised to see Tim Hutchings in a 1500m final and, even more so, a very young Steve Cram, who was eliminated in the heats.
Unfortunately, the best of the young athletes at that time - Graham Williamson, was denied the chance to run by the Scottish selectors!

@@johnstirling9120 Williamson also had his spikes stolen prior to the Mile run-off in Oslo 1980!
@@tommytempo1 Steve Ovett said that Graham should have been on the plane to Moscow, had a 3.51 (ish) mile at the time I think.
