Man, this song sounds like being on the open road. Just traveling with no particular destination in mind. No schedules, no commitments, no hassles, no worries, no stress; just the freedom of going wherever your destiny awaits you.

The bottom line is this: When a man picks up his guitar, and every single note you hear is full of that mans soul and passion, and you know exactly what that man is feeling, he is a true artist. Every note Tommy plays is another thought, emotion or feeling coming from deep inside him that he is sharing with us. We should count ourselves lucky that his technique is at a level at which he can convey these emotions clearly through his music. He is a true musician!

sinbaadi And what's fascinating is this is actually one of his simplistic pieces that isn't as hard to play as others. As you can see the chords in this song are almost all popular simple chords. What's so special about a song like this is it truly does paint a picture of the Old American West and the great unknown. Props to him.

    Wrote these to the tune
    It Leads Me On
    Starts melody at 1:05
There are journeys I’ve made in my lifetime
Many paths I have taken it’s true
Yet I never thought that they would lead me
A thousand miles away from you
    Start melody at 1:25
I have seen the glories of a new day
Where no man has ever walked before
In the breeze I hear your sweet voice calling
A thousand miles from that distant shore x 2
    Start melody at 1:49
In my heart I am cryin’ in my soul I’m denying
All the things I know I should have done
Though this loneliness has got me
And the loss of you it haunts me
    There’s still a calling & it leads me on x 2

    Start melody 2:22
Now the days they seem like moments
In a life that only I will ever know
As the unknown it surrounds me
Still I have a thousand miles to go x2
    Start melody at 2:46
In my heart I am cryin’ in my soul I’m denying
All the things I know I should have done
Though this loneliness has got me
And the loss of you it haunts me it haunts me so

In my heart I am cryin’ in my soul I’m denying
All the things I know I should have done
And it leads me on … it leads me on x 4

Nice. But I somehow think the last thing this piece needs lyrics to be honest. It tells a complete story on its own. Drags you in to immediately stimulates your brain to create these amazing pictures. I took my 10yo son, he is currently into kids spongebob ninjago music and no great judge. I let him listen to the first maybe 1/3rd of the song and asked him: "What picture do you have in mind?" He said: "A couple is riding on horses towards sundown." He knows nothing about the west. We are Germans and movies of that kind ain't todays kids thing. That is the magic of this song. To me 😊 I'm curious about any perspective. Maybe you can record your voice to it and add some layer to it. Let me know. ❤

I don't subscribe to the ridiculous " best player" nonsense, at a certain level one can play anything another can play. I admire all who can play this wonderful instrument with mastery, as I admire all fine musicians. I will learn this, if nothing else, but to give my mom a beautiful send off into the afterlife. It will never be easy, but this song has given me a reason to dedicate more of myself to music. Many times I've taken the Empire Builder train from Chicago to Western Montana. It travels along the route taken by Lewis and Clark. One of my favorite things of that journey is to get up early in the morning, grab a cup of coffee and head to the observation car. As the plains of North Dakota roll by and the sun comes up - this song could be the background theme. I hear the clack of the wheels on the rails and the peaceful beauty of that land. It's an extraordinary song.

Tommy Emanuel is like the Rain man, but with a guitar. When he plays, the guitar is surprised!! Watching him play is a "Zen" state for me!! I'm content, captured, and I'm inspired!! I'm 46 years old, and I've played guitar 🎸 since I was 6 - 7 years old. Since the day I first heard this man play, I've approached my guitar differently, because only him and Slash have had the power , sound, and style that made my ears reprogram themselves!! Tommy is a HUGE influence and inspiration in my life. I listen to his music every day without fail.
God bless you, Mr. Emanuel for sharing your music . The world and music itself has a priceless wealth with you in it. You have become a big part of my life. Thank you for that. I would love to meet you some day.
Be safe, God bless, and keep making calluses!!

agreed. your left hand can be the fastest hand in the west, but if your right always strums an extra string or misses them, it sounds bad.

I attended you concert in St. Louis earlier this year. My classical Alvarez is now 50 years old and I haven't played it in a while. After attending your live performance I know that I can never play with your level of skill but what I learned from watching you is that you have fun when you're playing. Not to impress but to have fun and that was what I was missing. I went home, got out my guitar and replaced the strings and now I play for fun. Thank you for showing me the way.

I moved to Vienna, Austria a few months ago. When i first heard this, i put it on my phone and walked through the city at night, taking it all in. I thought the song perfectly summed up everything i was feeling. Now I'm going through some other shit - song feels just the same. Really amazing piece, I'm so grateful for it.

And for those of us listening to this who also know of Lewis and Clark's story of one of the greatest adventures of early America, they can almost see images of their brave company of men traversing the mountains, seeing animals, tribes, and majestic sights few Europeans had ever seen. I've read their diaries' account and it's truly remarkable - and Tommy's instrumental echoes and captures that sense of awe and adventure! So amazingly beautiful!

My good (musical genius, really) son, Caleb, heard Tommy do a concert sometime back. His response ... "Dad, I went into my closet and found the box for my guitar - put the ax back in it and took it back to the store where I'd purchased it. I told the guy at the counter, 'This thing doesn't work.'"

Every single one of the world´s great guitar players has his or her own style, guys. It´s all about the dynamics and presence during play. Tommy doesn´t sound like MK or Clapton. He sounds like Tommy. End of! Ears are there for listening. If you do, subtle style differences will appear clear as day. Good music is good music regardless, but the truth as to what this means is how you find personal preferences. Only your own ears will tell you. Personally, I really like TE´s style.

one word for this song: discovery.
even though it's linked to the wild west or the american west perhaps, it can also be linked to a great discovery in every aspect. Like in a bustling downtown, that feeling of freedom you've once lost is back again, or a simple as love at first sight. This is for discovery and unraveling of things in life.
