@@robertclement8640 That wasn't my interpretation. For a guitarist of Emmanuel's stature, it shows his humility (which isn't all that surprising for him).
Agreed. Several times Tommy is asked a question but defers to Molly as he seems keen for her to display her right hand techniques. Both are virtuosos in their own right but this is a great lesson in how to showcase each other’s strengths.
I don't think he meant it in a negative way. Tommy is great at taking the back seat. Is a curious player in that respect, allowing whoever he plays with to take the lead so to speak and allowing them to play whatever they would like artistically.
He came to our center for the performing arts where I work as a stagehand and house photographer. He was as kind and gracious as any performer as I've ever encountered. Wonderful man who treats people as well as he plays the guitar. The performance was over the top as usual.
If you the player are having fun it’s hard for your audience not to feel something good. Unless you just stink of course. These 2 are amazing of course.
I saw them on Thursday. Molly is a world class seasoned performer. And Tomny is even better. Anyone who can write a song like Initiation is truly a once in a lifetime talent. I struggle to think of a better show I've seen.
We saw them earlier in the tour. I bought the tickets because I had really wanted to see Molly for ages. She was great, tho' I wish she'd played for longer... Tommy was probably the best acoustic player I've ever seen! I knew who he was & what to expect, my friend didn't know him at all & was blown away! Mike Dawes joined Tommy for a couple of tunes too, which was a nice bonus.
How have I reached the age of 70 without knowing Molly Tuttle? OMG she is an absolute goddess. What a fantastic guitarist and what an incredible voice.
These two are the caliber of Musicians that you can't help but laugh while they're blowing your mind, meanwhile they're casually nodding each other on in approval like "Yeah!" and "Here she comes!" Pure Joy through Music. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this ❤
I had the good fortune to witness an outstanding show from these 2 in Shrewsbury last week. One thing I love about this video is the fact that there appears to be no ego from Tommy. The fact that he allows Molly more time to speak than himself is a credit to his character.
I had to miss it as I was in Shrewsbury hospital, where I was confined for quite a while - one great event that I wanted to attend - but hey c'est la vie
I couldn’t possibly count how many videos of Tommy I’ve watched over the years. No matter what he’s playing or who he’s playing with, I always catch myself with a smile within the first few bars of the song. Being a lifelong guitar player myself, there’s not many folks that have that effect on me. It’s a wonderful thing
Absolutely! He LOVES playing! I mean, I love playing, but maybe an hour or two a day. He plays at LEAST 8 hours a day! That's love! And I love how he appreciates other people's playing.
You’d expect that achieving total and complete mastery of the guitar would have given Tommy an ego, but no. Humble in the extreme, he always shifts attention and praise away from himself and to whoever he is playing with. What a good person, what a great heart.
Molly is an absolute Rock Star! Beating the strings off that guit-fiddle with absolutely beautiful sounds. That voice is stunning. Just can't say enough about this young ladies talents. Tommy is a given for maximum output every time he plays and one of the top guitarist today. Thanks for this entertainment!
Love seeing these videos with my guitar heros, both old and new. Im Australian, and Tommy was one of the few people I had to look up to. With no Ineternet in the early 1990s, I would see Tommy play on one of the 5 or so free to air TV channels available to us. Fast forward 30 years, and UA-cam has introduced me to artists like Molly, Billy Strings and more. To see Tommy play with these guys and girls is so good.
Growing up in Australia I have seen Tommy play live (as well as with his late brother) quite a few times. He is a musical gift from Australia to the world I think. Not surprised that everyone wants to play with him and that Chet Atkins gave him one of his "Certified Guitar Player" awards (only 5 were given by Chet - well deserved)
Dear Lord....sooo beautiful from both. Kind of watched Molly work sooo hard over the last 5 years and seems like such a wonderful person. Wish her the very best...
Yeah this is James from the states I must admit that I too am 73 and have been playing guitar for about 50 years and I have to say that it always blows me away how the young people can seem to just zoom past us who we thought were relatively good guitar players 40 years ago when we were comparing ourselves to people like Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck and I have to say now that there's no comparison to the new breed of players just out of sight. Hats off to them!
My face is hurting from smiling so much when I listen to this man and the people he jams with God bless these people and God bless us all lucky enough to hear it
Well as an Aussie Tommy is obviously a legend for us and others as well I guess. Gotta say thou that discovering Molly has been light a sweet spring breeze for me. Her vocals are simply perfect for her genre of music and her guitar technique is beyond sublime! Listen to her cover of Helpless with the Influences. Truly beautiful!
I got the privilege of seeing this force of nature, this self taught, modest, genius three times over about four years. He's so simple, honest, talented beyond any measure. If you can possibly see him - Do It.! You will never forget it!
Molly's "Take the Journey" which she plays some at the end is a fantastic song. Her vocals as she demonstrates on "White Freightliner Blues" are superb.
Tommy is such an artist, a character and a human being. Had a pleasure of watching him live on a concert with 20000 people. Afterwards, me and my friend waited for him to come out and sign a guitar. Not only did he sign it, but spent a good 20min chatting with the two of us. Love you Tommy, never change.
When I saw the remark "Insanely Good" I wasn't surprised because I knew Tommy Emmanuel as a genius guitar man... Now, when he played a duet with Molly Tuttle, whom I never knew before this very moment, I just got stunned at this performance... She really deserves to be entitled "The Queen Guitar Woman"... LOVE YOU BOTH...!!!
Molly has a Grammy and is featured in the country music hall of fame. Frankly I prefer her playing to Emmanuel’s. Not saying she’s necessarily better but her style resonates more with me. Also she only just showed you a fraction here of what she can really do.
Tommy is awesome but he let Molly shine because she is stellar. You can see the admiration for her playing and singing in his face. Kudos to him for not trying to outshine her because it would only have made him look bad.
Tommy is a legend that every guitar player respects and admires, I’ve never heard Molly and she is an extraordinary talent. Thank you for posting this. Tommy’s humility and willingness to divert the spotlight is so refreshing
I have seen them each live. Tommy once, and Molly 6x. I have the autographed ticket stubs in my wallet to prove it.They are both masters, and yet there are things they can learn from each other. These two rubbing elbows, teaching, and learning from each other could change guitar as we know it. Molly has Tommy playing with a flat-pick, and she is passing on the Clawhammer too. My brain will melt when I see Molly start playing percussion on her guitars. Tommy is one of the most engaging performers I've ever seen on a stage. He is a one man show most of the time, and he holds the room in his hand all night. I am so hoping that this is just a warmup for an American Tour! Molly, please bring Tommy home to "The Guild" next time you are here.
true masters of anything not just guitar are always willing to learn from others. people who think they know everything are only holding themselves back.
