I still find it incredible how petty the writers must be if they consider what thyme did as "bullying" like all she did was agree with someone else and was getting annoyed that sage was causing them all to stay in through their lunch, she didn't actually say anything bad! for those who haven't watced, all she said was that she agreed with amaryllis that old magic was ineffective compared to new magic.
RIGHT! It's a classic buddy cop dynamic. Plus amaryllis having a bit of a crush on thyme and thyme dreading her but eventually warming up. So much potential for a fun dynamic, but then they chose to focus on rosemary and sage, characters we don't give a shit about.

It's amazing how she ended up being considered the best or one of the best character of this show by so many. Well, the competition is not that high. I think one major reason for it is that she was resistant to the bad writing and in some cases may even have benefited from it. She started out as the bully character, but most of the bullying was rather minor and her targets were unlikable anyway. The one time Sage did get hurt, most of the audience sided with Amaryllis. So, the writers probably filed to make her unappealing. Next is that her chaotic nature made her behavior make more sense than everyone else's. For example, the potion teacher poisoned the students on their first day. Why would any student return to her classes? I can only think of reasons that involve cult like behaviors where the students are indoctrinated into thinking this sort of insanity is something that you should accept if you want to be a guardian. There is one exception though, Amaryllis. She is just the kind of person who would voluntarily return to a class whose teacher has already poisoned her. Ditto for entering the cave. One student asked why they are doing this. The explanation that they want to be guardians rang rather hollow since we don't know what a guardian is, but for Amaryllis it made sense, she doesn't need much of a reason to enter a dangerous cave. I haven't mentioned her likable qualities, but keep in mind that both Rosemary and Sage were supposed to be likable. Rosemary's dumb and silly behavior is supposed to be funny and endearing, but it is not. Amaryllis funny behavior could also have failed to be funny. Amaryllis also genuinely cared about Snapdragon. Now, Sage has a crush on Snapdragon, but every chance she had to show actual care for him she fails to do so. Sage also doesn't do a good job at showing case for Rosemary. The fact that Amaryllis could slip past the bad writing is amazing.
You forget that she actually was voiced by one of the writers. (Either that, or she was ad-libbing that much that the writers gave her the credit anyway 😋)

Amaryllis should’ve been the protagonist along with Snapdragon, Slime Boy, and Thyme. It’s a lot more enjoyable watching someone learn how to become a better person slowly over time

Honestly I feel like HGS had potential. It could’ve been a great show but it just ended up being boring to a lot of people. I do really like Amaryllis and Snapdragon’s relationship, however. If they ever do make another season of HGS (which I doubt) I hope the writing gets better and that the characters get more fleshed out. I know its dumb to be optimistic about a show almost nobody likes but I can dream about what the show could’ve been.

Amaryllis is such a great character because she have flaws and she can say whatever the hell she wants, and not be ashamed of it. Not to mention in the final episode, amaryllis is a good leader; she was able to lead the students to escape the burning cellar without hesitation. Also a fantastic and supportive friend to snapdragon.

Amaryllis, along with Snapdragon, were the highlights of this show. Not that it’s HARD to be the best in this show, but still. Amaryllis is such a delight to watch, and unlike the main four characters she goes through some good character development . I like the friendship she has with Snapdragon, I was MUCH more invested in their relationship than whatever dumb drama was happening between Sage and Rosemary. And speaking of which, I liked how mean she could be towards Sage. Out of all the characters Sage was the most insufferable, so I enjoyed when Amaryllis would throw some barbs her way. You know what would have been better? If Snapdragon, Amaryllis, and two other characters were the main group and focus. Then they could be doing stuff while Sage, Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme are being generic and boring in the background. Maybe the other two characters could be Parsley and Thyme. The two were the better half of the main group, and with better writing they could be good characters. All in all, Amaryllis was a great character who deserved a better show.

the scene where she defends snapdragon being attacked for his dress is so cute. I really want to see something like this for a long time, such a couple from a girl and a femboy (yes, I consider him a femboy, the ideas of the creators very poorly explained his reason for being transgender that ... well, I love femboys.). It's really great and they I'm watching it. rosemary and sage annoy me, rosemary is empty, and sage is an aggressive hysteric.

This character is one of the few things that prove that this show could have been good. Not great or anything, but surely like 5 or 6 out of 10 decent. That's why think the trash it ended up becoming is such a shame. At least it's fun to point and laugh.

Rewrite most of the other characters the way you want but keep Snapdragon and Amaryllis Amaryllis is probably the best character in the show surprisingly and Snapdragon has flaws but they (I think that’s their pronouns) are definitely the much better character compared to a character like Sage. (Also keep some of Parsley the same shes great)
This compilation is the first time I've actually felt any sort of affection for a fictional character from this show. Usually it's quite fast, even if only affectionate over one scene. Nah. The iconic sass in some tidbits here and there caught my heart wayyy more than, like, ANY clips I've seen posted 'round here.
bro I've consistently found rhubarb pigtails and sage incredibly annoying, its ironic that I have a natural like towards nicer characters and contempt towards ruder ones and I still prefer amaryllis and snapdragon
It helps that Amaryllis actually has a positive character growth arc and becomes a nicer person. Her meanness is presented as a negative trait and she's not put on a pedestal by the writers. Rosemary and Sage do not and constantly avoid consequences for being shitty people.

I'm shocked that Amaryllis is one of the antagonists here. She's the only character who genuinely feels human. Man, she even kinda props up the other characters just by her presence. Her personality is so extreme that they’re forced to interact on her level, invariably making them more interesting. (Though, there’s not much saving Sage…)
the scene where she defends snapdragon being attacked for his dress is so cute. I really want to see something like this for a long time, such a couple from a girl and a femboy (yes, I consider him a femboy, the ideas of the creators very poorly explained his reason for being transgender that ... well, I love femboys.). It's really great and they I'm watching it. rosemary and sage annoy me, rosemary is empty, and sage is an aggressive hysteric.

This is the second time I have ever seen the meanest, rudest character be the only likeable character in a show.

I haven't even seen this show and only clips, but I feel like Amaryllis and Snapdragon (I think that's their name) should have been the main characters. It would have been interesting to see a bully MC end up going through a growth arc
This character is one of the few things that prove that this show could have been good. Not great or anything, but surely like 5 or 6 out of 10 decent. That's why think the trash it ended up becoming is such a shame. At least it's fun to point and laugh.
I'm planning on taking inspiration from this, rewrite the characters(except for Amaryllis because she is the best one) and see if i can do something better. ¿What do you think, people?

Rewrite most of the other characters the way you want but keep Snapdragon and Amaryllis
Amaryllis is probably the best character in the show surprisingly and Snapdragon has flaws but they (I think that’s their pronouns) are definitely the much better character compared to a character like Sage. (Also keep some of Parsley the same shes great)

This compilation is the first time I've actually felt any sort of affection for a fictional character from this show.
Usually it's quite fast, even if only affectionate over one scene. Nah. The iconic sass in some tidbits here and there caught my heart wayyy more than, like, ANY clips I've seen posted 'round here.

bro I've consistently found rhubarb pigtails and sage incredibly annoying, its ironic that I have a natural like towards nicer characters and contempt towards ruder ones and I still prefer amaryllis and snapdragon
It helps that Amaryllis actually has a positive character growth arc and becomes a nicer person. Her meanness is presented as a negative trait and she's not put on a pedestal by the writers.
Rosemary and Sage do not and constantly avoid consequences for being shitty people.
Pretty sure the whole post halloween blow out episode is a major consequence.

It’s kinda disappointing how this show came out cause the animation is pretty nice and the character designs aren’t too bad but the writing and voice acting doesn’t really save it

I'm shocked that Amaryllis is one of the antagonists here. She's the only character who genuinely feels human. Her attitude is quite enjoyable, her lines actually feel thought out, she makes relatable mistakes, and she manages to draw out the best in other characters. Isn't the whole point of an antagonist that you're supposed to root against them? Cuz that's not what homegirl here's got me doing.
