could you do a comprehensive list of what you need to pickup/gather for each craft/build recipe. i feel like ive passed something up in my playthrough on xbox.
The "Grid of the land" is cardinal directions: north, south, east, west. As long as you are facing one of those directions, the pickaxe will dig straight. No need to "find the grid." :) Good video. Thanks!
This video was very informative in many ways. The lay of the land, the placement of where to strike with the pike, the stone foundation placement. I give this video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
@@Chiselchip Yeah, I was able to make a 7 X 13 cellar with nice straight sides thanks to you for explaining how the pickaxe works. I hope your channel grows huge, your videos are great!
I've watched a ton of Valheim videos and your videos are so good. Particularly the explanations. I thought I knew most of the tricks but watching this showed me there is still more to learn
Because of the way that 45 degree land renders out you can also go at 45 degrees to the "grid of the land". When doing a repair on a miss with the pick, stand at the bottom of the basement and aim at the top of the side you want to repair with the raise land tool. Uses less stone and is MUCH more controllable.
Especially with the BetterLadders mod, ladders work just fine :D Without the mod, Ladders are obnoxious to use, but the mod makes em as smooth as stairs to go up and down
Thank you for the awesome explanations to go along with the visual demonstrations! I love that you also cover how to fix things if a mistake is made, very informative :)
My basements usually contain every crafting station and if possible, all possible crafting boosts. My standard building uses 9x9 double ground plates (the ones that are like 1x1 meter). On that area, I can fit in everything the game offers, except the eitr raffinery ;), but with melters, windmill and coal burner. Not even a basement needed.
I like to make a sub-basement to fit some of the larger add-ons. It's a layer right underneath the stations that's exactly high enough to walk in, which is close by enough to make them connect to the station.
nice... i've been making basements last, think I"m gonna start with basements for now on. I'm always scared AF that when digging under my house that it's gonna cause a domino effect collapse lol
Good tutorial! Would have been nice if you ended the video with a creation of your own in which you included the basement in the video, like as an inspiration to anyone wanting to incorporate this basement.
I could easily see this being modified for an infinity pool near the shoreline, or inground pool near a house on the plains. Just like real life, need to bring plenty of insect repellent!
Great video! I have one question. Will building a basement affect structural integrity of a roof? For example, if I build a basement under the house, then use corewood on those stone pieces of the basement roof, will my roof be less supported or is it the same? Thanks
i do have a question. i haven't played much of this game but i di play a lot of No Mans Sky a while back. the problem i had with NMS is after a while the ground i dug out would automatically fill itself in. does that happen with Valheim?
How close to a body of water can you safely dig a basement. ? I've been wanting to build a Longhouse close to the ocean but also have an underground Armory/ Storage room. !!
Comment below for other tutorials you'd like to see! :)

@@AaronPMC might be able to at some point. Lot of info out there though on everything for crafting
Valheim has such a satisfying build system. Probably my fave out of all the survival games. (I despise floaty non physics based structures)

Idk man, I had my house positioned with the walls facing each of those ways and the basement came out janky
@@a7xfan778 Yah, sometimes it works but finding the grid by using the pick axe or hoe is the fail-safe way of doing it for sure!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! Glad it was inspiring and insightful!
Listening through parts of this video reminded me of Rick and Morty's Interdimensional Cable. Great basement tutorial. Thanks.
Great tutorial on a lot of things here, especially finding the 'lay' of the land for digging straight lines 👌Thanks for sharing!
Glad it helps! yah I see a lot of basements / cellars done by even pro builders but this way just makes it a lot more accurate and easy!
@@Chiselchip Yeah, definitely! Good of you to mention the chunk edge thing too since not everyone is used to that sort of generation :)
Thank you. Exactly the tutorial format I need for constructing the stone-level of my base.
TYVM for the Pickaxe aiming advice.
I've seen this video more times than I should admit. The best guide so far.

Wish I saw this before I made my forever home, maybe I could make a cellar instead with this guide.
Many thanks for all the building details .. insted i just covered all the basment with stones and built a portal inside 😊

I was alaways curious how they did this thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Fellow small UA-camr! This is a fantastic video! Thank you SO much! Channel looks great, keep it up brother, I subbed.

I'm going to honest, I hope and can't wait for it to come to the playstation 5, on that note, I think I would build a dungeon/grave underground

how about an elder base? been as you can build on and under the elder spawn?
Funny you ask, I'm working on an elder base in my new wilderheim series! Doing a big storage bunker
