Jan Zelezny had already thrown over 90 metres in three early-season competitions before he arrived in the German city of Jena but there still little to suggest that he was going to launch the javelin well beyond 98 metres on this day 24 years ago. The Czech thrower had admittedly topped the annual rankings by the prestigious US magazine Track and Field News for the previous four years, was the ...

The Greatest Runner Of All Time.
record that still has not been broken. 26 years. He was a great champion
doper
I loved watching El G in his prime, amazing athlete - he won’t be holding this record for much longer though. Barring injury Jakob has got this within the next three years. El G has made his mark in history regardless; Jakob’s greatness still unfolding.
Jacob Should run 3.25 with modern light technology pacer If hecham has this light technology in his time he will run 3.25 3.24
@@user-js9kf6dy1q Both athletes immensely talented, but Jakob has the benefit of modern technology as well, hence why I feel he’ll break El G’s record.
This just made my day, I am one of those kids dancing around in the yellow shirts.
Get ready for Jakob Ingebrigtsen's breaking this record..... he just ran 3:26 & change after recently losing training to injury. The writing is ready to be writen.
He will never be nearly as good as elguerrouj regardless
This epnt Happen. Ingebrigtsen still needs .75 Seconds. This is huge😊
He is an extraordinary talent but carbon plates in soles plus light pacing helping as fuck
Wonderful footage of the Redcliffe I used to visit in the 70s. These days, it's home ❤
My left ear enjoyed this.
"Mono" television broadcasting back then.
@@user-wy8sj3ed3fhe last race in Monaco was close let us what would happen the guy is really tough
He will run sub 3:26 next year. The Olympics is his focus this year, and this will not leave enough in his tank for a world record attempt post Olympics.
Forget it

Fantastic race! What an exciting line up for the anchor legs. Freeman did very well to pass Gunnell who was no slouch and an experienced anchor runner. Thanks for posting!
Wow! What an exciting race and exciting atmosphere. Strange choice for the two anchor runners, both sprinters and not 400m specialists. Thanks for posting!

Freeman knew she had effed up. Shame the commentators weren't as clued up 😆
What a great race and thankfully no david jenkins.
If they were to have used the VAR system, Wells would have won. Perhaps VAR should take a look at this race and base their decision on a line through the bodies and not whether one player has had his toenails cut on a given morning.
❤❤❤
Thanks for Posting this, I wanted to See the Last TIme My Country (Canada) Hosted the Commonwealth Games
Scotland 1 and 3 🏴. So so proud 🏴🏴
SHE RAN 50.54. not incredible. decent. 194 women have ran faster and they did it 1850 times. her PB is a whopping 2 seconds faster than this. she was runnnig against complete hacks who couldnt run a sub 60 second 400m. There are under 13 girls that run faster than that every year. this was just a handicapped race designed for everyone to finish at the same time.
This run was on a grass track and she had to run around the other competitors , one of which balked her. It was a few months before she won Olympic Silver. The run would be around the 48 to 49 second mark on a tartan track and not many of your 1850 athletes would even come close to this , or go on to win Olympic Silver.
Anyone know how to see all the times for each athlete?
You can use a stop watch and take the splits yourself. Back then they didn’t universally track the splits like they do presently.
@@mattsilva4377 How do you know when to stop it. Is it that line? Sometimes can be hard to see.
@@FixiSlaptaccount it really is an educated guess. You have to gauge the torso. When either or of the shoulders hits that line; you split. On the lead off I go with the exchange zone.
The relay splits are listed in the description
4:22 What's that Zurich presentation got to do with the Canberra 800m?
Love Cathy, but she made TWO big mistakes! One, she should have moved to the very inside position to receive the baton from Poetschka. (They coulda been DQ’d just from that!) Two, she needed to wait to move to the outside coming off the final turn. She knew Yusuf was right there, and needed to wait til the straightaway to fully pass Yusuf, then bolt outside to try and pass Gunnel. Sad, but the Aussies got DQ’d. England were awarded Gold
Nixon Kiprotich was effortless
I enjoy the fine spirit between Mike and Allan.
This guy Samson Kitur was on 🔥 on that anchor leg for Kenya

Paul Forbes waited 40 years to set a world record!
the World Record for the Men's 60m sprints in 1983 was 6.52 held by Zenon Nowosz of Poland, if you look closely at Paul's 60m sprint in Japan 1983 he ran 6.60 and he "clearly eased up before the finish and he didn't dip", had he of ran at full speed and dipped his time would have been certainly a "World Record" somewhere in the vicinity of 6.50 or lower.
Was that Sandra Sully reporting ?
