I have 95,000 kms on my 2020 Rocket GT so I will chime in. The heat from the engine is no more than any other large engine motorcycle, in fact the Harley Ultra I used to own gave off more heat. And I live in one of the hottest places on the planet. I did put the mid range pegs on the GT and much prefer the mid range setup. The quick shifter is so much fun and highly recommended. In the twisties, especially the steep uphill ones where the massive torque can do its thing nothing much will keep up with the Rocket. I have never been passed by another cruiser and very few sport bikes have passed me. I have passed more of them than have passed me. Of course a good rider on a powerful sports bike will pass me for sure in the tight stuff. In my opinion this it the most versatile street machine there is. I can comfortably tour with the cruisers and get in some serious play with the sport bike folks. Finally after all those kms I still get the stupid grin when I peg the throttle. Thanks for your review.
I'm glad to see someone chime in regarding the mid control/peg swap. I just purchased a gently used GT and currently have the mid kit on order. I'm curious if, for you, the deciding factor was more for comfort or for control? Personally I feel I have better handling confidence when my feet are right below me or even a bit behind. I can handle it fine as is, but I'm really excited to see how the change will enhance the experience 😊
@@emilysimmons7318 For me it was 100% comfort for sure. It took effort to keep my feet on the forward pegs at high speed. With the mid pegs gravity helps keep my feet planted. The handling feels the same to me and I love my twisties. But I will say I never scraped the pegs in the forward position but I have with the mid pegs
If you don't mind, since this is a BIG bike, how tall/big are you? I wonder if it is too much weight for us "small guys" to handle, specially when parking or slow traffic.
I absolutely love my 2021 ( bought new) R3 GT. I've owned 28 bikes during my short riding career of 63 years. This is the all around most satisfying ride I've owned. The trans with the quick shifter is the smoothest and best of all my machines. The torque is beautiful, the handling is far better than you would believe and the fit and finish are sooo well done! I cannot find a single thing to complain about other than the fact that Triumph seriously detuned this 2500 cc engine from which they could have easily extracted 225-250 HP.. When riding, you feel planted and solid with a confidence inspiring stability. Did I say, I love this bike?!! I also think it is a visual work of art.
Can a R3-GT be tuned with upgraded electronics, filter, pipes etc.? Holy shit, 28 bikes hey. You weren't a dealer by any chance? lol Just from the pictures one can see the fine quality of workmanship. Thanks!
It's the most perfect big motorcycle I've ever owned after 30 big bikes. Riding 54 years. I just love this machine! Beautiful, fast, stable, comfortable and real quality construction! Never had a better motorcycle!!
When I was a child in Canada Britsh motorcycles ruled the country & once in a while you would see a Harley Davidson. A few years later the Japanese took over & sold more bikes than everything else. This lasted for decades until the insurance price for the liter & up + a few of the smaller displacement sport bikes priced them out of reach for a lot of people. Because of that a lot of people started to purchase Harley Davidsons until they started to become the most popular ride for most folks. The 1st Rocket GT-3's were a little lacking on style looking like Harley wanna be's. Now that Triumph changed the style of the Rocket it has become a very awesome bike like the GT & I WANT ONE REAL BAD in black hint, hint, hint! 😂 😂 Thank you Triumph cause I never thought I'd see that day come again. It's good to know that the Brand is still kicking. Have a wonderful day! Can't you just feel the love?
I have a 2023 Rocket 3 GT, and I absolutely love this bike. The power is amazing, but she doesn't feel like she's gonna kill you. The exhaust gets a little warm after a while, but nothing like my 2008 Mean Streak 1600 or the 2021 Lowrider S I recently had the chance to ride. I wear a size 13 boot and have no problem with the pegs. The bike handles better than it should. My Mean Streak handles well for a heavy cruiser, but this beast blows it away in the twisties. The stopping power impressed me as well. My wife rides on the pillion and says the backrest is nice when extended. Her legs do get a bit cramped though. Gas mileage sucks but this bike is about the smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon. All in all... Favorite bike I've ever owned or ridden.
I never feel the heat that everyone talks about but I always wear full length Alpinestar riding boots so maybe that's it. I have a '22 GT 221 Edition and absolutely love mine. Just did a 503 mile trip up to the Virginia mountains from Durham, NC on Saturday.
@@EdElliott57 I also wonder if it's mostly people that ride in the city more. The only time I've noticed the hear was once or twice when putsing around slow.
I purchased mine 2/9/24 for $15,000 with 300 miles on the odo. It is a 2020 GT and loaded with any options. Rode it 60 miles to my house. The torque is a monster. The dealer in Texas said there is an exhaust kit that takes the horsepower and torque up by 30%. I can't imagine.
I recently did a triumph demo day and my mate rode the Rocket 3 and I had the Tiger 1200 rally pro, he loved it and said the best bit was the seat back of the riders seat as it stopped him being thrown of with the acceleration. Amazing bike.
I own a 2021 R3GT in Orlando, Florida, and I love that bike more than bacon. I will say that the motor puts off more heat than a nuclear reactor - especially in the hot and humid Florida summers - but the shear thrill of its performance makes it but a trivial inconvenience. And I can pass everything on that bike... except a gas station. I wish her legs were a bit longer (about 140 miles is max that I comfortable going on a tank), but that is my only complaint. Nice review! Thank you for posting.
The Rocket is my daily rider because I leave in rural America with light traffic and mainly dual carriageway to work and back (20 miles each way). The brakes are fantastic. Had 2 deer jump out in front of me and stopped in time at 45mph. Never locked up the back brakes. I turned the rear suspension down half way and left it there. Added the bags, heated Corbin seat, werks exhaust, bigger fly screen and moved the pegs to mid mounted. I ride my other bikes and so didn't get the quick shift. It's bad enough when having to change to shifting on the right without forgetting the clutch. The only problem is that it makes other bikes seem tame but the Rocket is very easy to ride under 3000rpm.
Ian, I have 2 questions: First, how is the handling around curves? Have you scraped your pegs yet? Secondly, and most importantly, how is the reliability of the Rocket(did you have any mechanical or electrical issues yet) ? Thirdly, if you ever rode in the rain, did you get any backsplash of mud/dirt/water on your back because of the rear tire guard ?
@Market Trading Genius l forgot to mention the rear Tyre is good for 6K. The rear mud guard isn't very effective but not getting much or any on my back. It may be the GT model is better. No problems at all with the bike I would recommend new batteries in the key fob as soon as you purchase it.
I haven't scraped my pegs on the Rocket. I have scraped them on other bikes. I think that may be more the way I ride it. The torque allows me to enter the curve at a low speed and come out fast. It corners well enough but not as good as a sports bike or the new Trident because its so long and heavy. So you could say I don't push the limits on it.
@@gsd32i it's nice to have. My lady just traded her Trident in for a Bonneville Bobber. Then I ride a 1971 BSA Thunderbolt and a Mark III Notes Commando. So I have spoiled myself in my older age.

Anyway, love what Jim Anders had to say, and I echo it. Hard to get over that grin. And, like with most bikes (well, most things, actually), performance comes down to the (wo)man not the machine. Ride safe mate. Hello from Montreal Quebec Canada.
I have the GT with forward controls which works really well for me as I’m over 6’5”. I also have the quick shifter which is superb and a must! Also great to hear you spreading the love for Jersey
I have a GT in New Zealand and a quick shifter is a “must have” as it makes a smooth ride silky smooth. I have a GS1250 as my sensible bile, but the GS feels gutless in comparison. The GT is easy to ride and a lot of fun, but definitely not for longer rides- the GS is much better all round for long rides.
I have the 3R and to me the quick shifter is certainly not a ‘must have’. I just love the interaction with the bike as it is. If I was looking for a silky smooth ride I would probably look elsewhere.
@@ivor1957 Banging through the quickshifter in the twisties is the biggest joy on this bike. But when you don't want to use it, don't use it, simple. Must have.
I have a 2020 GT and I've done over 7,000 miles on the original tyres from new and they are only half warn. Last year I did a 2,500 mile trip taking in the Pecos in Spain. The year before I did Stelvio & lots of other twisty roads, better handling than you would expect but not sports bike handling I,m never far behind. Need new boots as always grinding them out on the corners. Screen isn't any good for motorway riding so stick to the mountain roads LOL. I used to use the Harley in the profile photo for these trips, so you can tell I'm a glutton for punishment. Very comfy for long distance riding.
I have a gt version with luggage and speed shifter love it I also have 2004 rocket 111 with single seat set up also in the back of the garage is a 2008 gen 2 busa the best of all worlds I have had the busa and rocket 111 11yrs and intend to let them go and maybe get a Thruxton or a Norton 960sp
I love my rocket ( my first bike ) its missing a bit power going from. 4th gear to 5 and 6. But high rpm in the 4th gear is hold on for dear life mode. Love it.
My biggest problem would be staying legal long enough. Looks like a big lovely long milkshake- smoooth! Nice puppies. GT or R ? I prefer the mids also.
Thank you a Great review, and lovely scenes round Jersey but sticking to those speed limits on a Rocket 3 impossible!😎 This bike is a real design statement and looks the absolute “dogs” I’ve just got to get one, GT in the Chrome and red with mid pegs and quick-shifter.
I took the R out as part of the Triumph Tour. Spent the first 5 minutes with the Triumph guys trying to get the keyless start to work (I'm not a fan of keyless, especially when you need the key to unlock the fuel cap) It's an occasional to ride this huge thing, but it's not scary. My MT10 handles so much better, and to be honest, it's way more fun to ride. I'm glad Triumph have made it but its not for me.
I would love to have one, but with the sticker price I will stick with my KZ1000. I have a thought that confuses me. The mileage of the Rocket III is pretty bad according to the road tests I have watched. Some teeters getting 25 mpg. My Car is a 2.5. Makes 170 hp (Almost twice the hp of the motorcycle) 165 ft pounds of torque, weighs 2500 pounds and gets 36 mpg average. Not window sticker average, actual mileage. Why is that? With the displacement, the fact it is fuel injected and has 1/5 the weight of my car, it should smoke a Hayabusa and get 60 mpg.
Great review. What a bike! I’ve just passed my CBT and bought my first bike the day I passed. Can you tell me what the harness is you’re wearing around your chest? Thanks
I have the r black Version of this bike and the quickshifter is a must...but beware that if you have one fitted make sure you enable it in the settings!!! I didnt and thought it didnt work lol Mid pegs are great in my opinion...great bike...great review too...nice one!!
I have a GT with R bars and pegs, I run my bikes all year round apart from ice n snow. I take this bike to work (I’m a builder) go shopping on it. I have a Suzuki GSX S1000 which I’ve hardly been on since buying this. I will probably sell the Suzuki. I love this bike, the more you ride it the more you want to ride it. The handling is amazing for the size of it.
@@superdacoolman I wanted an R but was going to have to wait a while. The dealer had an offer on £500 of accessories so I used that to change the bars and foot pegs. I’ve kept the gt seat which is 24mm lower, I may change the seat but want to have a sit on an R to see what the difference is. I like the GT wheels better and it comes with heated grips which the R doesn’t.
My missus has zero say in what bike I buy, I currently ride a 1290 sdr, her only stipulation is if I ever kill one of our kids, never come home. Our kids have their own vehicles now, yeehar. When I tire of my KTM the Rocket lll is my next toy. At one point, in your lunatic video I saw the speedo hit 42mph, are you sure, I rode bicycles down mountains as a 12 year old faster than that in Wales, beautiful bike though
I’m an older bloke late to riding (3 years now) but have fitted in about 40000 Km in that time. Looking at the GT but not sure if it’s too much bike for someone with my experience level despite me being pretty a conservative rider. Currently on a Multistrada and was looking for a different type of ride.
Two days after I posted this I flew to Melbourne (Australia) and bought rocket 3 gt triple black with 1600km on the clock. In as new condition. Looks like I’m going to see first hand if it’s too much

I am new to bikes and want to buy a cruiser, royal enfield SM 650 or kawasaki vulcan S 650. However I would like to do a test drive first to decide. How does it work, do you have to pay for that or what's the deal? :)
Hi, simply pop down to/phone your local dealer and ask them if they have any bikes for you to try. Obviously you have to have the correct driving licence to be able to test tide them.👍
You mentioned that your wife did not like the looks of the Rocket. Does she like the looks of your BMW GS? My wife really likes the look of the Rocket, but hates the look of the BMW 2020 GSA I bought.
Very Good Bike detail Review, obviously the Rocket 3 will sell itself. NOTE: Please never-ever mention that a Bike has a "Big-Price", let alone to keep harping on and on and on about it's cost, Clearly that just kills the opportunity for those interested in wanting one of these fine bikes from showing your excellent detailed review to their Partner/Spouse/Misses ETC. Obviously the price is the price, so just simply mention its cost "Once" and move on. I couldn't show this to my wife because of such continuous big-cost comments as that would kill it with her as many others. I apologize if that upsets you, but that's a real fact of concern.
Hi Bob , appreciate comment, bit amiss if I didn’t make mention of the price , but I’ve noted the harping on bit . Easy to do when you’re caught up in all this video stuff . I do hope that you find a suitable video to show your partner 🙈GT is a great bike . Ride safe and keep it the right way up 👍👍
Georgetown garage Victoria Road at the petrol station I know they have just released the new breakout 117 So it's on demo at the mo .... I have a GS and a Harley Davidson low rider s with forward controls ... its very hard with bike i want to ride, normally down to a toss of a coin both are that good 👍
I just rented the Lowrider S. It has nothing on the Rocket when it comes to take off. It also literally burned my thigh when I was stuck in traffic. It vibrated way more and couldn't corner as well, even at slow speeds. I did enjoy the low seat height and it was fun to just cruise on, but all in all it made me appreciate my Rocket all the more.
I own a 2015 Triumph 2300 Rocket. Its my only ride and a daily rider. I have 42,000 miles on her. I am 6'2, 215 pounds. I live in the United States ( southern California). I rode this Triumph all over the U.S including Canada and Mexico. Love it. But if you are "soft" mentally or physically, it may be too much for you. You need to be ALL MALE.
The pillion is terrible. We took it to Spain and fully loaded with luggage and triumph pillion seat and back rest my partner found it intolerable. The handling was appalling. The cruise control was also a huge issue and lurched my passenger into the back of my helmet every time it was disengaged. My old rocket 111 was way better. As a GT ( grand tourer) it was not fit for purpose!! I sold it immediately we got back and bought a Ducati Multistrada V4S which is superior in every respect. Simon
TWO AND A HALF LITRES?! Why? Really, why? I’ll leave that displacement for my car, thank you very much. You can get more than ample horsepower and torque with a fraction of the displacement and weight. Not my cuppa mate. But to each his own. Whatever turns your crank.

I have the GT with forward controls which works really well for me as I’m over 6’5”. I also have the quick shifter which is superb and a must! Also great to hear you spreading the love for Jersey
Thanks. Will do a biking video on the Island in the new year, when we have better weather. Currently 65 mph winds and wet! Happy New Year. 😁
Had mine for 3 year amazing
My brother has just bought one 😃 I think I’m more excited than he is, but probably not haha.
Heat ok the rt leg
Love it.
How is it possible to have a two and a half litre bike that is so user friendly? I am impressed. An amazing machine, really.
I've just fallen in love with this beast! Definitely the GT3 will be my next acquisition soon I reckon.
hi can see foward scenes in stead of looking back most of the time.
Regards barry
My biggest problem would be staying legal long enough. Looks like a big lovely long milkshake- smoooth!
Nice puppies. GT or R ? I prefer the mids also.
That’s a gorgeous bike, reckon I’d go for the GoldWing as it’s DCT
Watched this. Went and bought one.....
All bikes get warm. So don't complain. It's a big bike. So have fun and stop complaining. It moves like the clappers.
Yup it does indeed move VERY QUICK. Just pointing out what I noticed whilst riding it thats all. Ride safe and Merry Christmas 👍
Thank you a Great review, and lovely scenes round Jersey but sticking to those speed limits on a Rocket 3 impossible!😎
This bike is a real design statement and looks the absolute “dogs” I’ve just got to get one, GT in the Chrome and red with mid pegs and quick-shifter.
Indeed it was impossible ......lots of video that I couldn't use😁. We all need bigger garages !
Thanks. Great video. Very detailed. I hope your wife lets you pick one up. Beautiful dogs by way.
👍
Cool review thank you 😊
I took the R out as part of the Triumph Tour. Spent the first 5 minutes with the Triumph guys trying to get the keyless start to work (I'm not a fan of keyless, especially when you need the key to unlock the fuel cap)
It's an occasional to ride this huge thing, but it's not scary.
With traction control on I get about 18,000 kms on the rear.
Good effort 👍
Great review. What a bike!
I’ve just passed my CBT and bought my first bike the day I passed.
Can you tell me what the harness is you’re wearing around your chest? Thanks
Hi. Thanks. Its a Kreiga R20 backpack.
Best bike I've ever had. Won't go back to anything else
I have the r black Version of this bike and the quickshifter is a must...but beware that if you have one fitted make sure you enable it in the settings!!! I didnt and thought it didnt work lol
Mid pegs are great in my opinion...great bike...great review too...nice one!!
Many thanks 👍
I have a GT with R bars and pegs, I run my bikes all year round apart from ice n snow. I take this bike to work (I’m a builder) go shopping on it. I have a Suzuki GSX S1000 which I’ve hardly been on since buying this. I will probably sell the Suzuki. I love this bike, the more you ride it the more you want to ride it. The handling is amazing for the size of it.
You converted to the R bars and pegs after purchasing or ordered it that way? What do you build? Go shopping on it?
@@superdacoolman I wanted an R but was going to have to wait a while. The dealer had an offer on £500 of accessories so I used that to change the bars and foot pegs. I’ve kept the gt seat which is 24mm lower, I may change the seat but want to have a sit on an R to see what the difference is. I like the GT wheels better and it comes with heated grips which the R doesn’t.
@@superdacoolman shopping-Tesco 😂. I’m a mason/builder. Concrete blocks, plaster and dry dash etc.
Beautifil bike!
It sure is!
Apparently it does go much faster …. But didn’t want someone to do a time / distance check and come paying me a visit . 😂
Looks like I’m going to see first hand if it’s too much
Onya mate!@@crj8387
Great video 😊! Gotta admit that that thing is intimidating… Gotta give ‘the hand of God’ a go though 😁
It was a big hand 😂
Forward controls? A complete nightmare if you coming from Mid controls, for about 10 minutes, four or five stops
Then, very nice
I bought one and can't find a better bike for me. Had a go on Goldwing, Mondelo v100, r18, ...... It's not as nice. I have all the extras. I got 10,000k on a set of tyers. Bad things . Horn ,my triumph app. As for switching cube, you never need to use it on the move. Also have mid pegs and shifter.
Cheers front Roger in Nz.
4500 miles out of tyre cube switch you get use to it
I love mine it is my number one bike
Going to buy one
I am new to bikes and want to buy a cruiser, royal enfield SM 650 or kawasaki vulcan S 650. However I would like to do a test drive first to decide.
How does it work, do you have to pay for that or what's the deal? :)
Hi, simply pop down to/phone your local dealer and ask them if they have any bikes for you to try. Obviously you have to have the correct driving licence to be able to test tide them.👍
@@gsd32i thanks
What’s that waistcoaty thing you’re wearing?
A rucksack , it’s the straps .🤪👍
It doesnt come with a quick shifter?
No, I believe it's a £380 option. I would go for it if I was ordering one.👍
I am firmly convinced it is a big bike, lol.
bought my first bike last month...u guess it its the rocket 3r😂
Wow. Enjoy. Hope you have a large wallet for those speeding tickets, as its just soooooo quick, without you realising it.🤪
Are you in Jersey?
Yes 😁
@@gsd32i Scenery was Ace.
I can't understand the missing/split rear wheel arch BLUNDER !?!?
What’s your inside leg, that’s all that matters v seat height.
You mentioned that your wife did not like the looks of the Rocket. Does she like the looks of your BMW GS? My wife really likes the look of the Rocket, but hates the look of the BMW 2020 GSA I bought.
Sometimes I think my wife doesn’t like the look of me !
Ride safe and keep it the right way up 👍👍
people love to talk about price its the first thing they want to know lol and this is one of the most expensive bikes you can buy
apparently not many are selling actually
Really think you need to have a ride on a Harley-Davidson low rider s or the new breakout .... lol
I'll have to see what my local Harley dealer has re demos....👍
Georgetown garage Victoria Road at the petrol station I know they have just released the new breakout 117
So it's on demo at the mo .... I have a GS and a Harley Davidson low rider s with forward controls ... its very hard with bike i want to ride, normally down to a toss of a coin both are that good 👍
@@chrislecouteur2360 waiting to try their Ducati Diavel v4 when it’s dry !
Simon
You tried , you didn’t like , fair enough . V4 would be better for 2 up . Enjoy 👍
TWO AND A HALF LITRES?! Why? Really, why? I’ll leave that displacement for my car, thank you very much. You can get more than ample horsepower and torque with a fraction of the displacement and weight. Not my cuppa mate. But to each his own. Whatever turns your crank.
Variety is the spice of life . Try one 👍
@@gsd32i I just tried 7 different bikes on vacation in Spain. I love variety and not shy about trying something new. So yeah, I would try one. Just can’t imagine buying one or even really liking one other than in a straight line. Ditto for oversized jacked up pickup trucks with oversized off-road tires that sport a shine and drive around cities here in North America, this bike falls into the WTF category for me.
@@davidkendall1614 As long as whatever you ride makes you smile that’s all that matters . Enjoy 👍
