Quick Note. The Stag actually belongs to the Mackenzie Clan, who brought it to the Dalmore brand when they took over in the late 1800's. It's adorned the bottles since then, but it hasn't been as dominant as it is now.
It's so refreshing to watch an episode without so much giggling (like the newer episodes). I like a more (but not completely) serious approach. I liked the story and your tasting notes.
thanks!

I will say this... The Dalmore 12 makes an excellent beginner Scotch as I even got my wife loving it!
Yeah, look at the dark richness of that caramel coloring. It's crazy how they got it just right.
What are you, some kind of hippy vegan? Afraid of some food coloring? It's a good whiskey, who cares about the coloring.
@@iancampbell1494 Think it was more in reference to Daniel making quite a bit of fuss about the great color and it being caused by sherry casks. Which although true, is not the only reason. The coloring certainly plays a big part
@@iancampbell1494 what does being vegan have to do with caramel coloring?
@@DimaStranger it was a comment based on sarcastic caricature that didn’t land well. I don’t think coloring is an issue though. So to answer your question, nothing.
I was thinking the same thing when he said that! I see a youngish scotch that colour and think e150 rather than wow what a nice colour.
Dalmore is one of my all-time favorites. I couldn't care less about the coloring or chill filtering, it tastes great!
I usually hate 40%, chill filtered scotch but this taste absolutely delicious 😋
agreed!
What exactly is beautiful looking at a coloring agent? There's so many better Scotch products than Dalmore.
I noticed you mentioned the color and how it shows it’s been in sherry casks. But correct me if I’m wrong, don’t they add food coloring?
They totally do.
I agree so much with it being a Christmas whisky. I first tried this whisky on Christmas Day and I thought that was maybe why I associate it with Christmas, but it really does have so many festive tastes and smells. Honestly my favourite whisky I’ve ever tried.
All the best from Scotland 🏴
I like these reviews where you get right to it thanks bro
thanks!
The Dalmore 15 is just warm butter! I don't know how they get the pineapple, cherry to just blend together...then comes that LONG LINGERING chocolate finish. My goodness... when me & my boys had it, blew us away!
The King is up next... 😎
I really like Dalmore 12, but it's priced significantly higher than other 12 year old single malts here in Ontario. For example, Old Pulteney 12 sells for $79 CAD while Dalmore 12 sells for $100 CAD. So as much as I'd like to keep a bottle of Dalmore 12 on hand in my home bar, it's pretty much relegated to restaurant/pub sipping. If I'm going to spend $100, I'll get Ardbeg 10 or Talisker 10. Love your videos. Slainte !
that sucks for you...over here in Québec the Dalmore 12 is 80$ CAD and the Old Pulteney 12 is 77.25$ CAD. Come to Qc to buy your Dalmore then! haha
+The29james Dalmore 12 is only $50 here
Dalmore 12 can buy somewhere in Taiwan and only cost NT1100, about 50 CAD
That is some beautiful E150 color.
sooo beautiful
I’ve got the Dalmore Cigar Malt. Also with E150 coloring. Just wondering out of curiosity, do they color all their variations?
@@Bart-uh2zr sadly I do believe
@@Bart-uh2zr Get Aberlour A'bunadh. Specifically, A'bunadh is a no bullshit, sherry cask, series of batch releases.
T G Thanks, will add that one to my wanted list :).
I want to go tasting different whisk(e)y's with you
I think I'll dip my toes in single malt scotch with Dalmore. If I can scare up $500.00, I'll get the 12, 15, 18 and cigar malt. Talisker and Ardbeg is on the short list also. With seven of us drinking a daily toast now, it's going to take a lot to keep us going. I'll have to look for a more "economic" whiskey and perhaps save the "good stuff" for once a week, but I really hate doing that. If it's not the "good stuff", then I really don't want to drink it. If I can't afford to drink only good stuff, then Underberg and Guinness will have to keep my guts soothed. (and those aren't cheap)
Was at the supermarket today and was in the mood for a new whisky, and bought this for my growing collection, inspired by your show. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking forward to it 🥃
Serious question: how can you say look at that color, when they add artificial coloring? That doesn’t make sense to me.
Color gets darker by aging and 12 yrs isn't on the older side.
Thanks for the review of the 12 yr old. Have not tried it yet. Tried some some 15 year old at a bar about a year ago .. absolutely incredible. Now the back story. About 4 years ago, I bought a Christmas closeout, a gift box of Dalmore 15 yr old with two stag head glasses for US 52 dollars and the clerk said the price wasn't a mistake as they needed to make room for more merchandise. He did say it was an incredible value because it didn't have any caramel like the 12 year old. Still have not broken the seal as I was waiting for the proper occasion to and company to open it. And it might be in the near future when the country lifts the mandatory covid 19 mandatory lock-down. Stay safe and stay sane folks.
One day this wonderful water of life will grace my lips.
Why didn't he pour some in the glass, swirl and throw it on the floor ? xD gotta clean the glass of any odors. Just like Richard Paterson does
You recommended this after I tried Abelour 12 and the Balvenie double wood and this is definitely a darker, richer burnt brown sugar and candied pecan mouthful. I never knew that Scotch Whisky could be so dark, complex and mysterious. Now I need something somewhere in between Abelour 12 and Dalmore 12 to enjoy too. Any help would be appreciated.
Bro you didn't throw it over your shoulder. You trippin
hahahaha. true.
Just had this yesterday. Very flavorful and complex.
Dalmore color is not natural, E151 for sure. Also chill filtered.
Who gives a flying fuck if its chill filtered if its delicious?
Big Bud
Absolutely.
Just bought a bottle of this to try last weekend. Fantastic stuff! This could be the perfect Scotch to get someone to try if they want to start drinking Scotch.
So smooth. A friend of mine who usually only likes Rye tried it and loved it. I'm still working my way through the world of Scotch and prefer them not peaty (Not a fan, personal preference)
And I've recently had Glenlivet 15, Glenmorangie, and Balvenie Double-Wood. All are really good, but so far I think The Dalmore is my new current favourite.
I've been wanting try some Dalmore but am surprised that both 12 & 15 are only 40ABV?
I just bought this whisky. Very underwhelmed.
I guess I'm the only dissenter. I bought some Dalmore 12 for the first time and am not that impressed. If it were a song it would have sweet high notes and peaty low notes, but very little midrange. The smokiness is a bit offputting. It's not that slight hint you get in great blends like the higher level Johnny Walker's or the amazing in-your-face smokiness/brininess of an Ardbeg or Laphroaig.
Dalmore 12 is absolutely wonderful and is absolutely worth the money. I tend to prefer a good Islay more often than not; but this is wonderful nonetheless.
Wow videos from 7 years ago suck so much... and I liked this one. XD
Such a good Scotch. I actually like it without a drop of water
This video is a year old but I just got my first Dalmore 12. This is a great Scotch! I love it. Thank you sir.
Years later after seeing this great review and it's my favorite whisky, just had some last night. Thank you Daniel!
Why make such a thing of the colour when it is clearly caramel colouring? How very naive.
Great review! I agree completely, a great Scotch!
I think The Dalmore is colored no? I think they even disclose it on the rear label. Still great.
The Dalmore is highly overrated. Thin, short and lacking in any character.
None of Dalmore core range can't be call fantastic... very basic product with lot of marketing sh...t around...
Full of carmel E 150 and only 40%
Unless this speciality of this whisky is this plastic stagg in the bottle?
My favorite one! I am not fan of peated flavor. For my Dalmore is the best!🙄
If you like overpriced, colored, chill filtered Scotch watered down to it's lowest possible level then you'll love Dalmore
In 1839 The Dalmore Distillery was established by Alexander Matheson, a partner in the Hong Kong trading house of Jardine, Matheson & Co, the trading firm which took over from the East India Company and oversaw much of the trade (including opium) in and around China. Matheson leased the distillery to the Sutherland family, but with limited success.
The Mackenzie Brothers
In 1878 the lease was transferred to Andrew and Charles Mackenzie (forming Mackenzie Brothers), and it’s at this point that the Dalmore also acquired its signature 12-pointed stag crest.
The Mackenzie family received the royal crest as a reward in 1263 after Clan Chief Colin of Kintail saved King Alexander III’s life from a raging stag.
I have been watching your videos. Where does one get those little containers of scotch. I would to have them for tasting rather than buying full bottles. I have seen little bottles in liquor stores, but only for bulk cheap whiskey.
Yeah, it's hard to find the nicer brands. I got these from the Master of Malt whisky advent calendar
Christmas...picked it up. Tried once. No water. It followed some Bourbons.
I just kept thinking Desert.
I bought for christmas lol exceptiinal. Just drinking it straight...which is not normal for me
No offence toward all the dalmore lovers but.... I've been drinking Talisker form over 15 years and a lot of other whiskeys . Last night for the first time I tried the dalmore 12 years. And it taste like brown sweet water . I don't understand how people can call this whiskey and enjoy it, unless you like your whiskey sweet as candy with water in it. Again no offence to all the people who likes it. But for me, I won't even call this whiskey. Eewwwww!
Sorry to be "that guy", but stags don't gore people unless they are provoked. If the hunter wasn't directly between the king and the stag, the king is getting gored. I still dig the logo, and love the taste! Especially with an El Rey Del Mundo cigar!
Looking forward to trying the Dalmore brand, so many good reviews !
And so many bad ones too!
Personally i think Dalmore 12 is overrated specially based on the price, nice looking bottle though
Just got a bottle of this as it was on sale at my local whisky shop. I have to say I don’t agree with their regular price point and at happy I got it cheaper because it is, quite frankly, mostly marketing. Yes you get a nice looking bottle with the stag head and everything but the caramel coloring really comes through aggressively and it is just not as complex and thick as you’d expect it to be. I do like some of the leathery notes I get when adding a drop of water and the sweetness of the sherry cask. But at their regular price it’s an underwhelming whisky for me.

Question do they use colour in their products given the fact at 40 percent and most likely chill filtered. But still a not bad product.
There were ENGLISH in Scotland! Why?
Just bought Dalmore 12 and untill i get more whiskey to have number one cause i love this
Daniel, your beard is way more smokey today. Too much Islay.
Quick question which one of the dalmore can you purchase at a great price that will grow in value and taste?
Man I prefer these old solo videos, much more of a mellow vibe without Rex
It was the McKenzie Clan member who saved the king and he allowed them to put the Stag on their Coat of Arms.
Love your video's, and the Dalmore. That said, your Stag Head story is about the Chief of Clan Mackenzie, decedents of which later acquired The Dalmore - and adorned it with the Clan Crest.
Dalmore 12 vs Johnnie Walker 18
still don't like that they colour 'em...
And or kakow!
Dalmore is good. I have the 12 yo
Baby sic....I saw that video too lol
...one of the best under $100 ive had...
The dalmore 15 is the pick of the litter.
How does this compare to a Tobermory 15
Great video :)
ı'll try
Tastes just like a solid VSOP Cognac.
Dalmore needs to buy a clue its not even close to what it should be. Please get some help you are delusional about Dalmore.
Plz dont comment on the admiration of the color when its faked. Im not complaining that Dalmore adds it (even though i wish they wouldnt) im just sayin that it isnt worth commenting on when its faked, especially with the added comment about how the color was influenced by the casks...it was influenced by the artificial coloring and not much else. Taste wise however, i agree its excellent! I like the 15 year old too. It reminds me of south Texas baking. That heavy buttered southern baking
You are most definitely complaining.
If i buy 12 y old whiskey and do not open it - after 4 y it will be 16 y old whiskey! Yes or no!!! Or maby year counting stops after botteling... Dont get it...
No the aging process stops once it leaves the wooden casks
You said - you can't go wrong with Dalmore. Sorry but I disagree so much and the beautiful color, oh man (facepalm). I truly believe (or hope at least) that you're of a different opinion now in 2018...
Colored and chill-filtered - I'm pretty sure you know about this, but I guess you get paid for these videos.
