Triumph Rocket 3 GT - Just like the R but more relaxed

- As you know, Mrs TAYM loves the Triumph Rocket so when the opportunity to have the Triumph Rocket 3GT for a few days came up I had to pounce on it. The last Rocket was the R with mid foot pegs. I wasn’t sure how I would get on with the feet forward thing but hoped it would be just as much fun as the R.

So very nearly got myself a rocket 3, but i am only 5'-8", and 68 years of age so in march this year went for triumph speedmaster 1200cc new bike, and with the really low seat height suits me down to the ground, really, really love of the speedmaster beautiful bike, but the rocker 3 looks the part just a little bit to big for me, i love all bikes love them all ha.
I don’t why or how triumph have achieved what they have with this bike but very glad they have 😁 I do like the speed master too but this is just ridiculous 😁😂😂 thanks AW 😁
That’s a beautiful bike and I never really liked it at the beginning but my taste has changed , the sort of bike you could just sit and look at . Thanks TAYM

What an absolute treat to get home from work at midnight and find Mr TAYM has posted a video!! One thing I'd advise tho, Mrs TAYM really really liked the Rocket 3 that you both rode on. I'd check her pockets before taking her out on this one for your wallet🙂🙃. You know the power of our wives over us when it comes to essential shopping.

Always remember the salesman at Birmingham Triumph almost insisting I ride one around the carpark as I had no time to test it properly..... It was a revelation, I was riding round and round in and out of the parked cars like it was a 125 ! 😊
Mind you I hear they are not the easiest things for dealers to sell !!

Ohhhh how excited was Mrs TAYM when you took this beast home ? A fantastic bike I really like the GT but it's a bit to much money for me otherwise I'd probably get one as Mrs Mike is just like Mrs TAYM over the Rocket.
I can’t help feeling buying one would be like when you have your first child 🤔 I remember bringing her home from hospital for the first time, sitting the carry cot down and thinking 🤔 WTF do we do know 😂😂😂😂😂 thanks Mike 😁

I have a 2022 R3GT from New . It's quite a handful. It's fast, nimble and amazing. Gets looks and comments everywhere I go. 6,000 miles on it. ❤ Texas. Cheers.

You're a lucky boy to get ride so many bikes. I've sat on both the GT and the R, as a shorter rider (5'8") the swept back bars on the GT felt more comfortable but I preferred the footpeg position on the R. Its great that such an engine exists but I'll be sticking with my T100.

You would be surprised how manageable that power is though 😁
I have the GT but got the mid range pegs, much nicer for me. Make sure you get the quick shifter. Oh and get a windscreen if you put in lots of miles.

I have a 2020 Rocket 3 GT a quickshifter on this bike is a must and i add one and its make all the difference in the world when the light turn green im already gone its so fast now its amazing been riding for 40 years i owned all sorts of motorcycle from supersport to cruiser and the Rocket beat them all its a keeper.

Wow! Always wanted a go on one of these ever since the "MK1". I have sat on one a time or two but nothing more. "Why? Because they could" sums up the Rocket 3 perfectly.

What a lucky TAYM you are ! It's almost like you have a birthday treat every week .
You mentioned the bike was intimidating ,which is ironic because a Triumph salesman once told me that the purpose of this bike is to intimidate other riders [ I think he meant Harley riders ] . The previous generation Rocket three was top heavy , so I'm glad to hear this bike is more nimble .I saw a chrome tank version and it reminded me a bit of a Brough Superior .
It's a big bike but still considerably lighter than a Harley .
What a pity that Triumph don't have a model fully kitted out for long distance touring with a large screen and dedicated luggage .
That would indeed be Marvelous [ and beyond ].
When we checked on our first ride of the rocket, just the price of the rack to fit inadequate panniers was enough for me to require oxygen 😂😂😂😂 thanks DS 😁
I have almost 115,000 kms on my 2020 GT and it does great touring. I have the panniers and did add a windscreen. I feel its the best all around street bike around. I can play with the sports bikes and tour with the touring bikes. Even did about 1700 kms in one day.

🙄 There I was, you’d convinced me! Low seat height. All the power! The fancy pillion ‘rests! The Classic Triumph colours! I was all ready to take out a new mortgage! THEN I noticed - NO centre stand! Yet again TAYM build’s me up - then let’s me down! 🙄🤣

One of the most beautiful bike I have seen at a dealer. Display should be largerToo much info in a pretty small roundel. If you are 6' tall and over, more likely it will not be that comfortable for longer rides. As a commuter bike, it was not IT for me. You can get front fairing with speakers, after market, but not cheap. I spent a bit more money and got the Goldwing DCT Tour. Zero regrets.

It’s an amazing motorbike, no doubt. But if it were my money it would go on the beautiful 70s Trident you showed us a couple of days ago; charm on two wheels that bike.

Well for the size of it TAYM it is quite a neat looking bike I would freely admit just to big and bulky for me and the price tag to match I do wonder how much the road tax would be since it is 2.5 ltr engine . I think it's more a fruit cake because they are heavy and really rich . I can see how one would feel intimidated by this one and when I have seen them about they do look that way .The rear seat looks somewhat small but they all seem to be small these days .When you going to buy one TAYM ?😉👌👍

It had to be done Mr TAYM, I know you were apprehensive about the forward pegs and they do catch you out for a little while. They put you in such a comfortable riding position especially combined with the higher swept back handlebars. I haven't ridden the R but I'm convinced the GT is easier to change direction with and more comfortable on a longer ride. I'm desperate to know what Mrs TAYM's reaction and thoughts were, she'd have a bit more padding from the seat and the security of the little back rest. She is of coarse correct, the R doesn't have the little screen.
I'm not sure there's much difference wind deflection wise between the sloping plate in front of the clock and the screen. I've fitted a taller touring screen which lifts the air a bit higher. The tank is only 18 litres although it looks huge it has a large bulge in the middle to accommodate the air filter etc. Filling it is tricky, you have to angle the nozzle to the side and squeeze gently or the petrol splashes back out again. Fuel consumption could be around 40mpg if you're canny, more like 34mpg if you like to let the engine Breathe a bit 😂 I look forwards to part 2 and yours and Mrs TAYM's honest comparison with the R.

You wondered how many miles before motor work was needed. I dont know but my 2020 GT has right at 115,000 kms on it with no difference in the motor I can tell. I have had it in for valve adjustment twice and so far all the valves have been within spec.

Thats more money than I paid for my 1st house ! Seriously though why design a bike that puts out so much torque that it needs traction control to stop the rear wheel spinning on the road ? I would be very interested in how many of these they actually sell & how many miles you get out of a rear tyre ? Would I buy one ? No I wouldn't ! But its a good job we all have different tastes in bikes isn't it ?

yes , well as you know i don't like triumph as a company , and that thing is terribly ugly , ,, but the engineering involved to make it easy to push about your driveway , to enable it to handle high and low speeds with such a big motor is nothing short of giraffe - ness , the main trick to make it feel good at village speeds is way more important and useful than 200 mph capability ,, the fit and finish looks top shelf ;;

That screen looks like badge our kid. What’s it there for. Do you have to oil it? Amazing bike
The little stock screen is as you say of little purpose, more for aesthetics than practicality, it tends to direct wind up towards your shoulders. I've fitted a taller touring screen to mine which lifts the wind draft to the top of my helmet. It's a bike you really need to try to appreciate it's very well engineered attributes. Like TAYM says it's happy just coasting along but it also doesn't half get up and go if you ask it to.

When are we going to get the super meteor or the shotgun over here the moon is rising and my migraine has ebbed it's a question I've had for a while probably want to go with the gt. Idk it's the way it is wanted a more upright styling idk an interceptor or int. 😂as they have to be marketed as damn I have four bikes looking for a fifth got quite the addiction I also have a load of photos for you permit for a car never felt the need damn em I like Pennsylvania well enough other than the wild motorized mutants and the skittish abominable road fairing animals I have no need for punctuation it again keeps it quite interesting although after a bit you tend to take it personal the attempts on your life whether unintentionally or intentionally it gives you a healthy skin of stay the f- away from me IDK exactly where people get off I most definitely have mounted auxiliary lighting and it seems not to make a difference chock it up to indifference or allegedly not seeing the vehicle I've had more than my share of right of way violating left hand turns in front of me my bike and my wife.... No doubt it's dangerous be alert.
