I was passing through a town in Kansas that I had never been in before, when GOD told me to go knock on the door of a house across the street. I immediately went and knocked on the door. THEN, it hit me..."What am I doing here?" I started to leave, when the door began to open. I stood there, not having a CLUE what to say. A very elderly lady said, "Oh, thank you so much". I stood there, somewhat bewildered. She said, "My husband is bedridden, and I've been trying to turn him over, and I CAN'T, and I prayed, Dear God, Please send me someone to help me turn him over. I went in, turned him over, visited for a few minutes, prayed with them, and left. Believe whatever you want, that is absolutely TRUE! There have been numerous times that THAT kind of leading has happened, ALWAYS with similar Miraculous results! Do they happen ALL the time? NO! But they DO happen! If we have been Adopted, and GOD ...IS NOW... OUR FATHER, We DO have a RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM, and HE DOES speak to us. He DWELLS IN us!

God bless you for your obedience. I'm sure Mike agrees that God does lead that way sometimes. I've experienced it too. But his point seems to be walking in the Spirit after salvation in this particular passage versus specific instructions from God in a situation which is discussed in other passages. He's studying certain verses and expounding on that particular set of verses. He's digging into these verses and helping us understand what they mean. God begins changing our lives when we are saved. Its a lifelong process of sanctification. The Holy Spirit indwells us and works to teach, strengthen, lead, empower us to mature spiritually, to grow, to become more godly. Sanctification is being led by the Spirit and our lives should reflect that leading. Part of the growth and maturing is learning to hear Gods specific instructions and being obedient. Just like you did. God is so good.

Yeah, one or two episodes ago I was unsure about something Mike said about a supporting passage(Luke 3 I think) but when I looked at the full passage in context and read some commentary on it Mike was quoting it correctly.
The funny thing is that even if he'd been wrong I would learn something new and be better for it, Mike is always encouraging the audience to think critically and go back to the Word which I think is his greatest strength as a preacher. 😀

I love your teachings Mike. I just want to share a bit of my experience. My whole life I was rejected and came from a narcissistic family. I never knew the love of a father. I remember the night I became born again, the scales came off my eyes. I was loved by God just the way I am, that Jesus was my Lord and saviour. This concept was difficult for me to grasp for a long time before God showed me that I am loved. My husband then left me with 3 young children. My son has severe ADHD. I couldn't cope, I cried out to God, got counselling and wanted relief from my circumstances. Church failed me. No one understood. I felt so alone, so abandoned. I became severely depressed. I wanted to do what was right and not sin. I felt so unloved by God. When you are a new Christian and going through so many unbearable trials, it is hard to know that you are loved by God when all there is, is trial after horrible trial. I had no relief from my out of control son. One daughter ran away from home at 15, the other went to live with my mother then sister. My life was shattered, I was totally devastated and heartbroken. I thought God did not love me. I ended up falling away because I wanted to be loved and have a husband. I prayed for years for a husband. For 20 years I did my own thing. I still believed in God and I knew what was true. I eventually remarried and it is only of recent in the last year that something wonderful has happened to me. God has shown me himself in a new way. He has renewed me and I can say that I do love him, I want to serve him. Its only through Gods grace over the 20 years that he sustained me. My point of saying this is that for some people it is to hard to believe that you are loved no matter the circumstances that you are going through. My only example was my narcissistic family and the rejection and be good or your rejected. I knew I was forgiven by the blood of Jesus however I couldn't grasp the love of God fully. So being renewed isnt the same journey for everyone. Without a doubt I can now trust God no matter my circumstances. And I am still going through a lot in my life, however a change has happened in me where I will trust him no matter what. Mike so some people are so damaged by there earthly experience of a father or family, it just doesn't instantly happen that you trust God. My journey of believing started when I was a child, Im 61and its taken this long.

Beautiful testimony. I'm also 61. I grew up in a whole, loving, godly family but still struggle with depression, fear and feeling unloved. It has nothing to do with my family, I cannot point to them as the culprit. Even my extended family and friends were good to me, protective, loving. I can only think maybe it was because my health has never been good. I had major surgery at 11 yrs old. Even that is a testimony but I digress. I haven't had problems like some have problems so why? I believe we all have sinful weaknesses that God allows in order to teach us in the midst of a struggle with our tendencies. We are supposed to learn, to strive in order to strengthen, to see how He can get us through our weaknesses. We should learn to lean, to trust, to release. We should be learning, through our wrestling, how we can depend on God and not ourselves. So, I keep fighting, doing all I know to strengthen myself spiritually. When I still find myself depressed or afraid, I know it is Him and not me, that gets me through it. If we give in and stop struggling, and accept or justify our sin, we are in trouble. We are addicted to our sin no matter what it is. And you know what happens to an addict who stops struggling with his addiction. They will self destruct to the point of death. Keep wrestling, sister, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we are growing no matter what our past was or what our situation is. As long as we are learning to fall on Him, trusting, dependent, we are on the upward.

I think everyone has a story. Everyone has some struggles in life. I've found that most of my struggles to "accept" that I am loved by God, come from going to my "feelings" of whether I'm loved, and by not immersing myself in the truth of the scriptures.
What I mean is, whatever our feelings, God's Word is where we find the truth!!

I've had my heart broken too. It was the best thing that could have happened to me, although I still feel the pain. The way I look at it is, this is how God's heart breaks for us when we turn away from Him. What a blessing to feel a tiny bit of how He feels even if it's pain. The other thing I think about is that my heart had to be broken in order to become a heart of flesh, a heart that could feel again. I just kept praying that Father please heal it with the oil of the Holy Spirit. He would give me such peace. Since my heart has been broken, I find I have a larger capacity for joy in the Lord. I really needed to get my priorities straight and this forced me to cry out to Jesus, Father and Holy Spirit. I feel for you, because I don't think there is any greater pain, but now I see what a benefit it has been for me and my walk with God.

You have to read Romans 8 and then you can understand. Christ nailed the law to the cross so that it does not condemn us anymore. From here on the Holy Spirit works with us in our sanctification. We still have unrighteousness but since we died with Christ to the Law, we are free from it and it dos not condemn us, the Holy Spirit takes over the job of the law and cleanse us from all unrighteousness if we repent and acknowledge our fault.

12:00 That's not true, Mike! The "robot prayer" comes from a place of almost desperation, in many ways. As in, when you keep asking God for His will to be done in your life for 20, 30 years and still nothing seems to be going as it should. Of course, we believe God is perfect, so we must be the ones messing things up somehow! 🤷‍♀
That's when we say: "Okay, God, I guess I suck at deciphering what you expect me to do in order to get my life on track. Please do not allow me to turn left when you want me to turn right. I must be deaf, blind and stupid, 'cause I seem to be missing all the signs!"

..I had that when I was seeking an experience of God as an agnostic. I was suicidely depressed and turned to God wholeheartedly through prayer and repentance.
It was like God showed me who Christ is, that he is the only way to God. I had a tangible awareness of Gods presence that lasted for two months. It was an overwhelming sense of joy that lifted me out of my life's experience.
It was incredible, amazing but not how the baptism of the HS is defined in the bible ! It was more like the fruit of the Spirit.
I believe this was God because joy is one of the fruits of the HS and i lost my sense of his presence when I sinned in a certain way. Then got involved in a wacky church with some dodgy teaching that led me further into the ditch !!
Two books that influenced me at the time were Prayer and Contemplation by Mark Gibbard and The Calvery Rd by Roy Hession (came out of revival in Africa)

@@JuliexSteadman What you are describing I experienced when I was 16. This is God manifesting himself to us. The love and joy felt came from His presence and was overwhelming. However, we are seeking to be permanent in that state and this happens as we grow in the Spirit and bear fruit. I go back to this experience often. The prize for following the Lord is the Lord himself since that Joy and that Love is what I want to be permanent in me, and I am sure that is what you want, but it takes growth. We are fortunate that we received this experience, many do not.

@@JuliexSteadman, I am blessed having had that experience. It is true that the awareness I had of God in those days was 100%, and not so much right now, but it does not mean God is far from me or uninterested in me anymore. I think what we experienced is the prize we are after. As children of God we are in a process of growth and it takes time. We will reach the stature of Christ eventually, most likely not here in this life. Remember the parable of the talents, the workers received a limited amount of money and they were supposed to put it to work to increase it. Afterwards, they were given cities etc so I think is the same with us. In my case and in yours too, God has manifested Himself as a reality but this is not the end, we have to grow to become more and more like Him, like the experience we had, but this time the fruit will be permanent. So, keep that hope since we know it is real. I learned a lot from it and still learning, God is good and He loves us but we have to mature in many ways, but He will take us to where He wants us to be, we are part of His body, literally, so we will be perfect to His body some day.

But I have always read that to be, we are no longer obligated to live after the flesh out to fulfill the lust of the flesh because we have the spirit and we can cry out to the lord for strength in times of temptation and His spirit working within us helps us. Because we have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.

Scripture says we are now each one of us a priest and a prophet, since we hear God's voice and interact with His Spirit directly. The Israelites had appointed prophets who received God's messages/word for the people and shared it with them. JESUS was a prophet and a priest, a teacher and a shephard, He had all the gifts of God's Spirit. All of which are available to us through His Spirit as God chooses and sees fit for the benefit of His Kingdom. We no longer need prophets to proclaim God's divine will to us. His Spirit in you reveals His divine Will directly to you, in your relationship and through His Word.

Im sorry Mike but being lead by the spirit does include recieving "unctions" as you call it. You are an amazing biblical thinker but sadly this is not the first time where your knowledge fails to truly understand things more concerned with the spirit than the bible. I know a lot of people who "follow" the bible yet are not being led by the spirit. You can do things the bible prescribes pray , fast, yet still not be in God's will ( book of haggain is an illustration of this).Being lead by the spirit includes these unctions but is not limited to it. I testify by experience that people have done more miraculous feats than bring milk to a needy home. These experiences are actually constant because we have learned to rely on more than just what the bible encompasses. The bible doesnt tell you who to marry or what church to attend ( and many other things). People assume because they have the holy spirit all decisions they make will perfectly accord with God which is false ( that is why we are told to renew our minds Romans 12:2) that is why Paul says if we live by the spirit let us walk in the spirit. Being spirit lead includes living the precepts of the bible but extends beyond that. Unfortunately, what you and countless Christians do is confine God to ink when the logos (John 1) existed before any concept of the bible. Righteousness as you say is living by the spirit cannot be achieved by walking in the bible alone (as the spirit will lead us to all truths not just biblical ones). God is looking for worshippers in spirit ( being spirit empowered) and truth (being knowledgeable about the bible). We need both the bible and the spirit. Your stream of thinking represents people who just lean on truth but not the spirit. My prayers is that you be illuminated on this topic because if you are it will add a dimension of depth to your understanding of the bible. People like you will quickly dismiss a manifestation of God because it isnt "in the bible" or not "orderly" if we are abiding in God's words (as we truly should) then we wouldnt fail to recognize his leadings and manifestations. I'll leave you something to chew on A.W. Tozer said " If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference.” In fact, God told Ananias exactly where Paul lived (street and everything) and that was something he would not have known through just the old testament( which was scriptures they had at that time ). God bless. Okay so after watching further on disregard the above just didnt want you to fall in errot of any kind.

BEING LED BY THE SPIRIT OR BEING MISLEAD BY A SPIRIT:
remember that the priests of Farao could perform miracles just like Moses .
and the devil is a deceitful spirit:
    2 cor :11
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers,+ transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.+ 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light.+ 15 It is therefore nothing great if his ministers+ also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness. But their end shall be according to their works.+
    2 thessa 2:
But the lawless one’s presence* is according to the operation*+ of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and portents+ 10 and with every unrighteous deception*+ for those who are perishing,+ as a retribution because they did not accept the love+ of the truth that they might be saved.
    1 john 4
    1 John 4:1-21
Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression,*+ but test the inspired expressions* to see whether they originate with God,+ because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.+
so if Mike wants you to believe that the holy spirit is from God than dont believe him :
he comes up with a story (watch out for untrue stories because they can make you loose the true story)
about a man that is told to buy milk , than he teaches that God works that way ; and in lots of churches are many of those stories which slowly go over a borderline from the bible:

He told a story about someone giving someone milk, and said that he has no idea if that story is true at all. He then goes on to share how someone he DID know tried that and looked totally foolish. He then explains what being led by the Spirit really means. Your statement against Mike appears to be based on you not correctly comprehending what he said. It is my hope that that happened because you didn't hear the context of the story and then misrepresented him, rather than you purposefully misrepresenting him to try to discredit him.

Love IS the motive that drives us toward all these other, practical motivations. Love = RELATIONSHIP. All these other motivations(by definition) = RELIGION. By what is said here, I could call my marriage a religion. Religion is man working to get to God. Well, that aint Christianity :) Christianity is God descending to man! Please resist your desire to mix Old and New Testament which is religion vs relationship(Law vs Grace), and simply accept and teach/preach THE GOSPEL! There's a reason it is called the "GOOD NEWS"! It's too good to be true...but it's not!! Relationship vs Religion was a new thing about 2000 years ago when Christ said, "It is finished"! Hallelujah, you are right, we don't have a blank slate. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
      Philippians 2:5‭-‬11
That passage literally states that Christ gave up His equality with the Father in order to humble Himself for our sake, for which, the Father exalted Him above every name; which restated His equality with the Father.

So the phrase "led by the spirit" means "walk righteouslY"? Really? Those who walk righteously will not carry out the desires of the flesh? These are two different thoughts Mike, regardless of the context, and you have nullified the thought you would rather not have to deal with by the usual spin of "context." What a surprise. The Corinthians IN CONTEXT were not honoring one another. This was not an invitation to write off spiritual gifts as a cultural priority in the church because love is more important. "Self control" IS about righteous living in context, not about policing bodily movements or diminishing the importance of encounters with the Holy Spirit, a righteous entity. This is nothing but John Mac light, morphing context to Holy Spirit light.

..he is not writing off spiritual gifts... ..we are to earnestly desire them, Paul said but if you think the gifts monitor spiritual maturity you are wrong.. ..spiritual maturity is shown by how much we walk in love by the Holy Spirit in us...
...the Corinthians lacked no spiritual gift but they were not walking in love towards each other. Scripture says to the extent we dont walk in love, we walk in death... in John's gospel..
the gifts are gifts, not the fruit on the tree... ...fruit takes time to grow... ..... it would be like having a christmas tree covered in christmas decorations (gifts) but the tree is dead with no leaves on it.... ....that would not be a pretty sight..
