Forgot to say the stick is stock still. Don't think anything was done to shifter but shifts in gears really easy only complaint clutch catches very high unlike my last car. My last car couch caught right away so a learner could drive it. I was able to be on a hill and use the clutch and gas to stay in gear still on a steep hill. Did it the day I got it. Apparently it's worked fine as when I removed it they were absent and I've been driving for 6 years since install so no telling when they came out
Used Dielectric grease if you want. It's used for oring seals. I had no issue with the grease used in the video. You can worry about it in 20 years from now.

There is a minuscule amount of wiggle, barely enough to be noteworthy. I think it’s fine but I’m worried it might be an important part that’s slowly wearing things down
Thanks, Having to buy from the US because there is no UK supplier for both items, Was looking at the buddy club but the price is abit too much, Great video.
Can you tell me why sometimes its hard for me to put my shifter into gear, especially when i drive the hell out of it. Ill be driving my car normally than when i stop at a red light or stop sign i try to put my car in first gear and its like it wont go in that gear or any gear... i have to use all my might to force my shifter into gear...and btw i have a new transmission and clutch.
You might need to bleed the clutch hydraulic fluid again. If the clutch slave is old it may need to be replaced. Also did you install a stainless steel braided line with a heat shield? We use Redline Transmission fluid for Nissans and my car shifts great.
I had the same issue as well after replacing my clutch and this worked for me: before you try to bleed the clutch or anything else, make sure the shifter plate is perfectly aligned. My 1st/5th/6th gears were becoming SUPER hard to shift into and I felt like I had to force it in very hard, but it turned out that my shifter plate (the gold plate that can be seen at 4:00 ) had been poor placed after my local shop recently replaced my clutch and removed the transmission. To fix this, just loosen all three 10mm bolts holding it down and make sure that the reverse lockout stem ( the little thing sticking out at 9:48 ) is touching the side of the shifter plate when in 5th and 6th gear. There should be absolutely NO GAP when in 5th and 6th gear, this ensures that you don’t overshoot when shifting or else you’ll grind it your gears by having to force them into the correct spot like you were mentioning. You may have to play with it at first when trying to find where the stick actually falls into the gears, but once you do just double check that the reverse lockout when in 5th and 6th is touching the side of the shifter plate. After re-aligning the plate you should have really smooth shifts again ! Hope this helped. Edit: Spelling
Hey Anthony, have you every noticed any noise/ vibration at about 4500-6500 rpms. Mine seems smooth at low rpms but to maybe have a little rattle at higher rpms? Maybe you could advise something?
AnthonyJ350 Thank you for getting back so quick Anthony, the vibration is only on hard shifting about 4500 rpms. Maybe thought about rubber washes on each side on the bolt underneath the car? I don’t know let me know what you think?
samuel stover Hmmm, try doing what I did in this video. ua-cam.com/video/KV5fzIZyawc/v-deo.html Is the stock transmission bushing in good condition still?
Daniel Dziewa You could reuse the old one, but you might damage it taking it off. I'd start with a new one. Concept Z or Z1 Motorsports should have it.
statuswashere Nope it's been awesome. When people sit in the car and try it they have a little difficulty with it because they're not used to it. Only thing is because I went with a stainless weighted shift knob, it's a little hot to the touch if I park in the sun, but I can tolerate it and it suits the interior so well. I still recommend it.
AnthonyJ350 yeah I have the big type r shift knob from twm performance. Goes with my interior perfectly as well. However, I have to many people telling me the stock shifter is good as is. Built better as well. Idk how credible they are but that is just what I have heard.
statuswashere The stock shifter is nice. But I needed it to be a tad of a shorter throw which the Torque Solution unit does. And I think this is a more precise unit.
HEY ANTHONY I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS BRO I LEARN A LOT FROM THEM, ANYWAYS I JUST INSTALLED THE TORQUE SOLUTION SHORT SHIFTER ON MY Z , AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU KNOW WHY MY SHIFTER WONT GO BACK TO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF. ITS PRETTY STIFF ITS NOT AS WIGGLY AS THE STOCK ONE.
yes i had overtightened the bottom bolt, I had another question for you? The shifter comes with two spacers are you suppose to use both of them or only one
I just installed a Torque Solutions short shifter on my Z and the shifts feel great. BUT, I am having one problem, on accelerations from about 3500 RPM and up I get a rattling noise that gets progressively louder with RPM. Anyone know what this might be? I've taken it apart twice now and still can't seem to figure it out.
@@AnthonyJ350 I found the problem after some wiggling around underneath the car. Turns out the next joint up from the fork on the shifter control rod was loose and was causing the crazy vibrations since the bushings that come with this shifter are solid aluminum. Needed to replace the whole thing but it's fixed now!
Tony the Lakers Fan Your local mechanic should be able to help you out. I would just take apart the interior portion for them prior to bringing it in. And maybe show them this video.
Hey Anthony, I just installed this today everything went smooth, is it normal to be stiff? I feel like I have to put more muscle effort now than the oem lol
No reply from email. When I called torque solutions. They referred me to your video. Disappointed with their customer service. They told me the company doesn't have an instruction guide for their own product...what?
What do u think of the stillen shifter? I was looking for reviews on it but then came across ur video. Now I'm not sure which is better😂..id really appreciate ur honest opinion
I looked it up. It looks like one piece construction so that's good. It says 60% reduced throw, I honestly think that's pretty short of a throw. Mine reduced it a little from factory and I thought it was perfect. I think the factory throw is pretty darn good just needs to be tightened up a bit.
Deftones 26 B&M makes really good products. But the 350Z version is 2 pieces and I've read it has excessive vibration. That's why I picked Torque Solution because it's 1 piece.
+AnthonyJ350 Wow ya I'm definitely going with torque solution. Is everything included or do I need to purchase anything else to make shifter work flawless?
Anyone else have issues with the shifter not returning to the center? Had no issues with shifter before. Now it will stick to the left or right while in neutral. Gears feel good moving through them however I haven't turned on the car yet because of the issue.
Hey Anthony! Thanks for responding. Even if the bolt completely loose it still does not return to the center. After driving around a bit it is starting to center a bit easier. Possibly the new cup is giving me issues.
AnthonyJ350 That is correct. I find it weird as I can't find anyone else having issues with this on the my350z forums. I even uninstalled and re-greased everything again.

AnthonyJ350 this happens while shifting into another gear while the revs are >5000. only occurs in the moment of gear change, no other vibrations or rattle while in gear or shifting below 5k. This also does not depend on the selected gear.

Thanks, Having to buy from the US because there is no UK supplier for both items, Was looking at the buddy club but the price is abit too much, Great video.
Speed Obsession Ya for the money it's such a precise piece.
wait do you have to buy a new cup?? and also when do you put the bolt back on the one you took off underneath the car?
I would recommend purchasing a new cup.
I never really thought of making a shorter throw setup
It's amazing. If you like that super accurate and crisp feeling. Big improvement over stock for me.
Do you know if this shifter will work on a de
Yes it should
@@AnthonyJ350 thanks man, surprised you responded on such an old vid. You just gained a subscriber
Maybe you could advise something?
samuel stover Is it happening all the time or only during acceleration or deceleration?
AnthonyJ350 Thank you for getting back so quick Anthony, the vibration is only on hard shifting about 4500 rpms. Maybe thought about rubber washes on each side on the bolt underneath the car? I don’t know let me know what you think?
samuel stover Hmmm, try doing what I did in this video. ua-cam.com/video/KV5fzIZyawc/v-deo.html
Is the stock transmission bushing in good condition still?
what do you call that bottom piece that covers the top of the boot? i need one.
Try Z1 Motorsports or Concept Z.
You must purchase a new cup or can the original cup be reused?
Daniel Dziewa You could reuse the old one, but you might damage it taking it off. I'd start with a new one. Concept Z or Z1 Motorsports should have it.
Did have to get longer bolts because of the spacer?
Speed Obsession Which spacer are you referring to?
The 3 bolts mine won't reach.
Didn't it come with new hardware? Check the instruction manual because it should also have list of contents.
No just came with spacers and the shifter, Probably because I bought it from Ebay, Any idea on the dimensions of the bolts?
Speed Obsession I'm really not sure. Is it a Torque Solution product?
The “retaining bracket” is the reverse lockout plate it keeps you from putting it in reverse when trying to hit 6th so yes put that back on.
Brandon Brandon Thanks for the tip!
AnthonyJ350 no problem just found out mine is missing. Thanks for the video!
I'm thinking on getting the TWM short shifter for my 06 g35 coupe. What are you think?
Do it, you won't regret it. It has a very solid feel.
Do you have any complaint or issues that have came up since you installed the torque solutions short throw shifter?
statuswashere Nope it's been awesome.
Z33 JV Check the retainer plate that has the reverse notch. Or you over tightened to the linkage of the transmission underneath
oh your right i probably did over tighten it thank you bro
Z33 JV No problem! Comment back and give us your feedback after driving it.
Z33 JV Were you able to fix it?
yes i had overtightened the bottom bolt, I had another question for you? The shifter comes with two spacers are you suppose to use both of them or only one
I just installed a Torque Solutions short shifter on my Z and the shifts feel great. BUT, I am having one problem, on accelerations from about 3500 RPM and up I get a rattling noise that gets progressively louder with RPM. Anyone know what this might be? I've taken it apart twice now and still can't seem to figure it out.
You might have the bolt too tight where the shifter bolts to the shifter fork of the transmission?
@@AnthonyJ350 I found the problem after some wiggling around underneath the car. Turns out the next joint up from the fork on the shifter control rod was loose and was causing the crazy vibrations since the bushings that come with this shifter are solid aluminum. Needed to replace the whole thing but it's fixed now!
@@obscure.mystic Good job diagnosing !
Hey Anthony what's up say if I dont want to go through the hassle of installing it who could help me with that?
Tony the Lakers Fan Your local mechanic should be able to help you out. I would just take apart the interior portion for them prior to bringing it in. And maybe show them this video.
AnthonyJ350 Ah alright thanks man
Tony the Lakers Fan No problem. Comment back when you get it in and let us know what you think.
AnthonyJ350 yeah man for sure
Hey Anthony, I just installed this today everything went smooth, is it normal to be stiff? I feel like I have to put more muscle effort now than the oem lol
dee Yup you'll have to make more of an effort at first. I find putting a weighted shift knob helps make shifts easier.
Can u use the stock shift cup or do i need to buy a new one ?
AnthonyJ350 ?
I bought a new plastic nissan shifter cup from concept z
Louis meola You can use the old one but it's a hassel taking it off.
Is this the same for the g35 coupe ?
Gabriel Chavez Should be except for the interior disassembly. Check Torque Solution because I believe the product says 350Z/ G35.
I though you had an 03-05 z. But the interior looks like an 07 or 08. At least where the shifter is.
Oh, it looks like the 06 was a little different interior wise. You must have an 06.
AtomicShadow64 Yup I have a 2006 Enthusiast.
Is their a pdf file I can download on instructions ?
Adam Nejad I'd contact Torque Solution if they have a file
AnthonyJ350 ok thnx
No reply from email. When I called torque solutions. They referred me to your video. Disappointed with their customer service. They told me the company doesn't have an instruction guide for their own product...what?
Adam Nejad I guess you can treat it like the stock shifter and refer to a Haynes manual. Is there something from the video you don't understand?
My buddy is deaf and needed written instructions.
What do u think of the stillen shifter? I was looking for reviews on it but then came across ur video. Now I'm not sure which is better😂..id really appreciate ur honest opinion
I couldn't find any stillen shifter reviews
I looked it up. It looks like one piece construction so that's good. It says 60% reduced throw, I honestly think that's pretty short of a throw. Mine reduced it a little from factory and I thought it was perfect. I think the factory throw is pretty darn good just needs to be tightened up a bit.
Ok great thanks for helping me make my decision
LoCoPuFFz __ Which shifter is best for you? Just curious on your decision.
AnthonyJ350 I just purchased the TS shifter
Hey Anthony I called my modding shop for my car and they reccomended a B&M short shifter. Do u know if that's a good shifter? they said it's high end.
Deftones 26 I think you just buy a new plastic white cup bushing that the shifter snaps into.
Does the shifter have vibration/rattle over 6000rpm?
I suppose a little bit. But running at that high of RPM your focus is going to be on other things while driving.
Anyone else have issues with the shifter not returning to the center? Had no issues with shifter before. Now it will stick to the left or right while in neutral. Gears feel good moving through them however I haven't turned on the car yet because of the issue.
Matthew Bouchard How tight is the nut and bolt from the bottom of the shifter to the linkage to the transmission?
Hey Anthony! Thanks for responding. Even if the bolt completely loose it still does not return to the center. After driving around a bit it is starting to center a bit easier. Possibly the new cup is giving me issues.
Matthew Bouchard Maybe. So when you go side to side (no gear engagement) it sticks?
AnthonyJ350 That is correct. I find it weird as I can't find anyone else having issues with this on the my350z forums. I even uninstalled and re-greased everything again.
Can someone sent a link for the plastic boot used a guy posted the part number from Nissan but haven't find it anywhere
You'll have to check with the dealer or Z1
Where did you get your shift knob ?? It’s tight lol
It's a Greddy weighted shift knob. You'll have to check their site or ebay
What collar do you have to adjust your shift knob?
Artics Design Just a universal one from eBay.
AnthonyJ350 I know it's been a while but would you happen to remember which one it is? I cant seem to find it anywhere
Artics Design I'll see if I can find it later.
Okay thank you

LoCoPuFFz __ Glad to help :)
Will this help with my Shifter being impossible to shift into. Like im at a red light and i have to jam my shifter into first it wont go in smoothly. Especially reverse i can almost never reverse.
Sounds like the synchros ste going. Try changing the transmission fluid to Redline Synthetic, they make one specifically for Nissan manual transmissions.
AnthonyJ350 - i just put in a new “used” tranny i still have a 1 month warranty left, but the shop keep making excuses, what should i do.

what shift knob is that?
Greddy weighted

Ever Nava It's probably not the same manufacturer or part
anybody else has a weird rattle noise from the shifter at about 5k rpm and above? just intalled mines and that is happening.
Render Lizswith probably too tight at the pivot point?
Render Lizswith
i have the same issue. could you resolve it?
mrherredge Is it happening when you guys leave it in gear and deccelerate?
AnthonyJ350
this happens while shifting into another gear while the revs are >5000. only occurs in the moment of gear change, no other vibrations or rattle while in gear or shifting below 5k. This also does not depend on the selected gear.
mrherredge How long is the vibration for?
Das boot!
Thanks for watching!
that boot looks terrible lmao
Nic D Ya I wasn't the biggest fan either. It looks different now.
It's now around the base of the shifter ua-cam.com/video/QcW0rZek2Lc/v-deo.html
check out bride shift boots, they're cloth. Black on black looks very clean
Ricer
How is this ricer? No can even tell it's done but the user. This is the equivalent of putting a custom trigger on a bolt action rifle for precision.
Is a new shifter cup required? You can't use the original?
You can if you can get it off clean. The new one can be found cheap online though.
