Great Vid! I bought a new 2020 Vmax early 2021 as a leftover. @@thomaslouis5626, yes you did!! Manufacturers are allowed to get away with "manipulating" those date codes. Suzuki did that with their 1986-1989 Cavalcade 1400 touring bike. None were manufactured after 1989 and then stock on hand was slowly sold off. You could buy a brand new 1991 model in Norway or Denmark that was actually manufactured in 1989. There are other motorcycles still in production only available in countries with virtually no emission regulations. An example is found on Suzuki's website in Kenya where they still sell the 2022 TS185ER 2 stroke dual sport, continously in production in Japan since 1969! Another example is Suzuki's GN125 cruiser. First produced in 1981 and only sold in the US for the '82 and '83 model years but it has been in continuous production since then. Loved that bike. I already miss it.
I feel your pain, I traded my 2011 VMAX in for a 2022 Hayabusa because the trade in price was hard to turn down. VMAX value has went up a lot. I bought the bike a year ago and put 10,000 plus miles on it. I got $9000 for the trade. The fastest I got the bike was 168 mph and had to let the throttle go. I only went that fast to see if the bike had the speed restriction eliminated from the ECU flash. I couldn't believe how stable the bike was at that speed. I commuted to work on that bike too, the only negative I had was the fuel tank capacity. The best tires for that bike are the Shinko tires too, can't tell you how many times I fish tailed at a light until I got the Shinko tires.
You actually got 20 more HP (pretty good), the peak is at a different RPM. No one would think the +100 HP is just over the restricted RPM where it's falling off. The +100 HP is just clickbait.
@@IndianaStreetScene Because that wording is baseline. If you find loopholes, then is click bait. If I say, "How to increase your speed with 200 km/h" then I say "You just turn the throttle, and from 0 to 200, you just increased it with 200 km/h, TADAAA. Did I technically lied?
Akrapovic has an x-pipe manifold to replace the cathalytic converter, which in it's own right weighs 10 kg's, 20 pounds..... I used one on mine 2009 Vmax 1700 together with a plug to disable the x-up valve alltogether. I kept the original mufflers ,they are just open pipes , to keep the original look, and the result was astonishing to say the least, the bike became a snoring beast tearing your head backwards, together with a new ecu it had almost 200 bhp on the dyno. Fuel consumption rose equally so I replaced the ridicilous 15 l tank with an aftermarket 22 l tank. Very complicated puzzle to get it in because every free space is used for fuel. In steat of 110 km's I could ride 200 km's till the next refuel stop, but only if you are not wringing it's neck because all that power has to come from somewhere. And still it was a very easy machine to ride, very docile, friendly, until you fully openend the throttle.
Here is a update on the Vmax and WOW!! The bike is crazy fast and pull like hell. I usually put add on to my bike in step so I don't get bored of them . Saying that have me open so a muffler and cat delete is on it way . Then I'm taking it back to tune it again. Loving the Vmax more and more with each ride .
Back then we build a stroker engine for this vmax, it was 2100cc with some standalone ecu. I was able to push 255hp out of it, with some throttle limitation up to 5000rpm
it has been a little while since I opened it all up. The vmax being shaft driven is limited to 172 if i recall, thats pegging at 9000 rpm which I had kept that limit with Guru ecu. Stock size tire, gear, rpm 172mph it gets there quick with no waiting for it to hit single digits till 172. It you could change gearing/rpm engine would pull well past that. I will add though I think your torque numbers are low given the throttle correction etc should be around 120-130
I had an 86 at 19.000 miles with a kerker exhaust, carbs jetted, boost valve bypass, and an aftermarket ignition with no rev limiter that I hit 125 in 4 th once. I was the second owner, and the original owner said he upgraded the valve springs. He had on receipt for the springs but did for the other stuff. I had several dealers say mine could very likely be 180 hp with the mods.
I was fueling up my bike in Golden and this V Max pulls in so naturally I went over to check it out. He had a supercharger on it - I wonder how much power that thing made!
I have a 99 Vmax with a magnacharger and 390 Holley carb done by Jon Cornell before he passed. I’ve never tuned it since I picked it up. Put it on a dyno at a local event -168HP and LOUD AF. If it’s not blown it must suck!
Even though I always love your content overall, I’ve always thought all your numbers (both baseline and in final tune) end up about 20hp low compared to many bikes I’ve seen tuned more locally or in other online venues. Nash, the VMAX Guru, gets low 170s as a baseline. His flash and tweaks usually deliver between 193-198hp while removing top speed limiter and smoothing every rpm in every gear and eliminating rough on/off shaft-jacking from throttle transitions. Good to see you doing your thing, but I’m always puzzled why almost all of your before/after numbers are so low.
Dynos can read that much higher or lower depending on the dyno. It's best to compare numbers on a specific dyno on the same day and time due to atmospheric deviations. Moore Mafia's dyno reads lower than most. His records speak for themselves. I just had my VMAX flashed by him. I'm a happy camper.
I had a 92 bone stock Vmax with welded frame braces, solid motor mounts, and a stiffer fork brace/steering stabilizer for better handling/stability at 45mph and up. I pegged the 155mph speedo ONE time at 9500-9800 RPM. Even the old ones are fast enough stock. I changed the tail pipes to cobras for the best look and reduced jet size to compensate and it was slightly slower but it looked so cool it didnt matter since you can only ride so fast anyway.
Stock bike is speed limited. I have Gurued Gear ECU flash on my 2009. No speed limiter, crazy pulling power. I would like to try the Moore Mafia tune when I find another ECU.
One of my best friends owned an 85 VMAX. He used to do huge burnouts in front of everyone, at the lakefront where we all hung out. I'm sure he was showing off. But the thing looked & sounded so cool when it was doing it man. It had a four into one Kerker exhaust system. One time he drove it around with an open header, still four into one. That thing sounded like a stock car coming down the road. It made me always want to buy one. But I ended up buying a Yamaha MT-10 for the handling and it also sounds cool.
I’m a current gen 1 Busa owner and LOVE my bike! However I’m 51 yrs old and starting to feel the pains lol. I’m crying for another big bore naked like the B King but one that isn’t an eye sore like it was. Chris if you have any inclination that Suzuki or Kawi is coming up with a bike bore naked let us know (if you can) so I have something new to dream about. Till then thanks for all the awesome vids from the track and your dyno room 🇺🇸
I have 2 hamaha RS Warrior 1700(102) that I'm considering having done. 03 and 05 w 22k each. What would my benefits be? Have you ever done one of these before?
2012 VMAX. 140 mph, stock. The bike said "gimme more". But, you aren't starting it correctly. You have to wait for the RPM needle to go up and down the RPM gauge before you start it. I've had running issues by not letting needle cycle up and down the gauge. The motor runs rough if you don't start it correctly.
The Max is definitely one of my favorites, definitely my favorite Yamaha. A couple of questions, what’s the difference between getting the bike Dynoed and just adding a Vance and Hines fuelpack? Does one substitute for the other? I’m not fully clear how this part of modifying the bike. :)
I'd say I want a tune for my new Harley sportster s but it's on its 3rd motor with less than 3k miles so I'm not so sure it will handle anything else unfortunately
That oldie has carbs, no injection, no ECU. Traditional tuning is what you can do with this, but I would not touch the engine other than repairs/restoration on this classic bike.
1) Does anybody know where the EXUP valve is located on a 2020 VMAX? 2) Has anybody installed an Akrapovic cat delete pipe? I can keep the stock cans with this akrapovic cat delete correct? Do you know the two verticle pipes that go up to the rear two cylinders, how is the seal on the pipe maintained? Do they just slip over the existing header from rear cylinders? Or is there a pipe clamp? If there are clamps are they hard to tighten? Thank you very much!
Needs the clutch double sprung or it’s trashed in 3rd at full power.. Go Voodoo on the exhaust and a guru flash on the ecu you will hit just short of 210 bhp.. There’s not many bikes that spin up at 95mph with a blip of the throttle..!
Couple of questions for ya: 1 Do motorcycles use OBD-2 2 Do they use similar "Chips//Modules" like automotive vehicles? 3 When you tune does the customer have to sign a waiver for damage? Or do you have a window where from experience it's safe(ish) from damage. Thx for the vid.
The best cruiser ever made. Why stop making them? Price too high maybe? I ride Kawi dirt bikes and zuke street and kawi.....but I remember Yamaha always had the best 4wheelers (banshee) this Vmax along with the iconic R1.
Stopped making them because Yamaha couldn't get it to comply with new, more stringent EPA regulations. The bike can barely go 100 miles on a full tank!
Awesome. Can the speedo be healed with this mod? If I send in the ECU for this upgrade, is there a way to do that, or have you tried? It may be not be in the ECU, I'm not sure. My 2012 ALWAYS reads 3-5 mph faster than actual speed. Thanks!
I have a factory unmodded vmx 1700, what tuner do you use and can you remap my stock file, would like the most I can get and retain factory looking exhaust
Really a 20 hp gain. Well stock you may see did 155 hp. But since throttle is restricted (stock) yeah, 100 hp at higher rpm's. But looked like great clickbait.
benn to speedo on bike sayin 152 not gps verified but at low throttle mine has that choppy feeling you descibed at low rpm in 1st and 2nd and a little bit of 3rd...tell me is better to have bike ? ( i assume yes) I have akcrpovic exhaust dual and its a 2012 w almost 20k what can we do for me? Ir can this just be done sending you my ecu
Why didn’t you do the first pull in 4th gear? The “factory restrictions” is mostly the 149 mph speed limit on these bikes. (Tires are speed rated at 149mph)
I have a 2021 Africa twin 1100 dct. I'm thinking about getting a tune done. Chap near me said it's £400 for a manual, but as mine is dct they need to run a different computer program to lock out the gearbox...£700! I said...why not just put it in manual mode? He put the phone down!
If I remember correctly, I believe he pulled a genuine 10.49 second 1/4 mile time...bone stock, no add ons....as per Cycle World magazine. Yeah, super fast for the time.
How far back from 2020 can one go to get the same results ? Looks like i may be adding another horse to the stable, but newest I could find on Cycle Trader was 2018 model.

Is it really clickbait if it’s true though? He still made 100 more than before, just not peak. He doesn’t advertise it as +100 peak hp.
@@IndianaStreetScene yes it is still click bait and you arguing is even more of a reason to not watch lol

What a Snowfalke
Another great vid mate. Is the any Triumph Rocket 3 r or gt out there needing a tune.. It would be awesome to see one those torque monsters on yr dyno
That's what I was thinking too.
Me too.
Love the Vmax, but how is 153 stock to 174 tuned a 100 hp gain?
A bit of clickbait. The 100hp isn’t peak to peak. It’s from tuning out the throttle cut at high rpm. That gap was 100hp.
2006 Vmax with Cobra exhaust, sound is amazing. I could only imagine what you could do with her.
I know someone that has one of these with an intake, exhaust and a tune. It’s an absolute MONSTER!!! Scary Fast!!!!
Jesus
135 to 145mph seems right for stock ecu. flashed ecu from 168 to 170mph
Vmax has always been the real monster all power can only imagine this tuning would make it a tripple death machine
Rode the original back in the day- loved it. This begs the question- why does Yamaha restrict (even negative the throttle) the throttle at high RPM?
To satisfy drive by noise regulations. So annoying.
They make a cat eliminator pipe that let's you run the stock mufflers. Do you have a tune for this setup?
I had a 92 bone stock Vmax with welded frame braces, solid motor mounts, and a stiffer fork brace/steering stabilizer for better handling/stability at 45mph and up. I pegged the 155mph speedo ONE time at 9500-9800 RPM. Even the old ones are fast enough stock. I changed the tail pipes to cobras for the best look and reduced jet size to compensate and it was slightly slower but it looked so cool it didnt matter since you can only ride so fast anyway.
was just gifted my late father in laws 2003 vmax. it has ran in 10 years but I hope to have it back to its former glory again soon
These things are such beasts, with an exhuast, e85, and ram air effect i bet it would make an easy 200whp at speed
Stock bike is speed limited. I have Gurued Gear ECU flash on my 2009. No speed limiter, crazy pulling power. I would like to try the Moore Mafia tune when I find another ECU.
I loves these things. I wish they would bring it back now that the peformance cruiser is a thing again. I’d definitely buy one up.
Hello just Subscribed, I had a 1992 vmax stock it went 142mph on flat ground i was 212 lbs then👍🏼🇺🇸
This man is a whole other breed with bikes🤯🤯
I’m a current gen 1 Busa owner and LOVE my bike! However I’m 51 yrs old and starting to feel the pains lol. I’m crying for another big bore naked like the B King but one that isn’t an eye sore like it was. Chris if you have any inclination that Suzuki or Kawi is coming up with a bike bore naked let us know (if you can) so I have something new to dream about. Till then thanks for all the awesome vids from the track and your dyno room 🇺🇸
I had my 2009 done. It is stock other than the tune. I just had it put on a dyno and it came out at 188 hp and 133 lb-ft
I’m assuming the guy in the window is the lucky owner! Look at the grin on his face haha!! Love it! 175 smiles per hour 🤙🏻
Outstanding Chris. This is exactly why we watch and follow you. You the man!.....I wonder if you have a VmaX in your stable?
I have 2 hamaha RS Warrior 1700(102) that I'm considering having done. 03 and 05 w 22k each.
What would my benefits be?
Have you ever done one of these before?
Way to go Chris. Hope you'll soon be able to do something with 2023 Triumph Rocket3R
Today, just over a year, you are close to 200K subs, congratulations! Have you flashed a 1st generation 1200VMax?
Thank you!
Great video, wonder if you're going to get some BMW XR's in?
Chris you need to start getting familiar with the newer rocket 3 ecus. Us rocket 3 owners would love one of your tunes
Can you tune for a full DAMS exhaust? On my 2020 Vmax
Did not have this Yamaha but did have the 79 XS1100 and got it up to 158 MPH
Hey can that be done to a Kawasaki Vulcan 1700cc I would like a extra 30 to 50 hp.
Chris i think if you got the customers reaction after the first ride would make for a great video! Just a thought!
Great control Chris awesome bike bro so I brought all these thumbs ups for ya algorithms fam 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥
I'd say I want a tune for my new Harley sportster s but it's on its 3rd motor with less than 3k miles so I'm not so sure it will handle anything else unfortunately
Third?! Man, what's going on with that thing? I've had my eye on these.
More mafia Chris can you tune up a 1985 Honda V65 Magna
That oldie has carbs, no injection, no ECU. Traditional tuning is what you can do with this, but I would not touch the engine other than repairs/restoration on this classic bike.
Mines been Gurued plus BAZZAZ EFI 188bhp 126lb torque
135 mph on my 1995 VMax before I chickened out. Never dynoed the thing.
Chris you’re killing me man…..it’s “Theo-rhetical” not “Theory-etical.” 😄
Haha yes I was looking for this comment. Love ya Chris! 😆
That bike looks awesome! I've always liked them.
Couple of questions for ya:
1 Do motorcycles use OBD-2
2 Do they use similar "Chips//Modules" like automotive vehicles?
3 When you tune does the customer have to sign a waiver for damage?
Or do you have a window where from experience it's safe(ish) from damage.
Thx for the vid.
bikes dont use obd2 ports, they use adapters that connect to an obd2 reader
If I had to get a muscle cruiser this will be it!
A couple years? The first gen went from 85 till 2003!
That back tire is in another Zip-Code!
That's like 3 Harleys.
That thing bucks like a Braman
I've never been over 130 on my vmax they dont have wind screens Chris!!! Lol
Do you flash drives for a Gl1800c 2014 Valkyrie?
I have a vmax 2009 model do you think there is restrictions in it ? I bought it from italy
Bought one of the original V - Max back in the day, wow, lm really old.
Thanks for sharing 👍, loving your tunes and vidios.
✌🏻🔑👍🤘🇨🇦😎
I would like to see you dyno/flash a Yamaha Warrior 1700.
I own a 2016 and can't justify more power. I don't care about the numbers. Still a beast, I don't know how people can handle more power
The Soundtrack is amazing
The best cruiser ever made. Why stop making them? Price too high maybe? I ride Kawi dirt bikes and zuke street and kawi.....but I remember Yamaha always had the best 4wheelers (banshee) this Vmax along with the iconic R1.
Stopped making them because Yamaha couldn't get it to comply with new, more stringent EPA regulations. The bike can barely go 100 miles on a full tank!
Also just didn't sale sadly love mine
Awesome. Can the speedo be healed with this mod? If I send in the ECU for this upgrade, is there a way to do that, or have you tried? It may be not be in the ECU, I'm not sure. My 2012 ALWAYS reads 3-5 mph faster than actual speed. Thanks!
It was in top gear when you started it?
I have a factory unmodded vmx 1700, what tuner do you use and can you remap my stock file, would like the most I can get and retain factory looking exhaust
What is the address I would send my ECU to? How much does it cost to have your work done to it.
What is your estimation on et gains in the 1/4, or eighth on this bike in similar weather / same rider?
Where's the track videos been this year? I've been really missing those.
One is about to come on NOW!!!!
Wow +100HP! Was it not even running before the tune? 😮
Really a 20 hp gain. Well stock you may see did 155 hp. But since throttle is restricted (stock) yeah, 100 hp at higher rpm's. But looked like great clickbait.
Update: Just wanted to mention that my 2017 did NOT display any fixit / eng code
on the instrument display after the ECU flash.
benn to speedo on bike sayin 152 not gps verified but at low throttle mine has that choppy feeling you descibed at low rpm in 1st and 2nd and a little bit of 3rd...tell me is better to have bike ? ( i assume yes) I have akcrpovic exhaust dual and its a 2012 w almost 20k what can we do for me? Ir can this just be done sending you my ecu
I had one of these in 1994 ! Total Monster 👿!
I own an 85 and a 94 first Gen Vmax. They are down right scary.
Why didn’t you do the first pull in 4th gear? The “factory restrictions” is mostly the 149 mph speed limit on these bikes. (Tires are speed rated at 149mph)
Oh yeah, max speed I’ve went with my bike is 149 mph, I noticed the power cutting at about 140.
Have you ever done a star eluder and if so what were the results and where can I catch the info?
Im using a smartphone to watch your vid. What are the numbers? You dont say what they are and are too shaky to read it. So what are they?
Can you reflash a transalp?
Are they not rated at 200Hp factory anyway?
I have a 2021 Africa twin 1100 dct. I'm thinking about getting a tune done. Chap near me said it's £400 for a manual, but as mine is dct they need to run a different computer program to lock out the gearbox...£700! I said...why not just put it in manual mode? He put the phone down!
Hello hope you have a video for a Z1000
id love to see a video on a gen 2 zx10r i see one old one curious to see how much power i can gain
What can you do with a 2020 vstrom 1050 xt ?how much does a ecu flash cost ?
Sry But in Europa she have 200 Hp Standart. did im wrong read hete?
Live to hear the top speed
Wasn't Johnny Blaze's ghost rider bike a VMAX?
On second movie it was.
Pee Wee Gleason made these bikes fly in 84-85 and I think they were only 1200cc as a posed to this 2020 being close to 1700cc.👍
If I remember correctly, I believe he pulled a genuine 10.49 second 1/4 mile time...bone stock, no add ons....as per Cycle World magazine. Yeah, super fast for the time.
How far back from 2020 can one go to get the same results ?
Looks like i may be adding another horse to the stable, but newest I could find
on Cycle Trader was 2018 model.
2009 - 2020 is the same bike, just different colors.
