Look at that Arcane show on Netflix. That’s a pretty “diverse” show but people love it because the characters are interesting and the show itself is awesome. By the way, I’ve never played League of Legends and I knew literally nothing about it going into the show.

"Show, don't tell". There are plenty of good shows with diverse casts, but that's not their main focus or advertising point.
The Expanse is a great example of "passive diversity" and a show with a damn good story and world-building potential. You don't see the cast or production team announcing from the rooftops how diverse the cast is as the main focus. They dive in head first into the world of The Expanse telling the story they want to tell, and it just so happens that there is a diverse cast present.
They don't beat you over the head with it. The characters and their placment in the story make sense and the politics of the Solar System are independent of those in our era (although there are issues that are universal to humanity in any era), which makes the show something that's pretty refreshing.
If there is a template for how to create a diverse show with a damned good story and world to go with it, while respecting each character and not turning them into a caricature, it's that one.
Lowkey comedy is ending with this generation, cartoons are dead, internet is getting soft and you cant be real without getting cancelled. W video keep up the good work WesSide 🤣

Yah, I'm not ganna lie the fact that it started off by highlighting a lesbian couple as being a lesbian couple really struck me as forced. It didn't really teach me to care for the both of them (After all their just being introduced) it just expected me to care just because their a lesbian couple. Its literally what the show makes as their "defining" character trait on the first episode.

As has been said but nobody listens...the best diversity is passive. Build your characters and paint them later. Your characters can be whatever the fuck you want them to be but make sure your writing is solid or else everything else will fall apart.
Plus it helps to not have people that want to kill all men on your writing team.
This show was doomed the moment they decided to market it with diversity. That's a huge no no. You don't market your projects by making diversity the main point. Black Panther had a majority black cast and it succeeded because the writing was strong, characters were well built and the set pieces and action was stellar. Focus on your content first and foremost.
That issue aside, the art style is fine, but the animation is meh and the voice acting is awful. It seems as though they recorded these lines in one or two takes and called it a day. That's...not how it's supposed to work, assuming that's what happened. You ALWAYS do multiple takes and choose the one that's the best.

The show that took 2 weeks to make and then they sat for almost 4 years afraid to actually release it.
1:20 the cast being "Diverse" as there first talking point and them Immediately cutting over to 95% of their staff having glasses, long colored hair, even their wardrobe got that "look at me I'm quirky" look. (That outfit 2nd on the way right has probably been worn by 95% staff) the only thing diverse about the staff seems be their Hair color and even then, if Thats their first strong point then it just became blah to anyone who didn't see through the facade yet.

Strawberry Shortcake of the 2000's is looking real good now to my boy mind in retrospect. They fought a sea serpent, actually solved problems and was a good slice of life. I would tolerate the "berry, berry" childish dialog because... it markets itself as a children's show!

There's plenty of great modern cartoons these days. This one show doesn't speak for this generation of animation, it's just an example of how NOT to do diversity in cartoons.

@@jonathanoriley8260 The ghost of Molly Mcgee, Amphibia, and The Owl House are 3 great west cartoons that have a female mc and don't suffocate the viewer with forced diversity. Every character is treated as a human being and are written, and animated with care. Owl House's lgbt representation is handled casually and not forced in the slightest. Also the VA for Bill Cipher is in it and he's awesome lol.

Still pretty mad that, most likely, my Crunchyroll subscription money went into this show. When I signed up, I thought it would go back to Japanese creators. That was their big advertising point, after all! As soon as I saw that “diverse” writer’s room I ended my subscription. Crunchyroll got pitched a show called Astur’s Rebellion which looked like a second legend of korra but got turned saying it wasn't diverse enough and instead we got this. Where they focused everything on diversity over quality. Diversity is fine. But it has to have quality.

The main characters of "High Guardian Spice" are named after herbs...they couldn't even come up with spice-themed names for them. Shameful.
And just when you hope the "spice" part means something else, the very end of the season has Rosemary calling her team this "because of [their] names". Hmph, tragic.

its kind of insulting to compare this show to actual anime, and I'm not talking about shitty isekai anime, I'm talking stuff like black lagoon, cow boy bebop, trygun, ghost in the shell and so on and so forth. hell even as a cartoon its sub par, its like the stereotypical ''tumbler art style''. its no wonder people were mad that money that was supposed to go to the anime industry went to.....what ever the fuck this show is supposed to be....

Your right, lots of animals in the wilderness use colors to deter predators but that’s not always true.
Lots of creatures in the wild use bright colors to attract a mate. Think peacocks, birds of paradise, parrots, lots of other birds, some spiders, lizards and other reptiles, etc. Some plants use bright colors to attract bees and hummingbirds over to assist in pollination.
What really hurts my eyes the most is how the whole world is drawn. Furniture, buildings, literally almost everything looks like a background piece and not something you the characters interact with. Plus, even if they correctly did that, they only did it almost never. And the fact it took them years for the show to come out and still be radioactively high with problems.

When I'm not feeling confident in my writing...I just watch stuff like this, and it makes me feel like suddenly my million dollar idea is a hundred million dollar one. Though the main heroine has blunt bangs with pink hair, so I hope her character isn't instantly thrown under the bus of this lmfao. I do feel like I've finally approached the point of being able to write the main couple effectively enough! But they might be a bit too perfect and that leads to a whole new slew of problems. Hope everyone had a good new years though!
